As anyone who has kept up with reports coming from Iraq knows, the Pope's worries are well founded. Brave New Democratic Iraq, the Light Unto the Muslim Nations, doesn't seem to have much of a place for Christians. Does Bush realize how hollow this makes his fledgling democracy (as if more confirmation were needed)? Does he care? Did he tell the Pope he would make sure that Christians in Iraq were protected?
"Bush, Pope discuss war in Iraq," by Jennifer Loven for Associated Press (thanks to all who sent this in):
ROME - President Bush said Saturday that and he and Pope Benedict XVI discussed the pontiff's deep worries that Christians in Iraq would not be embraced by the Muslim majority."We didn't talk about just war," Bush said in a news conference with Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi during a swing through Europe.
"He was concerned that the society that was evolving would not tolerate the Christian religion. ... He's worrisome about the Christians inside Iraq being mistreated by the Muslim majority."

Do either of them really understand the pervasive nature of the threat? I think the Pope does given his knowledge of history. Whether he is willing to act on it, is another question. As for Bush, well he has no political capital and is one very lame liberal Repubican duck. He will do nothing!

What the hell does GWB care?
He knew what the Iraqi Islamic Constitution was turning into in the incompetant hands of his appointed political hacks...and what it would decree.
He knew that it would essentially institute Muslim Sharia Law as the trump card for all legal decisions.
A system that requires the dhimmis to convert, pay the protection money, or be killed.
Will GWB shell out the jizyah from our tax dollars?
What other alternative has he given us- and the Iraqi non-Muslims- since he allowed an Islamic State to be built upon our secular miltary conquest of Iraq?
If you don't get the fundamentals right, you lose the rest.
A house built on sand...
A head made of wishes.

Bush isn't a Christian any more than I'm an alien from Mars. He's an agent for corporate interests like all American presidents. In the case of Iran, there is a concrete threat to the global supremacy (read: petrodollar recycling-system / oilprice) of the USA so he takes a hostile attitude towards that country. Conversely the European countries are reluctant to help because many of them would like to see the USA weakened. But Bush's stance on Iran is a coincidence rather than a firm stand against Islam. For strategic reasons he maintains good relations with thuggish countries like Pakistan, Egypt, Saudi-Arabia, Turkey ect. Bush is NOT the man to lead the west to victory against Islam, he can be bribed and manipulated like almost all other western leaders.
Islam has made progress and has become more, not less, powerful during his tenure. He's responsible for creating conditions in Iraq leading to the slaughter and persecution of non-islamic communities. He has hardly lifted a finger to capture bin Laden and other top Al-Quaeda leaders, because doing so might reduce his "I'm-a-wartime-president" popularity. Remember the first Gulf war in 1991? Bush Senior was hugely popular immediately after that succesful and fast war but I didn't stop him losing the presidency the year after. Well, it seems like Bush Junior learned the lesson from his father and that lesson goes; "Don't stop the war too quickly". If he had completely wiped out the Al-Quaeda in 2002-03 would he have been reelected in 2004? Or if he hadn't invaded Iraq in 2003? It's doubtful, because he wouldn't have had the benefit of the wartime president-effect anymore.
We need a leader in the western world who dare to say that we are engaged in an allout war against Islam. Not just extremist elements within Islam, but with the entire philosofy of that belief-systemand and it's followers. If the USA can't produce such a man, I hope another country somewhere will be able to do it.

We pay a heavy jizya to Lebanon already and Syria NOT to attack Israel! That sure is some road condi! Guess we need to pay more not to attack Iraq!
Rediculious! Mr. Bush if he remembers they just shipped 3,000 of those Iraqi's here to Detroit, all paid for and living expense's too!

Why are they just worried about Iraq? Take a look at any of the places where Islam is the commanding political system and you will find other religions are not treated as equals and you will see where some border on intimidation or persecution. Neither of these so called leaders dare to mention that for fear of the Islamic backlash.
P.s: The Sawdis are the worst example of religious toleration but suffering exists in so called "moderate" Muslim countries like Malaysia and Indonesia. As the Fundamentalists seep deeper intp the political system, the stronger the persecution of unbelievers.

the best thing Bush could do for the Christians in Iraq is provided green cards and free flights to the USA where they would be beyond the reach of the Islamic groups that want to slaughter them or force them to convert

Anything GWB establishes would be part of the American empire.
Is there some reason to believe that the Assyrians have some military organization that is capable of mounting a sustained resistance against the mohammedans ????
Where would the US ship the guns?
What commander should the US support?
What's the chance of his standing out the year?

The one thing that gets American attention, sympathy, and then help, is if one attacks America. I belive Groucho Marx noted this in one of his movies.
