"UN scraps contract with group chaired by Bali bomb cleric," from AFP, with thanks to Sr. Soph:
JAKARTA -The UN has cancelled a contract with an Indonesian organisation to deliver earthquake aid because it is chaired by the firebrand cleric jailed over bombings in Bali, a spokesman said on Thursday.World Food Programme spokesman Barry Came said that the agency had not realised that the Indonesian Mujahedin Council (MMI), an umbrella organisation that fights for sharia law, was chaired by the radical Abu Bakar Bashir.
The cleric, who is also the alleged head of regional extremist group Jemaah Islamiyah (JI), was freed from prison Wednesday after serving more than two years for his role in the 2002 Bali bombings which killed 202 people.
“They were a partner until last night. The contract was cancelled,” the spokesman told AFP. Asked why, he responded: ”Because when we signed the contract with them, it wasn’t realised, the connection to Abu Bakar Bashir.”
Came said that as part of their two-month contract, the WFP had given 95 tons of food to the MMI, which had distributed the aid to victims of an earthquake that hit central Java last month and killed 5,800 people...
MMI spokesman Fauzan al-Anshori said he had not been informed about the WFP’s decision but described it as “racist.”
“Is teacher Bashir a monster? He has nothing to do with terrorism. If the cancellation is based on MMI’s ties with Bashir and our religious beliefs, then it’s a very discriminatory and racist act,” he told AFP.
"Racist." Fauzan knows how to push the right buttons.

'...after serving more than two years for his role in the 2002 Bali bombings which killed 202 people.'
Did I read that right; two years for participating in the deaths of over 200 people?
What the....??

Vee: Yes, you did read that right and, naturally, he was let out early for good behaviour.
Otherwise, what with the Iraqi oil-for-food and sex-for-"UN aid workers"-in-exchange-for-relief scandals, UNRWA embarassments over transporting weapons and terrorists in "ambulances", etc., I guess someone in charge of the UN store figured it was time to play it a bit more cautiously.

I think it is somewhat rash to cheer “victory” because of this incident. The UN is a big organization and there could be some people out there with some common sense. But while that useful idiot Kofi Annan still in charge, this means practically nothing.

I would imagine that the 'Mujahedin'bit in this organisation's name, would have raised some eyebrows?

Kofi was incredulous when he learned of this:
'They told me it was the Indonesian Mousekiteer Council and their leader was named Mickey. I am stoned ... I mean stunned at this revelation.'

One should have no illusions as to which groups are getting aid and assistance from the corrupt UN in Indonesia:
All of them are Islamic, all of them differ little in ideology and the book they read is the Koran. Bashirs party has received money from the UN before, it is unlikely that the cash-flow stops...
Bucktooth Bashir is a demagogue who has a large following, he keeps a high profile which served him well, because political parties kowtow to him, secular Politicians are intimidated:
Politicians don't want to be seen opposing the "holiness, the divine cause" of jihad and Islamo-lunacy for fear of being assassinated. Islam, which is spreading like the blake, like cholera and the pocks in Indonesia, has turned Java and Aceh truly into an awful nightmare for residents and visitors alike.
The manic fanaticism of Islam in Indonesia can no longer be overlooked and shouldn't be.

The UN offered help and then took it away, of course there racists, why would anyone help a person of another race unless they were racists. That makes the KKK not racists because they don't help people of other races.

It's great to see the UN actually stand on principle once every three decades or so. This is encouraging.

"Kofi was incredulous when he learned of this ..."
That's diplomatically known as "Kofi with cream".

Good, keep pushing them. That way the politically correct crowd will get desensitized and wake-up to this nonsense.

Perhaps with Bolton at the UN's heels, they are having a little conscience, or just dont want to get caught. l say let them get their money from the Arab muslims. oh forgot.. Arab Muslims arre superior to any other muslims, seems to me non arab muslims are rather stupid to let the arabs stiff them for money from their big brothers.

I strongly suspect that the UN was fully aware, but the flap the US and AUS are making over Bashir being let out of jail at all combined with the sincere threats in the US House to withold aid from the UN - and we pay 22% of the base bills and a huge chunk of the emergency aid - has convinced them they need to cool it a bit.
Good for John Bolton.

We have a great opportunity to sway our Congress further against continuing to fund the UN, if you're so inclined. I hope citizens are writing their Congressmen politely expressing their frustrations with UN corruption and arrogance! Cordial and concise.
For Senators:

For Congressmen:
They DO listen to this stuff. They are also beginning to understand we're fed up with immigration, especially Muslim immigration. So separate emails to that effect are also a good idea. Email often. It's free.

In a 2004 prison interview with the LA Times, Bashir said "America's aim in attacking Iraq is to attack Islam, so it is justified for muslims to target America to defend themselves."
Target America how? One would presume largely through bombings.
He denies having had anything to do with the Bali bombings, of course. He then goes on to say, "The reason America wants me to stay in jail is because they are afraid of my preaching, not because of some bombing."
Let's see--America (and the west) is hypocritical in saying that they are concerned that his preaching led to the bombings in Bali, when they are actually concerned that his preaching will lead to--bombings?
Islamic (il)logic would be amusing if it wasn't so frightening.
