Fitzgerald: Follow the money trail

Alistair Crooke is the British agent who not only dealt with Hamas, but became a great Hamas supporter and booster. Google his name. He is now a "consultant" offering his services to the highest bidders -- no doubt many from the Jazirat al-arab neck of the woods, in London.

He should be investigated. He should be charged. With what? I think with promoting the interests of terrorists, the interests of Hamas. Could a retired British intelligence agent be convicted, if he was only doing what he would argue is "in the best interests of Great Britain, rightly understood"? There were all kinds of people in Great Britain who had their own notions of what was "in the best interests of Great Britain, rightly understood." There was the Cliveden Set. There was Oswald Moseley. There was even a British intelligence agent named Kim Philby, Communist son of the Muslim father St. John Philby. No doubt he too, Kim Philby, thought that he knew what was not only "in the best interests of Great Britain" but also for the entire , benighted, capitalist world. Remember him?

If such a man were to be charged -- what would be the charge? do English laws now punish those who lend support or legitimacy or plausibility to terrorist groups? -- and could be convicted for aiding and abetting terrorist groups, it would do good. He and a whole bunch of people who have been toiling in those same vineyards for many decades, recycling those "petrodollars," writing articles and signing petitions and "advising" the British government on how best to appease the Arabs, the PLO, the Palestinian Authority, and of course Saudi Arabia – should all be investigated, their "clients" disclosed, the sources of all their funding, direct and indirect (indirect being businesses instructed by, say, the Saudis, to hire them as "consultants" on how to win contracts, or conduct business, up and down the Gulf).

Even if you do not comprehend what this has done to Israel's position, or do not care one whit, you might ask yourself what the misunderstanding of the war against Israel -- a Lesser Jihad -- aided by such people, which in turns helps to delay the day of recognition of what Islam is all about, has done to Great Britain and to Western Europe.

And had the Alistair Crookes of this world been exposed for what they are, long ago, that might have made it easier for the government and people of Great Britain to realize what would be the inevitable result of Muslim immigration into their midst -- as the peoples of Western Europe have all been discovering, to their great confusion, and mental and moral desarroi.

The Alistair Crookes and the Foreign Office Arabists include those who are simply venal, those who suffer undully from those two pre-existing mental conditions (anti-Americanism and antisemitism) that make them security risks in a time of war of self-defense against the Greater Jihad (which is simply the sum of all the Lesser Jihads, conducted both against remaining non-Muslims in Muslim lands, and against Infidels in lands not yet subjugated by Islam), and those who think the Arabs are fine fellows (Laurentian nonsense never dies, and neither Richard Aldington nor Elie Kedourie have been sufficiently attended to, their dry facts and conclusions about that motorcycle-ridiing mythomane assimilated) in the manner of John Bagot Glubb (Glubb Pasha) and Alec Kirkbride. They have never come to grips with how that romantic noble-bedouin-and-vastness-of-the-Arabian-sky stuff is actually preventing an intelligent defense of one's own, far superior culture. For god's sake, Charles Johnston, the former British Ambassador to Jordan, married to Tatiana Bagration -- even he, were he alive, would sense the threat to European civilization. And of course to the high poetry of Pushkin, whom he translated, he would have abandoned any of what might have remained of a pro-Arab bias based on that highly unrepresentative man, the "plucky little king" Hussein of Jordan.

This pro-Arab stuff has to stop. England, and the entire West, and the entire Infidel world, is being threatened. The usual crew of admirers of the Arabs, of Western hirelings of the Arabs, overlapping with or supplemented by the irreducible proportion of the English ruling class that reflects a kind of acceptable antisemitism that is completely unacceptable, had either get with the program, or be driven from power – in just the same way as in 1939-41, those who had formerly been apologists for Nazi Germany, those who had been in any way associated with the Cliveden Set or Moseley, were disgraced and driven out.

Start with that "consultant" Alistair Crooke. Why has he not been charged? Why has he not been the subject of investigative journalists? Who are his clients? Who gives him money? With whom does he associate? And what about all those others, those whom you can find by googling "Jihad Watch" and "financial dhimmitude"? All over the capitals of the West, those who are hirelings of Arabs and Muslims, now and in the past, need to be investigated and exposed, for one good reason.

