The good news is, this has not been well received. The bad news is, he's Deputy Prime Minister. "Prescott heaps praise on 'tolerant' Malaysia, despite its crumbling human rights," by Ben Leapman and Jonathan Wynne-Jones for the Telegraph:
He has been lampooned as a lost soul, bumbling around the Far East with his retinue of aides in search of a purpose. John Prescott, the Deputy Prime Minister, today concludes a week-long tour that has taken in Japan, South Korea and China.
Up to now he has kept a low profile. Apart from a speech in Seoul and a school visit in China, he has avoided public engagements and media appearances in favour of private meetings with his foreign counterparts.
But on his final stopover, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia's capital, Mr Prescott broke cover by penning a 1,000-word article for the city's Star newspaper in which he reveals he wants to learn lessons for Britain about how different faiths live in harmony there. Malaysia is 60 per cent Muslim with sizeable Buddhist, Christian and Hindu minorities. On the surface, the groups live together peacefully. But underneath lies simmering resentment which has led human rights groups to observe that Malaysia treats its minorities unfairly. Christian campaigners in Britain have called his mission wrong-headed.
In his article, published yesterday, he speaks warmly of Islam, adding: "Islam enriches British society in many ways."
Somewhat bafflingly for his readers, Mr Prescott even digresses into the arcane topic of British motorcycle safety legislation, pointing out that our law allows Sikh bikers to wear turbans instead of helmets. Critics say it is that kind of tolerance that Malaysia lacks. Since the 1970s, the country has operated a "positive discrimination" policy, which gives priority to ethnic-Malay Muslims in applying for civil service jobs or university places.
The Sharia court system, which operates alongside civil courts, should not affect non-Muslims; but it has caused problems for Lina Joy, a Muslim who converted to Christianity. She has spent five years battling for permission to marry her Christian fiancé. And Malik Imtiaz Sarwar, a human rights lawyer, was this year ordered by the government to disband his organisation promoting religious freedom.
Baroness Cox, a human rights campaigner, called Mr Prescott's praise for Malaysian tolerance "gratuitously misleading". She said: "There is a great deal of religious discrimination. Christians there are finding that human rights and religious rights are crumbling away."

Prescott, a stupid man, has been deservedly criticized for many things besides his latest dive into the sea of Islam ("moderate" Malaysia, with the disguised Jizyah of the Bumiputra system -- google that last phrase -- and the famously "moderate" bloodcurdling orator Mahathir Mohamad) -- from the wharf which he manages to locate wherever he is, at his very own portable Sotteville-sur-mer.

Do agree with you.An excellent article in Telegraph and another in Western Resistance exposing lies of 'Malaysian Tolerance.'Every time Prescott speaks he makes a greater fool of himself.Would like to mention Red Ken Livingstone
is endorsing a Celebration to mark end of Eid-in Trafalgar Square-it's FREE of course just like Tax payers' money used to fund it.Nauseous Ken likens Muslims in Britain to-wait for it-plight of Jews in Nazi Germany...

Pretty telling that the Deputy Prime Minister is thinking ending up like Malaysia is an optimistic thought. I guess Londonistan could do worse.

Suppose Prescott takes the Malaysian model and tries it in Britain. What happens if Malayasia explodes in violence (since Islam hardly makes a good neighbor anywhere in the world)? Will he pack up his experiment then and hope that a similar explosion doesn't happen in Britain? Prescott can believe whatever he likes but if he believes that he can find harmony for Britain by looking at Malaysia he's just fooling himself.

Muslim burial for Malaysian hero
Mr Moorthy's widow was in tears after Wednesday's ruling
A Malaysian mountaineering hero will be buried as a Muslim, against the wishes of his Hindu wife, who denied he had converted to Islam before his death.
The decision follows a High Court ruling that it cannot override the country's Islamic courts in matters of religious conversion.
An Islamic court had said the man, M Moorthy, had become a Muslim last year.
Lawyers say the case highlights problems faced by non-Muslims dealing with Malaysia's Islamic justice system.
"So much for good interracial relations," Haris Mohamad Ibrahim, a lawyer representing Malaysia's Bar Council, told The Associated Press.
"The judge has just told the widow and her family to go back and leave the body of their beloved to be buried by strangers."
Coma
M Moorthy, 36, was a Hindu when he became a national hero in 1997 as a member of the first Malaysian expedition to conquer Mount Everest.
But when he died a week ago family supporters and state Islamic officials jostled one another at the mortuary as each tried to claim his body.
An Islamic Sharia court subsequently upheld a claim by his former colleagues in the army that he had become a Muslim last year.
However his family, who want him to have a Hindu funeral, were not allowed to appear before the court to dispute his conversion because they are not Muslims.
The family went to the civil court and argued that Mr Moorthy was a practising Hindu right up to a recent accident when he fell from his wheelchair and lapsed into a coma.
They say he was even interviewed for local television two months ago about his preparations for the Hindu festival of Diwali.
But the High Court agreed with government lawyers who argued the civil court had no jurisdiction.
Lawyers for the dead man's relatives say the ruling leaves non-Muslims little protection in family disputes considered under Islamic law.
Most Malaysians are Muslim but the country's constitution guarantees freedom of worship for all.

