Livingstone backs terrorist's Tube job

More Churchillian courage in the face of evil from Ken Livingstone. From the Daily Mail, with thanks to Jeffrey Imm:

Ken Livingstone today defended the right of Abu Hamza's son to work for a Tube contractor - despite his conviction for terrorism in Yemen.

Mohammed Kamel Mostafa, 25, from Wembley, was given a security pass and had access to restricted areas - including tunnels under Parliament - during his time as a labourer at nights and weekends on the Underground.

But the Mayor said he doubted the veracity of any conviction from Yemen and said Mostafa had passed Tube security checks.

He said it was wrong to restrict his ability to work simply because he was the son of Abu Hamza. Mr Livingstone said: "Has he broken any laws here in Britain? The answer is no. We are happy to have him working for us.

"No one can be blamed for what their parents do. All we ask is that they respect the law of the land and do not hurt anyone."

His extraordinary intervention came after Tube chiefs were accused of an appalling blunder after allowing Mostafa to work in restricted areas.

This man is a buffoon along with his sidekick George Galloway. When will they learn that their left wing ideology is finished.
Although I suppose he would call me a Kapol
(i.e. concentration camp guard see ealier Red Ken Stories) for speaking out.
Unfortuantely I reside in the Scottish part of the British Isles which has alot of these people.

I hope he will be commissioned to work in a tunnel under ken's office. Permanently.

BTW, is this guy called camel?

Did Ken Livingstone consult a lawyer before he made that statement? I would think that he would have to speak carefully about this type of issue and be backed up by fact and not just a desire to avoid offending Muslims. (Or should I say, I would hope...)

How carefully are Tube contractors expected to screen their employees and how diligent is the transit authority in ensuring this is done?

What type of criminal record would be required for the transit authority to legally restrict a workers's access?

What does Livingstone's statement mean in terms of the current laws and practices governing immigrants with criminal records?

Does Britain refuse residency or citizenship to anyone based on any types of criminal record? You would think a previous conviction for terrorism, in any country, would be sufficient to bar a person for life.

I'm tired of the Brits, they act like they want to be French or something.

Boy I guess this guy must have read that quote "it's better to submit to rape than it is to resist and risk greater harm."

I hope the ass love they have coming to them is worth the submission.

If something tragic should happen in the tunnels, and mostafa is found to be part of it, red ken should be tared and feathered, then put on public display. Get that freak with a mind set contrary to common sense, out of office!

Posted by: mustang65 [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 31, 2006 5:33 PM

In principle, it's wrong to deny him the job because of what his father did. However, when you factor in the realities of Islam...

Is that enough for you? HOW does a guy who did terrorism when he was 17yo now get into Great Britain and get a security-sensitivce job there? How many more like him are there - still waiting to cause jihad?

germaninamerica - I'm sorry: I can't tell if I posted twice by mistake or if you were quoting my post.

I was upset when I read the first article. It seemed like a crazy, idiotic thing for the Mayor of London to say. But I used to work for a school board (government agency) and I saw various situations in which my supervisor had to consult lawyers, police, anti-racism experts, etc. That's why I asked the questions in my first post.

In some situations (such as employment and immigration), I think it boils down to a question of what the law supports and what will stand up in court (not to mention the will to enforce the law, etc.).

With this case, the problem seems to be with the system or how it is implemented. According to the second article, some people are questioning the way the various systems operate, and that is good. Perhaps some positive changes will be made. As to why the systems failed in the first place, my guess would be incompetence.

Apparently the offices, clerks, secretaries, inspectors and mayors are not appointed to benefit the public interest, indeed the public interest appears to have been established so that offices might exist.

I guess it's just me, but that lead-in sounds like something available on Central Ave. in Albuquerque, New Mexico around midnight.

"...indeed the public interest appears to have been established so that offices might exist."

Malinois - Exactly.

My husband and I were discussing this earlier this evening.

Anyone with a strong work ethic should not work for a government agency. If you work hard and do good work, your boss will give you other people's work because they are too lazy, slow or incompetent. This rewards the bad workers and penalizes the good workers. After all, they all get paid the same salary range, so why work hard if they don't have to?

Working in a unionized workplace is a strong disincentive to hard work or innovation.

In the private sector, you are rewarded for taking the initiative, finding solutions, working overtime, etc. (or at least you can be rewarded if you work for the right company). The bottom line is money. If you are doing a lousy job, you are costing your employer money, and you are fired.

In the public sector, you are wasting the taxpayers' money, but who cares? It's all funding from the government and it doesn't have anything to do with the bottom line or results. It exists, it is deemed worthy to exist, and it is therefore funded.

Our department got a certain amount of money each year in government grants. By the time the money showed up in the budget, there would be a huge rush to spend it all quickly before it was lost (because the next year's budget was coming in soon and money from this year isn't carried over into next year). I was amazed at what the money would be spent on, the stupid projects that got so far and then were abandoned, but only after the boss's friends and favourites had been paid for their extra "contract" work.

It all reminds me too vividly of Walkerton:

I worked in the private sector before I worked for the school board and I was often amazed and horrified at the differences. I had expected the school board to be the shining example of an excellent employer. Boy, was I disillusioned.

It helps to laugh at these type of things. There is no sense getting mad, you will give yourself an ulcer. Assert yourself into places where you can win, where the truth can get out.

On behalf of all sensible Londoners I would like to apologise for this twit of a mayor the looney left has imposed upon us. I didnt vote for him.

I'm not sure whether any of the 7/7 suicide murderers had broken UK laws, whether they did or not should not have removed them from scrutiny.

