"I believe Mr. Al-Arian's request is part of the attempted Islamization of the American Justice System"

This forthright and unapologetic anti-dhimmitude and refusal to kowtow from Gordon Kromberg, assistant U.S. attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia, will no doubt not go unpunished. Expect calls for his resignation, if not his head. "Al-Arian attorney charges bias: He says a U.S. prosecutor openly condemned Islam and is aiming to stretch his client's sentence," by Meg Laughlin in the St. Petersburg Times, with thanks to PRCS:

Documents unsealed in the Sami Al-Arian case Thursday raise questions about an assistant U.S. attorney's motives for requiring Al-Arian to testify before a federal grand jury in Virginia.

Al-Arian's Tampa attorney, Jack Fernandez, wrote that on Sept. 18 he asked Gordon Kromberg, assistant U.S. attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia, to delay Al-Arian's transfer 30 days until after the Islamic religious holidays of Ramadan.

According to a court motion filed by Fernandez, Kromberg responded: "If they can kill each other during Ramadan, they can appear before the grand jury, all they can't do is eat before sunset. I believe Mr. Al-Arian's request is part of the attempted Islamization of the American Justice System. I am not going to put off Dr. Al-Arian's grand jury appearance just to assist in what is becoming the Islamization of America."

Kromberg declined to comment Thursday.

According to the unsealed documents, Fernandez called Kromberg back the same day and told him his comments "called into question (his) objectivity." Two days later, Fernandez said, he asked Kromberg to recuse himself from the part of his investigation involving Al-Arian. Kromberg refused.

On Oct. 19, Kromberg called Al-Arian before a federal grand jury in Alexandria, Va., and questioned him about his knowledge of the workings of an Islamic think tank in Northern Virginia. Al-Arian refused to answer, saying his "forced cooperation violated the plea agreement" he had made with prosecutors in Tampa.

In April, Al-Arian pleaded guilty to one count of aiding the terrorist group Palestinian Islamic Jihad with nonviolent activities. He was sentenced to 57 months in prison.

Al-Arian and his attorneys say that during plea negotiations it was clear to all parties that "Dr. Al-Arian would not cooperate with the government." Eastern Virginia was mentioned specifically.

They say Kromberg's words about Muslims raise questions about his motives and suggest he is trying to catch Al-Arian in "a contempt trap" to lengthen his sentence.

Good for Gordon Kromberg. It's about time our public officials started putting their foot down on this insanity. And we need to support him and raise a huge stink if anyone dares try to remove him. Remember what Brigitte Gabriel said in a speech at the Heritage Foundation (found on YouTube.com) that it only takes 50 people to pitch a fit for our elected officials to do something about it.

Hugh & Robert, will you keep an eye on this and let us know if his position becomes jeopardized by the peaceful Muslims? Since Mr. Kromberg is standing up for me I'd like to stand up for him. I can probably get 50 people to storm whatever office we need to to protect this man who's got some common sense!

I was going to post a comment here, but thanks Isabella you said what I and many others here were already thinking.

It's happening in Canada, too. From yesterday's National Post:

"'Family honour' murder defence rejected by Supreme Court

"OTTAWA - The Supreme Court of Canada declined an invitation yesterday to consider whether Muslim cultural and religious beliefs in "family honour" should be taken into account as justification for receiving a lighter sentence for killing an unfaithful wife. The court refused to hear the appeal of Adi Abdul Humaid, a devout Muslim from the United Arab Emirates, who admitted to stabbing Aysar Abbas to death with a steak knife on a visit to Ottawa in 1999. In an application filed in the Supreme Court, Mr. Humaid's lawyer, Richard Bosada, argued Humaid was provoked by his wife's claim she cheated on him, an insult so severe in the Muslim faith it deprived him of self-control. The concept of "family honour" in the Muslim culture means a man is disgraced if his wife has an affair, said the application. Mr. Humaid was convicted of first-degree murder and lost his appeal at the Ontario Court of Appeal..."

Mr. Kronberg has definately been exposed to the fundamentalist Muslim mindset; he was involved in the Ali al-Timimi prosecution, conviction, and sentencing.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/07/13/AR2005071301596_pf.html

Of note, here's a very interesting statement by Timimi at his sentencing:

""...and said his religious beliefs do not recognize "secular law.""

A fundamental problem for American Muslim fundamentalists.

Kromberg. Kromberg? With a name like that it is so obvious that this is yet another part of that dreadful Zionist Plot we keep hearing about from the peaceful ones. Yuk yuk.

God bless Kromberg for telling it like it is. We need politicians like him!

Mr. Kromberg is completely correct here. There is nothing about Ramadan to prevent someone from appearing in court. To say otherwise is rubbish. I was in the Gulf for the last 12 years and nothing changed during Ramadan except eating/drinking during the day (nyet!) and business hours were usually a couple of hours shorter. It really does make one mad--

HE MIGHT HVE GOTTEN OFF AND BEEN GIVEN SOME JIZHA FROM THE GOVERMENT

Notice how a cold-blooded killer can be a devout muslim....Is a devout muslim more likely to be a cold-blooded murderer, than not-so-devout a muslim (if there is any difference)? Or are all muslims cold-blooded murderers, devout or otherwise? or does a cold-blooded murderer turn into a viscious butcher, the more devout a muslim he is?

"Notice how a cold-blooded killer can be a devout muslim...."

Alert - Yes, isn't that interesting?

"My faith made me do it." It has a nice ring to it. Sort of like: "The devil made me do it."

Josephine - All islamic terrorists are devout muslims, they all shout "Allahooo Akbar" as they commit their heinous crimes.
Apparently the following quranic guarantees of instant paradise with gorgeous virgins with swelling breasts (78.33: damsels with swelling breasts, their peers in age) for their martyrdom has something to do with their laying their lives for their faith. :

faqi - Yes. I despise the sound of those words and they way they are spoken as if by orgasmic robots.

Well seems everybody agrees here.

I think these attempts to implement Islamic rules and to limit democracy is happening every day in Europe and in the US.

And I think its great that we finally begin to understand whats actually going on in the minds of these guys.

In Denmark they (muslims) filed charges at high court against the newspaper (Jyllandsposten) that printed the Muhammed drawings last winter. This off course was an attempt to limit free speach. They didnt succeed and Jyllandsposten was not found guilty. It would have been exactly the beginning of they are really up to.

Im really scared. These guys work on a long term strategic plan to change the western democracies that we know in Europe today. I think the Brits are in deep Sh... and they will not be able to control it. My worst case scenario is like the one we had in the former Jugoslavia/Bosnia. You can imagine a situation where the concentration of muslims in larger european cities becomes so high and where their claims for Islamization becomes a confrontation between values. It will then no longer be a matter of police where youn muslims burn cars in for instance Paris but turn into a civil war with regular fights between "old europeans" and the "euro muslims" breaks out.
Even in a small country like Denmark we have areas of large cities where the police is no longer the de facto force. This is not far from the situation in Beirut where Hisbollah rules in major part of town.
