Revathi Masoosai Update. Where is the UN? Where are the human rights organizations? "Malaysia: Islam 'rehabilitates' members of other faiths," from AP, with thanks to all who sent this in:
A Malaysian Islamic court has extended the detention of a Muslim-born woman living as a Hindu in defiance of the law after she refused to be rehabilitated, an opposition leader said Wednesday.Revathi Masoosai, an ethnic Indian, was detained by the Islamic Religious Department in southern Malacca state in January and sent for religious counseling in a rehabilitation center after they discovered she had been born to a Muslim family.
Revathi, 29, was born to Indian Muslim parents who gave her a Muslim name, Siti Fatimah. But she claimed she was raised as a Hindu by her grandmother and changed her name in 2001, opposition Democratic Action Party officials have said. Malaysian Islamic law regards people born to Muslims as being Muslims themselves.
Islamic officials seized her 15-month-old daughter from her Hindu husband, Suresh Veerappan, last month and handed the child to Revathi's Muslim mother.
Revathi married Suresh in 2004 according to Hindu rites but the marriage has not been legally registered because Suresh would have had to convert to Islam first. Revathi's official identification documents state she is Muslim because Malaysians who are born as Muslims cannot legally change their religion.
Parliamentary opposition chief Lim Kit Siang, who chairs the DAP, said the Malacca Shariah Court has extended Revathi's initial detention term of 100 days, which expired Wednesday, for an additional 80 days.
Her husband was informed by court officials that "she did not cooperate during the 100-day stay," Lim told The Associated Press.

Revathi Masoosai is a hero in the fight for freedom. Her non-violent resistance is exposing the lie that there are no forced conversions or compulsion to Islam. All non-Muslim religious leaders should rally to her cause. We csnnot let this brave woman be forgotten!

Suresh would have done well to have eloped with Revathi in Singapore, and then returned. Question would be - does Malaysia also not recognize legal marriage certificates from other countries?
Malaysia should be made the social object of international oppobrium (it won't happen at any governmental level, but at grassroots, people worldwide should start treating Malaysia the same way South Africa was treated during the 80's.) After all, even under Apartheid, while inter-racial marriages were verboten, there wasn't this systematic persecution of inter-racial families. Malaysia should be forced to openly declare what it practices, and if it remains Shariah, Chinese, Tamils, Dayaks and other non-Muslim Malaysians should have the liberty to break away. And take their converts like Revathi with them.

A wierd thought.....So, if Barack Obama (born unto Muslim family?) ever travels to Malaysia, he will be deemed Muslim and subject to forced rehabilitation? That may be a good thing for the obvious reasons but, it might even mean SOME FREAKIN NEWSPAPER IN THE U.S. MIGHT WRITE A STORY ABOUT WHAT"S GOING ON THERE!!

Gorkhali i just been reading the amnesty international website and went to the malaysia section and theres no mention of what happened to this poor women who has had her baby taken away from her and is in jail it just shows amnesty international is biased and one sided and pro islam it does not ccare about anyones human rights

This is being recognised around the world - by the Iranian female university students who claim the imposition of new standards of dress is a form of sexual apartheid, to posters here.
If you're a member of Amnesty International, start applying pressure to have them concentrate on the real examples of oppression like this woman in Malaysia, instead of terrorists and their supporters.