My only regret is that that twit was in Singapore rather than standing next to mohammed siddique khan on 7/7.

here's an idea - why dont we bring the loony left leaders together with the misunderstood practitioners of islam and then lock them in a building.

Trust me, there are many who are offended at this twit's ramblings.

That Londoners have Livingstone as a mayor, is because of their own apathy. In the last election which was for mayor, local government and Europe at the same time, only one person in nine in my street bothered to vote although the polling station was just 400 yards away.

Posted by: Elephant [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 1, 2006 6:48 AM

"But the Mayor said he doubted the veracity of any conviction from Yemen..."

Yeah, Yemen has such a notorious history of unfairly arresting and prosecuting terrorists.

What weight should be given to the nightmare of London, who put up witless Brian Whitaker to cast aspersions on the translators working for MEMRI, although even Al-Jazeera relies on them, and offers blanket denials of Sheik Qawadari's very publicly pronounced homophobia and antisemetism?

Shame on the electors of London if they don't find a credible candidate and back him or her in the next election.

I mean to post this last night before I went to bed.

London's mayor has backed down over comments he made about the employment on the Tube of a convicted terrorist. . . But the mayor said because Mostafa had failed to declare his convictions, his employers "are correct to dismiss him".
"Mr Mostafa has convictions in Yemen," he said. "These must be taken into account. I was not aware of this man's convictions at the time of my press conference this morning, ( pull the other one Kenneth, it has bells on) only of his family. It is clear that anyone who has been involved in terrorism in any form cannot be employed on the London Underground."

As I travel on that line regularly I shall sleep easier in my bed tonight (sarc)

ISLAMSFORLOSERS said "When will people ever learn?????"

Maybe when Prince Charles is King of England, and
"defender of the faith". I'm not overly Republican, but the thought of King Dhimmi I pushing Islamic "teaching" as a "solution for world problems" is the best argument for an Oz republic I've seen.

Islamic teaching could resolve world problems -- Prince Charles

ISLAMABAD, Oct 31 (KUNA) -- Prince Charles Tuesday said that the world problems could be resolve by following Islamic teachings, as Islam is a religion of peace and brotherhood.

Prince Charles while addressing a ceremony during his visit to Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) stressed on better relations between Islam and other religions.

He said that clash of civilizations could be averted by following the teaching of Islam and Quraan.

Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla Parker, British Ambassador and others members of delegation were also present on the occasion.

Livingstone is a plague on both houses - the house of commons and the house of lords.

Get rid of the al-jazeera beggar and let him bugger some other people after retirement. He weakens the British people. I can't believe what I've seen on memri.org and other places on this MOP

and prince Charles is the best argument for an elected, representitive government we've had in modern times. How can one put up with such things? Thank god for the founding fathers, Adam Smith and the rest.

I love the British people and their legacy to the world. That nation has birth'd the best and brightest lights of free world thought and practice... has been the stalwart defender and promoter of what we have achieved thus far, but come on! Prince Charles is a blight on the shining face the British nation! Livingstone is what is worst about vote-whores.

Posted by: A_Plague_on_Both_Houses [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 1, 2006 12:04 PM

To all British - pardon me, I had confused Livingstone, mayor of Londonistan, with George Galloway, emir of Blackburn Lanchestshire, in my repudiation of elected British officials and certain nobles with titles which include 'Defender of the Faith [Anglican Church]' which is not without a few body blows of hamhanded irony.

It was George Galloway whoring himself out on al-Jazeera, not Ken Livingstone.
It was George Galloway who asked for monetary donations from all peoples watching the interview on al-Jazeera and who referred to these groups as his partners, using the word 'we' more often than not.

Why do these examples [ Livingstone and Galloway] go out of their way to help Islamics? I still don't understand why they would see this as important even when votes are considered. Muslims are still a small minority as a percentage even if they are vocal and organized. Can someone from Britian help me understand the dynamics of this?

Posted by: A_Plague_on_Both_Houses [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 1, 2006 1:05 PM

For more on this guy see (from my 2006):

http://www.militantislammonitor.org/article/id/1708

in an interview, he hints that he has bomb making skills.
The Yemeni conviction, of which Livingstone was so dismissive, was an open and shut case in which large amounts of bomb making equipment were found in the defendant's possession. Effectively it was Brits plotting to kill, ndiscriminately, their fellow citizens.Hamza is wanted for extradition to the US because of his involvement in a subsequent kidnapping of tourists to try and gain their release resulting in the deaths of a few of the hostages.

Posted by: wallyUK [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 1, 2006 1:46 PM

Typical. Londonistan has been a welcoming home to dangerous Islamists for over a decade. We can't even deport them because of the legions of parasitical lawyers bleating about their human rights. Hamza has also made property deals from prison and his wife and brood are comfortably ensconsed in a house worth £500,000 on benefits at taxpayers expense. They're rubbing our noses in it and having a great laugh at the stupid infidels. Now this to cap it all!

The Guy Fawkes comparison is interesting. He represented a time when another group of "insurgents" - in this case, Catholics - were trying to overthrow the British state. In those days, they knew how to deal with them.

Posted by: londongirl [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 1, 2006 5:10 PM

A_Plague - I second that. Locke, Burke and Bacon are probably turning over in their graves every hour. Could they possibly come back if they are stirred enough?

I just finished the intro chapter to Melanie Phillips' "Londonistan". How incredibly sad that Britain has come to this. I wanted to upchuck.

Anyway, hats off to Ms. Phillips. She knows how to turn the knobs on the English language. Winston would have been proud.
