Fitzgerald: For the convert, Islam is so many wonderful things

"I met Danny the week he converted, about seven years ago," said Uguz, identified by worshipers at the mosque yesterday as Maldonado's best friend. "He was cool. He dressed in T-shirts and jeans and didn't hide any of his tattoos. His hair was in dreadlocks. He was eager, and he had a lot of questions."

.............

Maldonado, who grew up in Pelham, N.H., and later lived in Methuen, became immersed in Islam and attended prayer sessions regularly at Selimiye Mosque. He began wearing traditional Arab clothing, including the galabeyah, an ankle-length gown with long sleeves that covered the tattoos on his arms. He struggled to grow the beard of a religious Muslim. When he could not, he blamed his Puerto Rican heritage and began chastising fellow Muslims who could grow a full beard and chose not to." -- from this article

Islam is so many wonderful things for a convert such as Danny Maldonado.

For the anomie-ridden empty-headed Spiritual Searcher, it offers the One-Stop Solution to the riddle of the universe. It offers, after all, a Complete Regulation of Daily Life. No thought required. Allah Ta'ala Knows Best. Yours is not to reason why: just ask Mr. Fatwa. Ask and ye shall be given the answer as to what you are commanded to do, and what you are prohibited from doing. And when you know what is halal, and what haram, you simply follow those rules, slavishly.

For the person who resents his position in society, possibly (though not necessarily) because he feels "persecuted" or "discriminated" against as a member of an ethnic or racial minority, Islam offers a justification for making war on society -- an Infidel society which, he is told, is "unjust" (i.e., un-Islamic). Islam is now the vehicle for protest and opposition and declaration of alienation from all that that society is.

For the criminal, Islam justifies and even glorifies one's deeds. You have not stolen when you take, as a Muslim, the property of Infidels. You have not behaved badly, and certainly are not guilty of a crime, when you take, as a Muslim, non-Muslim women forcibly for your pleasure -- they were asking for it, by the way they dress, or talk, or think. They deserve it. And whatever you do, as long as the victims are Infidels, is justified in your mind, and in the minds of others. That doesn't mean that all Muslims are always breaking all laws -- no. Some will be perfectly law-abiding, but realize that, as a matter of belief, they do have a right to lay those Infidel laws aside. At some point, once they achieve greater numbers and greater powers, they will be able to exercise that right with greater boldness and impunity, to ignore, or not to recognize, the manmade laws of the Infidel nation-state -- laws which, precisely because they are manmade and Infidel, have no validity except insofar as they happen to coincide with the laws of Islam, or must be observed as a matter of necessity when Muslims are not in a position of power.

For the lonely misbegotten wretches of this world, Islam offers an Instant Community. The clever practitioners of Da'wa are able to locate the weakest links in our society, and to woo them, and to tell them just a tiny bit about Islam, and then -- first a little, thence to more -- they let those new converts in on all of Islam's killing store. Meanwhile, the New Muslim (they are careful not to use the word "revert" before Infidels, for the very word causes a question to be asked by Infidels that Muslims don't wish to answer) is carefully taken under the wing of one or several people, including the imam, who carefully look after this New Muslim, making sure he doesn't begin to question his decision, making sure he is surrounded by fellow Muslims eager to offer him every kindness and every encouragement, eager to keep him away from his old Infidel haunts and friends and relatives.

Oh, it's down to a well-planned campaign, a campaign that has been hewed, over centuries, and has had remarkable success. And now we shall see what happens in the Western world. Will the missionaries of Tablighi Jamaat and other groups succeed, as they attempt to inveigle the economically and socially marginal into being Recruits for the Army of Islam? Or will the Infidels realize what kind of a threat this is, and do something effective, or many effective things, both to counter Da'wa and, as important, to win converts from Islam -- beginning possibly with non-Arab Muslims who must be shown how they have been used, exploited, manipulated by an ideology that is and always has been a vehicle for Arab supremacism?

