Free Speech Death Watch in Eurabia: "EU mulls media code after cartoon protests," from Reuters, with thanks to the Constantinopolitan Irredentist:
LONDON (Reuters) - The European Union may try to draw up a media code of conduct to avoid a repeat of the furor caused by the publication across Europe of cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad, an EU commissioner said on Thursday. In an interview with Britain's Daily Telegraph, EU Justice and Security Commissioner Franco Frattini said the charter would encourage the media to show "prudence" when covering religion.
"The press will give the Muslim world the message: We are aware of the consequences of exercising the right of free expression," he told the newspaper. "We can and we are ready to self-regulate that right."
We'll bend over backwards not to offend you. Just please, please don't hurt us.

This is not the first time Faint-hearted Franco has led the retreat. If you wish to offer some timely advice, he can be contacted directly:

Worth reading.

The EU is not limited to bending over backwards.

This is "yesterdays news"... Franco Frattini issued a press release earlier today, wherein he states there will be no media code of conduct coming from the EU.

DanishDynamite, I hope you are correct, because if not I will jump into a plane and picket that bastards office. Code of conduct, who came out with that crap, Chirac?

Daffersd,
Well it says here http://www.jp.dk/indland/artikel:aid=3547590:fid=11326/ that he issued a press release saying there would be no "code of conduct".
The idea has been aired in the EU several times before, so I wouldn't be shocked if they try to push it in the near future.

The last thing you want to do is make muslims mad.
They become 'mad' very easilly and often come unglued. Just in case you did'nt know, fury is a blessing from Allah. The more furious they get the bigger the blessing...soon the fury reaches such Allahic hights that the 'Orgasm of Maddness'
occurs. They are mad, I tell you, mad, and their cups runneth over with some of the wierdest stuff imaginable.
You dont have to believe me, just look what some cartoons did for them...please dont make them mad any more...thanks...

I spit on every fool that tells me Islam is a "RoP..."
I spit on every a-sole that tells me this is just a 'tiny, tiny minority of extremists' and ' you can't paint them all with one brush'...
I spit on every polit-prop that caves in for fear of 'offending the sensitivities of Mohammedan murderers..'
I spit on the creeps that want to bring this website down by smearing it as a "hate site..."
I spit on CNN and the BBC and all the cowards who refuse to tell the truth about the RoP,
I curse the cowards in the media and the polit-props that are shitting themselves over Mohammedan violence and threats,
I despair over the fools who remain ignorant because they fail to inform themselves and learn about the RoP,
I support any party left and right, downunder or above that promises to get rid of the RoP,
I swear at and curse every Jack Chamberline (Straw) who sells out to the RoP,
Internment and deportations, NOW!

Thanks Obelisk1 for that Times article.
Franco Frattini has me hopping mad; what a jerk to have as commissioner of EU Justice and Security.
He will not produce security by stomping on those who exercise the right of free speech; and as for justice, sure wouldn't like to have that weak kneed clown head of justice in my country.
We will soon lose justice if we lose free speech.
Frattino should resign, now. He's a disgrace.

Agree with you 'sheik yer'mami' 100%, on your post. I once tried telling everyone that there are no moderate Muslims. A Muslim is one who believes in Mohamet and the Quran, so how could anyone one who does so be moderate in our view. Some people came down on me like a ton of bricks for saying that. Now, I hope their eyes are open. The mere fact a Muslims smiles at you, when you buy your local paper in the UK does not mean that he is a gentleman. Meet him in a dark alley and ask him about the silly cartoons, then you will see how his demeanor change; he will slit your throat before you know what happened; because that is what their religion calls for.

Muhammad forced his followers to leave their families (8:72) and gathered them in Yathrib. He said: “And those who believed but did not leave their homes, ye have no duty to protect them till they leave their homes”. He warned those who did not follow him, leaving behind their families, will be cursed by Allah and “their habitation will be hell”(4:97). Muhammad went as far as to order his followers to murder those Muslims who defected his barricade.(4:89) In Yathrib he banished and killed the Jews who did not believe in him, thus eliminating the chance of his followers coming in contact with outsiders and being influenced by anyone. In this way he exerted absolute control over the lives and the minds of his followers. Jim Jones did the same. He called his town “Jonestown”. Muhammad changed the name of Yathirb to Madinatul Nabi (Prophet’s Town)

