And mind you, they don't mean attempts to identify Islam with terrorism such as those perpetrated by Osama bin Laden, Ayman al-Zawahri, Omar Bakri, Abu Hamza, and the rest. They meant non-Muslims who analyze those connections and try to alert people to their existence, so that non-Muslims and genuinely peaceful Muslims can take realistic and effective steps to keep these elements of Islam from being used to incite to violence and acts on behalf of Islamic supremacism.
"U.N. rights body condemns 'defamation' of religion," from Reuters, with thanks to all who sent this in:
GENEVA (Reuters) - The United Nations top human rights body condemned "defamation" of religion on Friday and, in an apparent reference to the storm over the Prophet cartoons, said press freedom had its limits. With the support of China, Russia and Cuba, Moslem and Arab states comfortably won a vote on the 47-state Human Rights Council to express concern at "negative stereotyping" of religions and "attempts to identify Islam with terrorism."
"The resolution is tabled in the expectation that it will compel the international community to acknowledge and address the disturbing phenomena of the defamation of religions, especially Islam," said Pakistan, speaking on behalf of the Organization of the Islamic Conference.
The resolution was opposed by Western states which said it focused too much on Islam. The job of the Council was to deal with the rights of individuals not religions, they said
Yes. Muslims concerned about the "defamation" of Islam should fight against violent jihad and Islamic supremacism. To point fingers at non-Muslims in this, when Muslims on virtually a daily basis commit acts of violence and justify them by Islamic precepts, is arrant hypocrisy.

That's right there's those Evangelical type Christians, they're terrorists too. Maybe we should blame Orthodox Christians and Jews because they're terrorists too. Whatever you do don't blame the scumbag culture that wraps bombs around men, woman and children and sends them anywhere they can to kill as many as they can, they are victims, not terrorists.

Every single time you see the word "religion" in this article, replace it with "Islam", since that's what caused this "resolution".
to express concern at "negative stereotyping" of religions and "attempts to identify Islam with terrorism."Those attemps are done by Qur'an carrying, Israel hating Muslims worldwide. See -> www.TheReligionOfPeace.com
"The resolution is tabled in the expectation that it will compel the international community to acknowledge and address the disturbing phenomena of the defamation of religions, especially Islam,"Replace "especially" with "mostly".
The resolution was opposed by Western states which said it focused too much on Islam.Ya think?!!!
I wonder if this "resolution" applies to Creationists and to the attacks they get from mainstream media worldwide.

So I guess this means that the UN will condemn the ROP act of murder in Nigeria this week where a Christian teacher was attacked and killed by her students because she apparently "touched" a Koran..

I tried scouring the UN website to see who voted for and against this, but no luck. Also, are all 47 countries members at the same time, or is there rotating membership. Note that the US and Israel aren't members of this group.
We should get a whole list of who voted for this, so that we know where to aim our nukes.

The 'Jerusalem Post' online has an article about this and gives names of some of the countries involved - including those who didn't like it and saw quite clearly that it was about exempting Islam from normal criticism.

Since islam is not a religion but rather a cult this shouldn't be too alarming for anyone.
/sarc off
China and Russia are playing a dangerous game here. They think we are weak right now and they are laying down with some very nasty dogs.
Are they attempting to appease moslems in their own lands?
And WHY does anyone think we should appease them?
Are thy like Superman and the Incredible Hulk all rolled into one alluvasudden?!
I say.. we should piss them off as much as we can.. make them leave.. or fight!

Russia, China, and Cuba just ignore dumb rules like this.
The left will use these dumb rules to complicate Western societies and make our systems less efficient. For a while anyway.
The Swiftboat Veteran's book really got off the ground when Kerry tried to get it banned. Let them keep passing resolutions.

Guys.. I am sorry to post so much.
But I just found this piece of jihadist propaganda on Wackypedia. I was looking for the Martin Niemöller poem "First they came" when I came across this perfectly manufactured piece of jihadist propagarbage:
Asian Dub Foundation paraphrased the poem in the song "Round Up" on the album "Tank" (2005). Excerpt from the lyrics is:
dem come for de rasta and you say nothing
dem come from the Muslims you say nothing
dem come for the anti-globalist you say nothing
dem even come for the liberals and you say nothing
dem come for you and will speak for you? who will speak for you, who ?
Look hos slickly they insert moslems as the future victims of some evil - along with use of Rasta-style language.
Asian my foot. I *gaurantee* you these "lads" are Pakis! MAybe some of the English on this board can elucidate on this?
Let me direct your attention to how "muslim" is the only word throughout this pice which starts with a CAP.
SO telling, isn't it?
Goebbels you have met your match!
Now for my version:
First they came for the Jews [remember Mecca?]
and I didn’t speak up,
because I wasn’t around.
Then they came for the Zoroastrians, and I didn’t speak up,
because I wasn’t around.
Then they came for the Christians, and I didn’t speak up,
because I wasn't around.
NOW they are coming for me, and all of us
and most of us are ignorant.
They are coming for us Germans, and the rest of you mock us.
Does that make you feel good?
They are coming for the Americans, and the rest of us cow down.
They are coming as always for the Jews, and most of us go along.
They've been coming for the Hindus, yet we had no idea.
Noone ever told us. The Hindus didn't matter.
Well, I tell you they DO.
They've been coming for the Buddhists, and we stand aside and look.
They are coming for France, They are coming for Britain.
They are Imperialists and we stand aside and look.
My friends, dear friends, they are coming for all or us.
It still is not too late but time is running out.
The FEW of us who KNOW must stand together, that much we know.
Ignorance and division among us is their currency in trade.
I'm not a good writer and yet they are coming for ME.
I will be there tomorrow to SPEAK out for ALL of you and me!
Please do the same for me.

