Ban Ki-Moon demonstrates a muddle-headedness and coddling of Palestinian jihad terror worthy of Kofi Annan. It's unconscionable that there should even be a United Nations Seminar on Assistance to the Palestinian People -- a people that has again and again demonstrated an interest only in bloodshed. Where is the United Nations Seminar on Assistance to the Israeli People?
A UN press release (thanks to D.):
Following is UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s message to the United Nations Seminar on Assistance to the Palestinian People, delivered by Angela Kane, Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs, in Doha, 5 February:It is a pleasure to send greetings to the participants in this United Nations Seminar on Assistance to the Palestinian People, held under the auspices of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People.
[..]
Notwithstanding this violence, what has been a rather dark political landscape, has been brightened somewhat by a number of recent developments. Last Friday, the Quartet agreed on the need to revive Israeli-Palestinian negotiations and to re-energize its own efforts. Direct dialogue has resumed between the Israeli and Palestinian leaders, and the understandings between them have begun to be implemented. It is vital to build on these steps with a credible political process that is supported by the world community. We must all focus on resolving the conflict and on improving the socio-economic situation, not merely managing its inevitable crises.
Here he assumes, as does almost everyone, that "socio-economic" remedies will end the jihad. If the Palestinians weren't poor, presumably, they would not be trying to destroy Israel. Well, of course they aren't poor, or needn't be, as billions of dollars pour into the Palestinian Authority from all kinds of sources, with or without the aid from Israel he goes on to discuss; but this money is devoted to warfare instead of infrastructure and development. Go read the Hamas Charter, and tell me if you think this organization will consider its goals fulfilled by a two-state solution, or by a large infusion of cash.
Ban Ki-Moon goes on to say:
Both sides will measure any progress by its impact on their daily lives and by its ability to propel the parties towards an end to their conflict through a two-State solution. Without bold steps to guarantee security of the Palestinian and Israeli civilian populations and without tangible measures that will enable the Palestinians to lead a normal economic and social life, the political process will not succeed.
How does he propose to do this, when the Palestinian culture of jihad militarism tends in exactly the opposite direction?
Note also that while he pays lip service to guaranteeing security of Israeli as well as Palestinian civilians, he is mainly concerned with the Palestinians, with no apparent understanding of the fact that if the Palestinians would accept any peaceful solution, there would have been peace there decades ago:
That is why I am very alarmed by the precarious state of the Palestinian economy and the serious humanitarian emergency in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. Israeli military operations, restrictions on movement, border closures and the withholding of large parts of Palestinian tax revenues -- which make up almost half of all Palestinian revenue -- continue to have a devastating effect. Continued settlement activity, as well as barrier construction despite the provisions of international law, further complicate Palestinian life, as well as efforts to achieve a two-State solution. Internal Palestinian tensions are further compounding an already dismal situation.Israel’s recent release of some of the withheld tax revenues was a welcome step, and I urge Israel to take further steps in this direction without delay. Equally important will be the lifting of all restrictions on the movement of goods and people, in order to breathe life into the Palestinian economy.
And who cares how many Israelis get blown up in buses and restaurants?
Recent improvements at the Karni crossing are, again, a good first step in the right direction. The Palestinians, for their part, must take firm steps to cease rocket fire and other indiscriminate attacks against Israeli civilians.
Not "they must cease," but "they must take firm steps to cease."
For that to happen, it will be essential for the Palestinians to resolve their internal differences by peaceful means and seek national unity.A concerted effort by the international community, including donor countries, will be crucial. The United Nations has substantially increased its efforts to provide humanitarian assistance to the Palestinians, but this, by itself, cannot offset the continuing deterioration of the situation. I appeal to all international donors to be generous and step up their efforts at delivering emergency and other forms of assistance to the Palestinians people. The various United Nations entities on the ground will, at the same time, continue to do their important work in order to alleviate hardships for the Palestinian population.
They're murdering each other! Give them more money!
By the light of Ban Ki-Moon, that will solve the problem. Others are not so unrealistic.

I have great hopes for Ban Ki Moon. No one can be possibly be as stupid, vile and beholden to the Muslim bloc as Kofi Annan. The UN has nowhere to go but up. Moon must rid himself of Kofi Annan loyalists. Retire them early with their typically bloated UN pensions

"I have great hopes for Ban Ki Moon. No one can be possibly be as stupid, vile and beholden to the Muslim bloc as Kofi Annan."
Similar was said about Rice and Powell.
Rice turned out to be a big disappointment, and so will Ki Moon Bat.

