Muslim World League calls on UN to validate cartoon rage

"Disdaining religion," eh? Such "insolence"! This is an increasingly strong challenge to a fundamental basis of a free society. If one is not free to write something critical of any belief-system or group, if any belief-system or group is held immune from such criticism, then freedom of speech does not actually exist. A free society means the freedom to reject, to criticize, even to ridicule. Without this freedom of speech and freedom of thought are hollow and meaningless.

"Muslim World League calls for UN interventions against disdaining religions," from the Kuwait News Agency, with thanks to Twostellas:

RIYADH, Jan 28 (KUNA) -- Muslim World League (MWL) called Saturday on the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan to activate international laws against insolence of religions.

MWL Secretary General Dr Abdullah Al-Turki condemned, in a letter addressed to Annan, the discretion of Prophet Mohammed (PBU) by Danish and Norwegian newspapers, which published cartoon depicting the Prophet in a disrespectful way.

Al-Turki said in the letter that Muslims around the world felt very offended by the unethical campaign, noting that international laws prohibited scorning religions and other hatred-provoking practices.

He stressed that UN should intervene to stop media campaigns against Islam, which might ignite clashes between different cultures.

Moreover, he called on Annan to immediately and directly contact the Danish and Norwegian governments to demand them to ban media campaigns against Islam and to officially apologize for the Muslim nation.

Al-Turki also called on the international community to adopt a clear law criminalizing individuals and institutions that disrespect religions.

Al-Turki.

Now isn't that a perfect name for someone promoting such idiocy.

They couldn't be more ridiculous if they had planned it.

Time to lam-baste all these turkeys with more mockery.

No freedom, no peace.

Al-Turki also called on the international community to adopt a clear law criminalizing individuals and institutions that disrespect religions.

So... how would this affect Saudi Arabia? And Iran?

"Al-Turki also called on the international community to adopt a clear law criminalizing individuals and institutions that disrespect religions."

This might actually be a good thing. A quick glance at the MEMRI archives would be enough to find out who would be the major culprits. By all means, criminalize Islam and the Koran. Make it official.

... adopt a clear law criminalizing individuals and institutions that disrespect religions.

And political ideologies posing as fake religions, would they be included?

"MWL Secretary General Dr Abdullah Al-Turki condemned, in a letter addressed to Annan, the discretion of Prophet Mohammed"

That warrants a "[SIC]", while the whole story warrants a "[SICK]".

Stories like this make me want to become a cartoonist.

Jyllands-Posten has sent an open letter to Saudi Arabia... Not really sure it's an apology, but it's definately a step in the wrong direction...

(My own translation so bear with me)

Honoured citizens of the Kingdom og Saudi-Arabia.

Allow me this opportunity to correct some misunderstandings regarding the caricatures of the prophet Muhammed, which have now lead to a boycott of Danish product in Your country.

The caricatures were published 4 months ago as a part of a Danish debate regarding freedom of speech - a freedom we highly value in Denmark.
The initiative has been presented as a campaign against muslims in Denmark and the world over. This I have to categorically refute. It was not our intent to offend anyone on their faith. That it happened anyway, was also unintentional. We have expressed our regret several times over the past months. Both in our own paper, in other papers, on tv, on the radio and in international media. We have simultaneously held/completed meetings with representatives of the muslim community in Denmark. They have taken place in a positive and constructive spirit, just as we are also trying to establish a "giving" dialog with danish muslims in other ways.

We are sad that the issue has reached the current scope and therefore we reiteratem we did not intend to offend anyone, and that we, as does the Danish society in general, respect freedom of religion.

Posted by: DanishDynamite [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 28, 2006 12:48 PM

Didn't Jyllandsposten or any Danish representative ask the Saudis, for a change, how they respect religions (in plural) and religious freedom of all? This is a perfect moment to ask it, instead of apologising for treating, for a moment, Islam like any other religion (that is, allowing it to be made fun of) - instead of raising it above all others and beyond criticism, as is obviously expected!