The criticism of Muhammad and Islam was totally prohibited and if anyone dared to question him or his decisions, Omar swiftly unshielded his sword and threatened to slash the throat of the intrepid questioner forcing him to apologize. The message was sent in a very clear tone that no one must question Muhammad and his authority. 1400 years later, the message remains the same. If you question Islam you will be killed.
7. Muslims are told to dismiss any criticism of Islam as coming from Satan and they often avoid reading critical views about their Faith. I have received testimonies of apostates who confessed that at first when they came across this site they stopped reading it and dismissed it as the work of Satan. I myself never read any book critical of Islam and once frowned at a friend who expressed her curiosity about Salman Rushdie’s Satanic Verses.
8. Muslims are encouraged to spy on each other and report any sign of dissent. Amr bil Maroof wa Nahi anil Munkir (Commanding to follow the religion and preventing from doing what is prohibited) is a tenet of Islam. Every Muslim is required to poke his nose in the private lives of others, spy on them and tell them what they should do and what they should not do. Every Muslim is an enforcer of religion and the moral police for others.
9. Muslims suppress anything that might present Islam in negative light. Preserving the image of Islam is of utmost importance and Muslims lie with clarity of conscience to misrepresent their religion and make it look good. For example women in Islam are treated like animals and are considered as deficient in intelligence. Every Muslim knows that including the women, who blame the men for it but not the Islam. But they lie through their teeth bragging about the “elevated” status of women in Islam. Jihad means aggressive war to expand Islam. Every Muslim knows that. Yet all of them lie and say Jihad means “self defense”. A couple of years ago I received a very angry email from a Muslim who cursed me for revealing the fact that Muhammad had slept with a 9-year old child and at the end he said “the damage is already done” and I will be certainly punished for what I had done. The fact that Muhammad slept with a child did not bother this Muslim but what bothered him was revealing this fact.

By now the whole world have seen the MOBS of the compassionate and merciful Allah, the followers of Mohamed, their self proclaimed prophet that according to them, their Koran and himself was sent as mercy to the worlds (all creatures).
Unless you don’t live on our planet earth, you should have been fulfilled by now, emotionally, spiritually, compassionately, mercifully and the whole 9 yards by the site of the Mohammedans burning Scandinavian embassies and flags that just happened to bear crosses, spitting and stepping on them.
Terrorizing Christian minorities in the occupied Islamic countries and destroying their properties. Bombing, destroying and vandalizing churches in Iraq, Lebanon, Egypt, Syria, indonesia, pakistan and across the arabo-islamo peaceful world, that just happened to be on the way, or out of the way. Killing a catholic priest in Turkey.
Causing death and chaos across the world with deeply commited compassionate hate as we have seen even on the streets of London. With screams promising terrible threats and more death and chaos to the sons of monkeys and pigs (all western populations and Christians and Jews).
Even promises to European countries of an “encore” and more of 911’s, London bombings, Madrid slaughterings, and whatever they didn’t mention due to their shortness of breath but by no means shortness of desires for destruction and bloodshed for the kafir pigs, unbelievers in the compassionate and merciful Allah. And this took place not in tora bora or Islamabad, or a lawless land of Allah, but in the capital city of the land of Richard heart of lion.

Frattini pulls back:
"There have never been, nor will there be any plans by the European Commission to have some sort of EU regulation, nor is there any legal basis for doing so."

I spit on every fool that tells me Islam is a "RoP..."
Sheik,
I know this is a serious subject but I hope you don't mind a bit of a humorous response. For some reason, I was reminded recently of a funny "Star Trek" episode called "A Piece of the Action." All the Trekkies out there will remember it as the episode in which the social organization of an entire planet is based on the structure of gangland Chicago during the Al Capone era. The chief boss is a tough-talking hoodlum named "Bela Oxmyx." Anyway, Mr. Spock is trying to get Oxmyx to cooperate with Captain Kirk's attempt to reform the society. Oxmyx replies to Spock: "The most cooperative man is the world is a dead man. And if you don't shut-up, you're going to be cooperating." When I thought about that bit of dialogue, I was reminded of the RoP bromide. The most peaceful man is the world is a dead man, and the Islamists are trying to make sure we are peaceful. Now, I understand everything.
Cheers

I have an idea for a new religion!
Its main tenet would be a complete ban on any pictures of EU-politicians!

So Fearless Frankie has backtracked on his previous statement,eh. Not surprising after receiving heaps of less than complimentary comments via cyber space. Why should the taxpayers of Europe be funding these no good, useless Bums who prance around in Designer Suits, spouting crap about how they are 'Defending
Freedom & Human Rights of E.U members?? Add Cherie Blair to the list-this Troll is using British Legal Aid Funds for her latest 'Defence' of Shabina Begum's right[backed by Hibz ut Tahir] to wear a tent- which is going to the Lords court soon.

I agree on one thing with the Muslims
"Zahny, originally from Egypt, says the recent republication of Danish newspaper cartoons depicting Muhammad, the messenger of Islam, as a terrorist is a sign of great disrespect for Muslims that's caused him pain. "There is no joke to be made about prophet Muhammad," he says."
No, his life and legacy certainly shows that he is no joke. He has brought untold misery to the world with his doctrines.
What I particularly object to is the phrase used by the Western media, "the Prophet Muhammad" as if his status is recognised by all. He may be an "Islamic prophet", but his record and life speak for themselves in regard to his alleged holiness.

Regarding the mohammed cartoon with the burning fuse:
When reviewing a less explosive piece of art, critics usually don't interpret it in a fundamentalistic way. Rather they try to unveil the hidden metaphors. Reviewing this portrait on the other hand, all media outlets have interpreted it as "Mohammed and his followers are terrorists". Instead they could have interpreted it as "Mohammed and his followers need a longer fuse" (Meaning they should count to ten before being outraged).