I find this topic very interesting. Is their a reference to any practicing psychoanalysts study regarding this topic? I have a long time friend that I have always considered to be a liberal extremist. Not extreme in a dangerous way, just that he's always voiced his opinion about freedom of speech, freedom of information, religious choice, bottom up management, "why cant we all just get along?". He is well educated in religion in general, but has totally bought into the Islam religion of peace mantra and believe he understands enough about it that further study would reveal nothing beyond what he already knows. (See,hear, speak no evil) He contends that we all worship the same God in a different fashion or we believe there is no god at all. Because I understand his position I resist bring topics of Muhammad and the atrocities that are being committed in the name of Allah all over the world every day. I know I will get an apologist argument like "Well the bible says....(favorite apologist quote here)". Recently, a discussion on wheat http://environment.newscientist.com/channel/earth/mg19425983.700-billions-at-risk-from-wheat-superblight.html lead to him say, "We are all just going to have to learn to get along." Which of course lead me to rebut that Islam and democracy are NOT compatible. From which a more heated debate grew. The details you have probably all heard before, but the interesting thing here is that he said "I think we should all convert to being Muslim." At that point I withdrew and pushed my chair back into my cube.

WHAT????? Is this view representative of the majority of liberals. A passive "if you cant beat'em join'em". Do they think that if we tell them that we submit to Allah everything will be Ooookayyy. Imagine if this is behind the thinking of Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and other so called leaders.

Thank you for this article.

The daughter of a friend of my family converted to Islam when in her late 20s or so.

She always struck me as a bit odd, in a way that I can't describe because I don't know her well. She is educated and in a good profession.

As a child and teenager, she had considered being a nun (she was raised Catholic). As an adult, she had some disappointments in love. Then she met an African Muslim man and converted so they could get married.

Sometimes I wonder if part of Islam's appeal for her (aside from obtaining a husband) was in its outwardly nun-like life for women. She dresses in large, bulky homemade outfits that look like tents (sorry) and covers her hair. She has to walk behind her husband and submit in all things. She has to be modest in dress, gaze, etc.

I really think that this outward appearance of holiness and purity appeals to some non-Muslim women, as well as the clothing that immediately signifies to other people that you are a proud member of the Islam club and superior to non-Muslim women.

But the "modesty" is in aspects of their clothing only and not in mindset and therefore it is much easier to achieve (in free countries where it can be done by choice). For example, this week I saw a Muslim woman with her hair covered: she was pushing an expensive, bright red baby stroller. That isn't true modesty, in my opinion.

Recently, on a discussion forum, a Muslim told me that Muslims should obey sharia, and that the only reason why they should obey infidel laws is because otherwise they'll go to prison. He also said that Muslims have every right to force sharia upon others, and that there is no God but Allah.

He was born in the US, from what I gathered, and described himself as a moderate. If that's moderation, I wonder what extremism is like. Strangely enough, not a single apologist on the discussion forum uttered a word of protest when he said all those things. It's not Islamophobia when a Muslim says it.

Elric66's link also goes along way in showing why a Keith Ellison managed to get elected in Minnesota. There are many of Scandinavian descent there but that won't be the case for long if they keep following in the footsteps of the old country. It truly is incredible how people insist on having their societies die like this.

It reminds me of this episode of Nip Tuck where this guy wanted his leg surgically removed so he would feel whole. Its like these socialist leftist elites wont feel whole until their culture is destroyed.

ISLAMSFORLOSERS, if by people of Scandinavian descent you mean people whose ancestors moved there decades or a hundred years ago, I don't see how there could be a causal relationship between their ancestry and contemporary Scandinavian politics.

No intelligent person, or semi intelligent person, or marginally intelligent person, would convert to Islam if they had done even a superficial investigation of what they are getting into.
There is no God but Allah' mimics Mohammads biggest lie. 'There is no ilah but Allah, and Mohammad is his messenger'. What a self serving statement/lie that was, and gullible muslims have been going for it for centuries. No one worships Allah except muslims, and they insist that we all follow thier twisted thoughts and value systems. Like eessaa,
tries the tactic of religious oneupsmanship. 'I know more about Islam than you do because I am a muslim.'
That holds no water for infidels who can read and are interested in the subject. As you all know (atleast most of you) if you study Islam at all, the obvious becomes obvious. The entire Islamic structure is based on lies. Like a house of cards, the pillars of Islam need lies and jihad to remain in existence. Soon the house of cards will fall of its own prevarications.

"For the criminal, Islam justifies and even glorifies one's deeds. You have not stolen when you take, as a Muslim, the property of Infidels."

I once had an on-line friendship with a very special lady whose teen-age son had converted to Islam. She was clueless in the begining that this conversion was anything but positive and hoped it would keep him out of drugs.

