If you read the article, you'll note:

"Furious prison officers have called for Governor Claudia Sturt to be suspended over the scandal. One warder, who did not want to be named, said: “It beggars belief. We are creating terrorist cells in prison by fuelling their hatred. They are hell bent on creating holy war.”"

As usual, it's stupidity at the top.

Note, too:

Not a single copy of Mill's "On Liberty" to be made available? Not a copy of Locke's "Essay on Human Understanding"? Not the "Essays, Moral and Political" of Hume? Not the Declaration of the Rights of Man or the American Constitution? Not William James on "The Variety of Religious Experience"?

Not even an inexpensive, mass-produced anthology of what the most acute thinkers and statesmen in the Western world have had to say, about Islam --everyone from Spinoza to John Quincy Adams and Tocqueville in the 19th century, to Winston Churchill and Bertrand Russell and Jacques Ellul in the 20th? (Well, Churchill's River War comments actually were made in the late 19th, but who's counting?).

None of that? Just coals to Newcastle, more Jihad texts to those participating actively in Jihad?

Why? Is there no sense that just possibly, in the privacy of prison, one or two or more of these people might actually exhibit some curiosity about the non-Islamic world, the world to which they have been condemned, and wish, if only the could, to condemn all the rest of us as well?

No conceivable notion of offering other intellectual possibilities to those who just might be capable of making sense of it, and thereby, at some point, coming to their senses?

Not quite the same story but just after 9/11 a prison officer threw a heavy bunch of keys in a tray. Someone said, "Watch out you'll break it!" To which the officer replied "Its all right there's a picture of Osama Bin Laden on the bottom."

He was suspended for making a racist statement! The case took a year or so and the Authorities said the punishment was excessive, the Deputy Governor was just trying to parade his anti-racist credentials. The man should have just been sent on a "Racial awareness course".

Still the officer was retired and the Deputy Governor who suspended him was promoted.

"Terror Books"?; my my, it seems 'terror' is the nouveau of our times, non? Calm down people. Let's do away with the hypocrisy, shall we? Homosexuality is an abomination in *all* the major religions; and for good reason too. You and I wouldn't be here if it were 'standard practice' by all homo sapiens. ;) So, it's an evolutionary dead end. And a promise of reward for dying in God's cause is a noble and just motivator for any human being. It just depends what exactly is 'God's Cause', and therein lies the problem. Jihad is not an easy issue, and even among Islamic scholars there is debate and lack of consensus in contemporary issues regarding this matter; so it's not a foregone conclusion.
Oh, and BTW, Ynkedoodl2, before you go about spewing hate and bigotry about the fastest-growing religion on the planet, get a clue, alright?

The fasting-growing religion on the planet is the religion (or non-religion), of those born into Islam who are leaving it.

The fastest-growing religion in the conventional sense is Christianity, for in China especially, it is Christianity, and not Islam, that appeals to some of the inheritors of a complicated, sophisticated, superior civliization. Islam holds no such appeal; it has been spread by force, and when not spread by force, appeals in the Lands of the Infidels to the psychically or economically marginal, finding solace in the Total Regulation of Life, the Complete Explanation of the Universe, the collective or umma, and the legitimization of a sense of grievance against the circumambient society. That is what constitutes the thin gruel of its appeal, to those who by definition are looking for something to explain and justify and soothe their own inability to cope.

It only illustrates a fetid, and dark stench within your innerself, and the only way that you can express this inner torment is by baseless accusation of a religion which needs no force to convince the thousands and thousands of reverts of its greatness and truth. WASHINGTON - Mail for convicted terrorists and other dangerous federal inmates isn't being fully read by prison authorities, and that is a risk to national security, a Justice Department review concluded Tuesday.
The U.S. Bureau of Prisons is supposed to translate and screen all mail to and from the highest-risk inmates — including terrorists, gang members and spies — for evidence of criminal activity. But that target was not being met consistently at 10 federal prisons and detention centers surveyed by the Justice Department's inspector general.

"The threat remains that terrorist and other high-risk inmates can use mail and verbal communications to conduct terrorist or criminal activities while incarcerated," concluded the report by Inspector General Glenn A. Fine. It urged the Bureau of Prisons to correct quickly the security gap, including putting tracking systems in place to ensure all high-risk inmate mail is read and analyzed

I might not speak the language in which koran is written. You can say that I don't understand the koran. But I can, and do understand the actions of muslims and I have read history. The destruction of Persia was so absolute that few records remain of the Persian Civilization. The destruction of the Indus Valley Civilization in the North West part of India (now called as afghanistan) also mirrors Persia. Scholars till now are arguing about the number of Hindu casualties during islamic aggression. Some take the conservative count of 60-70 million. I go with the figure of 600 million. Some scholars put the numbers of temples that were destroyed in India at 10,000, but they forget that Kannauj, the city of temples, had 10,000 temples, all of which were destroyed by muslims. It took them two months to do it, but they did it. Let us talk of recent history. In 1947, when the British were leaving India, muslims living here asked for a state of their own ; this demand was accompanied by bloodshed of Hindus in Punjab and Bengal. To appease them, and to stop the bloodletting, Hindu leaders agreed to give them pakistan and bangladesh. This gesture of appeasement did not stop the bloodshed, only compounded it. The most conservative estimate of Hindu body count is one million, in two months. And the million were not killed by any army, or any organized force. They were butchered with knives, axes and swords by their muslim neighbours who were living and working and trading with them. Every single muslim became a killer in July-August 1947. Let us talk about even more recent happenings. Kashmir is the only state in India where the muslims are a majority, and guess who is asking for independence ? Since 1989, 65,000 Hindus have been killed by muslims in Kashmir.

Let us not talk about Kashmir even. Let us talk about my city in Central India. In this year, in my city and nearby, so far there have been 35 incidents of SJS (sudden jihad syndrome), in which muslims after emerging from Friday "prayers", attacked Hindus. 20 is the body count from these incidents. The incidents of SJS are additional to the organized attacks on Hindu religious processions and attempts to take over smaller Hindu temples in the remote areas.

What part of the koran I don't understand ? The actions of muslims speak much, much louder than words.
