As El Presidente of Slapstick Politics says, Break out the riot gear. But this time it could be not only Muslims rioting, but outraged Eurodhimmis.
"Vatican enters Muslim veil debate," by David Willey for BBC News:
Cardinal Renato Martino said immigrants must respect the traditions, culture and religion of the nations they go to.They ought to abide by local laws banning the wearing of certain types of Muslim veils, he added.
"It seems elementary to me and it is quite right that the authorities demand it," said Cardinal Martino, who heads the Vatican department dealing with migration issues.

I am currently reading Orianna Fallaci, 'Force of Reason.' By her report, muslims have been demanding just the opposite in Europe for nearly 30 years. And the Left is whom Ori lays the greatest share of the blame upon (although she does include the nearly-defunct Right and the Catholic Church in her assessment, and I agree (but not with Christianophobes like nariz).
As an OT- Seeing as the Democrats are clearly siding with islam, I have to wonder: do they REALLY want the US to be energy independant? Because keeping the US beholden to islamic-held oil reigns, will keep the muslim vote coming their way.
Just a thought.

cardinal, it seems elementary to you but it's like rocket science to muslims

This is not a new plea. It has been made, more or less, for the past 1350 years -- by people who were then killed or suppressed into permanent silence. Their names by the tens of millions, their silent endurance, their here-and-there attempts to overthrow the Muslim yoke about which so little is known (Muslim rulers kept no records, and destroyed those that existed, of non-Muslims under their rule)-- all hard to imagine, harder not to imagine.
But at the moment, still, the non-Muslim world can save itself, can make its own future more rather than horribly less secure.
Why doesn't it?

When a landing force is sent onto an enemy beach; the land defenses are ‘softened-up’ with naval gunfire for a week or so before landing.
Perhaps the Vatican is instead looking to ‘rile-up’ the Turkish population ahead of the Pope’s visit to achieve the desired effect of chaos for the cameras. The Pope is a brave man.

Wow great question Hugh. I think the why not is as simple as numbers. What I mean is, I think the majority of muslims really do want us destroyed not the small minority we always hear about. It is far easier to reverse a trend when the numbers are favorable to you. The numbers are against us and the sharks are starting to group and will circle soon.

Muslims should respect traditions, culture and religion of the nations they go to.
---------------
Wonderful idea!
I've got a similar good idea:
Criminals should not commit crimes.
It's all so easy. In what a wonderful world would we live, if finally Vatican officials just called for that. But wait!
Criminals would not be criminals if the didn't commit crimes, would they???
And Muslims would not be Muslims, if they respected traditions, culture and religion of anyone non-Muslim.

Thats right muslims should respect christians why its COMMANDED IN THE QURAN muslims to respect christians and jews. Yes yes its here somewhere...hmm.. here we go!... under respect for christians and jews in the quran yes yes:
-------------------
Qur'an quotes:
Surely the vilest of animals in Allah's sight are those who disbelieve (8:55)
"Fight those who do not believe in Allah...And the Jews say Ezra is the son of God; and the Christians say Christ is the son of God; these are the words of their mouths; they imitate the saying of those who disbelieved before; Allah's curse be on them; how they are turned away!" (Koran 9:29-30)
And fight with them until there is no more persecution and RELIGION SHOULD BE ONLY for Allah (8:39)
When the sacred months have passed away, THEN SLAY THE IDOLATERS WHEREVER YOU FIND THEM, AND TAKE THEM CAPTIVES AND BESIEGE THEM AND LIE IN WAIT FOR THEM IN EVERY AMBUSH, then if they repent and keep up prayer [become believers] and pay the poor-rate, leave their way free to them (9:5)
And if they intend to act unfaithfully towards you, so indeed they acted unfaithfully towards Allah before, but He GAVE YOU MASTERY OVER THEM (8:71)
-------------------
er wait ...scratch that....

You cannot fit a square peg into a round hole, so why is the cardinal expecting polite behavior from animals?

Muslims are going to other nations as invaders, like the Huns, the Tartars or the Vandals.
Why should they respect any local tradition?

"But at the moment, still, the non-Muslim world can save itself, can make its own future more rather than horribly less secure.
Why doesn't it? "
Why? Because they know how to use against us the fundamental values we hold dear, such as tolerance, freedom of expression, freedom of religion, liberty, fair trial, racial equality, human rights.
Because we fear that we can't oppose them without destroying those values.
That's why immigration control is so important: citizens have all these rights in our civilised countries, even if they use them to undermine our system. So we can't afford to allow such people to become citizens in the first place.
