Sharia chic in Marie Claire magazine

marieclairehijab3.jpg

They're just too glamorous for jihad, right? Right?

Debbie Schlussel has the story.

I fail to see the glamour OR difference in one black garbage bag to another one.

Marie Claire should be insisting the burka to be banned instead of seeing it as fashion.

As Free Women, they should know the meaning of the burka.

I SEE LEG!!! Off with their heads! (That must be worth a beating, at least.)

Seriously, I took a look at all of the shots on Debbie's site. Geeez....there's a lot of money in Dubai. You'd thnk they could get a photographer who knows how to handle flare from the sun.

Medieval Black. Hmmm...kindy catchy. I'm going to approach the fashion designers where I work to see if they can work it into the line. Everyone here in NYC will lap it up, I'm sure.

Posted by: Vee [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 22, 2006 8:59 AM

Oh, and maybe next issue Marie Claire can run a spread on MEN using the burkha. You know, like those burglars outlined in the previous story.

It's not the clothes, but the implicit message that women can convert and maintain the freedoms to which they're accustomed which concerns me. Focusing on exceptions in that part of the world gets women killed. Perhaps it's time to remake Not Without My Daughter.

Posted by: Beagle [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 22, 2006 9:02 AM

I saw a news clip on TV recently that showed a woman wearing one of those metal face guards. She reminded me of Hannibal Lecter (sp?) in "Silence of the Lambs". It was creepy.

I wish I could have seen the the photographers, models and editors while they were working on this layout. Could they keep a straight face? Was it a joke or did they take it all very seriously? Who on earth thinks it's okay and even fashionable for a woman to have to wear a metal face guard?

What kind of garbage are they feeding their readers? It's not just stupid fashion, it's dangerous, misleading propaganda.

I agree with Beagle that, "It's not the clothes, but the implicit message that women can convert and maintain the freedoms to which they're accustomed which concerns me".

If that's not a gag then the Taliban needs to visit Dubai and beat some of that old time sharia into this improperly covered meat. Next thing you know they'll be wearing non-black outfits. Such things must end or else the whole ummah will be doomed, DOOMED I tell ya!

They look like the character from Edvard Munch's painting "The Scream".

Posted by: Shy Guy [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 22, 2006 9:39 AM

These 3 Arabic women remind me of the agents in a top secret, above-the-government agency monitoring alien activity on Earth in the movie “Men In Black.”

http://www.netflix.com/MovieDisplay?movieid=60001650&trkid=189530&strkid=1218005145_0_0&hnjr=5

They look just like aliens with their long slim bodies, round faces and BIG "eyes." Western culture is going down if they look toward Sharia chics for some new fashion idea. The Purification of Mankind (POM) is coming!

Posted by: kung fu fighter [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 22, 2006 9:55 AM

What's Hilali's view on this? Somebody should send these pix down to Australia so he can say some more enlightening things. Or maybe it'll really get his ticker going.

Posted by: ISLAMSFORLOSERS [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 22, 2006 10:00 AM

I can't believe you people. Sharia-chic or not these women are hot, hot, hot. I'm all for more pics of hot women displaying their hotness here at Jihad & Dhimmi Watch. I think these photos should go permanently on the sidebar.

If the domestic US fashion industry tried to duplicate this spread the "girls" would all have the figures of prepubescent boys.

Putting up more photos like these will draw more eyeballs. I'm all for it.

Posted by: dfobare [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 22, 2006 10:27 AM

One step at a time. I'd rather look at these women in Sharia-chic than Kate Moss or this month's "model who looks like a 9-year old boy" in a bikini. Hot women draw eyeballs. Let's have more of these spreads.

Posted by: dfobare [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 22, 2006 10:43 AM

I like the one on the right, but if she's showing that curvy... can it be halal?

Also, is the one on the left Elvis and the one in the middle an alien ( we are not alone )

Posted by: A_Plague_on_Both_Houses [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 22, 2006 10:59 AM

When will one of the "holy men" deem this inappropriate? We all know that such a statement will be made. I just can't see this as being acceptable attire. I doubt Illah had this in mind for a proper covering (but I'm sure Mr. perfect wouldn't have minded).