And that reason is: the money will not stop. OPEC Arab and Muslim countries have, since 1973, taken in 10 trillion dollars. It is the largest transfer of wealth in human history. Hundreds of billions of that has gone into spreading Islam, into the various instruments of Jihad. The Arabs are not stupid. They support magazines sent free to libraries (see Andrew Kilgore). They support phony organizations whose very names are intended to wrap themselves in the local flag: see Eugene Bird, and the Council for the National Interest. They acquire public-relations advisers: see Fred Dutton, former Kennedy apparatchik, who was the first to sign up, decades ago, with the Saudis. See Orvis Communications. See, see, see.

Find out who has been paying for those glossy full-page ads, the one that recently appeared in The New Duranty Times. Write stories about that funding. See what Arab money has been doing, because it is going to continue to do it in the future.

Don't give a damn, you say, about Israel or about France or Italy, England or Spain, Germany or Denmark, Sweden or Norway, or for that matter India or Thailand or the Philippines or Singapore? Don't care?

Well, then, do you care about a sensible energy policy to head off possibly permanent, irreversible environmental damage? Does that concern you? Because if it does, remember that the same paid or volunteer agents of the Arabs, of the rich Arabs, whose wealth comes from fossil fuels, will also work to prevent measures being taken to diminish the reliance on such fuels. It has been happening all along. Why do you think there has never been a serious energy tax in this country, a tax on gasoline, a tax on the use of oil? Is it really just "Big Oil" or is it the Saudi lobby?

Start turning over some rocks. Lest we get to a point where we really do turn out to be "kuffar" -- ungrateful ones. Ungrateful to those who created and left us our civilizational legacy. And ungrateful to whatever it was (as prayers are uttered by some To Whom It May Concern) that left us this, our giddy, lovable, vulnerable globe.

All I can say is "hear, hear." Well said, Hugh.

But for that to happen, we need people out in the public sphere to start talking up the truth of the Islamic threat. But will Europeans, Americans, Indians and all the Infidels threathened by Jihad wake up before it's too late? We can expect anyone who tries to raise the alarm to be ripped by the PC idiocracy and it's willing acomplices in the media. The investigative media is more likely to try to expose sites like JihadWatch as hotbeds of intolerance than investigate Islam.

I believe it's going to take a groundswell of public opinion, an awareness from the ground up. Ordinary people demanding politicians wise up and do something. But even that looks a long way off.

The front right now is JihadWatch, Western Resistance and other such sites promoting "Jihad Awareness". And people like us who are aware continuing to spread the word. Complacency in not an option.

Crooke cannot be charged with anything. Not while parts of the government are doing basically the same things, anyway.

Off topic but I saw Richard Aldington's name up there and was reminded of his book "Death of a hero". Anyone with an interest in WW1 should jump at the chance to read it - though it ain't at all easy to find these days.

I mentioned Aldington because he wrote the great myth-destroying book, based for the first time on the military and diplomatic and other records and not on gush and Lowell-Thomasian handouts (all kinds of people fell for Lawrence in the 1920s and 1930s, for reasons having more to do with the psychic aftermath of the Great War).

Elie Kedourie came along and in his dry way, having read all the diplomatic records, finished whatever Aldington had left undone. There is nothing of T. E. Lawrence left. By the way, though the Arabs like to invoke that "Arab Revolt" (a few hundred horsemen, who did a little harrying of the Hejaz Railway, their numbers estimated by Abdullah later as "100,000 men," that is merely a classic example of what the British used to call, unembarrassedly, the "vivid Oriental imagination."). Of course, there is also the whole business of the "Arabs" taking Damascus; it never happened. The British and Australians defeated the Turks and Germans, and allowed the Arab troops to pretend to have taken part (akin to what the Americans did with the Saudis during the Gulf War). And then they made the mistake, the Allies, of handing over captured Turks and especially Germans to the Arabs, who proceeded to kill many of them).

The myth of Lawrence remains, thanks to David Lean and all those picturesque desert dunes. If that's the kind of history you like, Made in Hollywood -- and so many do nowadays -- of course sitting down and reading Aldington and Kedourie, and the British accounts of what the Arabs actually accomplished (almost nothing) against the Turks, seems such a silly waste of time. Why, you could right now, instead of reading that book, be going to the movies. Or even better, turning on television.

What's keeping you, you old fogey? Get with the program. Get with all the progams, on any one of 832 conceivable channels.

