Pakistan: Christian woman nailed with Muslim blasphemy charge for defending cross

More evidence of the moral crime that is Pakistan's blasphemy law. Islamic Tolerance Alert from Pakistan: "Christian woman nailed with Muslim blasphemy charge for defending cross," from Asia News, with thanks to Kaiser:

Kasur (AsiaNews/ANS) – A Christian woman is languishing in prison for defending the cross from desecration. Naseem Bibi is in solitary confinement, charged with having offended an image of the Kabah, the most sacred shrine of Islam in Saudi Arabia. On 7 April, judges refused to release her on bail. Meanwhile, her husband and their three sons have been forced to flee their home and to go into hiding out of fear of retaliation by Muslim extremists.

The woman’s family said she protested against a group of Muslims who were drawing a cross on top of a rubbish heap. The prison authorities have not allowed members of the Sharing Life Ministry Pakistan (SLMP), a Protestant organization, to visit the detainee. The SLMP has disseminated a statement by Gulzar Masih, the woman’s husband, narrating Naseem’s story.

Everything started on 3 March when many Muslims were protesting the blasphemous cartoons of Muhammad near Naseem’s house in Kasur. “They were raising slogans against the US president George W. Bush, abusing him and Christianity too,” said Gulzar. “Naseem saw the protesters draw a cross on top of a rubbish help and so she went out to protest the desecrating gesture.” The woman told the demonstrators they were violating a sacred symbol of Christianity while protesting about exactly the same offence against their own faith.

According to her husband’s account, Naseem was beaten and stripped. The group of Muslims then left only to return after a few hours with an image of the Kabah soiled with excrement. The men accused Naseem of blasphemy and the police, who came to the spot, took her away to the local police station. Gulzar admitted that he did not intervene to help his wife because he was afraid.

The SMLP said a blasphemy case has been opened against the woman and her husband has been unable to visit her after more than a month.

The so-called blasphemy law (article 295 b & c of the Pakistani penal code) carries life sentences for offences against the Koran and the death penalty or life imprisonment for defamatory actions against the prophet Muhammad. The Catholic Church and human rights groups have long been calling for a total abrogation of the law. So far, the government has only introduced weak amendments.

Will they do a DNA test on the excrement?
Probably not.

"A Christian woman... Naseem Bibi"

Maybe our own Naseem is really a woman after all. I thought this was a guy's name.

On a more serious note, do we (the US) offer amnesty to Christians in muslim nations? If we don't we should. Something like the policy we used to have with Soviet defectors. Are there organizations that help Christians get out of muslim nations? If so, where can I contribute?

"...few hours with an image of the Kabah soiled with excrement. The men accused Naseem of blasphemy..."

They got upset over that?! This is pretty close to idolatry.

Well, I'm just thankful that Pakistan is one of our friends, one of the good guys.

Everyone should pray for this wonderful woman ! She's a real hero !

I wonder if this will change after iran is out of the picture.

Posted by: daveconcerned [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 13, 2006 5:16 PM

This is what's SO irratating about muslims.

They can dish it out....but they sure can't take it.

Posted by: freewoman [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 13, 2006 5:24 PM

oops..that should be irritating.

Posted by: freewoman [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 13, 2006 5:25 PM

Islam; the Religion of Peace !

Posted by: Hugh De Payen [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 13, 2006 5:34 PM

Hugh De Payen....yes you should be praying for her, but you should also be contacting your local newspaper to run this story, your politicians, senator, and congressman. People for to long have looked for evidance against Islam and then when we see it we say "look there it is, let's pray". Don't stop at praying.

If I were on the front line in this battle, and I stood up to the enemy (praying is nice don't get me wrong)I would want to know that someone is protecting my backside and is coming to the rescue. Remember we are at war and we are leaving Christians all over the world on the front lines without any support. Reading a headline and then saying "oh, that's too bad" is not going to stop the enemy.

Please understand that I mean we must do more.

So, now it is:

Islam, Religion of Feces?

