Dhimmi Carter may lead U.N. investigation of Israel

CartersSpencer.jpg
Dhimmi and Rosalynn Carter with Jihad Watch Director Robert Spencer in 1984 -- if I met him again, I'd have a few things to tell him

Not surprising coming from the UN. "President Carter Could Lead U.N. Investigation of Israel," by Benny Avni in the New York Sun, with thanks to Ruth King:

UNITED NATIONS — As Palestinian Arab rockets struck two Israeli towns yesterday, U.N. bodies prepared to launch no fewer than two overlapping "fact-finding" missions to second-guess Israel's anti-terrorist tactics. President Carter could head one of those missions.

The U.N. General Assembly is expected to convene a special emergency session tomorrow to deal with the November 8 Israel Defense Force artillery strike on the northern Gaza town of Beit Hanoun, which killed 19 civilians. A draft resolution for the assembly session calls on the U.N. secretary-general to establish a fact-finding mission into the event and requests that he report back to the assembly in a month.

And yesterday in Geneva, the U.N. Human Rights Council, which in its five months of existence has failed to pass one resolution on any country other than Israel, concluded its third emergency session on the Jewish state. In the session's resolution, the council called on its president, Ambassador Alfonso de Alba of Mexico, to establish a fact-finding mission to investigate the incident at Beit Hanoun.

A diplomat in Geneva who requested anonymity said the sponsors of the resolution are planning to ask Mr. Carter to head the investigation. Other candidates include the diplomats Martti Ahtisaari of Finland and Sadako Ogata of Japan.

Israel, which is conducting its own investigation into the incident, has yet to decide on its level of cooperation with the U.N. probes.

The Israelis shouldn't cooperate at all, but they will probably be compelled to do so. George Bush and Tony Blair will make sure of that, when they should be standing up and denouncing the UN's persecution of Israel and continuous ignoring of the mistreatment of women and religious minorities under Sharia.

Robert,
What is it going to take, to make folks wake-up
to the dangers that face this world?

Thank you for writing "The Truth" it's a great book... If I were wealthy beyond all means, I'd buy enough copies to give all the Senator's and Congressmen a copy.

Here we go again. The Urine Nations will be pissing all over Israel. Again. Meanwhile, Iran gets to do whatever IT wants-crying to the UN when convenient and ignoring it otherwise. Why does the US continue to host this less than worthless organization and pay for much of its operations? Move it to Mogadishu or to some other toilet where it would fit in better with the surroundings.

Will Jimmy Carter please go away already? Isn't it enough he gave us four dismal years as president? If he keeps on making peace in the world we will all end up dead in no time.

Someone with Common Sense needs to apply for the head job at the Useless Nations.

Israel's contributions to mankind are so numerous we cannot count them.

Palestine (and every other stinking muslim nation in the middle east) has contributed NOTHING to mankind of any value. Name one GOOD thing that benefits society that comes from there. Just one.

It's bad enough Israel is being abused by these savages, but to be abused by civilization is just beyond comprehension. It doesn't take a rocket scientist or even a first grader to see how ridiculous this investigation is.

Common sense is dead.

ISLAMSFORLOSERS, I'm sure Robert wishes for the day this website was not needed. I'm afraid that day won't be in any of our lifetimes. Unless of course people are willing to speak the truth of what this war is about and do something to stop the muslims. This scares me for my grandchildren.

It seems like some of us out here in the ether overestimate human capacity. We are slow to come around and stupid enough that it always takes avoidable catastrophes to prod us into change.

We're a step above sheep and that's being generous.

Robert, whenever an article on Carter is posted at JW/DW, could you please always conclude with the following quote by Jimmeh's momma, Lillian:

“Sometimes when I look at all my children, I say to myself, "Lillian, you should have stayed a virgin."”

Posted by: Shy Guy [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 16, 2006 11:46 AM

I'll never forget when I lived in Western Massachusetts in a medium sized town where Carter's Habitat for Humanity was building a brand new home for a welfare mother and her children in the middle of a housing market with plenty of vacancies, houses for rent, etc. and thousands of poorer WORKING people living in old homes that could use a new roof or minimal electric upgrade. The endless push for free supplies, ads, dances, fundraisers, meetings, fantastically complex arrangements of 'voluneer hours' to make this 'dream come true' convinced me that these feel-good Carterites were INSANE. All show and and no substance. Never trusted the man's vision since.