"Crooke was an officer in MI-6, the British intelligence agency, and filled mediation roles in the British Embassy in Ireland where he forged contacts with heads of the IRA that subsequently led to the Good Friday agreement."
- from haaretz.com

As I thought - the Blair government is trying to deal with Muslim terrorists in the same way as they dealt with the IRA - naive fools.

Another excellent, excellent article.

in just the same way as in 1939-41, those who had formerly been apologists for Nazi Germany, those who had been in any way associated with the Cliveden Set or Moseley, were disgraced and driven out.

But who would do the driving out today? In pre-WWII, or at least pre-U.S.-involvement-in-WWII, FDR and Churchill were in personal communication, trying to figure out how to bring the anti-involvement U.S. population to support their European Allies.

Today it's 180-degrees of difference. We have a groundswell of popular opinion (see reaction to Dubai ports deal) trying to figure out how to bring the political leaders to stop coddling/supporting the jihad. And it is only popular opinion. There is no money, no political power, to be gained from fighting the oil-besotted jihad. There is everything to be gained by joining it, and so join it they do, from all political parties. Corporations, including media corporations, are all about making money, not about doing the morally-correct thing. As Hugh says, follow the money, and unfortunately that trail leads straight to the Arabian Peninsula and the jihad, not to Undisclosedville and the anti-jihad.

This has got to change.

"Laurentian nonsense never dies..."

That's what happens when David Lean makes a movie about you. Also what happens when Omar Sharif and Alec Guinness are put forth as the archetypal arab muslim. What's not to love? Sharif looks like Thomas Jefferson in training, Guinness looks like, well, Obi Wan Kenobi--one of those garden-variety enlightened orientals, neo-gnostics dribbling out pearls of ancient tribal wisdom that we in the west have long obscured with our rationalism and technology and our peasant religions.

If only the romantics would stick to verse.

I am not sure Cardinal Sodano is speaking for Pope Benedict. He was one of the liberals who was in line to become pope after the death of John Paul II. On June 22, 2006 Pope Benedict accepted his resignation as Vatican Secretary of State, but he will remain in office until September. Perhaps it was accepted because of an attempt to clean house. I believe it was primarily Cardinal Sodano who was responsible for the anti-Israel and anti-American comments coming out of the Vatican.

Hugh,

Please sir, may I have some more?

This post was a public service. Perhaps you could do another (or a series, in your free time;-)) on well known former US government officials involved in the same sort of relationships with the Saudis, etc.

Unfortunately, I don't believe that it's likely that the necessary evidence could ever be collected to prosecute such conduct. Nevertheless, a Congressional Committee or Special Prosecutor could serve subpoenas for bank records, compel testimony under oath and issue a report. The issue would then be squarely before the American public.

Andre --

I feared I had driven you off with a prior posting, full of allusions to General Miller, and Krasnij Orkestr, and other Jan Valtinish "Out of the Night" stuff from the entre-deux-guerres period, just to test the copyright on all that material, so recently renewed by Alan Furst. But I see I didn't.

Any particular names in mind?

Hugh asked us to google his name, this agent. Well I googled "crook", and let me say now, overwhelmingly, only bad things came up.

Tell me about it.  That's been one of my salient points since my third blog post.

The problem we have in the USA is that all our major financial and industrial interests are tied to the oil and coal lobbies, the former being pushed heavily by the Saudis.  Breaking free of them... that is going to be very hard, albeit essential if we're going to have a future.

While oil had no value, the Arabian peninsula was a desert travelled by savages.  We give value to oil; we need to take it away.

I am disapointed that you slander the name of Sir Oswald Mosely. He was a patriot and monarchist who, if he was prime minister today, would be cleaning out Bradford and London of the jihadis and the sea they swim in. England would again be that green and pleasant land. But, no, we now have dhimminis like Blair and the rest of the political establishment ruining England, Wales, and Scotland. Just for the record as well, Sir Oswald was not a German agent, but volunteered to serve once the war commenced, instead he was interned. Such horrible treatment of a hero of the Great War.

During WW1, Germans and Austrians served the Ottoman Empire for the sake of their govts. Nevertheless, after the war, many of them were massacred by Syrians, as Pierre van Paassen transmitted a report by survivors in Days of Our Years. Here, dhimmis who helped a jihad were massacred when no longer useful. On the other hand, Turks were massacred too. Go figure. Everything was kind and peaceful and sweet in the Middle East before Israel's rise.

alistair crooke first worked for the UK govt, then moved over to the EU. This attests to the EU's reliability, among other evidence.
