MOGADISHU, Somalia Jul 19, 2006 (AP)— Islamic militiamen who rule Somalia's capital arrested about 60 people for watching videos in several overnight raids in the capital, an Islamic court official and residents said Wednesday.The roundup was the latest move by the militiamen to forcefully apply their strict interpretation of Islamic law, a practice that has stoked concerns that they want to remake Somalia after Afghanistan under the Taliban including offering a haven to terrorists.
Those arrested "will be rehabilitated and then we will release them after they are told the disadvantages of watching such films and what Islam says about watching such films," said Moalin Shire, an official of the Islamic court whose jurisdiction includes one video hall that was raided.

It’s frightening to think what the future could be like if this sort of thing gained any footing in the modern societies of today’s world. Would British citizens bow down and allow theaters to close up permanently? Would the Louvre in France be shut down for having human depictions within it? Would Hollywood become extinct like the dinosaur?
Just imagine trying to explain that reversal in achievements and advancements to a younger generation. Imagine an alien race finding this burnt-out shell of a planet (because if the Muslims take it all over, they’ll likely destroy the whole place and leave not much left behind …like the Gaza Strip, for instance) ages from now someone picking through the rubble of our modern cities, finding great cinematic wonders, and wondering why it was suddenly stopped.

They even killed ice vendors because ice wasn't available in Muhammad's time. Yet how often do we hear muslims tell us that the Qur'an encourages knowledge and progress! Not to mention the fact that modern Western technology is perfectly acceptable to muslims if it helps promote the jihad and warfare, like the internet, television and radio, videos, and weapons. Muhammad didn't have Soviet-made guns, Iranian-made rockets, or any of today's high-tech weaponry, but today's jihadists don't hesitate to use them against infidels. Muslims are the ultimate hypocrites. Their duplicity is so blatant that it is almost laughable, but their assault on civilization is not funny.

The much-ballyhooed "security" that all these islamic militias claim to be able to provide comes at a high price. Everybody gets to stay home and sit around because it's too dangerous to leave the house and everything they wanted to leave their house to do is now haram.

When the Taliban ruled Afghanistan, such abuses received more coverage in the media than the current abuses of the Islamic Courts Union in Somalia. Could somebody please tell me why Somalia is receiving such little news coverage today?