One day, he came home from the basketball courts with a nice watch. She asked him where he got it; he explained that he found it on the courts. She told him this was stealing....and that surely stealing was against his new-found religion.

His reply startled her: "not if the property is a non-Muslim's."

So began her long journey into discovering what an intolerant, supremacist religion Islam is. She educated herself about the faith and became increasingly alarmed at what she was learning. She watched her son grow into a radical Islamist; she remembers him visiting her the day of the African Embassy bombings and how he celebrated the news.

Today, she is a dedicated opponent of Islam. Her relationship with her son is fragile at the best of times. Though she loves him dearly, their estrangement has become unbridgable. It has been a source of great heart-ache for her.

This woman's story could become any of ours.

Islam: a license to kill.

What criminal wouldn't want a "get out of hell free" card?

According to the Hadiths (Bukhari 4; 54; 445), it is okay, specifically, to be a rapist and a thief if you are also a Muslim.

And your crimes won't get your thrown into the inferno as long as you bow to Allah while doing them.

Islam: a license to ill.

What Catholics Need to Known about
Mohammadanism, Friday, December 7, 2001:
Hanifs
Towards the end of the 6th Century, various men from Mecca, Medina and Taif, who were searching for a more pure religion than the dominant polytheism so rampant in Arabia, especially at Mecca, borrowed various doctrines and practices which appealed to them from the Jews, the heretical Nestorian Christians, and sundry pagans. This hodge-podge mixture of cafeteria-styled dogmatism became the basis upon which they claimed to have made up a “pure” religion. According to them, their home-grown cult was based upon their ancestor Ismael, a.k.a. Ishmael. The members of this diverse cult are known to history as Hanifs.
The Hanifs were strict monotheists, they believed in a future life, with its eternal punishments and eternal rewards, they abstained from wine and they practiced other austerities. Mecca had some Hanifs and some of them were from the lineage of Khadijah, the very first wife of the many wives of Mohammad. One of them was her first cousin, Waraqa bin Naufal, a.k.a. Waraka. It was through Waraqa bin Naufal, a first cousin of his first wife, that Mohammad came under the influence of this cult and thus Mohammad himself became a Hanif.
Waraqa bin Naufal teamed up with Ubaydullah bin Jahsh, Uthman bin al-Huwayrith and Zayd bin ‘Amr. These four men were of the opinion that their people had corrupted the religion of their father Abraham and that the stone cube they went around in a pagan ritual was insignificant because it could neither hear nor see nor could it do anything, as is true of all other pagan idols. So it came about that these four monotheists did not believe in the pagan ritual of circumabulating the Kaaba. It is interesting to note that it is ironic that this pagan ritual was later embraced by the Islamics and is still in use today, despite the Islamic claim that their religion is not pagan!
Waraqa bin Naufal was one of the very few people in Mecca who were educated. He is to have translated the Bible from Hebrew into Arabic. He had also read other books written by Jewish and Christian theologians. He was searching for the truth. It is not surprising, therefore, that Khadijah, the very first of the many wives of Mohammad, would be very strongly influenced by the opinions of Waraqa, her first cousin. She shared his contempt for pagan idols and pagan idolaters. Just like Waraqa and various other members of her family, she also was a follower of Abraham and Ismael.
Mohammad the Hanif
The Hanif, Mohammad, began to spend more and more time in the hill caves near Mecca. It was during one of these periods of solitary contemplation, when he was about forty years old, that he claims he received his prophetic mission.
Sometime before 611 A.D., Mohammad began to have epileptic seizures. When Mohammad was 40 years old [611 A.D.], he had apparently refined the teachings of the first cousin of his first wife (Khadijah), namely, Waraqa bin Naufal, a co-founder of the cult of the Hanifs in Mecca. Just as the Hanifs, he also wanted to restore his country to the purity of primitive monotheism. To this end, he formed the scheme of establishing a cult, or, as he expressed it, a new religion which would abolish the gross idolatry into which his countrymen had fallen and of replanting the only true and ancient religion professed by Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and all the prophets, which consisted chiefly in the worship of only one God.
Mohammad the Cult-Founder