The 'Jerusalem Post' article, also fed in from AP but seems to have a few details, to wit:
"The resolution was adopted by a 24-14 vote with nine abstentions. Canada, Japan and South Korea joined European countries in opposition, primarily citing its excessive focus on Islam and incompatibility with fundamental rights such as the freedoms of speech and thought.
"The problem of religious intolerance is worldwide and not limited to certain religions," said Brigitta Maria Siefker-Eberle of Germany," speaking on behalf of the 27-nation European Union.
Ghana, India, Nigeria, Zambia and some of the council's Latin American countries abstained."
So: Canada, Japan (Buddhist-animist) and South Korea (which has a very large and fast-growing Christian minority), spoke up in opposition. The four leading 'abstainers' are also interesting.

Full text of resolution:
In a resolution (A/HRC/4/L.12) on Combating defamation of religions , adopted by a vote of 24 in favour, 14 against, and nine abstentions, as orally amended, the Council expresses deep concern at attempts to identify Islam with terrorism, violence and human rights violations; notes with deep concern the intensification of the campaign of defamation of religions, and the ethnic and religious profiling of Muslim minorities, in the aftermath of the tragic events of 11 September 2001; urges States to take resolute action to prohibit the dissemination including through political institutions and organizations of racist and xenophobic ideas and material aimed at any religion or its followers that constitute incitement to racial and religious hatred, hostility or violence; also urges States to provide adequate protection against acts of hatred, discrimination, intimidation and coercion resulting from defamation of religions, to take all possible measures to promote tolerance and respect for all religions and their value systems and to complement legal systems with intellectual and moral strategies to combat religious hatred and intolerance; further urges all States to ensure that all public officials, including members of law enforcement bodies, the military, civil servants and educators, in the course of their official duties, respect different religions and beliefs and do not discriminate against persons on the grounds of their religion or belief, and that any necessary and appropriate education or training is provided; invites the Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance to regularly report on all manifestations of defamation of religions and in particular on the serious implications of Islamophobia on the enjoyment of all rights; and requests the High Commissioner for Human Rights to report to the Human Rights Council on the implementation of this resolution at its sixth session.

From the resolution: "...urges States to take resolute action to prohibit the dissemination including through political institutions and organizations of racist and xenophobic ideas and material aimed at any religion or its followers..."
Clearly, this means the Koran should be banned, for teaching xeophobic ideas and material aimed at other religions.
From Ali translation, verse 5:51: "O ye who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians for your friends and protectors: They are but friends and protectors to each other. And he amongst you that turns to them (for friendship) is of them. Verily Allah guideth not a people unjust."
at March 31, 2007 1:25 PM
Stendec's point is valid (i.e., banning the koran) but apparently that's not the intent of the resolution looking at the roster of nations voting for it. The clash of civilizations in full view!
I am wondering what Mexico, the Philippines and South Africa are thinking voting for resolution.
It appears that the call for the US and other democratic nations to pull out of the UN and start another organization was/is the right one. The idiotic statement that press freedom has its limits, would help provide justification for pulling out and beginning afresh.
at March 31, 2007 2:13 PM
Against (14): Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Guatemala, Japan, Netherlands, Poland, Republic of Korea, Romania, Switzerland, Ukraine and United Kingdom.
Where's Denmark?
Why does the United Kindom get only one vote? Shouldn't the Scots and the Welsh and the Irish get their own votes? Looks like the Western Bloc is getting cheated.
We really need to rethink all this U.N. and this E.U. mess we've gotten ourselves in.
get the UN out NOW! I really don't care if New York loses business as our business-as-usual mayor keeps intoning.
Maybe we'll get affordable rents when the tens of thousands of overpaid UN hirelings, and spies and other personnel leave the isand of Manhattan.
The UN is nothing but an isamic institutiona nd we don;t need it around any longer.

But WE Westerners actually follow this UN crap.
I'll give you a funny example I read in Der Spiegel over 25 years ago.:
They interviewd the italian ambassador to germany.
Q. What do you think about a general speed limit on the German Autobahn.
A. I think it's a huge mistake.
Q. But you have a general speed limit in italy.
A. Yes but in Italy noone obeys it and noone enforces it.

According to my handy factbook, here are some stats for the Yes, No and Abstain voters, country by country. All figures, of course, are rough, and 5 years old. Number of 'Christians' would cover a lot of 'nominals'. FYI, I have some codes. V = Violence (ongoing or in recent past); C = a problem with corruption; P = persecution, primarily of Christians; NF = no freedom of religion (mostly means Muslims can't apostasize); F = religious freedom, more or less; Ch = Christian, M = Muslim, I = Islamic/ Islamised state; nr = nonreligious; H = Hindu; B = Buddhist, T = traditional/ animist/ spiritist, etc.
YES:
Algeria - I, NF, V, C, P. 96 % M, under 1 % Ch.

Netherlands - F; V (M assassins). 56% Ch, 38% nr, 5.4% M.
Poland - F, C. 90% Ch, 9 % nr.
S Korea - 24% B, 35% nr, 31% Ch, 0.07% M.
Romania - F, V, C. 87.8% Ch, 11% nr, 1% M.
Switzerland - F. 86% Ch, 8% nr, 3.1% M.
Ukraine - F; some V, C. 88% Ch, 10% nr, 0.45% M.
UK - F. 67% Ch, 28% nr, 2% M.
It is instructive to reflect that Islamised states which ruthlessly persecute Muslim apostates and Christian evangelists are only found among the 'yes' voters, as are the holdout communist states. Russia and Sri Lanka are 10% and 8 % M ; Philippines has a Muslim insurrection going (at 5 % of pop).
