This would not be a "breakthrough." This would be a large-scale dhimmi capitulation. The fact that the Iranians think this is a great idea indicates that they don't envision it putting any brakes on their plans whatsoever. "Iran breakthrough may be in sight," from The Scotsman, with thanks to Zhu:
A POTENTIAL breakthrough in the nuclear stand-off with Iran came last night when the Iranian ambassador in Moscow praised a proposal to move Tehran's uranium enrichment programme to Russia. As Britain, the United States, Russia, France and China met in London yesterday to discuss how to handle Iran's illegal nuclear development, the country was facing the growing certainty that it would be referred to the UN Security Council.
While China remained resolutely silent on the possibility of sanctions - a move which it has the power to veto - Russia made significant moves towards the western stance on Iran's nuclear programme.
Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, said last night that his position is "very close" to that of the United States and Britain. And it appeared that he could hold the key to a resolution when Iran's ambassador to Russia, Gholamreza Ansari, welcomed an offer to move the Iranian uranium enrichment programme to Russia.Such a move would mean Iran, which is developing a missile which could reach Israel, could not acquire enough material for a bomb.
"As far as Russia's proposal is concerned, we consider it constructive and are carefully studying it. This is a good initiative to resolve the situation. We believe that Iran and Russia should find a way out of this jointly," said Mr Ansari.

This deal is simply another North Korea. Moreover, nothing in this deal requires Iran to dismantle their nuclear fuel facilities and submit the materials for UN certification. The world will just have the words of the ulema and Madman Ahmedinajad.

I think it's funny how Iran is now "OK" with Russia supplying the uranium when they rejected the idea twice in the past. I think Russia just helped them circumvent the UN. The original article states
"The fact that Iran is so concerned not to see it referred to the Security Council underlines the strength of the UN," he said. "
This is complete BS! It just shows how impotent the UN is. I think the UN should reject this option now and continue on the path of referral to the Security Council. In any case, I think the best outcome any of us could hope for is that a number of Iran's nuclear plants will become Chernobyls in the future.

It should be quite obvious to evryone that Iran once it has the Bomb will make it available to terrorist groups to attack the west.
They will work as they have always done , by Proxy never attacking directly so they can both be "at war with the west" and "NOT at war with the west" thereby insuring the support of the hordes of western progressive liberals in the Unis and media. Such support will be used to counter any move by conservative governments to retaliate against it and to claim that the terrorists are a minority in the world of "peaceful islam".

Putin is playing both sides on this one.
Russia so wants to be a major player in that area again, both politically and for the moolah that comes from selling nuclear facilities and weaponry.
Remembering Chernobyl, maybe a few Russian built nuclear reactors in Iran isn't such a bad idea; anyway, the Iranians are either foolhardy or stupid to want Russian technology, even next generation tech.
My problem with the proposed Russian enrichment of Iranian uranium, is the recreation of a strong Russian/Iranian/Syrian alliance.

Putin be damned! He is stoking the fire that will burn as all. He is no friend of America or even Russia.