He claimed to be the “Prophet of God.” He claimed that his spasmodic convulsions, which were happening more and more frequently, were nothing more than heavenly visions in which, he alleged, that Saint Gabriel (Jibreel) the Archangel appeared to him and commanded him to restore what he termed the religion of Abraham. Mohammad named this new cult, which he considered to be a religion, Islam, that is, “submission to God,” whence his followers are called “Moslems,” or “Mussulmans”, that is, “dedicated to God.” Mohammed maintained that a great number of prophets had been divinely commissioned at various times, chief among whom were Adam, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus, but that he was superior to all of them. Mohammad pretended that his divine mission was clearly foretold in the writings of both Jews and Christians, whom he charged with having corrupted the Scriptures and suppressed the prophecies bearing witness to himself.
In reality, the actual basis for such pretensions was a combination of things. Some of his teachings he claimed to have found in the Old and New Testament editions which had apparently been translated into Arabic by Waraqa bin Naufal. From this questionable translation, he had collected lofty maxims which he mingled with the pagan folklore of his country and with his own schizophrenic hallucinations and imaginings.
It was from this cacophony of mutual contradictions that he made up his own sundry doctrines. Their moral application is summed up in Islam, that is, in abandonment, in submission to an almighty God, placed very high above the world. At the outset, the character of the self-proclaimed “prophet” appeared gentle and calm. Yet strange phenomena and convulsive crises became more frequent as his fame began to spread.
But his man-made “doctrines” lost their earlier simplicity. In his suras, or maxims, the collection of which forms that unequal and incongruous book known as the Qur’an, a.k.a. Koran (Reading), he taught the oneness and omnipotence of God, sanctioned polygamy, and offered, as a reward to the faithful of Islam, the eternal joys of a promised land where, far from all sin, under the cool shade of trees, they would enjoy delicious drinks in silver goblets and would eat exquisite fruit in a paradise overflowing with sexual delights. He prescribed prayers, fasting, ablutions, pilgrimages to Mecca with processional encircling of the Kaaba. He recommended union and solidarity among the believers of Islam.
He said: “O believers, give alms from the best things you have acquired, from the fruits which you have made the earth bring forth...You will attain perfect piety only when you have given alms of what you cherish most.”
Regarding non-believers, his teachings varied. At times he counseled tolerance, saying: “Listen not to the infidels or the hypocrites; but do them no ill.” But more frequently, he ordered a war to the death. “Make war on those who do not believe in God or in the last day.” He says: “When you meet any infidels, kill them, to the point of making a great carnage, and you will tighten the shackles.”
Why is there such a variance in the teachings of Mohammad? Did he have two totally different personalities? Besides suffering from more and more frequent epileptic seizures, he was apparently also suffering from advanced schizophrenia, far beyond dementia praecox.
Was there anything which could have triggered such advanced schizophrenia? It seems reasonable to take the position that most probably the suras which recommended tolerance and mildness date from the early days of Mohammad?s preaching. But it is self-evident to those who study his character, that it definitely changed after he had begun to attract followers in Mecca, and most especially after the two rival armed tribes in Medina joined his cult.
There seems to be an unanimity with all of the historical data to which We have had access, to wit, that when Mohammad first began to preach his own man-made-up hybrid religion, he was not a violent person. If anything, he seems to have been humble and meek like Christ. Assuredly, today there seem to be various Moslem leaders who are like this. Perhaps this explains why President Bush and other have said that Islam is a religion of peace?
During this first preaching tour in Mecca, he was persecuted for preaching his home-made religion, Islamism, and also for denigrating the pagan religions of the inhabitants of Mecca. Some of the followers of Mohammad were tortured. Things became so bad for him and his handful of followers, that he apparently sent most of them to Abyssinia, a.k.a. Ethiopia, for a safe place of refuge. Eventually the persecutions forced him and the rest of his followers to move north to Yathrib, a.k.a. Medina, where a few members of two Arab tribes wanted Mohammad to be their prophet.
However, shortly before Mohammad and the remainder of his group left to go to Medina, he had another epileptic seizure. He used this seizure as his basis upon which to claim that he had received
a “revelation” which permitted him and his group to fight the people of Mecca. He knew that in Medina there was an armed group of men who would not only support him, but fight on his behalf. He was also aware that if he and the remainder of his small group now in Mecca went to Medina that geographically they would farther away from their pagan persecutors in Mecca whom he felt might try to kill him.