You have to be very understanding of the Palestinians. Six million of them were killed by the Jews during the genocide known as the naqba.

Well, by that logic, lets donate billions to North Korea since they have a lot of poor and lets see how much more friendly they become to South Korea and the US. surely the government of N. Korea would use that money and distribute it to its civilians so they should not live in squalor and hate their S. Korean neighbors.

Why am I NOT indignant?
The Israelis hav ben squeezing blood money from the Germans for the last 60 yrs. From grandchildren taht had nothing to do with WWII.
The Israelis are less than angels - they have a serious bias against hteir own branch of religion : THe Sephardics (which as far as I coonsider are the REAL owners of Israel).
AND above all - the Israelis get FREE high tech and weaponry from the U.S.> - and then SELL it to the Chinese, and others.
So just WHO are they kidding?
As few people know, isreal is a socialist State - there is a large migration OUTWARD.
I have NOT sympathy. I say: bleed them as Isreal has been doing to others.

Every one knows the UN is a big joke where highly paid people are made to look important and voice platitudes. Its a pity, it has been hijacked by the countries that contribute the least. So what's new? The circus goes on.Every so often there is a change in the 'circus master' and thats about it.

The UN should be abolished... Waste of money, waste of time, waste of space.
The UN is full of nations that are against democracy, blind to human rights abuses and impotent against agression.
It's time to scrap the UN.

"Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People."
...Could the committee look into the rights?
...The right to be forever killing each other...
...The right to believe it is right to kill your neighbors...
...The right to demand payment from Western nations, Israel, and a host of Islamic countries
...The right to remain jobless just because they don't want to get a job..
...The right to fire rockets into Israel anytime they want..with no regard to the location or identity of the victims...
...The right to destroy all farms and agricultural projects in the land...espically if the farm was originally owned by a JEW...
...The right to hold violent marches around town, burning tires, looting stores and throwing stones ...anytime you want to....
...The right to lay land mines, IEDs, car bombs anywhere...
...The right to send trained terrorists abroad to spread the violence...anywhere, anytime...
...The right to torture, execute, or behead people just because the QUR'AN says you can...you must...
...The right to take other peoples lands just because the Qur'an says all land is yours anyway...
...The right to complain about your rotten life, even though you make your life the way it is...
...The right to persecute any Non Muslims because...after all...they are not really people...according to the Qur'an...other peoples are actually just apes, pigs , dogs and such...and besides, the other people should just be your slaves anyway...
...The right to deny a real education to your youth...you do not want them to actually learn anything...do you...
...The right to blame everybody under the sun except yourself for your problems....
...The right to believe in the Qur'an...after all...it is the only book in the world...and it has all the answers...
YESSIRR, follow the instructions in the Qur'an...remain in the 7th century if you want to...
...Palistinians do indeed believe in their rights...

This Ban Ki-Moon:
In South Korea, he was known to be as slippery as an eel (in fact, he was called that: “slippery eel”). He could teach Bill Clinton and Tony Blair a few tricks.
I also know that UN figured it had got too far apart diplomatically from the USA under Kofi Annan's reign. So you can expect Ban Ki-Moon to try and get ito the USA's good books.
Ultimately, I expect Ban Ki-Moon to fail.
Every politician sooner or later discovers that it is impossible to please all the different factions all the time.
I also know that India, South Africa, Japan (no chance with China's attitude) are trying to get permanent seats on the UN security council.

The entire UN is one big gargantuan carcass that even Richierich CANNIBALS of NOIDA also would recoil from licking. Why are the WISE and UNCONQUERED amongst us paying any attention at all ? Please take some cues from India . Don't be so insular and blinkered and " civilized " . I am not being sarcastic AT ALL. Boycotting, mikes throwing why even PULVERIZING the EVIL is EVERWARRANTED.
Really, I was such a fool overoverhyperbolically overestimating your courage. Who will be there to hold any " commission of enquiry " ? Recall what someone said once , an Englishman:
" A commission of enquiry is akin to sitting upon a toilet ; you make a lot of noise ; you drop it ; flush it and then forget the whole thing ".