This is a wonderful opportunity for Kofi Annan and the UN to stand on principle---freedom of speech. Which...if someone is going to stand on something...is a pretty good place to make a stand. But, I have every confidence tha Kofi and the UN will continue on the same path as the League of Nations.

Apparently al-turkey is so deluded that he is oblivious to his own hypocrisy. Islam deserves the same respect it affords Judaism, Christianity, Hinduism, etc. Outraged Islamic totalitarians are so pathetic, especially when they equate parody with human rights. If the Islamic clerics around the world didn't want to incite the muslim herds into apoplectic frenzies, they would shut up about the cartoons and let this silly issue die a natural death.

They are encouraging a clash between cultures with their incessant whining, and their ridiculous demands for mea culpas are attempts to firmly establish Islamic superiority. Respect and tolerance are reciprocal except when muslims are part of the equation. They are getting exactly what they deserve------contempt.

Posted by: Susanp [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 28, 2006 2:44 PM

Thanks to these fair and sensitive cultural relativists at the U.N., the Saudis are allowed to pull these tricks and distractions about cartoons, and waste all kinds of our time and money, while they continue to execute people for exercising freedom of conscience and freedom of expression. We are catering to the society that educated most of the 9-11 hijackers, an education that aimed them at us like missiles long before they ever attended an Al-Qaeda camp. Their entire society has been, quite intentionally, educated to hate us. This is a society that is soaked in anti-western and anti-Jewish hatred. Bin Laden is more popular there than any other person. They are the most arrogant people on earth. They fund the building of mosques, which are centers of hate, all over the planet, while banning all non-Muslim religions in their own country. How much more of this are we expected to put up with from these dictators, royal sleaze, torturers, misogynists, bigots, and terrorists?

The U.N. is wasting time with this, and should state in public that it will not got involved. If it trys to discuss the issue, demands for others to have free relgion practice should issue forth from the U.S. through Bolton.

THIS IS SUCH ABSOLUTE CRAP. THE UN DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS PROCLAIMS A RIGHT TO CHANGE RELIGION. VIRTUALLY EVERY ISLAMIC COUNTRY LEGALLY PREVENTS MUSLIMS FROM CHANGING RELIGION OR NON-MUSLIMS FROM PROSYLETIZING MUSLIMS. YET EVERY WESTERN COUNTRY ALLOWS FULL RIGHTS FOR ISLAM. WE DEMAND ABSOLUTELY NO RECIPROCITY FROM THE ISLAMIC WORLD. SAUDI ARABIA AND OTHER ISLAMIC NATIONS PREVENT ANY DISPLAY OF NON-MUSLIM RELIGIOUS SYMBOLS AND BURNS BIBLES. JEWS CANNOT LEGALLY SET FOOT IN S. ARABIA. THE DOUBLE-STANDARDS ARE ENDLESS.

WHEN ARE WESTERN LIBERAL REPORTERS/POLITICIANS GOING DEVELOP SOME BACKBONE???????????? IF DENMARK IS FORCED TO CAVE, WESTERN "LIBERAL" FREEDOM WILL BE DEAD. DEAD. DEAD. WHAT WILL IT TAKE????? LIFE WITHOUT FREEDOM IS NOT WORTH LIVING. NON-MUSLIMS HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE IN FIGHTING BACK. WHAT WILL IT TAKE FOR EVERYONE TO RECOGNIZE THIS FACT???????

YES, I'M PISSED AND FRUSTRATED. I SPENT MANY YEARS IN THE INFANTRY AND DEPLOYED TO THE MIDDLE EAST A NUMBER OF TIMES. DID I SACRIFICE FOR LIBERAL VALUES WHILE FRIGGIN COWARDLY WESTERN LIBERALS ARE DOING NOTHING TO HELP???????

ISLAM IS THE BIGGEST LIE ON THE FACE OF THE EARTH. IT GROWS AND IS HELD TOGETHER BASED ON FEAR AND COERSION. I WILL NEVER SURRENDER TO SOMETHING THIS EVIL!!!!!!!!!!!!

The funny thing is that here in the West anybody can attack or denigrate Jesus, while mild criticism of Islam is viewed as racist.

