Bush: Jizya for Iran if Thug-In-Chief nixes nukes

Contradicting Rice. "Bush to talk incentives if Iran halts nuclear moves," from Reuters, with thanks to JE:

WASHINGTON, May 25 (Reuters) - President George W. Bush said on Thursday he would consider providing incentives to Iran if it agreed to abandon nuclear enrichment activities that the United States believes is aimed at producing a nuclear bomb.

Bush called a recent letter from Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad -- the first publicly announced official Tehran-Washington communication since the 1979 Islamic revolution -- "interesting."

But Bush, at a White House news conference with British Prime Minister Tony Blair, stressed that the Iranian leader "didn't address the issue of whether or not they're going to continue to press for a nuclear weapon. That's the issue at hand."...

Bush said he and Blair spent a lot of time discussing strategy on the nuclear crisis and how to persuade partners like Russia that the issue must be acted on by the U.N. Security Council if Iran remains defiant.

"The Iranians walked away from the table. They're the ones who made the decision, and the choice is theirs. If they would like to see an enhanced package, the first thing they've got to do is suspend their operations, for the good of the world," Bush said.

Meanwhile, "we've got to continue to work to convince them that we're serious, that if they want to be isolated from the world, we will work to ... achieve that," Bush said....

The package would offer Iran a light-water reactor, nuclear fuel from abroad, a regional security dialogue that includes the United States and other inducements if Iran abandons weapons-related activities, diplomats said.

Why do I have this feeling that thug-in-chief is going to get more intoxicated by this offer. The moron actually has the attention of the President of the U.S. of A. He is going to be more drunk and make some more of his 'declarations'. Launch a special kids' blow up squad maybe. Let us see.

What did we do to deserve such A-sole 'leadership?'

All the fools gold in the world will not stop the Mohammedans from wanting 'the bomb' in order to roast us.

This Bush had enough time to smell the coffee, somebody pleeeeeaaazzze find us a Churchill!

I think President Bush is just playing politics. He realizes there will be no deal but it looks good to make an offer to work things out peacefully. Let iran do all the threatening and we will use the old “speak softly and carry a big stick” approach.