This gives me such a headache. Israel shouldn't have to submit to this: its own government's findings should suffice.

The UN is just a bully pulpit for anti-Semites.

Posted by: Josephine [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 16, 2006 12:28 PM

Jimmy Carter "investigating" Israel on behalf of the UN - LOL LOL LOL Finally Carter gets something he can really sink his teeth into. Let me guess. "Massacre". "Violation of international humanitarian law". "Deeply deplore blah blah plight blah plight of Palestinians blah blah poorest place on earth densest population on earth blah border crossing blah blah humilation blah massacre of innocent children blah blah The Children!!!"

Seriously, Israel needs to do 3 things:

(1) "UN: F*** off". Stay in UN, but be very aggressive against the Islamist propaganda. For god sake, no more apologies from Olmert and friends

(2) Make a super-double-secret govt. 10 year plan to get 100 % off all U.S. aid, and build economy and other institutions toward a 10 year goal of being a free-standing, self-sufficient state. The "ward of the American state" thing is just not working anymore, and it explains a lot of the recent problems and mistakes.

(3) Fire every last person currently working in govt. PR in Israel, and bring in professionals to deal with and confront the Islamist propaganda

Posted by: jsla [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 16, 2006 12:48 PM

Actually, it makes a lot of sense. The Useless Nations hiring the most useless President in US history to conduct another useless human rights hatchet job on Israel, the only civilized nation in the Middle East and the only one there that actually cares about human rights. Dhimmi Carter is the right man for the job.

Of course, he won't mention how Islamist Palestinian thugs hide among the people when attacking Israelis to maximize Palestinian casualties and demonize Israel. Notice I didn't say "Palestinian civilians" or "Palestinian innocents" because there is no such thing these days. All Palestinians are combatants in this war.

Stand strong, and God bless you, Israel.

this would be all individuals who do not speak a Semitic Language. This family includes the ancient and modern forms of Amharic, Arabic, Aramaic, Assyrian Neo-Aramaic, Akkadian, Ge'ez, Hebrew, Maltese, Syriac, Tigrinya, etc.

So, what you really meant to state is that “The UN is just a bully pulpit for anti–Israelites or Anti-Zionist”

This man WOULD NOT defend his own nation while our own soviergn soil was attacked in Iran and he WOULD NOT help our US citizens there.

This man is not qualified to research the mistakes, actions, morals or ethics of anyone nation or person.

Why is it that NO Muslim country is ever investigated by the UN? Only the Western countries that are accountable and transparent.

By the way, isn't the UN still in committee (now four years) on the definition and use of the word 'genocide' pertaining to Sudan. Someone send them a DAMM dictionary.

Israel does not have to allow any UN ivestigation or probe. And they should demand compliance by the UN for their International Refugees the Palestinians and all neighboring treaties and UN resolutions. This should be done before Israel complies with anything with the UN.

There should be an American investigation or UN investigation as to why there is never any enforcement of International Law by the UN on Human Rights, Refugee Camps, or Security Counsil Resolutions when Muslims are involved.

Any partial investigation by the UN into anything that is muslim is dropped by the investigators dying, or recieving death threats.

P.S. Someone call up George Clooney and tell him that his Dem's got the senate and house and tell them to do something about Sudan, we never would do anything about it. Now that would be a place that Jimmy Carter should go to.

Knighthawk: You are entirely incorrect. "Technically speaking" anti-Semtism is a term which only refers to hatred of Jews. It is not a linguistic or ethnographic term. It was coined by Wilhelm Marr about 1870 to give hatred of Jews a scientific veneer. Later on, Marr repudiated his anti-Semitism (at least, I believe so).

