Islamic Tolerance Alert. "Jews flee homes after Muslim death threats," by Aaron Klein for World Net Daily, with thanks to Kemaste:
JERUSALEM – Many of Yemen's Jews this weekend fled their homes for a hotel after receiving death threats from Islamic militants accusing the country's tiny Jewish community of serving as agents for "global Zionism."
The Jews said they feared for their lives. It was disclosed they had been forced to pay special taxes that Islam imposes on Jews and Christians in return for protection and security.
That would be the jizya tax, of course, per Qur'an 9:29.
About 45 Jews left their village in Sa'ada county in Yemen after Dawoud Yousuf Mousa, one of the heads of the local Jewish community, was warned Jan. 10 if the Jews don't leave within 10 days they would be exposed to killings, abductions and looting.
Four masked militants approached Mousa and delivered a letter to him warning the Jewish community had been under Islamic surveillance.
"After accurate surveillance over the Jews residing in Al Haid, it has become clear to us that they were doing things which serve mainly global Zionism, which seeks to corrupt the people and distance them from their principles, their values, their morals, and their religion," the letter stated.
"Islam calls upon us to fight against the disseminators of decay," the letter said.
The threats have been attributed to disciples of Shiite religious leader Hossein Bader a-Din al-Khouty.
Mousa reportedly told local authorities the militants told him if the Jews don't flee within 10 days "the Jewish community would bear the consequences."
According to a recent Yemeni immigrant to Israel with contacts in Sa'ada, the Jewish community there received another letter Friday warning, "whoever remains at his home, will be killed or his children will be taken away."
Sa'ada's Jewish community had lived in the village for generations.
They were forced to evacuate their homes and leave some of their possessions with local sheiks.
The displaced Jews are staying at a hotel in the center of Sa'ada, where they have been petitioning local authorities for protection. The Yemen Jews say the government has refused to offer assistance other than to temporarily pay for the hotel stays.
The Jews reportedly spoke of long-term Muslim intimidation and of having to pay special taxes because they were Jewish.
Salem Al Wehayshi, Sadaa deputy governor, told the Gulf News agency the Jews are being asked to go home.
"Yes, they received threats from Al Houthi supporters. They are now here in the hotel but I can assure you that the problem will be solved today, and they will return to their villages," Wehayshi said.
The Jewish community in Yemen consists of several hundred members. According to recent immigrants to Israel, the Yemeni Jews don't want to leave their country.
Yemen's Jews have faced persecution since Israel's establishment in 1948. After the declaration of the Jewish state, Muslim rioters killed 81 Jews in Aden, a large Yemeni city, and destroyed many Jewish cities.
Most of Yemen's Jews were evacuated to Israel in Operation Magic Carpet, a series of semi-secret airlifts between June 1949 and September 1950 that brought 45,000 to the Jewish state with the assistance of Britain and the U.S.
A smaller, continuous migration was allowed to continue until 1962, when a civil war in Yemen put an abrupt halt to any further Jewish exodus. Several thousand Jews remained.
Then in the early 1990s, after years of petitioning by a group led by a professor at New York's Yeshiva University, most of the rest of Yemen's Jews were brought to Israel, except the few hundred who decided to stay in Yemen.

This is exactly the kind of treatment you can expect when Islam takes over your neighborhood..

The displaced Jews are staying at a hotel in the center of Sa'ada, where they have been petitioning local authorities for protection. The Yemen Jews say the government has refused to offer assistance other than to temporarily pay for the hotel stays.I guess we'll soon see how much this Jizya tax (i.e., extortion) really is worth. So far it looks like the only actual "protection" they are going to get is denial that there is any threat.
My guess is that the Jews will be cajoled and threatened or reassured until they go back to their homes, half of them will be slaughtered overnight by these "vigilantes", and the authorities will either:
(a) deny that there was any slaughter, that they died of "natural causes", or killed each other in a drunken brawl, or committed mass suicide, hoping to perpetuate the "myth" that Muslims are violent toward minorities under their "protection"
(b) admit that there was a slaughter, carried out by unidentified vigilantes who they were unable to identify and somehow elude capture, but whom they condemn in the strongest terms
or
(c) admit there was a slaughter and point to some minor grumbling among the jewish community that could be spun as an insult to Islam -- thereby the Jews had violated the jizya treaty and had been rightfully punished for heresy or treason.
Frankly, why bother even giving a reason? They can probably get away with this and thumb their noses at the west...but of course they need to prove to the Ummah abroad that their actions were IC...
...Islamically Correct, that is.
I'd say, get the Jews out now, and file a suit in international court to have all the Jizya ever paid by that community returned to the survivors because of breach of contract by the Yemeni government. Let's stop fooling around with people's lives at stake.

