Another slavery case in the U.S. From Reuters, with thanks to James:
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Two Egyptian nationals who pleaded guilty to enslaving a 10-year-old Egyptian girl at their Southern California home, making her work long hours serving their family of seven, were sentenced on Monday to prison terms.Abdel Nasser Youssef Ibrahim, 57, was sentenced to three years in federal prison and his former wife, Amal Ahmed Ewisabd Motelib, 43, was given 22 months behind bars by a federal judge. Prosecutors said the pair will be deported after serving their sentences.
U.S. District Judge James Selna also ordered the defendants to pay their victim more than $76,000 in restitution, which represents the money the girl should have been paid during the two years she worked for their family.
"The young victim in this case was subject to inhumane conditions that included both physical and verbal abuse," U.S. Attorney Debra Yang said in a written statement.

Geez, these idiots think they're in the old country or what? Maybe they felt the US has gone dhimmi enough to feel comfy in doing this.
By the way, what do the girl's parents have to say about this? Let me guess-they sold her to these two idiots, right?

This has been a Good News Day!!
Actually any day when I hear about abusers, manipulators, con-artists, slave-traders, infidel-haters getting "time" is a good news day. And this scum will be deported after serving jail time?
How more wonderful can it get?

I, for one, think this is a severely biased incident! Why aren't they prosecuting the thousands of white slave holders? Why are they only concentrating on Muslims? I think US authorities could use some sensitivity training.

He should have waited until the muslims numbers were higher and he would have gotten off with a warning. Oh, that's right this is not france.

The sentence was too short. A U.S. family doing the same thing would probably have received a harsher sentence. Maybe the "traditional practices" defense worked part way in this case.
J.C.S.
Your question is ambiguous. Do you mean "thousands of white holders of slaves" or "holders of thousands of white slaves"?

So what has happened to this girl? Is she back with her parents or a ward of the State? The biggest clash in cultures between the West and Islam is that the Judeo/Chrisian attitude views all human beings as equal and feels that human beings are endowed with the right to secure their own future unfetterd by the greed of others. When this mentality is lost you see people enslaving others because some people are "better" than others: And this is the basic tenent of Islam. I was disappointed to see that the wife only got 22 months...she was probably the one who did most the beating. Both husband and wife should have gotten five years minimum and then deported. We have to send a strong message that slavery is not tolerated in our culture...like alcohol is not tolerated in theirs. When we start tolerating this sort of thing acceptance of it is just around the corner.

sadly it re-inforces my opinion of the us legal system and the rubbish attitudes the U.S has about race and status because the U.S is famous for courts awarding rich and moderately rich white folk tens of thousands to ludicrous millions of dollors in compensation for the most inane "emotional stress" and so on.
Guess she was only some foreign slave girl so we will award her only the wages she was due and nothing in damages yet she has been damaged unlike a lot of people who get awarded cash from the courts.

From the Reuters article: "The girl was required to assist the couple's youngest children in getting ready for school, to prepare and serve food, clean the home, do laundry and work in the yard, according to court papers."
Take note of the couple's young children. If these children are American born, I can almost guarantee that the parents will not be deported. I wish I knew about their chillin's resident status.

Watch for diplomats and politicians to ask for early release after this leaves the headlines. I suggest everyone keep a notebook and write down how these things play out near your homes and vote accordingly. I have done that for a while, I also reward bad service by never returning and I mean never. Keep notes and vote. This has been a public service notice by Ronin. I am Ronin and I approve this message.
Lol, sorry, weak moment.

I bet she was more than just a "slave girl", since she is a whole year older than one of the wives of Muhammad.
I hope the authorities inquire into that area.

By the way with gain time and/or incentive time they both will probably serve a 14-15 months or less.

at October 24, 2006 7:07 PM
Putting it another way, neither will serve their FULL sentences (which are lenient) incarcerated.

at October 24, 2006 7:09 PM
According to the Orange County Register, the perpetrators will be deported after they serve their sentences.
The young girl (who is now 17 by the way) was adopted by an American couple and is doing fine.

Levi, I’d bet they know that as she would have been sent to a Doctor, proof is what they lacked, they would know she was no longer a virgin but not who raped her. Sometimes it is best to go for a charge that you can get a conviction from and get them off the street. The fact he was found guilty probably ruined ramadan for many a muslim. I’d bet they never dreamed you could be charged for hurting children, especially infidel children.

Islam is one of the fastest growing religions taught in prison and in its most radical form too, so both should feel at home while in prison and experience Islamic "revival".
They will come out "better" muslims...tragically.

