This is what we need to see. This is just the thing we need: a grand coalition. An international one. A coalition of all those whose lives and rights are threatened by the Sharia that jihadists want to impose. May it come to be. A welcome bit of anti-dhimmitude from Asia Times, with thanks to Fjordman:
KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysia's minorities are banding together to put up a united front against what they fear is a steady encroachment of Sharia (Islamic law) into their lives.Unsettled by the decision of a court last month that it had no jurisdiction in Islamic matters and that a non-Muslim had no remedy under common law, the minorities, led by moderate leaders, are putting up stiff resistance.
Observers say the resistance has placed the government of Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi in a delicate position because it needs to balance the competing demands from the majority Muslims. While non-Muslims want common law and the secular constitution of Malaysia preserved and protected, Muslims demand a society based on Sharia....
In Malaysia, a strong undercurrent of dissatisfaction has been building up among the country's minority communities against fundamentalists pushing the Islamic way into many matters - from banking and halal food to family matters, education and personal issues such as religious conversion.
In effect, two parallel societies - Muslim and non-Muslim - have gradually replaced what was a pluralistic, secular Malaysian society based on common law that was the legacy British colonials handed over upon independence in 1957....
The last straw was the forced burial last month of a 36-year-old soldier and mountaineer, M Moorthy, as a Muslim, over the protest of his Hindu wife. Judge Mohamed Raus Sharif ruled that his civil court had no jurisdiction to hear an application by S Kaliammal that her husband was Hindu.
Sharif refused to alter an ex parte judgment, obtained from a Sharia court by the Islamic Affairs Department Sharia, that deemed that the dead man had converted to Islam - in effect telling non-Muslims that they have no remedy in such cases.
The protest has, thus far, been peaceful - a candlelight vigil at Sharif's office, a signature campaign, and a memorandum to the prime minister.
In addition, about 30 influential Hindu organizations have formed an umbrella Hindu Rights Action Force (HRAF) to protect the rights of minorities to religious freedom. The HRAF mounted a protest outside the palace this week and petitioned the king, who is constitutionally the head of Islam, to intervene....
The crux of their demand is a repeal of Article 121 (1A) of the constitution that was amended in 1988 to state that the civil court had no jurisdiction on matters under the purview of the Sharia court....
However, Muslim organisations have warned that any attempt to repeal Article 121 (1A) would be strongly resisted.
The Malay National Force (TERAS), a Malay non-government organization, said in a statement that Article 121 (1A) provided specific guarantees that the civil court will not interfere in Islamic matters.
"The Sharia court should not be seen as an institution that denies justice to non-Muslims. On the contrary, if its laws are fully applied, there is an assurance of better justice here compared to civil laws, which are the heritage of British colonial rule," said TERAS president Mohamad Azmi Abdul Hamid.
This is the common Muslim assertion that the Sharia offers a superior societal model. This assertion founders on fact in regard to freedom of conscience, the rights of women, the rights of religious minorities, and more.
Human-rights lawyer P Uthayakumar asked: "How can anyone even suggest such a remedy to non-Muslims? What becomes of the civil law, the judicial system and the secular constitution?"We non-Muslims have suffered long enough. The government should intervene immediately and put an end to non-Muslim fears and misery," he said. "The uncertainties have gone on for far too long."...
Abdullah has offered a cautious response. "I am looking into the matter and hope to prevent problems like this from happening," he said this week.
But non-Muslims, who fear that Sharia is becoming the supreme law of the land, want more than soothing words to alleviate their anxiety that common law and the civil justice system are under threat.

It is high time to start a ACRAF (AMERICAN CHRISTIAN RIGHTS ACTION FORCE) in USA to safeguard the interest of our land, culture and faith . We are helpless, when our Government, and Courts always side these evil doers,in spite of Sep 11. These Courts agree to pullout the Ten Commandments out of court buildings, introduce Islamic education to non-muslim Students, when they deny the same right to Christians and other faiths, and to support CAIR against Evangelicals, and others ,who pinpoint the Islamic attrocities in America.
In this respect J/W and D/W stand in the forefront, and its neumerous Posters stand a standing witness to the frustrations, of the majority ,helpless , Amercans. This example can be implimented by other Western and Canadian countries,if it proves tobe succesfull.

