MIRAMSHAH, May 7: The local Taliban Shoora on Monday imposed a ban on sale of CDs and cassettes and music in buses and passenger coaches in North Waziristan.The Shoora also ordered owners of music and video shops in Miramshah to wind up their businesses immediately.
Armed volunteers raided music centres and CD shops in the town and asked the shopkeepers to stop playing music.
Eyewitnesses said the militants stopped passenger vehicles on the Miramshah-Mirali road and removed cassette and CD players.
Locals said that the militants, who virtually control the region, also asked people not to play or listen to music at public places, including Miramshah Bazaar.
The Shoora announcement said that anybody violating the order would have to face ‘consequences’.
Anwarullah Khan adds from Khar in Bajaur Agency: Most music shops and hair-cutting salons here have been closed and their owners have switched to other businesses.
Some of them moved out of the agency after pro-Taliban militants bombed their shops over the past weeks.
Last week, armed men set up road blocks in different areas and stopped private and public transport vehicles to search for cassette and CD players.
They seized cassettes and players from several vehicles and smashed them on the spot. Masked gunmen also warned clean-shaven commuters to grow beard or face punishment.
They also ordered passengers to remove musical ring tones from their cell phones and not to use mobile phones with built-in camera....
They said that the board of governors of the Bajaur Public School and College, an English medium institution run by the political administration, had changed students’ uniform from shirt and trousers to shalwar-kameez after they received threats and ‘orders’ to stop using ‘western uniform.’

Now I know what to do with all the old torn sheets used for hallowwen ghost costumes and all the old torn up and bloodied "zombie" halloween costumes ... send them all over to those taliban jerks who want everyone to look (and act) filthy and backwards like them and their filthy old "prophet" dude.

Where I used to live, there were guys who did that, although they waited until you weren't in the car. I think these guys are pretty much in the same league, morally.
They also ordered passengers to remove musical ring tones from their cell phones and not to use mobile phones with built-in camera...
But the cellphone itself is sharia-compliant? Who knew? Is there no end to their stupidity?
Sometimes, when I read articles like this, I take heart - it sometimes seems as though Islam is in the process of destroting itself, of imploding under the weight of its own manifest absurdities

This area which was already islamic for quite some time now is now going through an interesting phase that the islamic paradise of afghanistan went through in the last century. It is going higher up in the plane of jihad. And incidents of "higher plane of jihad and islamic purity" are also occuring in the provinces of Sindh, Baloochistan and Punjab. Expect more such "my islam is purer than yours" and "my jihad is better than yours" and "my allah is better than yours" in these areas. This is the ultimate fate of all areas falling to islam that don't have crude. "Higher jihad".

They fail to mention that not ALL tapes are banned - you are allowed to boogie to hate sermons. Khomeini came to power with cassette tapes of his speeches given away by the millions.

How interesting that I found this link at the bottom of the Snapshot page with the article about dhimmitude at George Mason University! I thought good Muslims could have a cell phone, but not a ringtone! apparently not!

Just more proof that Islam is souless. A world without music?i can't think of a thing more deoressing. Muslic is in the human soul and it has been an itegral part of human developement from the start. what's next ? , they gonna start shooting birds for singing too?

Just as an inquiry, does anyone knwo exactly what types of ethnic groups are present in Waziristan? I know in the Punjab region, obviously, the Paki "Punjabs" dominate, as well as in the country, while putting their power support behind al-qaeda, the taliban and spreading political islam by force in the other provinces, often against the will of local population. The Sindh is ethnic Sindhis, most of whom are very liberal and secularist, with 1.5 to 2 million who are still Hindus. And of course, many Pak Punjabs and Mohajirs, (descendents of Indian muslim immigrants), who've basically trashed the province over the last 50 years. And ovbiously, Balochistan is made up of Baloch, often secularist, liberal muslim or even atheist with some Hindus and Christians mixed in, as well as Pushtuns. THe Northern Areas and Azad Kashmir are as well composed of separate peoples who want freedom from Pakiworld.
Hence, what about Waziristan? Is it consisting of Pashtuns, Pak Punjabs, Mohajirs of a different ethnicity? To what extent is the local popualtion and peoples supportive or symnpathetic to al qaeda, the taliban, the Pak ISI, or the endless number of homegrown Paki Islamist groups?

Chiefly waziris and masouds populate waziristan. The pakis never could control these areas and now have finally granted independence to these people. (The fact that paki army won't go in there is in my opinion granting independence.) The pashtuns are further West, and as far as sheer ruthlessness is concerned, are the most wild people in that area.

Well that’s put an end to the musical career of Showmeyur Turbanne, whose last album ‘My beard’s on fire with the Religion of Peace’ was indeed a cracker! It should go without saying that the Joni Mitchell of Islam, Ineeda Kurrie will also be missed, her recent recording of that classic ‘Big yellow Burka’ was heading for platinum.
