Benedict XVI meets with president of Cyprus at Vatican

May it lead to his speaking against these crimes. From The Associated Press, with thanks to Andrew Bostom:

VATICAN CITY: Pope Benedict XVI held a private audience Friday with Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos, who gave the pontiff an album of photographs of destroyed churches in northern Cyprus under the Turkish occupation.

After Benedict welcomed the Cypriot at the entrance to his library in the Apostolic Palace, the president showed the leather-bound album to the pontiff, who looked upset as he leafed through the pages. Some the pictures showed churches reduced to rubble, while others had been converted to restaurants, shops or other secular uses.

"Such destruction ... incredible," Benedict uttered, according to pool reporters who covered the greeting before the pontiff and the president began their private talks.

A Vatican statement singled out "with satisfaction" that Catholics on the island enjoy religious freedom. The Greek Cypriot population of Cyprus is largely Orthodox.

"The pope was very upset and expressed feelings of deep concern," Papadopoulos later said of Benedict's reaction to the photographs. "We all know his concern and deep interest in the preservation of churches and freedom of religion."

In Northern Cyprus, Ahmet Okan, adviser to Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat on political and cultural issues, said that while there were destroyed and converted churches on the Turkish side there were also several destroyed Ottoman Turkish buildings in the south. In a telephone conversation with The Associated Press, he contended that Turkish Cypriot calls for joint projects to restore Christian and Ottoman buildings were constantly being rebuffed by the Greek Cypriots.

Sure.

There are another two photographs the Pope should
see , those of the beheaded Christian girls in
Indonesia.
They should be on the front page of every newspaper in the world , that would send Islam
back to where it belongs...history!

Pope Benedict has refused Minister Of Foreign Affairs Abdullah Gül's dinner invitation after NATO meeting, stating that eating is a "mundane pleasure."

During the Pope's Turkey visit between November 28 and December 1st, Prime Minister Erdoğan and Minister of Foreign Affairs Gül will be in Latvia for the NATO meeting. Due to this inconvenience Abdullah Gül has requested a later meeting (a dinner)with the Pope.
It was learned that Pope Benedict has refused Gül's suggestion stating that eating is a mundane pleasure.

Trust me on this the only 'joint projects' that muslims on Cyprus are interested in is bringing more muslims and for the rest of the EU to let them. Fascinating isnt it how after the 1974 invasion of northern cyprus the local muslim population went from 3000 to over 100, 000 within a short period? Thats because back in the fatherland the local Turkish govt (agaisnt EU protests) touted northern cyprus as a land of opportunity and encouraged local muslims to move in there with promises of free land and buildings (yeah that of the nonmuslim Greeks christians they drove out). honestly do you think Turkey would have invaded that area if Greece was a fellow muslim nation? I doubt it because then the muslim world would have complained (like it did to George Bush Sr in the Kuwait invasion by Saddam ) and then the free world AND the muslim nations (ie Egypt, Syria sent airplanes etc) helped in the first gulf war it was far from being 'america alone' in that first one. (Not to diverge: but in this one EU should get off their butts and send in troops to help USA right now in Iraq with massive troop support (yes yes I know the EU is asleep right now)--the ALLIEs will all wake up and work together as they did in WWII but hopefully it wont take many more islamic attacks on Europe for them to figure it out. )

If I were the Pope, I'd be scared to eat.

Also Patrairch gave His Holiness the Pope a photo book of all the christian churches now converted by muslims --and that book should that some of those churches are bars and nightclubs now. You dont think the muslims did that on purppose as a sign of what they think of Christian belief? Of course many others were converted into other buildings.

As Muhammed said when you get the 'booty' of war you have to split it fairly among the muslim brethern.

What a spiritual people them muslims.

a few booty of war verses:
Translations of the Qur'an, Chapter 8:
AL-ANFAL (SPOILS OF WAR, BOOTY)

008.001
YUSUFALI: They ask thee concerning (things taken as) spoils of war. Say: "(such) spoils are at the disposal of Allah and the Messenger: So fear Allah, and keep straight the relations between yourselves: Obey Allah and His Messenger, if ye do believe."
PICKTHAL: They ask thee (O Muhammad) of the spoils of war. Say: The spoils of war belong to Allah and the messenger, so keep your duty to Allah, and adjust the matter of your difference, and obey Allah and His messenger, if ye are (true) believers.
SHAKIR: They ask you about the windfalls. Say: The windfalls are for Allah and the Messenger. So be careful of (your duty to) Allah and SET ARIGHT matters of your difference, and obey Allah and His Messenger if you are believers.

yep I know the govt of Turkey is supposed to be 'secular' but they follow muslim rules for division as shown by the effiencey they divided the captured land and buildings and put in their own people to take over. They 'divided it aright' as good little muslims.