"...fundamentalists pushing the Islamic way into many matters--banking, halal food, education, family matters and personal issues such as religious conversion." Listen up---people living in Western secular societies. These complaints will be yours a few years down the road. Didn't a Chicago, IL bank just open a branch which is "sharia friendly?"

Yes they did, but the "Islamic Bank" turns out to be a fiction. they make mortagae loans at "no interest", but at the end you have to buy back the "key" to your house, and, surprise, the cost of the key equals the amount of interest that would be charged on a normal loan.
True islamic banking would be no bank at all, and is one of the reasons that there has been no effective economic progress in islamic countries for 1500 years. Just because you keep saying the 2+2=5 don't make it so, and I can't believe that Allah thinks that way!

Robert,
The situation in Malaysia is even worse than the expansion of Sharia. Islamic Parties and organizations in northern Malaysia are actively aiding the Jihad in southern Thailand. The Malay regime is probably behind this assistance while maintaining "plausible denial" as official policy. Meanwhile, they masquerade as pro-American and pro-British while co-gullibles Bush and Blair swallow their propaganda.
The following policies need to be adopted.
1. Support the establishment of viable independence movements in Sarawak and Sabah. These two "states" on the island of Borneo were illegally handed over to the Malays by the British colonialists. Both are overwhelmingly Christian and Buddhist and chafe under the rule of Muslim rule from Kuala Lumpur.
Beyond this, Sarawak and Sabah is an area rich in natural resources which are being pillaged by the central government. An independent Sarawak would be a Christian/Buddhist oil power equal to Brunei in production. Mostly Catholic Sabah sits on one of the world's largest pools of natural gas.
Because of the large Chinese population in these two nations, they could probably guarantee their independence by signing a security treaty with China. The independence of these two Malaysian colonies on northern Borneo would strip the Muslim government of nearly 70 percent of its revenues while creating two non-Islamic economic powerhouses in Southeast Asia.
The subsequent loss of prestige for the regime in K.L. could then be a catalyst for the economically dominant Chinese and Indians on the Malay Penninsula to seize power away from the more backward Muslim Malays, especially if Thailand (with China's support) were to militarily intervene on their behalf.

-- from a posting above
The story of the reaction of non-Muslims to the growing support for the extension of Shari'a in of Malaysia is not exhausted by a single story. One thing happens, and then another thing happens. First reported was the burial of M. Moorthy as a Muslim despite the protests of his Hindu family. This story reflected a general fear, and since the outcry over that case, more non-Muslims appear willing to express their unhappiness, their misery, their fears. Surely you don't want the story dropped?
How many times has something been put up about the Danish newspaper and the threats to it? And yet there are new developments all the time. It has just come to JW's attention that the Danish Muslims travelling aroudn the world to whip up indignation among Muslim governments and their co-religionists apparently did not find the 12 cartoons offensive enough, so they either commissioned 3 extra ones, or picked them up from some other source, and have included them as part of what the Jyllens-Posten supposedly published. Shouldn't that deception be a new story, and the three new cartoons described?
Of course there is overlap; of course there is repetition. How could there not be? And there should be, because the piling up and piling up of evidence, and along with that piling up the awareness that visitors here may come not every day but every other day, or twice a week, or once a week, and such overlap does not hinder but helps.
Had I my druthers, I would try to inveigle people to look at past postings. The stories seldom date. Go away for a week or two, and come home to piled-up newspapers, and note how little you missed. But go back, search around, in the dustbins of Jihad Watch -- google anything, goole "Thailand" and "Jihad Watch" or "United Nations "and"Jihad Watch" or "France" and "Jihad Watch" or "Weiss-Schwartz Syndrome" and "Jihad Watch" -- and what you find could often be put up today.
Under the article about "Muslim Moderates" by Robert Spencer put up today, one comment consisted of a re-posting dating from last April, recovered by googling "Weiss-Schwartz Syndrome." Justified by the realization that few, if nay, would have remembered that posting from nine months ago.
Repetition of entire paragraphs, single sentences, words, in postings and articles is often deliberately undertaken for pedagogic purposes. Even words that are part of one poster's idiolect -- "treacly" and "jettison" and "sinister"-- may start appearing with noticeable frequency in the postings of others. That is not to be deplored.
When a story is not over but develops in time (like the cartoons of Muhamamd), then it is necessary to keep putting up articles, not to let that story drop. When repetition of words and phrases in the expression of certain ideas (as in frequent posts about the Light Unto the Muslim Nations project), this is easier on both writer and reader. If you are attempting to marshall the same arguments, why should you have to rephrase everything afresh each time? Besides, if you want your arguments to be remembered, the repetition helps. Some visitors come every day; some every other day, or once a week. Some have been visiting the site for several years, some started to do so last week and have no idea what has been discussed before.
The impulse is innocently mnemonic, not calculatedly demonic.
Should there be another story, or a few, on what is going on in Malaysia, over the next month, each adding something to the one before, those postings would not be redundant.
When repetition seems to be unjustified, because total or nearly so, it must be the result of erring humans. Please bring examples to the attention of the Management.
And then extend to those erring humans some of that forgiveness which is said to be divine.

