The family of a young Muslim girl in India's southern state of Kerala say they are being shunned by the local mosque committee (mahallu) because she is practising Indian classical dance.VP Rubiya, 16, came first in Bharatnatyam, Kerala natanam and folk dance competitions at the recent Kerala School Festival....
Now she has an offer from the celebrated Indian dancer Mrinalini Sarabhai's dance academy, Darpana, her father Syed Alavikutty says.
'Outcasts'
The local mosque committee at Valluvambram, however, is not impressed by Rubiya's feats, says her father, a clerk with a travel agency.
"If she had won prizes in 'oppana' and 'mappila pattu' [traditional Muslim art forms], she would have been flooded with gifts by now. The mahallu leaders would never openly admit that it is her dance that makes them treat us as virtual outcasts," says Mr Alavikutty....
Rubiya is the darling of her teachers and friends at the Veeran Haji high school.
"God is one. When I pay ritualistic obeisance through mudras [hand signs], I am imploring not just the Hindu gods but the supreme creator, which we call by different names," she says.
It is the Hindu worship content in the classical dances that her family says has driven a chasm between her and conservative elements in the community.
KP Raihemath, a teacher who takes her to competitions, says there is nothing un-Islamic in Bharatnatyam dance....
Membership of a particular mosque committee for Muslim families depends on where they live.
"If you are not a mahallu member, the kazi [priest] will not bless your child's marriage. Worse, you are even denied a slot in the local cemetery," said Mr Alavikutty, who has also dabbled in acting with a troupe in Kerala....
But the family is not deterred by this.
"The parish doors might never open for us, but the world is not too small for the brave," he says.

Cool story - she will probably end up famous and go and live in the big city.
Part envy - part ignorance.
But the girl has a good attitude - she will probably go far.
There was a similar story in Bangladesh where they were giving the women micro loans. And because of strict Islamic laws, many men would not allow their wives to accept them.
But in one family - the wife accepted the micro loan and bought and raised some chickens. And because that was so successful, she was able to go back and get a second loan to buy her husband a rickshaw.
Other men in the village laughed at him - because his wife got the money for him. He asked himself how many of these people come and put food on his table.
The women are often given micro loans because they are more responsible than the men with the money - men tend to want to show off with the money, and not better the family. But this doesn't fit well with the Islam tradition.
A small but significant defeat over Islamic dogma!

What else can you expect from a group who fervently wish to reverse evolution and civilisation and turn us all into dark age subhumans who regard beheading as a norm?
Even the few decent Muslims are being trampled into line, Gestapo fashion. Maybe they should start thinking about "why?". I do feel sorry for decent human beings trapped by this barbaric sham , but decent Muslims have had 1550 years to make a difference and they have not.
I am still shocked by the article on Faith Freedom where an exMuslim admits to forcing Egyptian christaiun girls to convert to islam and being rewarded with 5000 Egyptian pounds for each one, thanks to Saudi Arabia.
I wont state what I feel should be done, but many others are starting to feel exactly the same way. I just hope that when it is done. finally and properly, it is not too late for western civilisation.

Performing graceful hand mudras apparently threatens as much as Mohammad cartoons - which elict the ONLY acceptable Muslim dance: Thousand Man Angry Arab Flag/Effigy Burning Decapitation in the Street Dance.
Those apostate Sufi's have a dance too .. one that both expresses and recreates the core dizzy making confusion of Islam.

Rumor has it among Muslims that you can catch some nasty social diseases from dancing. Worst would be: having fun, and apostacy.

Like I remarked then, young Rubaiya would probably be well off if she switched religions. Normally, I wouldn't suggest one, but since she is practicing Bharatnatyam anyway, and honoring Hindu gods (even if she imagines that they are the same as Mohammed's sock puppet), she might as well become a Hindu. Other than that, Kerela is the one state that has a significant Christian and Jewish population, so she has 3 options.
This pretty much tracks the discussion yesterday in another thread on J/W (Negative Perception Of Islam Increasing), where India's president Abdul Kalam was once described as a fake Muslim for preferring Hindu traditions to Muslim ones.
In one respect, the Qazis are right. There is no way any girl who practices such arts would end up hating infidels - a must in the wide wonderful world of Jihad.

Infidel Pride, if she changes her religion from Islam to whatever, she would be pushing up the daisies, singing with the choir invisible, (insert rest of the parrot sketch here) faster than you can say fatwa. She'd be doing her Bharatnatyam up in the great big stage in the sky.

Ms. Bakhle of Columbia, whose doctorate was on Indian music, and who for a while was spouting the nonsense about "postcolonial discourse" and signing the usual anti-Israel petitions that would please her Muslim colleagues, was rapidly transferred out of academic harm's way, by her husband Dean Dirks, once it was clear that attention to the scandal at Columbia's MEALAC was not going away, and might even hurt the chances of others -- say, Dirks himself -- of rising high in university administration. You never can tell nowadays.
Perhaps Professor Bakhle, she of the uninhibited tongue (see the student review of her speech in class) will see fit to incorporate this news item, revealing as it is about Muslim indifference or hostility to non-Muslim aspects of Indian culture, in her future classes. That might be a start, in recovering from the damage done to her by her earlier attempts to satisfy the army of Muslim apologists whom she, either out of belief or careerist considerations (either is unacceptable, but the careerist considerations can change as the wind shifts), chose to parrot.

The girl is lucky she and her family are being merely "shuned" by their Muslim community. Hopefuly it won't escalate to the usual murder and mayhem from the "Religion of Peace".