John Prescott is a Welsh idiot.
He talks about "Kovoso" when the rest of the world speaks of Kosovo.
How a fool like this gets into power is baffling. I suppose it must be the bigger fools who vote for him.

Two Jags comes from Hull.
Also he has a small penis by all accounts, and a documented love of fattening foods and playing hide the sausage.

"Islam enriches British society in many ways."
Let's see -
Honor murders, Infidel murders, murder for the fun of it
Female mutilation
Anti-freedom protests
Gang rapes
How's that for enrichment, Mr Prescott?

What is the really scary point is the level of both subject knowledge and intelligence shown by western politicians generally.
If it is these people who are to prevent us from becoming overwhelmed by Islam then there is NO chance all.

Malaysia, like the entire world, is undergoing a sahwa Islamia. People call for a reformation of Islam, but it's already underway, and like most reformations consists of returning to the fundamental texts and traditions.
I can't be the only person who's more than a bit concerned our government officials don't seem to have even the more rudimentary grasp of the news of the day, week, and month, much less civilizational trends which threaten to destroy the 21st Century.

The Malaysian system is just a form of Apartheid.
I don't know why something ahich was outrageous in South Africa should be praiseqorthy in other latitudes.

Beagle,
Well said.
There is not a single Muslim country nowadays engaged in a reform towards a more democratic or freedom-loving society.
This should be alarming enough.

I agree with all the readers about the pathetic blinded foolish leaders we have in the West.
I am not a prophet, but I expect one of two things to happen:
1) Europe will fall into the clutches of Islam and no longer be the Europe of old. Western civilization will die in Europe. It will become Islamic.
OR
2) A "great man" in Europe will arise that will wage violent war against Islam saving Europe from the tyranny of Islam. He will be praised and given great political power. He will be a "savior" to Europe. We all will applaud his leadership in eradicating Islam from Europe.
The only downside is that this man will eventually be disclosed to be the awaited man prophesied about long ago, i.e. the anti-Christ.
We shall see and note I said I was not a prophet, but it is a gut feeling.

Useless appendage. Makes you sick of paying taxes in this country.
In times past we'd send them to Bedlam and take paying customers past them for entertainment.

Before education was destroyed in England by the politicians there was a system of Grammar Schools from the time of William Shakespeare which chose its students from results of a competitive written examination called the Eleven Plus.
Prescott always displays the chip on his shoulder because he failed it - he is in fact living proof that this exam was highly accurate and valid because in no other occupation could this corrupt and coarse buffoon have been entrusted with authority or money

Prescott's extreme stupidity or deceit or both proves --if further proof were needed-- that the EU has no business butting its nose into the rest of the world's business. Prescott is on a par with other Eurocrats and lowlifes, like Javier Solana, Chris Patten, etc. They have no right or qualifications to come to Israel and tell us what to do. They are either incapable of understanding and perceiving the world's realities OR they deliberately distort the reality. In either case, they have nothing to tell us.

it has obviously escaped the attention of two-jags (or two-shags, as he is now known, since his adultery was exposed) that christians in malaysia are not even allowed to give christian literature to muslims, that certain parts of the country are intent on getting back to the real islam ie introducing the death penalty for so called apostasy, that even in the "tolerant" parts you have to endure lengthy sharia court proceedings in order to convert to christianity, and that in other parts it is an offence for muslims not to attend so called friday prayers
yes, fatboy, just the thing we need in the uk
btw mert, whats wrong with having a small penis? i have one. whats your problem with this?

Malaysia´s model is, actually, quite attractive.
This is due to its still very much alive Common Law and British heritage in governance and other fields.
Then you also have a wide diversity and a, basically, more or less commonsensical approach by Malaysian leaders to how things should be run.
However, the most important obstacle to Malaysia becoming a truly developped and integrated country lies with Malay-Muslim nationalism.
Malays actually make up some 52-53% of the population. If you add other Muslims then you get the extra to achieve 60%.
Malays try to lead the country in cultural ways (thence the official language while English is actually more popular) and religiously. And here comes the big point.
The Malay community is divided between those who vote religious parties (PAS) or those who vote nationalist parties (UMNO).
They don´t have enough numbers to totally Islamicize Malaysia, and they realize the balance 40% of the population totally oppose the move.
Then Malaysia is a curious case where the triumphant march of Jihad has been contained.
For how long? No one knows. Especially if you keep in mind that the different communities of the country have been pollarized now between Muslims vs. Non-Muslims. And this is a recipe for trouble.

Prescot is considered to be as "Thick as a brick" and what political purpose he serves has had the British press guessing for years. We can only assume that as Deputy Leader he keeps anyone who might actually be a threat to friend Tony out of the job.
A few years ago he made a speech at the Labour Party conference and one journalist wrote that he "Did ten rounds with the English language and left it battered and bleeding"
