Isn't this just typical! This person is using the very freedoms of Britain, the very tolerance of the average British person - the very 'wear-what-you-want' tolerance, to undermine our society and to try to make us all look like intolerant bigots.

She has quite deliberateley pushed the limits on spurious religious grounds in an attempt to make we free westerners, in our own country, look as if we are in some sense oppressing her. This is quite intolerable.

A tiny minority, an extremely tiny minority - so small a minority that one could almost, but not quite, count its members on the fingers of your hands, of moslem women in the UK wear the niqab. Because they are such a tiny minority it cannot possibly be regarded as 'modest' dress in twenty-first century Britain. It draws, and probably quite deliberately, attention to the fact that its wearer is female and says something about the state of desire that they, the wearers, hope to arouse in the average male.

But they fail to arouse desire at all. They, the wearers of this ridiculous face covering, do so not out of a feeling that they are dressing 'modestly' but out of a determination to impose their moslem will upon our society. By dressing in this way they hope to provoke a reaction from western males. This, thank the true God, they have failed to do. There is not one single incident of sexual assault against a moslem veiled woman in the UK apart from those incidents where moslem men have been involved.

I believe, however, that there are many incidents of laughter at the stance that these veiled women have chosen to adopt and I understand that the veiled are usually turned away from all sorts of events and venues. I'll check this and see if I can provide 'www' references.

USBeast, my understanding is that she attended her interview without a veil, knowing full well that she would not have got the job if she had been veiled. If this is true, it is about the same as falsifying her CV, and she should have been fired for that alone.

As for hiring the Azmi woman, it is a requirement that ALL public bodies hire in accordance with the ethnic mix in the area and submit reports to the Home Office to meet targets..............Dewsbury is largely Muslim as is the Church of England School, that is the nature of some Northern cities which had textile industries.

I did not catch the details but it was not the prosecution but the length of the sentence and that it was National News that I was commenting on. Do you not think that being "Bound over to keep the peace" or in the extreme cases with actual physical assault, 6 months jail is more usual for this kind of offence?

When the jails are bursting at the seams with dangerous offenders it tells us something about government priorities. Anti-social behaviour happens between people all the time. If the state gets involved on this scale it tells us the situation is serious.

The inspectors, who visited in March last year, said the over-emphasis on religion meant secular studies were neglected.

Miss Azmi's father responded at the time by telling the Times Educational Supplement: 'Parents send their children here for an Islamic education. They don't want their sons to take exams.'

A spokesman for the mosque said yesterday: 'He is not the headmaster any more. I cannot pass on his details to you. The spokesman insisted the mosque had no links to Islamic extremism, adding: 'We do not create those sorts of people.

'We are an organisation that offers information to Muslims on how to reform themselves.'

Yesterday a Muslim Labour MP urged Miss Azmi to drop the appeal she is planning after losing her legal battle to wear a face veil in class.

I'm confused.

She was suspended with full pay as of February. This is not uncommon in a unionized workplace when an investigation is being made. (I think it has everything to do with politics and how powerful the union is.)

For some unknown reason, her one-year contract was renewed for another year in August despite her suspension. That's stupid. Why would they do that? Was it done automatically? Wouldn't she have had to re-apply? Did she re-apply? I wouldn't put it past her.

Then they had a meeting this month and fired her. Are they going to keep paying her even after she's been fired? Do they have to give her severance pay until August 2007?

She was barely intelligible during that TV interview. I still laugh when I remember her statement, "I'm perfect at my job."
