Sharia Alert: his action -- leaving the Qur'an in mosque washrooms -- led them to conclude that he had renounced Islam, which carries a death sentence, in line with Muhammad's words, "Whoever changed his Islamic religion, then kill him'" (Bukhari 9.84.57).
"Egyptian faces death over Saudi Koran desecration," from Reuters, with thanks to David:
RIYADH – An Egyptian living in Saudi Arabia has been sentenced to death for desecrating the Koran and renouncing Islam, Saudi newspapers and a rights activist said on Wednesday.Okaz and al-Hayat newspapers said worshippers at a mosque in the desert town of Arar in north Saudi Arabia lodged a complaint with police saying the man, a pharmacist, had left copies of the Muslim holy book in the mosque washrooms.
They said a court found the man guilty on Tuesday of no longer being a Muslim because of his acts and 'violating the boundaries set by God'. They said the man, whom they identified only as an Arab national, pleaded guilty.
Saudi Arabia executes murderers, rapists and drug traffickers to death by public beheading, according to an austere version of Sunni Islam. Anyone found guilty of apostasy can also face death.

Ah, the joy of Islam! Seems to me that handling radioactive material with cotton gloves would far less dangerous to the human condition than that damned book of theirs. Anyway....what was the idiot doing in Saudi in the first place. Here be Dragons!
Any plonker who would entertain the idea of visiting places of extreme views really should have their testicles nailed to their forehead as an example to others.
As this is obviously an extreme view I am now going for a rummage in my toolbox for a blunt rusty nail and a claw hammer....

Well, considering the myriad details one must remember when using the bathroom, wouldn't a copy of the Qur'an be NECESSARY in there?

Well… dear JW and DW posters, I can tell you some incident that happened to me, in my dearest Hellhole of a motherland Iran in childhood that may shed some light on this situation and make you feel what can be like to have to deal with these zealots. As you by now know as the results of you thorough research about Islam, Muslims are extremely crazy and zealous about Qur’an. When we were in school we were taught that every single word of Qur’an and every single verse being the word of God must be handled with especial care and respect and ceremonious diligence and not treated like just any other writing. One not only is not allowed to leave Qur’an anywhere near washing areas, but also one is not allowed to touch any word from Qur’an without ablution (ritual washing). Most Muslims when reading from the Qur’an don’t use their finger to follow the lines but use a pointer, lest their finger is not properly washed during the ablution and is still najis (dirty and impure). Muslims are pathologically pedantic with this notions of najis and pak(pure and clean) to the point that sometimes I think they need professional help.
Anyway… as you might guess, if touching the lines of Qur’anic text with one’s finger is frowned upon then stepping on a Qur’an or a Qur’anic text must be a huge crime in the eyes of the Muslims. Now when I was a child in the elementary school my family used to live in a relatively poor neighborhood with lots of uneducated people, and as the degree of religious zeal and lack of education in the Muslim world go often hand in hand, most of our neighbors were also very religious. My family was the “black sheep” of the neighborhood (or “white sheep” I better say) because my mom didn’t wear chador and my parents were both educated and not very religious.
So one day in the school when we had a break I was eating a sandwich while talking to my classmates in the yard, and suddenly a piece of bread fell off to the ground from my sandwich and I just stepped on it without suspecting anything. At this very moment I can say without exaggeration that all hell broke loose and suddenly a bunch of students started to shout at me and push me and beat me and yell at me and drag me to the principal’s office. I was so shocked that I didn’t even know what had happened and why the students where angry at me. When I was finally bullied and dragged to the principal’s office by the zealot students and I have been complained about to her, she came to me very angrily and asked me: “How dare you stepped on bread?” I said: “I didn’t mean anything bad, but why should it be any problem and offence to anyone?” She said with a shocked voice: “Don’t you know that on every grain of wheat according to Muhammad (PBUH) the Sura #1 (Towhid) of Quran (Ghol hova Allho ahad) is inscribed? Now your bread is made of wheat and stepping on it is like stepping on Sura #1 of Qur’an! It is a grave sin and you should repent from it and never do it again!” I was pretty shocked to hear this. I never heard such nonsense at home from my parents. Anyway after humiliating me enough and making me denounce myself and repent in front of the whole school they let me off the hook! They also sent a letter of complaint to my parents which they threw directly into trash! But the whole incident felt horrible and I cried so much that day. That’s what Muslim zealots do to child offenders, so no wonder that they want to kill this grown-up fellow!

Whoa, what a story. At least you had parents who were sane and smart enough to know better. Otherwise I'm sure it would have been worse for you.

Good. We need more examples so that people understand what our 'staunch allies in the War on Terror' are really about.

Saudi Arabia executes murderers, rapists and drug traffickers to death by public beheading, according to an austere version of Sunni Islam.Drop the phrase 'austere version of Sunni'. Same is true about Iran, which is Shia. Same is true about most Islamic countries. Some Islamic countries like Malaysia are more 'civilized' - they simply prevent apostasy. What a relief!

