UK: Mosque watchdog will vet clerics to tackle extremism

Fox Guarding the Henhouse Alert: "Mosque watchdog will vet clerics to tackle extremism," from GulfNews, with thanks to Sr. Soph:

London: An organisation that will vet imams and tackle extremism in mosques is being launched.

The independent Mosques and Imams National Advisory Board will accredit imams, monitor their teachings and ensure recruits are followers of mainstream Islamic thought.

It will also advise the government on the suitability of overseas preachers who want to enter Britain and help governing bodies counter infiltration by radicals.

The board is being set up by the Muslim Council of Britain, the British Muslim Foundation, the Muslim Association of Britain and the Al-Khoei Foundation.

Clerics will be expected to have good English and reject extremist views. The board will have no legal power to bar imams.

It hasn't been updated for many months, but here is a site that nevertheless contains useful information about just how "moderate" the Muslim Council of Britain really is.

Yawn, more Muslims game playing and deception for the cause. This "over-sight" of course is rubbish. There are no moderates and of course these clowns are moderate in the same way ISNA and CAIR are moderate and mainstream. Their idea of an appropriate Imam for Western contexts is a polished, photo-genic, smooth talker to sooth the dumb kufirs to sleep. This about p.r. nothing more and nothing less.It is about developing more " acceptable" Tariq Ramadan types and having fewer publicly embarrassing Abu Hamza types. It is not that Tariq Ramadan and Abu Hazma are really all that different except one can keep his mouth under control in public and at this moment that is what is required for the lesser Jihad. Sadly dolts like the Tony Blair and company will fall for it. La la la , life goes on, another day, same old b.s.

I believe them. I believe that they truly will make sure that Mosques teach mainstream Islam. It's also interesting that they use the term "recruit." Posted by: Jesus Christ Supercop [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 28, 2006 9:42 AM

Yes the use of the word recruits was very telling there...

"Clerics will be expected to have good English and reject extremist views."

So they will reject all the hate verses of the koran?

How about vetting the Quran? The Hadith. The Sira. The Tafseer.

Great Idea, we in America are starting a similar organization, it will be made up of black panthers, KKK members, one representative from religious cults (including islam) and will be called the Holy Institute of Peace and Equality (HIPE). It will be dedicated to all good causes and human rights, as seen by the members and the enforcement of those same rights on non members.

The new U.K. accrediting council will also be certifying neo-Nazi sonderkommandos to march down approved streets on alternate weekends.

But the board will have no power to bar obersturmfuhrers.

Taping of every khutba would be a start. Ataturk created a government department to monitor (possibly even to compose) the khutbas that the government would allow to be delivered.

But how does one determine if someone is preaching in a non-extremist manner? The idea is so Soviet. Unfortunately, all it will do is cause the teachings to go underground. However, there is no other choice for the government.

"The board will have no legal power to bar imams."

Thats like putting the National guard on the border with orders not to find or stop illegals from entering the country. Smoke and mirrors.

A favorite English saying for something like this is: What a load of cod's-wallop!

The good old Qur'an says that moderate Muslims are hated by Allah. Only the ones actively engaged in Jihad are acceptable in Allah's Paradise.

So, are these clerics risking the ire of Allah, or are they doing the old Islamic two-step, known as double-speak, or in the modern vernacular, lying through their teeth as usual?