Those girls had better watch out-they'll be targeted for death threats and worse for mocking the holy wardrobe.

Posted by: ISLAMSFORLOSERS [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 22, 2006 11:05 AM

Simple fact of life folks. Show hot women on the home page, get more eyeballs, get more clicks. Way of the world.

Posted by: dfobare [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 22, 2006 11:07 AM

Aren't the burka's a little tight for a muslim male taste? After all, the women aren't supposed to show their wiley curves. Too seductive for them.

Posted by: freewoman [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 22, 2006 11:08 AM

Hmm, I just realized that this might be what those 72 virgins look like in paradise. If that's so isn't this a case of blasphemy?

Josephine writes:

The new ABC TV sitcom, "Ugly Betty," is doing a fabulous job satirizing and skewering how the fashion world exploits women, and the contemptible pseudo-sophistication of those who work in it. It's just another example of what Tom Wolfe long ago termed "Radical Chic."

In "Ugly Betty," the fashion magazine "Mode" is designing their annual Christmas issue. But they want something "sophisticated"--no Santa Claus or Christian values for them! So they choose a theme of global thermonuclear war, complete with fashion models wearing gas masks and with skin tones simulating radiation sickness.

So if they can do Nuclear War Chic, they can also do Jihad Chic. Or Nazi Holocaust Chic. (They always, always, always do Anorexic Chic, but that's a whole other story for a whole other blog.)

They routinely confuse "obscene" with "avant-garde" and "sophisticated."

You asked for it, you got it!

Here's a recent photo essay from Time Magazine, "Looking Beyond The Veil."

It's basically a fashion show of burqas.

Yup, props to Ugly Betty. Only problem is that the last half hour conflicts with "The Office". Now there is a show idea - a Muslim mockumentary called "The Mosque".

I like hot women, muslimah or not...

If we can get the muslimahs to stand up for themselves the whole thing comes crashing down. They are worth helping. Some of them do understand, some are simply ewes who will follow the herd.

Nonie Darwish, Wafa Sultan,
Wafa Dufour (bin Laden's niece)

What does a certain someone in Pakistan think?

Posted by: ISLAMSFORLOSERS [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 22, 2006 11:35 AM

I actually read this article while my son was getting his haircut.

The article touted Dubai as the "new, fun" place to shop in the Middle East.

All the hotties featured were wrapped in some version of the Grim Reaper uniform and all sported big, honkin' baubles, designer shoes and designer sunglasses.

What struck me was the this sand pit in the middle east was "the place" to buy what were obviously EUROPEAN and AMERICAN luxury items.

I didn't see any luxury arab/muslim designer products being featured unless the black "no name brand" tarp all the models were wearing WAS the arab/muslim contribution to the world of fashion and shopping.

The whole article left me wondering, "Why forsake shopping in Paris, London or Milan, were you can openly wear your miniskirt, thigh-high boots, blow-dried hair, etc, purchase products designed and crafted by fellow Westerners, to go shop in the desert wearing a tarp?"

The only thing you should shop for in Dubai is oil or natural gas.

We will see increasingly more of this as our media is influenced by Muslim money and power. What is going on here is an attempt to influence our view of what beauty is. Advertisers and Muslim propagandists both know that you can change people's views of what is beautiful and quite easily too. Throughout human history beauty has always been in the eye of the beholder. In certain south pacific islands (I forget which), being fat was considered to be beautiful. In China, foot binding to create small feet was considered beautiful. In Africa, there was a tribe that extended the length of their necks with rings and that was considered beautiful. Muslims know that people can be easily influenced in this regard. All they have to do is constantly portray hijab, abaya or burqa as being glamorous and beautiful and there are a lot of women and men out there who will buy into the idea. If you don't believe me, look at the history of fashion in the West. It wasn't too long ago women were having ribs removed in order to achieve the wasp thin waist that Victorian fashions required. And so it goes.

On the supermodel catwalk, they could have Religious Police follow the models with canes to beat them if their shoes make too much noise.

References:

Qur'an 24:31 "And let [women] not stamp their feet so as to reveal what they hide of their adornment."