Obviously George, we need to increase our arms shipments to Hizbualla and Hamas. I suggest that you give them another $240 million dollars to cover these costs.
No don't worry George, the American taxpayers will shell out the cash and never ask questions.

There are Jews in Yemen?

"Yemen's Jews have faced persecution since Israel's establishment in 1948. " - From the article above.
This is in fact more than not true. Yemen's Jews have been persecuted since times immemorial.
I myself met an old Yemenite Jewish lady who is still living today, who as a child had to be hidden by her relatives, because she was orphaned. By Yemenite custom, orphaned Jewish children were foribly taken away as slaves by the Arabs. This horrifying treatment of minorities is something that fits well with Islamic ideology. As the father of this poor Jewish lady had died when she was a child, she normally would become the property of the local Muslim Arab Sheikh. She was only able to avoid this fate at great danger and risk. She told me the Arabs would often come looking for her and her siblings and thus they grew up terrified and hiding. I'm estimating this lady was born about late 1920's. What this lady related as a fact about her youth in Yemen happened about 20 years before Israel's establishment. I believe Bat Y'eor has also written some harrowing stories about treatment of Jews in Muslim countires, and the gruelsome treatment of Jews (as well as of other minorities or even majorities of indiginous populations conquored by Muslims) occured already and throughout centuries before the establishment of Israel in 1948.

I guess the jizya just does not generate enough income. How long before Yemen is Juden-rein?

"The threats have been attributed to disciples of Shiite religious leader Hossein Bader a-Din al-Khouty"
If Israel had leaders with cojones (instead of Dhimmert) they'd send a Mossad team into Yemen and kill Al-Khouty and everybody with him. This would send the message to the rest of the Yemenis: "Mess with the Jews and you die!"

Tens of thousands of Yemeni Jews were taken, in 1951, from their slavery (there is no other word for it) in Yemen to Israel. This was known as Operation Magic Carpet. In Yemen, they were forced into the most filthy and demeaning of occupations: cleaning the privies of the Muslims, for example, was a "Jewish" task.
One student of life in the Yemen, R. S. Serjeant, wrote about Yemen earlier in the century, and of how Jews were kept as slaves by Arab tribes. He recounted how, if a Jew who "belonged" to Arab Tribe A was killed by an Arab belonging to Arab Tribe B, then an Arab of Arab Tribe A could, in order to avenge the killing, kill a Jew who "belonged" to an Arab in Arab Tribe B. That was life, and death, for the Jews of Yemen.

When I was a young girl
I danced the Camel Dance
of the Yemini Jews
to plaintive eastern music,
our movements were
rolling and smooth.

The Yemini Jews have been abused,
for too many years, they've been slaves
of the prophet, his god and his nation.
They must be lovingly brought back to reality.

This is another of many examples of minorities, even small, completely non-threatening minorities, being wipes out in "Islamic" countries. Of course, if a reporter from the New York Times happened upon this situation, the reporter would seek out a Yemeni Jew who would reassure the reporter that the Jews were just looking for better job opportunities. The lie must always continue....Islam is the religion of peace, kind and tolerant to all who come in contact with it. Oh Naseem!!!!! Where are you???? What do you have to say about this story of hatred and terror by your fellow ROPers??

There is a useful site - even though its snapshot is now six years old - at:

although I daresay that the uncivilised moslems will say that it is biased - who cares. Read it and assess it for yourself.