Last year there was a Muslim guest speaker in one of my classes, and she went on about how Islam believes in equality. She subsequently blamed everything from terrorism to Islams social problems on the West. When I commented that Islam's political, social, and economic backwardness is of its own making, and that its not a coinceidence that the Christian world is more advanced than the Muslim world in every respect, two of my classmates, one Muslim, and one of her leftist friends, went to the office of discrimination and tried to get me in trouble for racism. Yet in this same classroom Chritianity is attacked by leftists regularly. It's almost surreal that Muslims have their anti Western allies in the classrooms of the civilizaton they seek to subjugate.

My classroom is a microcosm of the U.N. At the U.N. anti semitism or anti Western sentiment is accepted and even encouraged, while a little cartoon that makes fun of Mohammed, that pedophile murderer, evokes calls for international sanctions.

The audacity of it all leaves me speechless.

There was nothing offensive in those cartoons; the muslims are making a mountain out of a molehill. If they think that all of their ranting and raving is going to stop things of this nature, they are mistaken. If anything it will provoke more people to draw more outrageous and yes funny cartoons depicting Islam in its proper negative light. Perhaps even funny cartoon videos. When the freedom of speech is infringed the best solution is more free speech. If they thought that is offensive, just fricken wait. I think the comedians and cartoonists in America with testicular fortidude should appropriately come to the aid of our Danish friends by lampooning mohamMAD and islame.

Imagine if you will a cartoon video depicting mohammad at the beginning of his satanic ministry in search of converts.

Mohammad approaches his first non-Arabic potential convert, Mike, and they have the following conversation.

Mohammad: Hello, I’m the last prophet of Allah, Mohammad.

Mike: Hello nice to meet you mohammad, my name is Mike”. How do you know you’re the last prophet of Allah?

Mohammad: I know I’m the last prophet because Allah told me so, and I have this neat mole on my back to prove that it is a seal from Allah.

Mike: I’m sorry Mohammad, but that isn’t very convincing. However, since you’re a prophet can you tell me who is going to win the gladiator match next week?

Mohammad: I’m not that kind of prophet. I’m more like a televangelist kind of profit, like Robert Tilton. The following is a video of Robert Tilton in action.
http://www.break.com/index/fartpreach4.html

Perhaps someone more creative than me could complete the story with more accurate quotes from the Cran.

Lest you think I'm being too harsh, I'm a Catholic and I am able to laugh at what some people do to defame Christ. The following video is an example. Just imagine the uproar if mohammad were substituted for Christ. Remember to Christians, Jesus is not just a man but God and mohammad was only a man. Even though I'm a Christian I do find the following video amusing. I'm not out clamoring for this guy to have his head lopped off, nor am I trying to protest the website hosting the video.

An international law against "insolance against religion" could be levied against Muslims that mistreat non-Muslims in the name of religion and "hate them for their disbelief." Of course, in the eyes of the World League, such behaviors are not considered to be insolance...

Posted by: epg [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 28, 2006 6:48 PM

oops.. insolence not insolance

From the Brussels link above:

"... Instead they said they just want two things: a guarantee from the Danish authorities that Muslims can freely practice their religion without being “provoked and discriminated.” And a declaration from Jyllands-Posten that the cartoons were not published with the intention of mocking the Muslim faith. “We want Jyllands-Posten to show respect for the Muslims. This can happen with an apology, but it can also happen in some other way. We will leave it to Jyllands-Posten to come up with some ideas,” said Ahmed Akkari, spokesman of the Muslim organizations. “We want respect for Muhammad restored and we want him to be described as the man he really was in history, and that he gets the respect he deserves,”

Akkari stressed that Muslim organizations are still deeply opposed to the publication of the cartoons.

Thats a good one!

Why don't we give them what they want: Why don't all European papers print 'what a man he was', how he raped and robbed and murdered, this vile 'prophet' who didn't prophesied anything. Why don't the MSM print how he married Aisha with 6 and how he 'consumed' the marriage when she was 9?