The same martyrdom philosophy, a death wish of excuses, were used by Jews with a merchant mentality standing in line to "Let's make another deal with evil", after all a good Army is very expensive and look Muslims are so many and we are so few. The Arab/Muslims and Academic Social-Marxist are very excited with the results of Islam philosophy of hate, rape and murder and with desires of Israel to continue to capitulate.
I'm sure the same is true for all Kafir. Muhammed's sanctified Arab traditions and solutions, have inspired 1350 years of the Sword of Islam for kafir of world are in the Koran, somewhere, along with Muslim 7th century Laws for all Peace Loving Islam.

very interesting what you write
Even more interestingif we replace a few words such as
Kuala Lumpur with Jakarta
Sarawak with Kalimantan
Sabah with Sulawesi
We see the same in Indonesia as we do in Malaysia

Won't be long before the riots start. As soon as the opposition starts gaining momentum the knives come out.
I can already see Mahatir Mohammed lecturing the BS-networks about how Islamic laws must be 'respected' in Malaysia.

"The non-Muslim world needs to engage the Malays, get them out of the orbit of the Arabs."
-- from a posting above
And has been noted many times before, an independent Kurdistan, an example of a non-Arab Muslim state being created despite attempts by Arab Muslims to prevent its creation, and prompted by a history of enduring Arab persecution and mass murder, would have repercussions far beyond Iraq.
80% of the world's Muslims are non-Arabs. They are persuaded to believe that the Qur'an should, ideally, be read and as much of it as possible be memorized (by the madrassa students giving their youthful brains over to such hideous memorization of words in a language they do not understand). They are persuaded to take Arab names, and often false Arab lineages. Many even claim to be "sayyids" or descendants of the Prophet. The model for conduct is to be found in the customs, and ways, of 7th-century Arabia, in the behavior of Muhammad, uswa hasana, al-insan al-kamil, and to a much lesser extent, in that of those around him, or those who were his successors.
Furthermore, Islam discourages, and is actively hostile to, all things non-Islamic. This includes the histories of peoples upon whom Islam was then forced; they forget, are made to forget, their own pre-Islamic pasts. The Hindu past of India was recovered, in large part, because the British toppling of the Mughals, allowed the Hindus to rediscover what the ruling Muslims had not permitted. English Orientalists -- the celebrated Sir William Jones was known, with great respect, as "Oriental" Jones --- helped in the sympathetic study of Hindu law and literature, including the study of Sanskrit which, in turn, had such importance for European students of language (e.g., Max Muller at Oxford).
Everywhere that the Arab Muslims have prevailed over other, non-Arab Muslims, they have used Islam as a vehicle for Arab supremacism. Thnk of the Berber language, which for years under the Arabs could not be spoken in public, or taught in the schools of the Kabyle region. Only after riots in Tizi-Ouzo and elsewhere, only when it became clear that the Berbers (whose party, and party's leader Sa'ad Sa'adi, is the most secular, and least "Islamic," in Algria) were not giving up did the government finally relent and at least permit the use, and transmission, of Berber. Would Berbers not notice the success of the Kurds at maintaining their autonomy, taking control of the oil wealth under historically Kurdish lands, pushing back their traditional persecutors, the Arabs, even managing to seize more territory, possibly, where Kurds live, in Syria, and Iran?