A Muslim website comments: "If jewellery is worn around the ankles e.g. Anklets, which create noise and tend to attract men towards the tinkling sounds then this again is considered within the violations of Hijaab."

One Fatimid caliph of Egypt, Al-Hakim, ordered that women's heels be cut off so that they wouldn't make noise when they walked.

Women’s shoes that make noise, such as high heels, were illegal under the Taliban.

Those whores! All of them. Showing their faces like the prostitutes they are. This is what happens when good muslim women are contaminated with the filth from the west. Standing there in those anti-islamic provocative poses showing their faces for any man to see. It's disgusting. I have an overwhelming urge to beat those three sluts to a pulp. Islam can not be mocked in this manner. And it sets a dangerous example. If other women see this, they will want to show their faces, too. What kind of message does this send to the infidel women, who must also be dressed in accordance with islam if we are ever to be victorious?

O'lord, mighty mohammad, most high, smite them and bring them low.

especially concerned when a situation occurs which causes customers to

Mentat, you're right.

They want to change the idea of what is sexy and fashionable to include the abaya and other muslim clothes. That is frightening. Even christians don't tell you what clothes to wear.

Remember when shoulder pads were in, and every dress or jacket that you bought had them.

It made you look like an American football player, but you couldn't find dresses or jackets which didn't have them stitched into the shoulders. You had to wear them, or else take it to the seamstress and pay to have it removed.

What if they try to make muslim clothes look sexy and fashionable? This is their latest propaganda weapon.

It's the cultural aspect of Islam that frightens me more than just the terrorism and bombings.

Guys, we are seeing this all wrong. Just imagine if it became the next big thing in the West for winter.

We could have cowl neckline burka's, slit up the side burka's, it'd be funny to see the West sexualise the burka.

But agree, these pics are a joke. The only Muslim women who would be allowed to dress like that, could choose not to.

I also remember an article in Marie Claire long ago, in which they said that some states in the US were outlawing sex.

Intrigued, I bought the magazine, only to read that that lawmakers in the US were trying to prevent underage girls from marrying adult men.

I guess that shows what the values of Marie Claire are.

Posted by: StillFedUp

No, based on the statement you posted, they haven't backed down yet, and maybe they won't have to. Maybe I'm overly pessimistic but I expect them to issue an apology at some point. It depends on the laws, what can be proven, what the witnesses are willing to say and what the airline feels it must do to prevent the loss of income. (I'm sure there are other important factors, not the least of which are the political climate and the lobbying strength of Muslim groups.)

Posted by: Josephine [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 22, 2006 2:25 PM

It's the cultural aspect of Islam that frightens me more than just the terrorism and bombings.

This is what I have been saying since I discovered this forum. Terrorism is good. It makes them look bad. Da'wa is what we need to fear. For unlike terrorism, da'wa is legal. There's the rub.

At what point then is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us, it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide.
-Abraham Lincoln

Da'wa is what we are really fighting, but most people still think we are in a war against terrorism. Terrorism is a distraction. CAIR, and all the subsidiaries of islam in the west, are what we are really fighting. But Bush and most pundits think we are just fighting crimes, and not the overthrow of our civilization from within.

In a way, the 9/11 hijackings were a perfect analogy to this dichotomy. While we have tens of thousands of troops and personel overseas, and while we have aircraft carriers and fighter jets to protect us abroad, and while we have custom agents to watch the border, we had no one to protect the largest city in America. Prior to that morning, there was no military protection for Americans in America! No domestic flights were ever watched for erratic behavior. It took two impacts and an hour of terror before the first jets arrived on the scene. Then it was like closing the barn door after the horse had left.

We were so focused on external enemies in submarines, that we missed the internal enemy. We missed the muslims that were living and breathing amongst us, who flew on our domestic flights, who ate our food, slept in our hotels. So we, in essense, let 9/11 happen. All of our defences were external, looking for a threat that didn't even exist, while we left our own people completely undefended.