The British in Aden also had problems with the Jewish community there. During the 19th century there existed within the leaders and most of the people in the Aden Jewish community traditional thought patterns that sought to preserve the current lifestyle.
At the head of the community stood, for decades, a conservative and aggressive leadership, the family of Rabbi Menahem Moshe (Misa). The head of the family, and of the community, president Benin, did not permit, either due to conservatism or due to fear of losing his status, change in many areas, particularly in education.
The president did not take note of the criticism against the degenerate traditional education – neither criticism coming from visitors nor criticism coming from some of the community members. As a consequence, the Jews of Aden remained with no modern education throughout the 19th century.
About the all-powerful and wealthy president Benin the writer Mahalel from Aden said in his book "Between Aden and Yemen": "the president rules the Aden [jewish] community unrestrained, his word is like a King’s word and his leadership like an army general’s leadership, he screams and shouts and overcomes his opponents".
Therefore, it should be clear that any proposal for change, particularly in Education or enlightenment, sought by external factors (such as various envoys visiting Aden) was thrown out by the community itself - since "A tradition should be preserved and be sacred to the entire community." It is not surprising that under these circumstances of total control no significant oppositional forces arose to challenge the authority of the Misa family.
Faint criticism of the educational system in the Jewish community of Aden, if spoken by internal Jewish people and groups, was low key and flatly rejected by the leadership. This factor joined another internal factor – the resistance of the Aden Jewish community towards change coupled with their reserved manners - and so, adds the writer Mahalel, his people "are tied up in their traditions which isolate them in life. They refrain from change in their prayer, commerce and work."
It was extremely difficult for the British administration to make any headway amongst the Jews of Yemen and the Aden Protectorate. It was almost as if they didn't even want to help themselves so conditioned had they become to a life of servitude to the barbarian moslem. They had, in other words, been thoroughly dhimmified.
For a fuller explanation see:
http://www.jewishmag.com/106mag/yemen/yemen.htm
which, despite the restraint of the language, conveys, at least for me, a powerful and emotional message. The 'magic carpet' came not a moment too soon - but it also destroyed a way of life and left many Yemeni Jews feeling that they had no place in the Jewish community. The way that the Yemeni immigrants were treated in Israel is not to Israel's credit and redounds badly upon the Ashkenazim and the Sephardim to this day.
The situation for the few remaining Jews in the Aden Protectorate was made worse, much worse, by the lack of support from the USA for the British peace keeping in the civil war of 1965-1967. It is generally reckoned that three-quarters of the remaining Jewish population were murdered in the four weeks after the British were forced to withdraw after the USA administration privately threatened to invoke sanctions against the UK unless they did so withdraw. The loss of life to the murderous Communists after the British forced withdrawal was truly staggering - it is estimated that some 75% of the population were murdered in the three years following the UK's withdrawal. The Communist government which resulted from our withdrawal has been reckoned to be one of the most murderous and genocidal that the world has ever seen. Huge mass burial sites are being unearthed to this day in the deserts north and east of Aden.
And all this for the want of a little resolution by the world's foremost democracy. But no, loathing of the British Empire was placed ahead of freedom and human rights. And you wonder why some British people to this day don't like the USA.
Dominic.

What don't these stupid Yemenite Jews get? I mean isn't the Middle East the natural, exclusive preserve of Muslims, and, instead of taking land from the innocent Palestinians, they should give the Jews a piece of Europe or California?
/sarcasm
One thing I do object to in this story is the description of Yemen's Jews as having been there "for generations". Some of them have been there for milenia, not generations; others likely came a few centuries ago when Wahabbism purged the last vestige of Jewish life from what is now called Saudi Arabia.
And the story of Yemen's Jewish population was replicated all over the Gulf, the Levant and North Africa. The establishment of the State of Israel was not the triggering event of what has been described by French Jewish documentarian Pierre Rehov as "the Silent Exodus". It was a convenient excuse to justify extreme persecution of a faith community to the point of extinction.

At one time just prior to 1977 there were 56,000 jews in Yemen, now there are less than 50 families.and just what happened to all these people?
"Very simple - they converted to Islam. Because of uncaring behavior on the part of the officials in Israel"
It seems they wanted to go to Israel, but Israel refused to take them..,