Posted by: Seymour Paine [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 16, 2006 3:17 PM

How is it possible that Israel, our only ally and the only sane nation in the Middle East, is constantly criticized when they are not the aggressor, when they have bent over backward to accomodate Palestine ? Yet it's fine for the Palestinians to publicly and repeatedly declare their intention to wipe Israel off the map. Oh, I forgot, Palestinian maps don't include Israel !

The UN is a joke.

Seymour -
No Technically speaking - I am correct. The phrase as used by Marr was a German slang term for Judenhass, or Jew Hater.

The root cause of all the hate in the world is a historic lack of trust and truth...

"anti-semtism" came from a root of the Semitic peoples... It was originally geared against all peoples for the Middle-East.

KnightHawk: Uh, no, you are wrong.

Here's a link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-semitism

and there are many other as well. This is not a controvesy.

The word antisemitic (antisemitisch in German) was probably first used in 1860 by the Austrian Jewish scholar Moritz Steinschneider in the phrase "antisemitic prejudices" (German: "antisemitische Vorurteile"). Steinschneider used this phrase to characterize Ernest Renan's ideas about how "Semitic races" were inferior to "Aryan races." These pseudo-scientific theories concerning race, civilization, and "progress" had become quite widespread in Europe in the second half of the 19th century, especially as Prussian nationalistic historian Heinrich von Treitschke did much to promote this form of racism. In Treitschke's writings Semitic was practically synonymous with Jewish, in contrast to its usage by Renan and others.

German political agitator Wilhelm Marr coined the related German word Antisemitismus in his book "The Way to Victory of Germanicism over Judaism" in 1879. Marr used the phrase to mean Jew-hatred or Judenhass, and he used the new word antisemitism to make hatred of the Jews seem rational and sanctioned by scientific knowledge. Marr's book became very popular, and in the same year he founded the "League of Antisemites" ("Antisemiten-Liga"), the first German organization committed specifically to combatting the alleged threat to Germany posed by the Jews, and advocating their forced removal from the country.

"Name one GOOD thing that benefits society that comes from there"

I can name one very good "thing"!

All the Palestinian Christians who are being forced by the rising tide of Islam to abandon their ancient homeland on the "West Bank". Most of these Christians try to get to Israel, America, Europe, or Australia where they become valuable members of society. Lets hope that the West (and especially Israel) will wake up, expel the Muslim interlopers, and allow Christians and Jews, who are the true owners of Judea and Samaria, to reclaim their rightful patrimony.

Technically, the middle eastern tribes that speak the languages of Amharic, Arabic, Aramaic, Assyrian Neo-Aramaic, Akkadian, Ge'ez, Hebrew, Maltese, Syriac, and Tigrinya, are semites as well. Indeed, there is a similarity, racially, between many Jews and their neighbors. The classic Jewish nose, for example, can be found on the Iranian president just as well. But historically, the phrase anti-semitism has been used only by Jews to describe anti-jewish sentiment.

BTW, is it not ironic, that in that picture above, the leftist, arabic-looking, john lennon-spectacled guy turned out, 20 years hence, to be the one warning us about islam, while the white bread old man on the left turned out to be the leftist radical?

Ironic indeed.

Just to clear things up:
Amharic and Geez are Ehtiopian Languages, therefore not Middle Eastern but Semitic. Tigrinya in an Erithreian language and Amharic is long extinct and Malta is certainly not in the Middle East. What is it with always trying to proove that Jews(Mizrahim Jews) are distince from all the other people in the Middle East? They are mainly natives of Canaan aka Judea,Israel or Palestine. Not different from Palestinians and Lebanese.

KnightHawk - Yes, and I knew that, but I was too lazy and tired to try to word it differently. ; )

I think that, when most people say anti-Semitic, they mean anti-Jewish. Although that is technically incorrect, it is commonly used as such.

It's interesting. Israelite would be correct but I never think of a Jewish person as an Israelite. My 4th-great-grandfather was Jewish, born and raised in England, and I never think of him as an "Israelite".

I've been going through old passenger lists from the early 1900s and the religion or ethnicity of Jewish people from various countries was listed as "Hebrew". I only think of Hebrew as a language.

Anyway, point taken, and you are correct.

