"But the brutality of the murders and the lack of evidence of theft have led some to believe that the crime may have had religious overtones."
From Compass Direct:
ISTANBUL, March 30 (Compass Direct News) – The murder of two Christian women in their Kirkuk home this week highlights growing insecurity facing Christians, often targeted for money in war-torn Iraq.Kirkuk Archbishop Louis Sako said that thieves repeatedly stabbed and strangled lay Christians Fadhila Naoum, 85, and Margaret Naoum, 79, after breaking into their house at 7:30 p.m. on Monday evening (March 26).
Though a police official told The Associated Press that he had ruled out the possibility of attempted robbery, Sako said he believed the murders were motivated only by theft.
“It was a pure robbery [attempt],” Sako told Compass. “[The robbers] were looking for money and gold. I was at the house half an hour after the murder, and it was completely in disorder.”
Speaking from Kirkuk yesterday following a mass celebrated on behalf of the sisters to complete the traditional three days of mourning, the archbishop commented that “chaos” in Iraq, not religious violence, was behind the killings.
Open Doors, a Christian organization working with suffering Christians around the world, said in a January 17 press release, “The main reason [for attacks on Christians] is money.” The organization noted that Muslim extremists have worked to expel Christians from certain cities, but said that most Iraqi Christians are targeted because they own shops and are believed to have money.
Clergy in Baghdad told Compass that five of seven church leaders kidnapped in Iraq last year were likely targeted solely for money.
Religious Overtones
But the brutality of the murders and the lack of evidence of theft have led some to believe that the crime may have had religious overtones.
“The terrorists have already killed a Christian policeman, soldier and oil engineer,” Kirkuk cathedral priest Father Saoor Shamel told the Tuscaloosa News on Tuesday (March 27).
The AP reported on March 27 that 1st Lt. Marewan Salih said there was no sign of a robbery, but the article incorrectly claimed that the sisters were nuns. Sako confirmed to Compass that the murderers had taken nothing from the Naoums’ home.

"most Iraqi Christians are targeted because they own shops and are believed to have money."
....Iraqi Muslims kill the Christians because it is what the crazed bearded Islamic clerics tell the mindless morons to do ....Money is secondary...if any money is found, it is used to purchase weapons and explosives.....
....Christians prefer an honest job as opposed to mindless violence....Muslims remove all traces of shame by eliminating the source...kill the Non Muslims....

How very insistent, very very insistent, over-insistent, are these Christian spokesmen, clerics, groups, not to alarm, not to point to the obvious.
Non-Muslims in a Muslim society have always been a source of wealth for the Muslims. The Jizyah of non-Muslims provided the money for the Muslim state. In the last 150 years, payment of the Jizyah in the Ottoman Empire was, under pressure of European powers, supposedly done away with, though it lingered, wherever Muslims thought they could get away with it, or was imposed in various disguised ways.
The situation has a familiar ring. Christians and Jews in Islamic lands have historically been treated as ready sources of money, just as in medieval Christendom, Jews were often exploited by monarchs as a source of funds, on pain of death, and even put to death in order to obtain possession of their property had been seized (see, for example, om "Simon de Montfort and His Cause," ed. Rev. W. H. Hutton, the accounts of Matthew Paris and especially that of Thomas Wykes on the mass-murder of London's Jews in 1264, prior to the expulsion of England's Jewsin 1297).
Would anyone think it fair to say that the mistreatment of Jews in medieval Europe, and the repeated seizures, in many places at many times, of their property, extorted or simply appropriated at the time of their expulsions was merely a matter of "money," and unrelated to the cruelties and barbarity of antisemitism?
Similarly, does anyone think that the cruel mistreatment of Christians in present-day Iraq, and the attacks on them, is simply a "matter of money" as the Christian spokesmen above, terrified to say otherwise. And these statements made for public consumption, both to calm down Christians and to avoid being attacked even more by Muslims who would be angered if the local Christians told the full truth about their situation and about Muslim behavior, are humanly understandable, but also false -- not nearly as grotesquely false as the terrified "Palestinian" Christians who are quick to publicly blame Israel for the attacks on them by Muslims, because only the bravest or most foolhardy dare to tell the truth about the real source of their fear, which is Islam, which is Muslims.
Even as the Christians pack up and leave, as best they can, headed either for the comparative safety of some Assyrian villages in the north, or the slightly better conditions under Kurds rather than Arabs, or to Syria, where the Alawite dictatorship, for reasons of its own, offers greater protection to Christians, because the Alawites themselves are threatened by Muslims who think of them as Infidels, they may continue to pretend that things were "fine" for how can they, unless they are finally in the safety of the West? And even there, one wonders, for given the Muslim migration by the millions into the Lands of the Infidels, where can Middle Eastern Christians feel safe enough to openly tell the truth, and thereby help warn the West -- a West that needs, badly, such warning?

Compass News could have expounded on the underlying cause of Christian/minority flight from Iraq, just as Hugh has done. I have noticed that so many of the stories of minority flight in the Middle East are only economic stories, often with a sub-plot of "the Americans and their policies are the real villains." To be fair, many of the minorities interviewed find it easier and safer to give economic reasons for leaving. In the long run, it does a major disservice to those non-Muslims left behind to struggle for their survival in Islamic societies.

I bet the perpetrators tried to convert these old women. When they refused to join the death cult they were brutally murdered.
Freinds of yours, Abullah?

If things continue this way, the only Assyrians left in the world will be in Chicago and Detroit.

Perfectly like M.O. of the pedophile "prophet".
Put out an APB for a guy with a henna-colored beard last seen in 632 A.D.
Or one of his 1.2 billion accomplices.

Takes a big brave moslem to brutally kill a couple of grandmothers.
Have anything to say abdullah or naseem?
Things like this happening all over the world and the lack of outrage (and the equivocation) by "moderate" moslems are why to folks at the Seattle UAC rally were correct in their caution in accepting the cair reps platitudes.

here in NYC a thug was videotaped beating and robbing first a 100yo woman and then on the same day an 85yo woman.
The Dhimicrats in the NY legislature are blocking a Law that would make attacking seiors a felony.
Peter King [R] is trying to get this Law passed. He's also responsible for the provision to blcok lawsuist against passenger who repot suspicious behavior.
Amazing that someone in NY state has THAT much common sense.

Typical Muslims. You live next door to someone Islamic for 79 years, and one day envy becomes too much for them, they have imagined all kinds of things about their Christian neighbors -- like amassed wealth -- so they break in and murder their elderly female neighbors out of pathetic jealousy, and find nothing. (Then they find some Christian father of two to blame & publicly execute him) It's been going on for 1300 years. Coming to a neighborhood near you -- mentally ill murderers and thieves justified by their faith -- soon!

"Typical Muslims. You live next door to someone Islamic for 79 years, and one day ......"
....exactly!....the Muslims in your neighborhood may be all smiles and real friendly and may not kill you today....but tomorrow is another day and quite possibly your last day as a free person or as a living person....
Islam seeks to dominate all and to eliminate all who refuse to submit....this means you....and in your neighborhood...
ban Muslim Immigration now...