As another member of the Stone Age, Fred Flintstone, would put it:

Ka'aba dabba-doo doo.

What an incredibly brave woman, she represents the very courage that we all should admire in a person.

It is a pity the husband did not defend her, but under the circumstances he probably would have been killed.

it is obvious that the desecration of the Kabah soiled with excrement was a total fabrication intended to implicate the woman.

shameful ! absolutely shameful !

I would have died, they would have HAD to kill me.There is no way in hell i would just watch. What a sad man.

Ape said "Maybe our own Naseem is really a woman after all".... YES I AM! HOW MUCH MORE CONVINCING DO YOU NEED?

This is what's SO irratating about muslims.
They can dish it out....but they sure can't take it.

Freewoman, this is the 1st thing that I have to agree with you.

One of my friends moved from Lahore to Islamabad because her Ahmadiaship came to the fore.

She moved away in the dead of night..and nobody knows where she went...except me of course...she keeps in touch but discreetly.

But these peoples do not do Allah's SWT work. They will not be blessed by Allah SWT.

Poor Naseem Bibi....hope she survives !!

Posted by: Naseem [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 13, 2006 7:35 PM

ahmadiaship,what was she a row-boat captian?

Posted by: AmericanPatriot [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 13, 2006 7:38 PM

I'll pray for this woman and her family and her accusers so that God can show them the true way.

Yep, we have got to give help to Christians in moslem lands and help to get them out if they want to come. When I was at Uni I made friends with a Coptic man from Egypt who never went back and eventually got his family out.

He told me things about life there that are unbelievable. A couple of years before I went up my parents took me to Egypt to see the archeological remains and we were really impressed and had a great time but now that memory of a great holiday is tainted by guilt about what we didn't know and didn't bother to think about.

My Mum and Dad helped my friend to find a house for his family and they are as shocked by what they all told us as I am. We all now pray for the Copts in our intercessory prayers every morning. God will listen but now that we know we have to help because that is what Christ said.

Dominic.

In response to ecessitasnonhabetlegem aka Dominic, I know of two oragnizations that help persecuted Christians

In the UK : Barnabas Fund

http://www.barnabasfund.org/

In the USA (with international offices) : Voice of the Martyrs

http://www.persecution.com/

It kinda relates since helping those who are victims of jihad is a form of fighting jihad.

Here in Western, there are anti-christianism and few christians defend Christ and the church. And this woman, in anti-woman and anti-christian land like Pakistan defends Christ. She is better than me and many of us. I am ashamed. She is a truly christian.

Posted by: Franze [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 14, 2006 7:50 AM

Franze:

Sadly, I must agree with you. I too feel humbled by this woman's courage to confess her faith.

Posted by: Franze

Well, I wasn't ashamed until I read your post and realized I should be. I honestly don't know what I would have done if I saw something like that happening in my own country let alone Pakistan (also ignoring that I am a man).

Posted by: Mr Ape Pig [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 14, 2006 8:21 AM

God Bless this Christian woman and all Christians who are suffering with the suffering, dying, and risen Jesus. Amen

muslim "men" are the SCUM OF THE EARTH.

Posted by: Laura [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 14, 2006 12:37 PM

But shouldn't the moslem who defecated on the image of the Ka'ba and his accomplices be prosecuted for blasphemy as well? Or are the moslems the only ones who are allowed to use the Ka'ba as a toilet?

Just wondering.....

Thank-you non-redneck. I'll check these out and do whatever I can.

Dominic.

The news media should mention these stories so people will the danger we face if a similar blasphemmy law ever is implimented in America.

Posted by: Christian [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 15, 2006 6:40 PM

These Christians who are living in Muslims countries are persecuted so much, yet, they are so strong in their Christian faith, that we,the Western Christians should be ashamed of ourselves.
The are ready to giveup their lives for the sake of their faith. Mr. Abdul Rahman of Afghanisthan is just one example. The western Governments should get them all under the refugee system to our countries, instead of importing these unwanted terrorists, who, after enjoying our hospitality, will bomb and kill our own people.
