Satire that could land British artist in a Turkish jail

Imagine how many artists and comedians and others would be in prison today if this were the standard in free societies. A Let-Them-Into-the-EU Alert from the TimesOnline, with thanks to JE:

A BRITISH artist is facing up to three years’ jail in Turkey for exhibiting a collage that depicts its Prime Minister as a dog being awarded a rosette by President Bush in a pet show.

Police in Istanbul seized Michael Dickinson’s Best in Show — in which he superimposed the head of Recep Tayyip Erdogan on to a dog’s body — from his exhibition in the city.

He has been told that he is likely to be charged with “insulting the dignity of the Prime Minister”. The show’s organiser, Erkan Kara, will go on trial on September 12 on the same charge.

Mr Dickinson, 56, said: “It’s such an Alice in Wonderland feeling. The law is so absurd . . . This law exists in Turkey about insulting ‘Turkishness’ or the State. You’re not allowed to state your opinion.”

The case could greatly embarrass Turkey and Britain, for it raises questions about Turkey’s human rights record as it seeks EU membership, with Tony Blair’s backing.

Turkey must be where Tony Blair gets his ideas for new laws from. "Insult the prime minister (or islam) and go to jail; murder, rape and steal, get a slap on the wrist, oh unless it's aimed at muslims (but not christian, hindu etc.) then you go DOWN for nice long stretch.". Papa Blair, the "hero" of the "revolution".

This will raise questions about fuckall. Some British guy going to a Turkish prison is just a speedbump, nobody will notice. Multiculturalism must march on.

If they're sniffy about this satire, what would they make of criticism of the Armenian Genocide?

As one Muslim proverb says,

"A man's shame is between his navel and his knees; a woman's shame is from the top of her head to the tips of her toes."

Here is some art that is very rarely seen

But I must warn you that Fanatical muslims and people suffering from PC may find this offensive

This is not gruesome like many of my earlier posts But I will add this link will prove that muslims are hypocrites

I find it hard to sympathize with someone who voluntarily moves to live in an islamic country.

Islam is a cancer for which the only cure is cauterisation.

One assumes that the "artiste" in question was making fun of Erdogan from the left, as one more of Bush's poodles and presumably opposes the Iraq war for all the wrong reasons. Now he may be punished by those who, both he and they fail to recognize, are actually on his side.

Confusion compounded. And for observers, not without interest.

The artist is really meta-kidding, right?

He moves to Muslim Turkey and expects to gain freedom?

He mocks the Islamic leader of the land and thinks they will laugh?

When do Mohammedans ever laugh?

(Beheadings excluded, I mean.)

Turks would probably have enjoyed the insult to Bush if the head had been Tony Blair's ...as it probably was when the artist first borrowed this lame concept from the "Blair is Bush's lapdog" slogan -that has been limping around in England since 2003.

If the artist would answer this intolerant charge by saying:

"The head is actually NOT of the Prime Minister, your honor. I was really tring to visualize the "prophet" Mohammed. Maybe he looked like the PM. Maybe not. But this is how I see him. However, I'll leave that to Islamic scholars to decide. I rest my case."

Then, and only then, would I respect his currently-invertebrate "satire".

This guy is getting exactly what he deserves for doing a collage.

To the Muslim community worldwide, this is not the 7th century. Please GROW UP and get with the 21st century. Thank you.

He has been told that he is likely to be charged with “insulting the dignity of the Prime Minister”...

How can he insult something that does not exist?

"How can he insult something that does not exist?"
- Provoslavni

We must be able to insult things that do not exist - otherwise how can we insult Mohammed's "true revelations" or his "divine" alter ego Allah?

In fact, we're often accused of insulting the Muslim community's commitment to fighting terrorism - indeed of insulting the majority of Muslims who are committed to the safety and security of their infidel (i.e.: Sharia-free) nation-state . . .

. . . perhaps we insult things that do not exist more often than we know.

Yes, Profitsbeard, in the world according to all of the Garps out there, the US is a nasty, avaricious police state and "anti-globalization" Iran is just asserting its right as a nation to develop nuclear weapons because it's threatened by America's proxy Israel.