So it is like that today with da'wa. While our government is focused on terrorism, on terrorists, on bombs and guns, it has completely missed the internal menace - the islamic apologists, the facilitators, their lawyers, their advocacy groups, their imams, their clerics, their mosques, their charities, and all the infrastructure to turn our Christian society, into a muslim one.

Once again, those who are charged with being on guard, are not. They are looking in the wrong direction. Just like on 9/11, when our fighter jets were looking outward towards the seas, we were attacked inland by those we hosted. The same thing is happening again. We look outward for terrorists, but turn our back on the real threat, the real goal of bin laden et al: the islamization of America and the west.

Personally, I think Queen Raina of Jordan is one of the most beautiful women in the world.
It would be such a shame to put her in a burqua.
Come to think of it, there are many beautiful Arabic/Muslim women.
They often remind me of Italian women.
It must be something to do with the Mediterranean.

Posted by: Odyessus [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 22, 2006 2:33 PM

as an italian woman you have just offended me.

Rania has got an army of make up artists and crew, the average arab woman is ugly.

They say having the veil they are not forced to follow the western standards, which means they are fatty, hairy etc.

Plus all those veils contribute to bad smell.

Posted by: StillFedUp [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 22, 2006 2:44 PM

Those burqas seem a little tight for the Islamist crowd. I think those girls ought to be careful. They'll end up missing their black polished fingers when the thought police get through with them.

Also, isn't Marie Claire a French magazine? That wouyld explain a lot.

You are correct that so many, even some on this website, cannot see the real and absolute dangers of what is hidden below the surface of the iceberg.
The soft propaganda that advances stealthfully every day within our society and goes unnoticed or is deliberately hidden from view by our own western protagonists.
every time an act of terrorism occurs, it serves to focus public attention and hides the silent "dawa" from view.
The women should be wearing fashion accessory bomb belts woven in gold lacrame to highlight Islam contributions to world culture.

read this story:

I used to work with a blonde, blue eyed American woman who decided to convert to Islam right after 9/11/01. She immediately started wearing a head scarf “for modesty” she said. However, it struck me that the head covering (for modesty, remember) clashed with her skin tight Levi’s jeans, and her baby blue eye shadow makeup. When she first began working in my location, she was a staunch feminist who said she would never marry a man.

She also said she was ashamed to call herself an American. Then she became a Muslim and married a Muslim. He’s from “the middle-east” was all she would say about him. Soon after getting married, she stopped wearing her treasured Levi’s and eye shadow. One day, I overheard her arguing with her brother about a family gathering at her apartment. She told her brother that if his wife refused to wear “appropriate head wear” to the festivities, his wife could not attend. Her brother’s wife isn’t Muslim.

She let the cat out of the bag one day and told her mother over the phone that she became involved with Islam because she thought it was cool to be associated with the “underdog”. It was her way of “sticking it to the man”. Then one day, her husband decided to go back home to his own country. He expected her to go with him. She told her mother she was “real nervous” about leaving America and going to her husband’s homeland. She has since disappeared, and no one has heard anything from her. Well, so much for “being cool and sticking it to the man”.

---------------------------------

you have to be aware of these american people. I bet there are some like this one.

By the way, the photos were shot in Dubai, home of the new anti-Jew apartheid. No Israeli passports or passport stamps allowed (unless you're a Muslim, then it's okay). Not a peep from the libs that run Marie Claire.

StillFedUp - An interesting tale, and one that no doubt has become a little more common than it once was. Wonder what third world dung hill she's living on now? I've always found it hard to weep for folks who jump into cults, etc. I suppose that the man is now sticking it to her.

Posted by: MP [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 22, 2006 4:05 PM

I have mixed feelings about this magazine spread. On the one hand, I agree about the dangerous endorsement it gives to Islam - trying to make it hip.

On the other hand, I'm sure it's offensive to Muslims, and if it offends Islam, I like it.

A double edged sword...

StillFedUp:

Interesting story indeed. That stupid woman is a typical liberal. Wants to side with the "underdog" without actually THINKING about the underdog she is siding with. (LOL, Islam is an underDOG!) If she employed any discriminatory skills (Discrimination - a taboo word among liberals, but IS a function of the intellect) she might have not made her fatal mistake. If she's lucky she's just stuck in a Third World hellhole squeezing out a puppy (underDOG) a year. Or, if she's not so lucky, her husband sold her to the white sex slave ring because blonde haired blue eyed women are coveted there. Either way, I bet she's wishing she's back in the good ol' U.S.A...