Actually many muslim converts in the US switch back in less than three years, must really p them off, they can't even keep a criminal in thier cult.

Ronin: You say "Take note of the couple's young children. If these children are American born, I can almost guarantee that the parents will not be deported. I wish I knew about their chillin's resident status."
Amen to that. I'm interested myself. Perhaps one of our Los Angeles jihadwatchers can supply some information.
The District Clerk will have a public file on these folks, which is available for inspection and copying during regular business hours. There will usually be an information sheet filled out on the perp's background for the use of Court personnel, and this may (or may not) give the information you seek. However, by folowing the "clues" you can probably backtrack into the information.
For example, if the couple was arrested at home, then the children were probably turned over to a Children's Protective Services worker, and their names and ages may be noted mentioned in a narrative the by the releasing officer. If the couple applied for a bond to secure their release, then the bond application may give additional information and references, such as residence history, or employment history. Eventually, you can locate the birth certificates for US born children. If the children are aliens, then you might find reference to passport numbers and a country of origin. It might not be Egypt.
Tampa is a long way from L.A. You can do some of this legwork by mail, but my experience is that it is really tedious, an exercise in perseverance.
This is a another sad case. Since the child is a minor, the adults were probably acting with the "permission" of the parents, so they were not "kidnapped" as the law would recognize the term.

Oh Yes, I have heard about this right here in Rochester Minnesota. Seems a Mayo Doctor had a poor Philipian girl working in his household 24/7. Apparently He and his family hurried back to Islamicville as soon as he knew he was in trouble. I think they even left in the middle of the night...Seems that the Doc made a mistake and took his lil slave girls' pass port papers. I have heard holding the passport is the hold keeping the slaves in line...I slept a lot during history, but didn't Lincoln free the slaves??? Just wondering...

texan that was Pelayo who posted that. I hate to be cruel but I have no interrest in chasing this case, there are bigger problems to worry about. If I pulled off the veils I'd bet most muslim families in the us keep a slave girl. Watch them walk, there is always one female who doesn't seem to fit the group. She watchs the floor and doesn't speak, why do you think they want to keep the veil? It is hard to hide the "family member" who deosn't look like the rest of the haram. islam has lots of dirty secrets.

Texan, Yes, that was my post, the LA County Courthouse is about 2,500 miles from where I live. This is a case that will be taken up by the ACLU to prevent deportation. A natural born US citizen can't be deported; that is if their kids are US citizens. The argument will be that the US has no cause to take the children from their parents. Child abuse would have to be proven. The ACLU will win and the parents will stay. That is the primary reason pregnant women sneak across the southern border. The have a kid here and viola, permanent residency. I have read news stories to this effect.

Ten years is NOT enough punishment for enslaving someone, in my humble opinion. And the two Egyptians responsible may may end up getting some of their sentence time commuted as well.

It appears the authorities for once are trying to do the right thing.
Note they admitted what they were doing was legal in Egypt. Their excuse - they didn't know it was against the law here.

Ronin and Pelayo: Thanks for "unconfusing" me. I was in a hurry to post because the dinner bell was going off over here and I wanted to get my share!! I can see that I did a lousy job of spelling, too, in my haste.
Nobody really has the time to follow up on all the really interesting loose ends that the media leave when reporting stories like this one about the slave girl. The reporters may have the time, if the story is not deadline-driven, but most local reporters do not have the inclination unless they are working on a book. And few reporters are skilled at tracking down information any more. Most just copy someone's press release or jot down a few notes from a quick conversation.

I remembered this from a few months ago.
Irvine pair guilty in child slave case
http://www.ocregister.com/ocregister/news/homepage/article_1198476.php
The family has been here for six years and still speaks, in the courtroom, through an interpreter.
One must wonder what Ma and Pa Vicious did for a living here with no apparent English skills.
Pretty much everything they said was an obvious lie.
That they intended to keep the girl in servitude for 10 years, as "a well-intentioned, charitable desire to care for and support the children of an impoverished Egyptian family" is all the more outrageous in that the family's own children were in on this, too.
Very much like the Colorado incident.
The religious affiliations aren't mentioned for any of them, but the former slave girl has definately acclimated and assimilated into the Western lifestyle.
Good for her.

Naseem, do you not have a word of revulsion for modern-day slavers? Why do you rage against treating the Quran as any other book but have nary a word for the enslavement of other human beings in the name of he who invented it?
