If he can, it will be just another indication of a phenomenon we have noted here before: the complete abdication of responsibility of the political mainstream to deal adequately with questions of Sharia supremacism and Muslim immigration. From AFP, with thanks to Fjordman:
PARIS, Jan 8, 2007 (AFP) - France's veteran far-right leader Jean-Marie Le Pen on Monday predicted that he will again qualify for the second round of the country's approaching elections, but said that this time he could actually be voted president. In a New Year message to the press, the 78 year-old National Front (FN) chief said that divisions in the ruling Union for a Popular Movement (UMP) will pull him ahead of the right-wing candidate Nicolas Sarkozy and result in a two-way decider against the Socialist Segolene Royal.
"As in 2002 I will probably be in the second round of the presidential election. But unlike in 2002, this time I can win the election, because I will probably be facing a candidate of the left, which will at least offer voters the choice between two radically different alternatives," he said.

While one might welcome such a person as a strong antidhimmi, he is one to throw the baby out with the bathwater.. Still Europe needs a little backbone and maybe he would break the back of the Gaulists. My only concern would about the other minorities.

Maybe I will eat humble pie, but if it is him against Royal then Royal will win. I may not agree with Sarkozy in certain key areas, but at least he is the best of a throughly sad and useless lot and I am concerned that he will not make the second round.

The way things are going with wishy washy Western leaders who are democratic it seems the only ones who might effectively counter the jihadist scum will be the far right and the far left dictatorial types-the former for the West, the latter for China. This is not a good thing but if I had to choose between Le Pen and a stooge for Pierre Laval Chirac I'd go with Le Pen, warts and all.

Well, you're right: it's because mainstream politicians are avoiding the issues that people like Le Pen become viable candidates. He was the only one to stand up for the Jews when they were being attacked: how racist could he be?

Le Pen warned about the mess France is in now decades ago, most people didn't believe him and again and again it turned out he was right about everything he said, same goes for other rightwinged and or extreme rightwinged party's in other lands, everytime they where right, even 30 years ago, and still the lefties say they lie, but the lefties are the ones who are again and again and again wrong!