And instead of discussing Darfur in abstract terms, why not explain exactly what it is? A classic example of Arab contempt and hatred for black Africans (the original slave trade, that began centuries earlier, ended nearly two centuries later if indeed it did end, and claimed many more victims, was that of the Arabs), even if they were considered to have accepted Islam?
The failure of the American government even to begin to talk about this matter, and to attempt everywhere it can, to promote local cultures and languages within the Dar al-Islam, and resentment of the o'erweening Arabs -- as a way both to sow divisions within Muslim ranks, but also to make Islam less appealing to those non-Arabs who have had Islam forced down their throats, or rather those of their ancestors, , but only by pointing out what is there for all to see, and once clearly pointed out, cannot be un-seen.
Why, for example, should one not, every time one meets a Pakistani, refer to what must have been the terrible treatment of Hindu (or possibly Buddhist) ancestors, forced to accept Islam in order either to escape death or dhimmitude? Repeated often enough, it will begin to stick -- it may first cause fury in those to whom one addresses it, but how can an Indian Muslim, a Muslim in Pakistan, or in Bangladesh, or for that matter in Palo Alto or Bradford, not in the end recognize that it was all a matter, in the dim past, of being made, Mafia-like, an offer that some could not refuse. And perhaps slough off the lendings of seventh-century Arabia, in a spirit of, at long last -- free at last.

We are in an existential fight to the death...the death of our culture and way of life. Islam is an slow and insidious method of rooting out and strangling the host culture on which it focuses. As Hugh as so eloquently stated, Arab imperialism, i.e., Islam, uses hostility against all that is not Islamic to create revulsion and then forgetfulness of all things non-Islamic. Our choice is either to give in or to vigorously defend our culture and way of life. Unfortunately to do so we must use the same psychology: revulsion toward all things Islamic...there is no middle ground when dealing with Islam.

Malaysia has the loud, foul mouthed Marthier Mohamed to advance the arab/muslim agenda. While he was in power he foul mouthed the west all the time. A typical ungrateful Muslim who was educated in the West. Malaysia today is what it is, because of the West. Thanks to the West it brought about civil order and prosperity to a group of feudal archaic backward states.

Most people do not realise this. The time scale for strangulation of our culture is in the decades or even a century or more. In a couple of hundred years, muslims will be a far greater proportion of the population, if not an outright majority. Moreover they will legitimately see themselves as native to the West. It is then we can expect a civil war followed by partition. All over the West that is the scenario that will occur - the most benign one on offer. The worst is a straightforward takeover. The Islamists openly say so, indeed shout it from the rooftops, but our elite media and politicians do not hear. They regard ignorance of history and tolerance of the intolerant as a virtue.

Shiva,
You're absolutely right that this applies to Indonesia as well. Not just Kalimantan but also Manado, the Malluccas, West Papua, Riau, Bali etc.
Indonesia is an empire contructed by Dutch colonizers and it is past time that it break up into its original nations.
Except for Aceh and parts of Java, Islam has very shallow roots and a resurgence of the original Malay Hinduism is not far-fetched. There have been some organized movements in this direction as well as widespread abandonment of Islam for Christianity and Buddhism in some areas of Indonesia. These need to be supported.