The September issue of Marie Claire had an article about two hot chicks shopping for abayas in Dubai (or was it Qatar?). At one point, the author of the puff piece (what choice! what fashion!)wrote in all seriousness, "In a country where black is the new black..."

Uh, also the old black. Also your only fashion option--EVER.

The writer laboured--to no avail, I might add--to show us how there's no compulsion in fashion.

I've seen Muslim women all covered up but wearing expensive brand name shoes and their children dressed in expensive clothing with logos. I've always wondered, where's the modesty in that?

To me, true modesty would be buying (non-slutty) clothing on sale and giving the difference to charity.

Champ,

You can tell the difference between the two Hefty bags by their handles. One is the 1.1 mil thick version for thicker girls (and landscaping refuse, like autumn leaves or big thick stumps) and the .83 mil version for smaller girls (and shredded office document paper.) Both are very, very sexy.

Stay tuned for the next version of Garbage Bags Gone Wild!

Champ,

Whatever do you mean? I am deadly serious. ;)

Easier cleanup after the honor killing...no fuss, no muss...by the way, I posted a derogatory post earlier about Aisha, but was reflecting on it...we've all heard the stories of her cleaning his filth. I can't imagine the sheer Hell that she lived through forced to have, as they used to say, "congress" with Mo, and having the "seal of the prophet" aka a huge hairy mole, staring at her, Kuato-like.

I love the ladies who post here-they have a great sense of humor. I'm glad they're on our side rather than being trapped in those "Glad bags". Imagine what we'd be missing at this site.

Makes me wonder if the wearers of such crap would be just as great had it not been for mindwrecking Islam. Such a waste.

Isabella -- well if that's true, then maybe I can get my order in early before next summer; since summer is when I will want to wear these gawd-awful-getups so I can stay cool and comfortable. I'll take one in black, another in black, and what the heck, two more in....ummmm.....what was the other color choice? Oh yea, black.

The joke may be on us, as this may not be a burqa-beauty contest, but a sunglasses ad.

Okay Champ,

I will admit that a burqa might be tempting on summer days when I've eaten too much ice cream, but because of what it symbolises, I wouldn't be caught dead in one. On second thought, that's the ONLY way you'd catch me in one.

I do have a good friend who's surname growing up was Burke and we decided that maybe we could make some money on line with either Burke's Burqas or MyBurqa.com. You don't have to worry about tan lines, you can eat like a pig and no one will be the wiser. But we were thinking about doing them in neon colors, and patterns like paisley or houndstooth.

That was only when I first started studying here. Now I see this as such a hated symbol of oppression and also denial of the true God that I will fight to the death not to wear one and not to have any of my friends, family or countrywomen be forced to wear one. Right now as I cut up veggies for tomorrows Thanksgiving feast and listen to the Christmas music on my local radio station, I remember what we are fighting for. We are fighting for pumpkin pie and Christmas carols but more importantly, we are fighting for the preservation of our own culture and traditions and the ability to wish a neighbor a Happy Thanksgiving or a Merry Christmas, to be compassionate when the situation arises and not to be forced to adhere to a belief system that could potentially destroy our neighbor and to make us vulnerable to committing crimes against humanity. I don't want my kids and later on, my grandkids, to have to make that choice. So I have to say no to the burqa, because it is a shining symbol of what we will lose and what will be required of us if we lose, this most important of battles.

On a lighter note, Galloglass Warrior, I am revising my above post to include a super absorbent hefty bag so that when you have one of those pesky honor killings you can clean it up in one fell swoop, no fuss, no muss and it even turns into it's own....(drum roll)...trashbag for easier disposal! How about, ilovemyburqa.com?!

Blue is too angelic for Muslims -- whereas black helps maintain that Satanic-cult look.

That woman on the right would be flogged in Saudi Arabia for exposing that provocative ankle.
