The New Duranty Times notices the plight of Iraqi Christians that we have been chronicling here for several years now. This is the fruit, of course, of the resurgent jihad in Iraq since the toppling of Saddam Hussein. BAGHDAD, Oct. 16 — The blackened shells of five cars still sit in front of the Church of the Virgin Mary here, stark reminders of a bomb blast that killed two people after a recent Sunday Mass.In the northern city of Mosul, a priest from the Syriac Orthodox Church was kidnapped last week. His church complied with his captors’ demands and put up posters denouncing recent comments made by the pope about Islam, but he was killed anyway. The police found his beheaded body on Wednesday.
Muslim fury over Pope Benedict XVI’s public reflections on Islam in Germany a month ago — when he quoted a 14th-century Byzantine emperor as calling Islam “evil and inhuman” — has subsided elsewhere, but repercussions continue to reverberate in Iraq, bringing a new level of threat to an already shrinking Christian population.
Several extremist groups threatened to kill all Christians unless the pope apologized. Sunni and Shiite clerics united in the condemnation, calling the comments an insult to Islam and the Prophet Muhammad. In Baghdad, many churches canceled services after receiving threats. Some have not met since.
“After the pope’s statement, people began to fear much more than before,” said the Rev. Zayya Edward Khossaba, the pastor of the Church of the Virgin Mary. “The actions by fanatics have increased against Christians.”

It's not that they care about what the Pope said, it's just an excuse so they can do what they want. They WANT to kill the Christians.

WASHINGTON - The U.S.-led coalition in Afghanistan failed to follow through as it should have after ousting the Taliban government in 2001, setting the stage for this year's deadly resurgence, the NATO commander in the country said Tuesday. The mistake consisted of adopting "a peacetime approach" too early, British Gen. David Richards told Pentagon reporters. He said the international community has six months to correct the problem before losing Afghan support, reiterating a warning he issued last week.

The Western powers remember how successfully Germany, Japan and the other Axis powers were rebuilt after WWII. Now we have a strategy to rebuild everyone after a conflict. Sometimes we skip the conflict and try to go straight to rebuilding. We are smug in the (false) knowledge that after they see how helpful the Western powers are, they'll want to adopt our ways...
A general problem with this approach is that unlike WWII, every able bodied man of our enemies has not been conscripted into the defeated military (and thus traceable) or killed. We no longer use massive carpet bombing to disrupt their fight because we have weapons that can acurately hit just military targets. Thus their economy and infrastructure has not been obliterated to the point they will starve without our help. In WWII, a complete and absolute surrender was demanded and given. Now we declare peace while still fighting.

1)Let's airlift those people out of that cesspool.
2)The Sunnis and Shiites always take a break from killing each other if infidels are around to be killed.
3)Once the infidels are airlifted out let the troops follow. Then we can enjoy the Sunni vs Shiite bloodbath. Those savages deserve such a fate, for they contribute NOTHING to humanity.

using BBC type newspeak, it tries to make out everything was hunky dory for the iraqi Christians of Mosul, until the Pope opened his big Mouth.
OF course Spencer and others have brought us detsils of their persecution for years and the times know that only too well.
Another piece of disgusting anti western propaganda.
Does anyone know if the Sulsbergers still hava any editorial control in that shameful outfit ?

Thats the main problem with islam. what to do with it. if we start to behave like them in order to protect ourselfs from them, we became exactly like them. if we decide to do no harm to them, we also (will be forced to) became like them. Iso Kalac (ex muslim in montenegro) wrote in his "forbidden & forgotten" novel about muhammad nice diagnose about founder of islam: "...gravedigger.thats what you realy are muhammad. the greates gravediggar of humanity."
Actualy what ever we do with islam it will afect us, but nothing more will afect us accept ignoring them as our leftists utopians. So personaly I think, if we got to choose between two evils,I made my choice. you are right. kill em all.

Dear svemirko,
This is where you are wrong.
It would fine to be like them temporary basis to solve our problem.
Why, because our core teachings did not command us to go kill infedels. So, naturally, our future generations will not have the tendency to simply kill anyone in random.
You could campare with WW1 & WW2, it ended & we are just fine.
But the problem with muslims is thats is their core believe. Kill or forcefully convert through fear & intimidation & make an army of haters until theres no more peace loving people.
When we become like them as you said, what peace will it bring? There will still be wars among muslims because people are people. They just use the Quran to justify the wars & killings.
From my knowledge, Muslims will not fight those who are greater than them & plan to eradicate them. They would quickly offer truce for a few years & slowly grow & try to defeat their enemies.
This is what thats happening in Britain & in USA. They squel for protection calling others non believers & non sensitive to them. We give in all the time.
But once they get in control. They treat you like shit.