Sounds like Danny may have given up one lethal drug-habit for another. Or, perhaps he decided to keep both. He also sounds like he's into homoerotic dress up ventures. Watch out world.

Celsius - alternatively .. how about a Santa Claus beard? He could dye it red, pluck his ass hair and squeeze into little Ayisha dresses .. a la Muhammad. Additionally, a Santa beard seems more in keeping w/Mr. Maldonado's probable religious roots - providing an interesting opportunity for a display of that famous Islamic tolerance! (And I know we can count on Santa's kind understanding .. worse thing that can happen is Danny gets some coal in his stocking this Christmas .. no sweat).

Abrog8 notes about his PC friend that --

"He is well educated in religion in general, but has totally bought into the Islam religion of peace mantra..." [bold emphasis added]

I would say, rather, that his PC friend has bought into that mantra not despite his education in religion in general, but precisely because of it, insofar as most education in comparative religions today in high schools and colleges throughout the West is solidly wired into the dominant and mainstream PC multiculturalist template. And most education is so wired not (for the most part) for any nefarious reasons due to a sinister cabal pulling strings behind the scenes, but simply because they are following the groove and grain of the dominant and mainstream common sense of PC multiculturalism.

LOL Is this a personal attack blog? I would give up my place in medical school If I were made to choose. Islam for me means salvation from misery in this life and eternal happiness in the life after I die. I can't wait to meet my Lord with good deeds.

Isam, a one time chance to live your life according to the will of God. Mark my words, If you die in Kufr, disbelief, by Allah who has created all that exists, you will wish

40. Verily, We have warned you of a Penalty near, the Day when man will see (the deeds) which his hands have sent forth, and the Unbeliever will say, "Woe unto me! Would that I were (mere) dust!"

Islam is in many ways resentment masquerading as religion, particularly to the down-and-out, discriminated against types that it appeals to. We will never totally stamp it out. For the female converts, it offers the traditional female submissive role, which is appealing to many women, but is devalued in our feminist, and feminized, culture. Our best hope is to educate people (which we are doing quite well, in my humble opinion, simply by making the truth about Islam available online), and let Muslims whose lives are benighted by Islam know there is a way out. I personally know an ex-Muslim. It is possible, at least in America, for people to free themselves of slavery to a false God.

hmmm...I disagree with some of which I'm reading here. I think it is a huge danger to write-off "converts" as stupid, marginal, and criminal. Yes, many converts are societal rejects in search of "something" -- but I don't think this describes all of them. (there's that Canadian convert from Anglicanism who's now head of some Islamic North American society -- she has a phd...I could dredge up the info on her..Jihadwatch has also gone over her "biography" -- I can't recall her name.)

Anyway, the point is this -- if Islam appealed only to the rejects (like wannabe KKKers), who would really care? It's not the criminal element which poses the gravest threat. It's when you get Islamists into Immigration Board and Refugee Boards; it's when you get Heads of Faculties at Universities (who'll have no qualms about firing anyone who doesn't toe the Islamist agenda or firing anyone who does not see it as a great, amazing boon to have University X paired with al-Azhar in Cairo); when Islamists head up Media Groups (control public broadcasts); head up Financial Investment Houses and Real Estate agencies; become Members of Parliament; become prominent Editorialists for national newspapers; etc., etc. These are the "problem" people -- not your run-of-the-mill petty criminal.

And, "no", Islam doesn't just appeal to the "mentally disturbed" (yes, there are those who are mentally disturbed who will be attracted to Islam, but this is not the end all and be all).

Other brief notes:
1) I've heard (read) that "man-made laws" are not just a potential problem for Islam. I've heard that man-made laws are "cursed laws." This, btw, is standard Islamic fare -- with the epithet appended to phrases. These epithets punctuate the conversations -- it's a form of ritualized, pre-packaged thinking...ritualized speech codes. So, whenever one thinks "man-made laws" an Islamic religion person thinks "cursed laws."

2) About the nun-like appearance of the Islamist women. I believe this is also used for Da'wa purposes (or to win-over Christians to the Palestinian "cause"). A few years ago I came across a pro-Palestinian article published in an Anglican (or was it Catholic?) website. The picture of the female -- it was completely stylized -- so that instantly one thought -- "Virgin Mary?" It looked identical to pictures one sees of the Virgin Mary...but, no, it was a Palestinian woman, dressed up to look like the Virgin Mary, and the article was presenting the Pal story of victimhood, and what a great and holy deed to become a suicide bomber, etc. (I note, sarcastically, that riots did not follow the publication of said picture/photo -- like, where's the outrage from presenting the Virgin Mary as a mass murdering Palestinian mother of 20, eh?)