Bulletin from the Pentagon
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Pentagon announced today the formation of a new 500-man elite fighting unit called the United States Redneck Special Forces.
These Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky,
Mississippi,Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas boys will be dropped off into Iraq and have been given only the following facts about terrorists:
1. The season opened today.
2. There is no limit.
3. They taste just like chicken.
4. They don't like beer, pickups, country
music or Jesus.
5. They are DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE for the
death of Dale Earnhardt.
The Pentagon expects the problem in Iraq to be over by Friday.
Of course, I loath Iran and Islam and I'm not head over heals for Bush but I don't see how this is Jizya. It's a carrot or stick proposition.
There's nothing terribly wrong in the principle of offering incentives to resolve a standoff like this. Of course, I'm not familiar enough if the technologies being offered will just lead to the same scenario sometime down the line.
And I don't expect Iran to come off their high horse in any case.
Any civilized society would make an attempt at a peaceful resolution. A prepared society would start to sharpen its swords just in case. Like it or not our military has more trained and experienced combat tested soldiers than we have had since Vietnam. We can continue to fight in afghanistan, iraq and still have enough left to stomp iran. Don’t buy into the solders are over stressed and stretched to thin, crap. I would rather this start now while we have troops already nearby than wait until we pull out and fight our way back in.
President Bush now says that he regrets telling the terrorists "to bring it on".
Tell me THAT won't have them cheering all over the islamic world.
President Bush now says that he regrets telling the terrorists "to bring it on".
Yes, we must eliminate all traces of having even a little testosterone in this feminized society. Laura disapproved so he must cow-tow. Sheesh!
Does Bush not grasp that Islam has been "bringing it on" since circa 630 A.D.?
Mealy mouths get kicked.
Apologizing to your attackers results in greater attacks.
Schmuck.
Iran needs nuclear power like the sun needs a heat lamp.
Something About Islam, Carolyn 2 & Profits Beard;
There is only one thing to say after President Scrub's reget about "bring it on."
To arms, to arms. The jihad is coming. The jihad is coming!
Ronin writes: "Let iran do all the threatening and we will use the old “speak softly and carry a big stick” approach."
The problem is, we're not carrying a big stick. And Iran knows this, which is why they are throwing their weight around. Here's the state of our stick: First, Bush has committed the flower of our army to staying in Iraq "till the job is done," whatever that means. If we attacked Iran, Hezbollah might retaliate against our interests in Iraq which would require us to keep troops there to stop a resurgent wave of Hezbollah attacks. Secondly, we may not know what targets to attack in Iran. Rep. Jane Harman admitted in public (which CNN of course transmitted right to Tehran) that our intelligence community doesn't know exactly what the state of Iranian nuclear capability is. We might never know if we had actually seriously crippled Iran's nuclear capability; the failed cruise missile attacks during the Clinton Administration come to mind here. Thirdly, the U.S. would have no international support for a pre-emptive strike on Tehran from any nation except Israel. Even Blair's wife might threaten to divorce him. Most likely Russia would introduce a resolution in the U.N. Security Council to demand the U.S. call off the attack. And finally, Bush has sunk so far in the public opinion polls that he couldn't get the Congress nor the American public to back such a move without lots of advance preparation and a big public relations campaign to sell the concept, which he is not doing.
I was shocked at W's regrets saying 'wanted, dead or alive.' 3000 killed Americans a few days before, a nation in shock, and his reference to the terrorists who did this was clear to me, and appropriate.
Is the goal of W to alienate the conservatives completely? Open borders with Mexico with increasing chaos, drugs and killing, no change with our ports, dhimmitude at Homeland Security . . . one could go on and on, and on and on. Remember that phrase in the 9/11 report: '911 reflected a failure of imagination.'
One can see W's support declining among his base, and this open borders stuff is just the cherry on top. So if his popularity declines to the low 20's, who is this important? Becuase his power will become impotent. Iran will seize the opportunity.
On another topic, I don't like how Murtha politicized the marines on trial, saying they were guilty while the trial was ongoing. Today, it's leaking out the marines acted badly and faced criminal responsibility. But, after reading the conditions of our boys over there, how there laughed at as they die, how they're murdered in the streets, how our leaders are craven wishful thinking Bush and Blair . . . freedom is on the march crowd: I would argue these poor marines have nobody to turn to but one another. Their military leaders no it's bogus, they are cast adrift by both their political leaders and 'Iraqi hosts,' so they only have their buddies to turn to. Do I condone wonton murder. Of course not, but I think these particular boys should be brought home, slapped on the wrist, and given a lifetime of psychiatric care(courtesy of Uncle Sam). I would argue that these marines are victims of a misguided policy and don't deserve the blame.
Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I didn't like W's assertion of the 'harm of Abu Ghrab' either. I think that's bs. You can agree or dissent from Hugh's point about getting out of Iraq. I agree, but that's besides the point. No one can argue(although some make feeble attempts)that we are there for a naive, misguided attempt to make a country right. Reform a religion. My point: it's not about the oil, it's about a misguided Wilsonian utopian vision of the power of democracy and a lack of knowledge of Islam. So we slapped around and humiliated a few 'proud Islam men.' So what. It's used as propaganda by the bastards, nothing more. Meanwhile those SOB Muslims muder each other, blow up each other's mosque's, but we evil crusaders are always to blame.
Personally, when asked about any regrets, I wish W and Blair had both taken out some cartoons about the Prophet M and said how they regretted not congratulating the cartoon makers about their funny art. I wish W had taken out that cartoon with the Turban on the Prophet with a fuse and would have joked about how he wished he could stick that fuse on Bin Laden's head. Then he could chuckle and say, 'Holy Shia.' Laugh, but had he done that his popularity would immediatly go from 29 to 50 percent.
I'll bet OBL will still be CEO of Murder Inc. when G.W. Bush is the former POTUS. Nuff abbreviations for ya? Senor Bush has had since 9/11 (longer than it took for the U.S. to finish off Hitler) to get things right. He has lost my confidence. I'll stand by and wait for leadership.
Bush is not conservative, that is for sure. He has never vetoed a spending bill, proposes all kinds of social programs, is incredibly soft on terror, thinks Islam is a great religion of peace, appoints incompetent people to high positions because of their gender or skin color, opens up the borders to illegals to make them full citizens, and the list goes on.
The only thing that makes him a conservative is his position on abortion. Big deal. I could care less. Indeed, Bush seems to be liberal on everything except abortion. This is not what America wants. This is not what they elected.
When they vote GOP they expect capital C conservatives, not some Texas Christian liberal. Which is what Bush is. A Christian social Liberal. I don't care what the religion is, a social liberal is bad news for this country.
America needs and wants General Patton, and it got Mr. Rogers, instead.
Muslims are not going to appreciate W regretting either Abu-Ghraib (learn to pronounce it, it's not English) or the "bring-it-on" comment; instead, they'll just use it as a vindication statement endorsing their vindictiveness. Anyway, given how increasingly inane the president has been acting these days, it's a wonder that he didn't regret the "Mission Accomplished" comment, when it was just a few months off (the capture of Saddam).
Why do I get this feeling that until 2009, nothing will be done about Iran, and after that, it'll be a full fledged war?
