Sharia Alert, and another Islamic Tolerance Alert, from Compass Direct: "Indonesia - Angry Mob Attacks Church in Aceh"
September 8 (Compass Direct News) - A pastor and his wife living in Aceh province, Indonesia, have gone into hiding after a Muslim mob set fire to a church building following a revival service on September 1.
Several weeks ago, Pastor Luther Saragih of a congregation called Siompin, an Indonesia Evangelical Mission Church, distributed letters to several villages in Aceh Singkil inviting Christians to a revival service.
A Muslim resident somehow received a copy of the letter and edited it, making it appear that Muslims were invited to the service. He then distributed his own version of the letter to 3,000 Muslims. According to one local source, the police knew this was happening but made no attempt to restrain this man.
Large Christian gatherings are extremely rare in Aceh, but at this service over 500 Christians arrived to take part - along with a large crowd of irate Muslims.
The police were also present. Local Muslim leaders argued for several minutes with police, and eventually Saragih was taken to the police station. There the police scolded the 40-year-old pastor for organizing the event and ordered him to cancel it and send people home.
A pastor from Jakarta asked for 10 minutes to explain the situation to the Christians who had gathered. When the police relented, he returned to the church and spent 10 minutes preaching a brief message on "walking in the shadow of death" to those who had gathered before sending them away.
At about 7 p.m., when everyone else had left, Saragih and his wife Netty, pregnant with their first child, returned to their own home just a few minutes down the road from the church.
At 10 p.m. that night, a convoy of two trucks and 50 motorcycles arrived outside the church, carrying over 100 liters of gasoline. Witnesses said there were over 100 men present, many of them carrying swords. The mob poured gasoline over the building and set fire to it; they also attempted to burn a second building that was used as a church kindergarten.
Some of the attackers came looking for Saragih and Netty at their home, which is nearby. The couple escaped into the nearby jungle and stayed hidden in the undergrowth. Many thought the couple had been consumed in the flames of the church buildings, but a friend found them at around 4 a.m.
Christians in a neighboring province have provided shelter for Saragih and his wife, following reports that local police and Muslim leaders are still searching for the couple. It is uncertain when - or if - they will be free to return home.

The province of Aceh is unique in two ways: the government has granted limited autonomy to the province following years of civil war, and sharia (Islamic law) replaced state law earlier this year, leaving the Christian minority at a distinct disadvantage.

Just a suggestion, but I save such articles in a Word format (or other text). I find in many cases the link is eventually broken and an excellent reference lost. It's useful to keep so you can rebut the RoP types. Paste the URL into the bottom of the article in case the link is still active.

Why aren't Chrisians burning mosques and rioting when muslims force Christians to convert to islam at gunpoint? Oh right, Jesus said "turn the other cheek" and "forgive one another". If the muslims revere Jesus as a prophet then why don't they do what He said?

Did this event actually happen??? From a story earlier in the week, I thought that Indonesia was full of moderate Muslims, at least according to one writer.

Going to the Compass Direct site to read the whole article, I was surprised to find that the vast majority of the articles were about Christians in India being persecuted by Hindus- beaten or killed, churches burnt, the sort of thing one associates with the 'religion of peace'.
So what is going on in India? Hindus are a majority in India, and they are attacking Christians, with possible complicity of the police and authorities. I havnt heard of Christians bombing Bombay or Delhi. Are Hindus being persecuted in the West? What gives.
I was under the impression that India is on our side in this war, or at the least we wouild like to be.
I was taken aback by the Compass Direct articles. One normally associates this behaviour with Muslims but not with the 'peacable' Hindus.

Aceh, that part of Indonesia which is the most radical fundamentalist of all, where Osama T shirts are the best seller, where "Europeans" go for "vacations", where Bill Clinton and George H.W. Bush joined hands begging money for "Tsunami relief".
DP111, there is a Hindu Nationalist Revival in India, which has a counterpart in America (the Christian Coalition).. Religions worldwide are going nuts, they can't accomodate change, technology, a shrinking world, free thought, free speech, free will, people making their own choices and questioning.
Anyway the Indian counterpart to the Christian Reconstructionist (Dominionist) movement and to Islam is the , don't confuse Hindu's with Buddhists, and don't forget that the Japanese are Buddhist. Those Samurai wielding officers, and banzai charging soldiers were buddhists.

Evil me - I felt "free to protest via the pocketbook" during prior natural disasters in Aceh, Pakistan, Iran, etc. I'm a firm believer in charity beginning at home, and I dspense what help I can to people in need that I actually know. Allah (and Jimmy Carter) can help those I don't know.

Whoa. The revival of Christian fundamentalism in America was impelled by the legalization of unborn baby killing (the "right" to abortion) under a deliberate misrepresentation of the US Constitution, not hatred of Hindus.
The revival of Hindu Nationalism is in response to the Moslem murder of 70 million or more of their men, women, children, and elderly, and the subjugation of their current day federal and provincial governments, universities, and media.
Over the past 1,000 years or so, how many Hindus were murdered by Christian evangelicals? 20? 30? 100? Not very close to 70 million innocent souls.
The Hindu Nationalists are attacking the Christian evangelicals because they're fearful of directly attacking the Moslems.
Do that, and your little sister could be raped, enslaved, or murdered in accordance with the 6th Pillar of Islam.
As in the USA, the Hindus are shaming themselves with their cowardice on being man enough to step up to the battle the bad men who brought to them.
The use of scapegoats always results in being the goat (or the Dhimmi, which is a form of human goat).
