After Leftist students disrupted and ruined a talk by Jim Gilchrist of the Minutemen at Columbia University, Columbia officials cracked down -- by barring guests who had traveled many hours to see ex-jihadist Walid Shoebat and others. How coincidental that they would choose this talk from which to bar people! Is their director of security Rashid Khalidi, their illustrious Edward Said Professor of Arab Studies?
"After Debacle, Security Tightened: Restrictions at Shoebat Event Show Public Safety's New Vigilance," by Josh Hirschland in the Columbia Spectator:
At Wednesday's Shoebat event, Roone Arledge Auditorium was packed with University administrators, including Jim McShane, associate vice president of Public Safety, and at least three executive vice presidents. Two rows of fencing ran the width of the auditorium, setting apart a group of invited guests invited by the Republicans. Public Safety officers were posted at the front of the stage and at the doors. All entrants were required to present both a CUID and a ticket or reservation. Attendees had to check bags and umbrellas. In other words, security was tight.
Before the event, University Chaplain Jewelnel Davis and Senior Vice Provost Stephen Rittenberg addressed the speakers in the Lerner Green Room.
"I don't expect any trouble from students, but if the audience starts to get rowdy or obstreperous, you shouldn't feel that you have to deal with them alone," Rittenberg said. "If there is any concern that you have, by all means let one of the organizers know, and we will be there to help. If we feel that things ... are going to be getting out of control then we will" intervene, he added.
The high level of security at the event prompted former Spectator columnist Bari Weiss, CC '07 and editor in chief of the The Current, to remark that "this is a police state."
Administrators rescinded dozens of invitations to guests of the College Republicans that members of the group could not identify. The Office of the University Chaplain made the decision to cut the list of guests presented to University officials late Tuesday from about 115 to 20. Some guests, who had come from as far away as Harrisburg, Penn. for the event stood outside during the speech.
Pamela Hall, who had her invitation revoked, said she found it "outrageously rude. The chaplain at Earl Hall is responsible for this. What kind of ill will." She added, "Once again, Columbia has shamed itself. Twice in one week."
The uninvited guests said that Shoebat tried to secure admission for them but was stopped by University officials.
"The University stands behind its decision, communicated to the sponsoring student groups at noon on Wednesday, that outside guests for the proposed and approved student event in Lerner last night be limited to 20 guests of students," the Office of Public Affairs said in a statement this morning.

....decision, communicated to the sponsoring student groups at noon on Wednesday....
There's some spin for you. Whether they communicated to the Republican student group at noon and the Republicans refused to accept the decision, it was not until 5pm or later that the email from Columbia notifying those who had RSVP'd that they couldn't get in.
Columbia is not alone in their sympathy Islam and hatred of the truth. It has to be discouraging to all of us that our Universities have become poison to democracy, a haven for anarchists and haters of America, a lair for Islam to nest and breed.

John don’t worry those same haters will send their own children to those same schools. Their kids will go through the muslim indoctrination process and marry muslims and convert to islam. Those idiots are destroying their own families; they will make great muslims.

This is such absolute cowardice on the part of Columbia. The two speakers have put everything on the line to warn Westerners about Islam. They were both terrorists, one in Lebanon and one in the West Bank, who admitted committing murder (one killed over 200). They discussed admissions of their past behavior and hatred and the Islamic brainwashing, starting at age 2-4, which led to such heinous actions. These guys put themselves and their families at risk.
The fact that the "college chaplain" made the cowardly decision is quite telling. I see this all the time with dhimmi Christians. Those who self-loath Christianity and spend all their time trying to be "nice" to Islam and "nice" to anti-Christian secularists. As an evangelical Christian, I am SO FRIGGIN SICK AND TIRED OF APOSTATE/WEAK/COWARD CHRISTIANS, PARTICULARLY WHEN THESE CHRISTIANS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE LEADERS OF CHRISTIANITY!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don’t know who I like less, the islamo-fascists or the spoiled-northeastern-‘elite’-college fascists. But it would be fun to lock them all up in the same room and film a reality show.

Off-Topic FYI: There is an ESPN special tomorrow morning (Sunday morning at 9:30am EST) on Pat Tillman called "Outside the Lines" which deals with his journey from the NFL to Afghanistan and tragic death. The preview showed fellow Rangers being interviewed who were there at the scene on the day he was killed. Maybe this will settle the issue of how he died once and for all. I hope so, but I also hope that it will be mainly a tribute to one Man's bravery, dedication, and sacrifice for his country, for all of us. Pat Tillman, American Hero, RIP.

hello123, you are correct, we need Christian leaders who dare to speaks the truth about Islam. If they called themself as our leader, then they have to lead us to the truth, not bow to the Islam.

Speaking of Columbia University, a couple of weeks ago a woman called into a talk radio show and said that when her daughter attended there, the school crest featured a crown and three crosses. Well, now the crosses have been removed by you know who.
It is so sad yet not surprising since we know who runs Columbia.

In the 1960's China wasn't the only place that suffered from a Cultural Revolution. The US also underwent one and even though it wasn't nearly as violent as China's the results have been more pervasive. Nowadays the universities are bastions of left wing nonsense embracing every anti-American idea and individual thanks to that Cultural Revolution. As a result we get a story like this, or invitations to Iran's former president among other outrages. It's no surprise as to why the media treats Islamania so nicely-that racket gets its robots right from these anti-American colleges that embrace the "peaceful ones" because they oppose the US and are "victims". What we are in desperate need of today is a cultural counter revolution to take back the anti-American media and universities so that Islamania's progress against the US both overseas and within the US can be stoppped. The sooner this happens the better the whole West will be.

Speaking of Walid Shoebat, I just received my copy of the DVD: 'Islam: What the West needs to know'. I'll discuss what I thought of this after I've seen it.

Ahhhh. The perfect confluence of Marxism with Islam. Right there in the belly button of JudeoChristianity self-loathing, good old Columbia U.
In saying that, I mean no disrespect to Yale, Georgetown, Berkeley, or Harvard, but the Judeo component of the self-loathing game is off the charts at Columbia.
610 * 623 * 732 * 1066 * 1215 * 1453 * 1492 * 1683 * 1928 * 1938 * 1948 * 1996 * 2001
What could be more satisfying? Well, we coulda had Barb S and Steven S and John S there to assist in the self-loathing.
That woulda been grate [sic].

Robert, off topic and nothing to do with this news item, but currently you have Dhimmi Watch and Jihad watch. Why not have a third section that has YouTube type video clips on it of various relevant topics?
Just another way of getting the message across.

I hate to say it, but maybe conservative students need to disrupt and sit-in in deans' offices. Those were the tactics that won the left control of academe back in the 1960's, not some special, irrefutable ability to analyze or reason.
Further, I reccommend a wholesale debunking of Leftwing icons.
Susan B. Anthony was associated with the axe-swining Carrie Nation.
Native Americans specialized in rape and castration when they burned farmsteads on the Prairie.
Mohandas Gandhi let his wife die rather than take "imperialist" medicine.
The list could go on.
Also, we need T-shirts reading "Che had it coming".

So Columbia responds to a crushing of free speech by. . . crushing free speech?