Anyway, don't underestimate the enemy...

@Abdullah

I am a revert to Islam. I'm sure that meets with your approval. I have reverted to the Shia version, however.

Which sect do you belong to?

What makes me think the shia should rule? Well, that's what Muhammad said. To wit:
"Ali's many personal qualities are amply attested to in various histories and collections of Traditions. Among the statements regarding Ali and his family made by the Prophet and accepted as authentic by both Sunnis and Shi'is are the following:
1. There is no youth braver than Ali.
2. No-one but a believer loves Ali and no-one but a hypocrite (munafiq) hates Ali.
3. I am from Ali and Ali is from me.
4. The truth circulates with him (Ali) wherever he goes.
5. I am the City of Knowledge and Ali is its Gate (Bab).
6. On one occasion the Prophet was about to eat some poultry and he said: 'O God! Send me the man you love most among mankind to eat this food with me.' And Ali came and ate with him.
7. The Prophet said in reply to someone who had complained about Ali: ' What do you think of one who loves God and his Prophet and who in turn is loved by God and his Prophet?' Also: 'The most loved of women to the Prophet of God is Fatima and the most loved of men is Ali.'
And then there's the Farewell Pilgrimage address from the account given in Ibn Hanbal, a Sunni collection of hadith:
We were with the Apostle of God in his journey and we stopped at Ghadir Khumm. We performed the obligatory prayer together and a place was swept for the Apostle under two trees and he performed the mid-day prayer. And then he took Ali by the hand and said to the people: 'Do you not acknowledge that I have a greater claim on each of the believers than they have on themselves?' And they replied: 'Yes!' And he took Ali's hand and said: "Of whomsoever I am Lord (Mawla), then Ali is also his Lord. O God! Be Thou the supporter of whoever supports Ali and the enemy of whoever opposes him." And the Umar met him (Ali) after this and sais to him: 'Congratulations, O son of Abu Talib! Now morning and evening (i.e. forever) you are the master of every believing man and woman.'
Looks to me like you've been backing the wrong side...Hmmmmm?

Ynkedoodi you and the shia are Jews trying to pervert the cause of Islam.

For the sake of argument, AbeDull, let's suppose for a nanosecond that you (of all people) become a doctor. So, herr Doktor, a patient arrives whom you know to be a Shia...what do you do, poison him?

LOOOL People stop making me out to be evil....I am not evil by nature...

I will treat everyone equally regardless of religion or race. My personal feelings stop at the door of the profession.

I will treat even the dieing Jew. Why not?

Well, of course, you'll "treat" even the dieing Jew...that'd be with arsenic or thallium? (as in, just makin' sure he's really "dieing"-- just by way of a little insurance, eh?)

abdullah, you arrogant bigot. You would "treat even the dying Jew." How generous of you. Has it occurred to you that the Jewish and Christian contributions to modern medical science greatly eclipses that of your co-religionists; without that contribution; you would likely be dying right now of polio?

"I know more Muslim reverts than born Muslims today by the grace of Allah, the most high. So many that they want to form a club of reverts...I must also add western women look very pretty/beautiful in the Islamic dress...Have you seen one? Come to west/london."

.....this, abdullah, sounds like a major come-on. it sounds like you are trying to sexually entice non-muslims to islam. unfortunately, it wont work with me, as ive seen too many big fat ugly muslim women - lol!

It seems converts to Islam are seeking certainty. There's a very interesting article here-

http://khalas.wordpress.com/

-written by a young man who "reverted" to Islam and then gave it up.

Unfortunately, here in the West, we have so many choices, so much information, so much relativism... apparently those who have no certainty within themselves seek certainty in Islam.

(It also seems that Islam is very attractive both to those who want to dominate, and those who want to be subjugated: bullies and masochists. But that's another topic!)

There's also an interesting article by Christopher Hitchens in Slate today:

http://www.slate.com/id/2165033/entry/2165038/

It's an excerpt from his new book, and describes the collecting of verses now included in the Qu'ran as infallible and written-by-God.
