Iran’s lawmakers urge crackdown on women in Summer

Sharia Alert from Iran Focus, with thanks to JE:

Tehran, Iran, Apr. 12 – Iran’s Majlis (Parliament) deputies called for a bill to be adopted to regulate women’s attire during the hot summer months, a state-run daily reported on Wednesday.

Gholam-Reza Mesbahi-Moghaddam, a hard-line deputy from Tehran called for the bill against “mal-veiling” during an open session of Majlis on Tuesday, the daily Sharq wrote.

The report said that each year young people tend to disobey the Islamic dress code more during the Summer months. This year, Majlis deputies were looking to adopt the bill against “mal-veiling”, the report added.

At the same time, Emaad Afroogh, head of the Majlis cultural commission, said that he was trying to table a bill to create a “national costume” to counter the effects of Western fashion in Iran.

Mohammad-Taghi Rahbar, a hard-line deputy from the central city of Isfahan, called for a “cultural revolution”.

“You cannot call the tiny cloths that girls put on their heads as hijabs. The stage must be adequately set to bring about a cultural revolution”, Rahbar said.

In August, Iran’s Justice Minister vowed that “improperly-veiled women” will be treated as if they had no Islamic veil at all.

“Being improperly veiled and not wearing a veil are no different. When it is clear from the appearance of a woman that she has violated the law, then the crime is obvious and law enforcement agents can take legal measures against her”, Jamal Karimi-Rad said.

“Crimes such as mal-veiling or other prohibited acts, which happen before the eyes of a law enforcement agent, are evident crimes and must be dealt with in accordance with the law”.

What would happen if they all refused to wear the veil? I know a worldwide No veil day was mooted last year but nothing seems to have come of it. Easy for me to say of course.

Patriot-

"oops wrong thread".

We you refering to the veil?

Or their "national costume"?

I would suggest that the Iranians take the classic Emmett Kelly clown suit as their national costume.

At least it would be psychologically honest.

seems some muslims women have more guts than Naseem, they are trying to cool themselves off in the summer..but then Naseem has enrotic thoughts for those western girls in the winter freezing their points off! lol

I would love to see those "useful idiots" over at Guardian write something about this. I was just reading an article there the other day about how we should suck Iran's 6@11$ because they've had great SPURTS of democracy and how they're sooooo powerful militarily speaking.
So I guess then this would be a democratic move to supress women's rights? I mean they are voting for it right, the men, right? What about the women, oh wait, they're just like cattle except for sex right? Silly me, see Iran has plenty of democracy, like honor killings, death for apostacy, rape, and coming soon, anyone wearing anything deemed as insufficient islamofeces attire (insufficient to whom again?) shall be dealt with "ACCORDINGLY"!! whew, for a moment there I thought this was some undemocractic loony bin, thanks for clearing this up Guardian.... ;-)

I just don't get the entire premise for the hijab, and having one's hair covered in the first place. It's hair. Everyone has it (well, not Kojak). It's an inanimate object other than being attached to one's head.

The amount of attention it's getting in Iran is further proof that it's much more a sign of subjugation under the pretext of modesty, than for modesty alone (next they'll claim to be promoting social equality through the elimination of the "bad hair day.").

The obsession with coverage-- especially of the head-- connotes an obsession with control. The mullahs see their control over society as varying directly with their control over women, right down to the ability to go up the wall over a stray lock of hair.

There is more to this than posters seem to realise:

1. It proves what crap muslim women talk when they claim that veiling is a wonderful thing that all muslim women like to do.

2. It is symptomatic of the growing unrest in Iran that could, if supported, lead to a second revolution. Young people who want a secular state and don't necessarily even want islam are the future of that country and need support and encouragement. And freedom from the mad mullahs!

The mullahs who rule Iran are the real criminals. A cultural revolution against these criminals will occurr when Iran's young people, most of the population finally have the courage to overthrow the religious dictators ruling their nation.

Christian, read this:

http://regimechangeiran.blogspot.com/2006/04/ahmadinejads-demons.html

I'm sure many Iranians want regime change, but I'm not so sure there are enough to make it happen. Islam does something to peoples' minds; it turns human beings into savage creatures that are human only in appearance.

Remember, the great "revolution" is a fairly recent event, hardly ancient history. There were certainly enough Iranians who supported that debacle and by God, they got exactly what they wanted, didn't they? It might be hard to imagine, but millions of Iranians consider their society to be utopia.