Posted by: Josephine [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 16, 2006 5:51 PM

I do not think J Carter is anti-semitic, but he is a deeply misguided man. He seems to think Israel should not defend itself, that Israel is in a situation where "turning the other cheek" will earn it goodwill and peace. Unfortunately, a more appropriate metaphor for Israel's situation is "opening another vein".

All the Western powers who have recent experience fighting the blended military/civilian Islamic forces should understand Israel's situation and defend its actions in the UN, for the accusations levied against Israel will soon be turned on them.

When carter lost the presidency in '80, he didn't go quietly into the night. In office, he may have been inept, but he was not a left wing radical. A little soft perhaps, but not left wing. After his loss to Reagan, a right-wing republican, Carter changed. And it was a slow change. Over the years, a bitterness overtook him. In 1981, he wouldn't have been caught dead with the likes of someone like Chavez, Cindy Sheehan, the president of north korea. Today, he happily keeps such company.

When some men fall from grace, they take to the bottle. Others turn to religion. When Jimmy carter left in humiliation at the hands of the swaggering Ronald Reagan, Carter turned leftward. And he has not looked back.

"Amharic and Geez are Ehtiopian Languages, therefore not Middle Eastern but Semitic. Tigrinya in an Erithreian language and Amharic is long extinct"

posted by karkum above.

Tenastaling Karkum (that's Amharic for "hello"),

Actually Amharic is a vbery much alive modern language. It is a Semitic language spoken in North Central Ethiopia by the Amhara. It is the second most spoken Semitic language in the world, after Arabic, and the "official working" language of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and thus has official status and use nationwide. Amharic is also the official or working language of several of the states within the federal system, including Amhara Region, the multi-ethnic Southern Nations, Nationalities, and People's Region, and Afar Region, despite the latter's homogeneity. It has been the working language of government, the military, and of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church throughout modern times. Outside Ethiopia, Amharic is the language of some 2.7 million emigrants (notably in Egypt, Israel and Sweden), and is spoken in Eritrea by educated Eritreans of the preindependence generation and younger deportees from Ethiopia.

It is written, with some adaptations, with the Ge'ez alphabet (used for the language of the same name) called "fidel" (alphabet) in Ethiopian Semitic languages. Because of the rapid growth of Ethiopian communities in Europe and America as well as in Canada several public service organizations started to offer Amharic language translation and interpretation services. Many Rastafarians learn Amharic as a second language because their religion believes it is the original and a sacred language. Various roots reggae musicians including Lincoln Thompson and Misty-in-Roots have written songs in Amharic, thus bringing the sound of this relatively unknown language to a wider audience.

The Voice of America has broadcasts in Amharic. http://www.voanews.com/horn/amharic_audio.cfm

An online Amharic-English dictionary is available at: http://www.amharicdictionary.com/

Ge'ez is sometimes called an extinct language but this is incorrect. Today Ge'ez remains as the main language used in the liturgy of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahdo Church, the Ethiopic Catholic Church, and also the Beta Israel Jewish community. However, in Ethiopia Amharic or other local languages, and in Eritrea and Tigray Region in Ethiopia Tigrinya may be used for sermons.

KnightHawk,

I always chuckle when I read that some Arab is being anti-semitic or see an Arab say "I am anti-semitic." Do they loath themselves?

In common usage, even though it strikes me as odd and wrong, anti-semitic means anti-Jewish.

I think of it as something like the beginning of this millenium: Did it begin on Jan. 1, 2000 or Jan. 1, 2001? Technically it began in 2001 but popular opinion celebrated the 2000th year (Anno Dominice Incarnationis) on Jan. 1, 2000.

KnightHawk: I don't know what school you wrote your paper for, but in common usage, (as St David mentions), anti-Semitic means only anti-Jewish. Like many words, its meaning cannot be located by semantic or entymological analysis. Perhaps you should read up on this topic in your free time.

And, as for Wiki being some kind of Cliff's Notes, it sometimes is, but many of the articles are well cited. It's nearly always a good place to start.

In this case, it is an excellent analysis of the term. But, you know, it's a big world, so please feel free to talk about the UN being anti-Israelite or whatever yanks your chain.