FREEWOMAN good point the govt might welcome him but the people 'love' His Holiness the Pope. Can you feel the love? Muslims fear the Roman Catholic church more than any other I believe. Because its organized and conservative and nonmuslim. And Pope Benedict XVI is a good man. I do not for a minute believe this highly educated godly man does not 'get it'. I bet he does and him and the Patriarch are going to be discussing alot behind closed doors about Islam and its evil doings in the world today and what they should be doing about it.

Allies, I believe the only reason he is being "welcomed", is so they can look civilized to the rest of the world.

It's a front. We know where islam is concerned, there is no civilization.

There may very well have been Turkish calls for joint projects that were rejected by the Greeks, but I suspect that there were some unpalatable conditions attached to those calls that Okan is intentionally forgetting to mention. That, and such joint projects are no doubt an excuse for further Islamic encroachment on Cyprus.

Allies~

Remember, Pope Bendict did inherit all of Oriana Fallaci's notes and manuscripts. That act says a lot about her, as well as the Catholic Church.

TO S

And I hope he is re-reading them all. Actually the Pope is a highly educated man. I heard he has made it a point to read the entire Qur'an and Hadith. That'll do it. If you read that stuff Islams "peacefulness" will shine right through ---not.

As a greek Cypriot I am glad the pope has noticed what turkey has done to the churches in cyprus but thats not all they done they killed 6000 greeks and raped thousands of women and forced out 20,000 greek Cypriots from there homes.

my parents in the 70s where forced out of there homes my dad was prisoned by turks but he escaped from the help of the red cross. my dads home now is occupied by illegal turk Settlers from Turkey those settlers did not live in Cyprus they came from turkey after 1974 to live in my dads home after the turks had cleansed the north of Greeks i dont think my dad will get his home back now it makes me mad when i went to visit my parents old villages it made me mad to see those vermin there my grandmothers and mums home was turned to a barn. but while the pope seems sympathetic unfortunately the west seems to be so pro turkey only leaders i think are waking up is jack chirac and angela merkal who have critised turkey over Cyprus and say they should not join EU

by the way one of the monastrys in Cyprus which turkey is talking about helping to restore is apostolos Andreas my dad use to work in that monastry before the Turkish invasion happened

Apostolos Andreas monastry is holy becuase Below the monastry steps lead down to a square, vaulted chapel, three baptismal basins fed by a sacred spring and an old wharf was on this site that it was said St. Andreas briefly landed in Cyprus on his final missionary journey His footfall revealed a spring whose waters miraculously healed the blind captain of his ship.

The reason greek cypriots do not want Turkey to restore some of the building is becuase such developments are aimed at destroying the character of a highly important religious and cultural landmark of Cyprus any unauthorized alterations to this historic religious site that disregard the restoration plans already undertaken by the Church of Cyprus, which is the lawful owner of the Monastery, will not only destroy its cultural and religious character but will also endanger the rest of the building.

i have visited apostolos andreas 2 years and its not being looked after by the turks the roof of the monastry is damaged. the turks are using the place to make money they open up market stalls outside it as lots of greek visitors go there and they also charge visitors money to use the toilet of the monastry but when me and my dad visited it we refused to pay my dad even threatened to hit the turk who tried to charge him he told the turk its not your monastry you have no right to charge people for using the toilets and he siad if no women where around he would have hit him the turk just replied he was doing his job

I wouldn't celebrate this yet.

The Pope is on our side, we knew that from the moment he quoted the good Emperor Manuel II and got attacked by the Muslims and PC Leftist crowds, however today I just don't see how much that means since the only country the Pope has high influence in is Poland.

That says I am really glad that he has been made aware of the fact that Turks acted just like Turks in Cyprus.