Sounds like something from the dept of 'You just can't make this up'. Looks like another solution to this nuke crisis in Iran is air-dropping wheat over such morons - that'll make them too engrossed with cleaning it up to bother about anything else.

Hi Rita malik
Im a Hindu and i live surrounded by Parsis, refugees from Iran. I think you have a glorious civilization, which you should be proud of.
If anybody bullshits about you converting out of Islam, just dont care. Its a barbaric killing cult imposed upon a great race, and you've done justice to yourself and your ancestors by converting out.
You could have apathetic religious views if you choose, but dont ever convert to Hinduism, Christianity, Judaism. If you want to search for a god, you allways had Zarathoestra

This Reuters article sanitizes the death penalty in Saudi Arabia when it informs us that
Saudi Arabia executes murderers, rapists and drug traffickers to death by public beheading, according to an austere version of Sunni Islam.
As Infidel Pride noted above, the Reuters article tries to make this an issue of "extremism" rather than simply of adherence to traditional Islam.
Secondly, Saudi Arabia does not merely punish with the death penalty "murderers, rapists and drug traffickers" -- this makes it seem not so different from strict Western countries. In Saudi Arabia also, according to Amnesty International,
the death penalty applies to a wide range of non-violent activities such as apostasy and "witchcraft", "sexual offences", acts deemed to amount to "corruption on earth", and crimes such as drug dealing.
Think of that: in 2007, a state is beheading people for the "crime" of witchcraft! And these beheadings (or sometimes death by firing squad or stonings) take place outside of the mosque after Friday prayers!
Amnesty International adds:
Saudi Arabia has one of the highest rates of executions in the world in both absolute numbers and per capita.

ritamalik,
You should write down all your life experiences in Iran and put it up on a blog -- they would be very interesting and educational.
It's easy and free to create a blog at Blogspot -- here's the link:

While Zoroastrianism is probably the best homegrown religion for Persians to move to, what's wrong should any Persians choose to look elsewhere - at Christianity, Judaism, or less likely, Buddhism or Hinduism? Besides, Zoroaster isn't God - Ahura Mazda is.
Anything but Islam.

I don't get it. Was the Egyptian guy trying to make some sort of statement by leaving the Qur'an in the washrooms, or was he merely setting it down on the way into the restroom, taking care of business, then picking it back up on the way out, and the Religious Police saw him? Was it a case of anti-dhimmitude, or just bad ettiquette, for which he will be executed?

Let them kill one another.
Until enough of them get sick enough to overthrow this psychotic lunacy.
They seem to need a lot of punishment to rouse from the tenacious mesmerism of Islam.
I guess Mohammad's last post-hypnotic suggestion was:
BE NUMB... BE NUMB!...BE NUMB!!!!
(In phonetic Arabic: "im-SAK...im-SAK...im-SAK!.")

Thank you remote control! I have been entertaining the thought of having a blog about these issues for a while now. I am glad that I see the content might be interesting to some people. At the moment I am a bit busy with my personal life and starting a new blog is a big responsibility because I have to update it often if it is going to be interesting. So I am just waiting for the right moment to settle down and start the blog. Surely as soon as I do that I will leave my www address for you guys in JW and DW.
Dear, special_guest, it doesn’t matter if he did it on purpose or by accident. The punishment follows anyway! Besides I highly doubt that a “sensible” Muslim would ever take his Qur’an to the washroom no matter what! But anyway which ever the reason we will never know. Because the poor guy must have been beaten so much by now that he has already “admitted” that he is an apostate even if the matter was just a sloppy accident!

It could have been worse, he could have wiped himself with the quran.

The article notes that "he left copies of the Koran in washrooms...".
One Koran could be a mistake (that's what I've always said!), but multiple "copies" left in multiple "washrooms" can only be intentional.
Was he just being thoughtful for those Mohammedans who wanted a little reading material, and didn't understand the implications in Saudi Arabia?
Islam, where no good deed goes unpunished.

I think the man was framed. But then I really don't care what happens to any of them.
I have to worry about Bush selling JDAMS to his SOWdis. God, how much more damage is this moron capable of doing?
Unless we have installed little kill switch circuits in case they try using them against Israel.
We need Bush out of there in a hurry.
And we don't need another Clinton either. Bill gave Kosovo to the moslems and he didn't go after Bin Laden.
I'm sure his wife Hitlery wants to give Andalucia to them next!
We don;t want to see the following skeletons coming back from the past:
Warren Christopher.
Madeline Halfbright.
Wesley Clark.
Ramsey Clark.
Sandy Burglar.
And God knows whom else we might have to endure if Hitlery somehow wormed her way into the White House.

ritamalik man! So not only pork offends them, but also stepping on bread! And the absurdity continues!
This, stepping on bread when one of them is around, we must do. HEEEH! HEEH! Sura 1 written on every grain; now that is a laugh!

"...lodged a complaint with police saying the man, a pharmacist, had left copies of the Muslim holy book in the mosque washrooms."
His mistake was leaving behind evidence; He should've flushed!