Add to this the constant raids and the mass-killings, the Qureiza Jews and all these 'great' murder-tales of this filthy prophet and his 'religion', which is nothing other than a vile and evil ideology, more totalitarian than Nazism or communism, based on booty and conquest and bloodlust: Yes, by all means, lets give 'em what they want!!!

(Do they really want it?)

Not only Iran and Saudi Arabia, but also in so called moderate country 'Egypt', the Muslim scholars in a very rude way ridicule and mock Christians and Christianity.
Muslims are very angry because Islam cannot stand criticism.

If Denmark wants advice on dealing with being a permanent Pariah at the UN I am certain that Israel is going to stand by Denmark on the issue of free speech, and it has 60 years of experience at being a pariah in the UN.

I wonder how these Muslim Bastard Savages would like their own media to be examined under these new rules they are proposing.

Well perhaps Denamark with support from Israel should retaliate by exposing the Muslim anti-semites for what they are.

Stories like this make me want to become a cartoonist. Posted by: DCWatson

If only I could draw...

One good cartoon of old Mo would be to have him humping someone, while feeding her with a feeding bottle with one hand. Have a black circle masking the pelvic regions (after all, we don't want to push porn), and to honor that tradition of not portraying Mo, have a similar black circle mask his face.

This would be a good rope-a-dope strategy, with the potential retort being,"How dare you suggest that Mo had sex with a 1 year old. He did it with a 9 year old". That would be some comeback.

On the subject of busting the Denmark boycott, I regularly (always have) bought Kirkland branded products at Costco. Does that count? Or is Kirkland not Danish?

We in Danmark are not going to back down, were sick of these people trying to push us around.

There seems to be a huge miss understanding, as I read the article.

Define freedom of speach? democracy?
I bet each person has a different definition. Confusing isn't it? Knowing true boundries of what people are talking about here.

now...

Is it a right to insult a religion?

e.g. "He is free to do what he wants, its democracy, so he can't blow up your house?"

Freedom of speech means its ok to insult? And the governing body has no ''power'' over its democracy? Last I check respect and manners is part of a civilization.

People are blinded between freedom of thought/speech and freedom of being rude, abusive, and basically disrespectful (a mirror of themselves?)

The problem lies in the fundementals of both parties. One thinks it can do what ever it ones (democracy), even if its disrespectful.

The other has a sense of responsiblity that this universe has a creator and laws that were passed to humans to answer to, i.e. in christianity no adultry and in Islam same thing. (alot of people define islam as the image seen on TV or CNN).

See the problem? The way I see it, democracy is a religion of this world, well not normal democracy, i.e. type of government, but i mean democracy the way of life, i.e. do whatever i want.

The believer and non believer, freedom guy is a non believer, cuz he has no belief in a creator he will answer to. Like he came from nothing? Now he wants to be free and do even wrong? Get the picture? so he can insult run around do what ever he wants, more like animals with out discipline, only with the help of an imagination, insult people here and there. Freedom? AIDS on the rise, crime and broken homes, shrinks have more ppl coming to them lately, why freedom not workin right?

Dont get me wrong, democracy ''the government'' is right (an elected government). ''democracy'' the way of life is whats wrong here.

Since when freedom of speech is to insult other religions, people, and nations?

I think thats a low point in human history for lack of respect and manners.

Either way you look at it, the more YOU DONT UNDERSTAND the more you will hate, and the more you will wrong yourself for your ignorance, and write based on hate. vicious circle it is.

Go read from the source... if you know what i mean, you might enlighten your life?

Lastly, insulting the prophet (pbuh) of a religion, is insulting the whole religion, i.e. no one told the demo ppl to do that, so let them reap what they planted.

Avante-guarde? more like avante-ignorance, boys with no manners or respect, want to play around, they got something called am free to do what i want? So can you fly? Can you NOT die? i thought you were free. Then he realized he was just playing around, a game called ''i am free''. Wake up.

You can't compare two different things, i.e. Islam to your standards. It is above any standards. Its from the creator of all, how can humans compare to it? It the way of life, and creator of all passed it down.

Posted by: westinghouse3 [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 29, 2006 3:33 PM

One final thought...

