This vision, by the President of al-Azhar, of Muslims being carefully kept abreast of the precise limits to the force and aim of their punches by a bunch of Slapsie Maxie Muftis, as they try to keep those "seductive" women (strange, but the Muslim women one sees on television hardly ever meet Western man's minimal idea of "seductiveness") in line, hardly accords with the ingrid-mattson-abu-lughod line of how wonderfully in Islam women are treated, not as "sex objects" as in the bad old Infidel world, but as wonderful creatures in their own right. Yet here we have the highest authority in Sunni Islam telling us that women are all about sex and nothing but sex, with their power derived not from superior morality or tenderness or intelligence, but only from their satanic powers of sexual, not intellectual, seduction.

One looks forward to Western feminists, worrying over such things as "glass ceilings" for female executives, and the male gaze, telling us what they think of the advice dispensed by the president of al-Azhar and former Mufti of Egypt. Or will there be silence? Or a pretense that he has no authority to speak, but is merely a lone mad mufti, possibly punch-drunk himself, in every sense?

I had so many delusions about Islam prior to 2001. Even after going to Suadi Arabia in 1999 for Operation Southern Watch and I was shocked that I could show my cross around my neck. I think back to that time and laugh at how nieve I was... I thought I could take a bus to Isreal and go on a tour around to see the "culture"... YIPE!

Since 2001 I have been determined to understand Islam (know thy enemy). Been to Iraq twice and been a faithful JW reader. One of the most outstanding characteristics I have seen has been what Plague posted above:

Basically, islam is a 'religion' that says it is ok for a male to do absolutely anything he wants to do - just don't do it against the imams, clerics, and whoever is the ruler (unless the clerics and/or imams don't like him and then tell you to kill him). If you do, then you will pay for it. There is no goal to attain anything higher than the basest of animal urges. The difference being that an animal is without reason, while a human has reason and makes choices. So what, or who, is worse - the animal or the male who choses this way of life?

What Al-Tayyeb can't get his feeble little brain around, when accusing non--Muslims of 'villainous' interpretations of the unholy Koran is that in our free Western culture the can be no concept of a "rebellious wife" (or husband for that matter). Marriage in a free society is a union, an agreement between equals, a mutually negotiated contract, there is not, as in Islam an issue of property rights or ownership where one party is owned by, and subservient to the other.

The very notion of "rebellious" requires ownership or at the very least 'authority over' and those with the belief of genetic male superiority are doomed to live in fear of the Bobbit Job, which always, but always, presents as violence towards women.

The concept of them not owning their wives is probably beyond them. They are bringing their ways here in the USA, and have already done so in Europe and elsewhere. We have many who not only beat their wives, but are practicing the 'up to 4 wives per male' and are also marrying children.

Mostly you only get glimpses into what they are doing by digging because our mainstream press doesn't report on these things because of their practice of appeasing the muslims while bashing us who don't agree with them. Several 'sanctuary' cities are allowing the muslims to get away with this, and NYC is one of them. There are others, and I would bet that some cities don't even have a clue that it is happening.

I came across an article about a Saudi family bringing their slave into the USA. A couple of months later I tried to find that article and no matter what search words I put in I couldn't find it. CAIR also has an influence on our news media, and other institutions, to successfully censor articles that are not nice to islam and its ways.

I don't know how dhimmiwatch.org and jihadwatch.org stays alive in our current environment of the ACLU, CAIR, etc - but I am thankful that they do.

Failing to have dinner ready when the King of the Castle arrives home after a hard-days' work (doing....what)? Correcting him when he mispronounces the name of one of his 26 children? I am beginning to see a real benefit in having our own "mufti" here in the U.S.A. These jokers seem to follow the principle "open mouth, insert foot" every time they try to defend Islam. They are making it so easy to expose Islam for the hateful, violent, misogynist death cult that it is.

The catmeat shiek/mufti in Australia exposes Islam's backwardness in defense of male superiority and female immorality by claiming thousands of Australian women who do not viel and who wear western dress are asking to be raped;

Within a day or two of new appointment, his successor mufti exposes his ignorance and attempts to defend Osmam Bin Laden by claiming OBL was not resposnsible for 9/11 (despite OBL admitting and taking pride in his cowardly act);

The mufti of Egypt now attempts to defend violence against women with this distintion without a difference between beating and punching, shoving or poking "rebellious" wives.

They're making it too easy. I say we petition get our own mufti here in the U.S. Give 'em a half hour prime time news show every week to let him preach his hate and ignorance for the nation to see what Islam is really all about.

Why even liberals like Rosie O'Donnell would start taking shots at him ( particularly if mr mufti is given an opportunity to preach about the Koran's viwes on gays). NOW might even take a position opposing such ludicrous arguments in support of "shoving and poking" rebellious women.

The president of al-Azhar shows just how immoral and evil Islam really is. The greatest evidence of that evil is not Islam's opposition to Israel, the West, the U.S., Jews, etc. but al-Azhar's refusal to issue fatwas against bin Laden, Zawahiri, suicide bombers, etc., especially when those terrorists concoct plans against civilians who are fellow Muslims! Apparently, not even member of the Dar al-Islam can (or should) be spared from what Fouad Ajami accurately callsthe "beligerent self-pity" that defines Arab-Muslim culture.

Indeed, Islam is just another expression of that beligerent self-pity.
