No mention is made of any offense connected to this building, other than its being a church. Islamic Tolerance Alert from UPI: "Muslim mob kept from destroying church"
JAKARTA, Sept. 24 (UPI) -- Police in Indonesia prevented Muslim extremists from demolishing a building they claimed was a Christian house of worship.
Police told the mob of 50 people in a hamlet 10 miles south of the West Java capital of Bandung that no group was allowed to shut any house of worship.
The mob dispersed but its members insisted they would return if the church continued its activities, The Jakarta Post reported.
Dozens of churches and other places of worship in the province have been forcibly closed by alleged Muslim extremists.
Apparently authorities aren't ruling out a possible band of irate Unitarians.
The Saturday incident in the world's most populous Muslim nation took place a day before many Muslims began observing the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

OT, but CNN is now reporting that after meeting with islamic leaders to repair the damage, the Pope has announced he has "total and profound respect for all muslims".
We all hoped that this pope would stand up to Islam, but instead it looks as if he was just testing the waters. The waters were cold, so he took his toe out.

Robert, that's no fair- making fun of Unitarians. I'll bet you're only doing that because you know that we won't raise as much as a coffee cup against you.
No Unitarian ever called a Jihad, issued a Fatwa, whatever. Why pick on us?
Actually, in the annotated copy of the Koran I was given 25 years ago by a family member marrying into the religion, I was intrigued to find a footnote informing the reader that Islam and Unitarianism shared many of the same values. Didn't phase me then, as I hadn't a clue as to the full scope of Islam. If I ever find that book again, I'll write to the publisher, explicating the error and demanding a retraction.
Anyway, I am sorry to see that the faith in which I was raised is now, like so many others, sowing the seeds of its own destruction.

That report is not complete, it fails to mention that the church is illegal, under Indonesian law, it is not registered. Of course the main reason for attempting to close it is bigotry, but the fact that the church is illegal gives them an excuse to act. A more complete report of it here.

Not to worry; the mob was only "alleged" to consist of Muslim extremists. It was probably just a misunderstanding...

While I cannot admire Islam, and think that Islamicist radicalism is a serious threat (one reason why I often come here), I cannot help but suppose that at least a few of the Indonesian cops who made the mob leave the church alone were Muslims.
If the Muslims de-escalate, so will I.

All Christians need to pack up and leave these dungheap countries and fast. Let the idiots religiously cleanse their filthy hellholes so they can sink even lower than third world status.

Yardbird -
That was my posting.
No offense intended: The fact that Unitarians are so well-known for their tolerance and open-mindedness is, actually the basis of what I meant as a joke at the expense of the "alleged Muslim extremists" (that wording seemed odd in context) mentioned in the article.

All mosques in the US and Europe should be declared illegal.

Personally, I think it was the Methodist International Liberation Front.