God is Lord of the three religions, Islam .. etc

Who is the Lord, of the "i am free" "I can insult" movement of people? So alone, and so sadly missguided. When cornered they insult.

Sadly they got none but there imagination and self desired thoughts.

Go to hell Westinghouse, you should find out if the cartoonists were right about how Mohhamad looked.

"Is it a right to insult a religion?"

Yes, and infact one of the greatest heros of Free Speech Voltaire spent his entire career doing just that. Voltaire never had sex with a nine year old girl, therefore Voltaire is a better example to follow then Mohhamad.

Religion is not above criticism, especially a religion founded by a man who commited genocide against the jews, waged violent wars of agression, and raped little girls.

If you feel that those 12 cartoons are unbearable taugh I support them fully.

Oh and remember the saying he who lives in a glass house ought not throw stones.

Well it fully aplies here because Islam creates virulently anti-semitic cartoons on a daily basis and distributes them everywere. The Arab press claims rascist stereotypes like jews eating christian children is proven facts, and makes outrageous claims about Israel.

This is the perfect opportunity for Denmark and Israel to attack the anti-semitic Islamist Pigs who produce ani-semitic filth everywere they go.

If a picture is drawn of Mo on the space station , and displayed there, what could you do?

Cartoons tell a story, most all tell the truth. The cartoons as drawn show this, is the truth disrespectful ?

Wait one minute. Is this the same Suadi Arabia that the news organization al Jazeera operates from? The same organization hat takes pleasure in televising the beheadings of innocent people that are just trying to help OTHER MUSLIMS live above the stone age?
"Aint this the skillet callin' the kettle black?"
Jive Turki needs to clean up his own house before he goes about trying to tell other folks about their's!!!
Muslims never miss a opportunity to put down Christianity and Jesus. But yet you never hear a sound of outrage from anyone in the Christian community. But say anything about Islam, here come the imans, Ayatollas, Islamic apologists, and the leftists of the world to force an apology.
Now Jive Turki wants to make it against the law to "Disrespect religions." Don't make me laugh!!!
Anyone that is a regular to this website knows what that means. these Islamofeces;
1) Want to make Islam the worlds religion, thus

2) Plunging the entire free world into peril. By causing each nation of the world to give up their sovereignty for Islam, thus.

3) Enforcing sharia law on a global scale.

And what better way to do this than with the help of the United Nations? Kofi Annan is only too happy to help any Muslim country that will line his pocket. (Food for oil scandal with Sadman Insane.) And we all know how much the United Nations love the United States.
If these entities can suppress the world community from FREE EXPRESSION, they seem to think that it'll make Islam that much attractive. It won't. This will further expose Islam for the fraud that it is. Christianity and the Bible can stand on it's own. This has been proven over the years. Christianity is the most attacked lifesytle practice in the world, the Bible the most scrutinized holy tome. Both have SURVIVED ON PROVEN PRINCIPALS. No help from the United Nations or any other world body. Christianity stands on its own merit. The Bible dosen't hide the fact that it's a bloody book. But God also makes it clear in the Bible that this was not His plan for mankind.
The Bible tells prophecy. The koran only rules and regulations from a certified madman. Not one letter of proven prophecy.
Christianinty dosen't make the claim of being a "religion of peace." Jesus said it Himself;
"Think not that I am come to send peace on earth:
I came not to send peace, but a sword.
35) For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter against her mother in law.
36) And a man's foes shall be they of his own household."
Matthew 10:34-36.
This is Jesus talking. (But to get the full understanding of the text, read Matthew 10. The whole chapter. It'll open your eyes.)
Islam, on the other hand claims to be a "religion of peace", but even can't even maintain peace with fellow Muslims!!! (The Islamic insurgents Vs. the Iraqi people. The Sunnis vs. the Shites.)
Lets just sit back on this one and let it play out. Jive Turki dosen't realize that he and his stone age government are just helping to prove the point that Islam is nothing more than a dictorial religious practice and that the United Nations is nothing more than a puppet of the Third World. To use against the United States and the entire Free World. This is a cosmic comedy in the works!!! Lets just sit back and enjoy the laughs!!!
