French military aid to Libya

In an earlier post, I discussed the nuclear gift that French President Sarkozy bestowed upon the Libyan nation. Apparently, there is more. Lots more. And of course, Sarkozy denies it all.

"Sarkozy denies reports of weapons deals to Libya," by Yaniv Salama-Scheer for the Jerusalem Post:

According to French President Nicolas Sarkozy, no military accords or weapons packages were part of the deals struck between France and Libya to secure the release of five Bulgarian nurses and a Palestinian doctor from Libya last week.

Sarkozy was responding to claims made by Saif Gadaffi el-Islam, son of Libyan leader Muammar Gadaffi, to the effect that Libya had brokered military aid from France, consisting of French made "Milan" anti-tank missiles, as well as joint Franco-Libyan manufacturing of military equipment. The younger Gadaffi made the claims in an interview with the French daily Le Monde, which he had requested in order to "clarify certain points," regarding the deals made by the president's wife, Cecilia, and EU external affairs commissioner Benita Ferraro-Waldner.

The agreement between Paris and Tripoli, Gaddafi said, would see "joint military exercises," along with the purchase of defense technology for "100 million euros." Gaddafi also said that the significance of the deal was highly important as it was "the first such deal between Libya and a western country," since the lifting in 2004 of the arms embargo placed on Tripoli.

Gaddafi also said that at the time of the interview, representatives from Thales and Sagem, French technology companies that manufacture military avionics systems, were currently in Libya; proof, according to Gadaffi, of good relations between the two countries. He also said that his father could possibly even go to Paris himself to sign the "contracts in question."

I can just imagine Muammar being turned lose in the streets of Paris. Mothers, lock your doors!

Furthermore, Gaddafi also said that a deal to release Abdel Basset Ali al-Megrahi, who is in jail in England for the Lockerbie bombings in 1988 in which 270 people were killed, had been finalized. "We will soon have an agreement on extradition with the United Kingdom," and explained the Libyan representatives had already been sent to London to hammer out the specifics on Megrahi's release.

Amnesty for an animal who took part in the murder of 270 innocent people is a travesty.

Sarkozy is beginning to resemble Chirac in the worst possible way.

Gadaffi's tailor is a genius! I don't know about his barber, though.

Just a short time ago a fawning Francophilic fabulist at this site said "Sarkozy will do for now." and suggested we need reconcilliation with the degenerate nation of France.

But Sarkozy is another in a long line of French Pimps working the World's streets and gutters for the benefit of the French Nation, or, as I call it, the Latter Day Whore of Babylon.

How many of the world's problems can be traced directly back to the heinousness, cowardice, and treachery of France?

Whether we're talking about the rape of Europe, Africa, and Russia under the proto-Hitler Napoleon in the 19th Century in which 10s of millions died mercilessly, their historic blunderings in virtually every colonial holding they mismanaged, the craven Treaty of Versailles and it's inevitable result in WW2, France's abject surrender to and participation with Nazi fascism in same, their war in Indochine which embroiled the U.S. in Viet Nam, their vile selling of the worst weapons to the worst regimes in the world including Pakistan, Libya, North Korea, etc., their supplying of nuclear supplies and technology to every bad actor for 50 years, their open-legged policy to lure the Islamic rapist into the very heart of Europe, their spearheading of the nightmare EU dystopia, their betrayals of the U.S. in the immediate aftermath of 9/11, or those obnoxius berets -- France ranks at the absolute top as the absolute worst nation that exists in Europe.

If the UK government releases the Lockerbie murderer it WILL cost them at the polls if the papers ram it down the publics throat.

And votes is all this Labour government cares about.

There is a beautiful Norman Church in the village where I grew up. It has been added too over the years a cedar of Lebanon stands outside the Elizabethan porch. Some 600 year old Yew tree adorn the old church yard and there are plenty of lime trees and Ash trees. It really is a beautiful fairy tale place to get married, a young local couple decided to get married there. I didn't know them but I know the families. They left the reception early to fly to America for their honeymoon. The next service held in that beautiful church, was their funeral they had been blown out of the air over Lockerbie. They are buried near one of the Ash trees. A beautiful quiet simple grave. Since then we have been through an expensive farce putting away a couple of thugs while the real villain walked free. The picture of him above looks like death warmed up. The last time I came in contact with this wild animal was about 4 years ago. The E.U. had rehabilitated him and had invited him to Brussels. I was stuck in a traffic jam waiting while he was whisked from the Airport under heavy police escort to his air conditioned Bedouin tent which they had allowed him to pitch in one of the parks. You can guess how I was feeling. I have always had a low opinion of the Commission but that day it dropped off the scale they had there collective noses so far up up his anal orifice that they could have tickled his tonsils. Next time you have a go at him America make sure you get him.

Libya isn't a threat. Why, because Reagan bombed them when they attacked American interests. Condemned by the world, he got the message.
Let them buy all the arms they like, so they can dream dreams of their military might. We all know Libya would fold like a pack of cards if attacked.
If we were as hard with the other nations, that are the West's enemies, we'd have the same response.
While grinning halfwits like Rice are in top jobs, we'll never get anywhere.

his jacket is so 80's, looks like he went partying with the crew from battle star galaticca and woke up dressed as one of the space troops. seriously though, LOOK AT HIM! is it leather? what is it made from?

if the iranian "fashion" police got hold of him without realising who he was, they would cut that western hairdo and stamp on his western sun glasses. he looks like a playboy! albeit a really cheesy one.

Are you sure he was alive when that photo was taken? It reminds me of the antique post-mortem photos on ebay. Ewwwwww.

That seems as if it is a doctored photo'. If it is then why is a reputatble site like this using it?

BTW, do any of you know how many Frenchmen it takes to defend Paris?

Of course you don't. No-one does, for it's never been tried.

Cruel, but funny.

Mr. Spencer:

Excellent find. In fact, I meant to send this to you. However, what you missed in posting this was the real story here of Barbary piracy: 6 or so Bulgarians medical workers (who were falsely accused of spreading AIDS to Libyan children) were released from detention after years of ridiculous legal battles which culminated in death sentences compliments of the Libyan “justice” system. Bulgaria did not and does not have the money needed to secure their release. It is clear that their release is nothing more than piracy (in exchange for a poll tax) in our modern age.

France is doubtless seeking to lead the EU, but in its misguided vision, it believes that by opening the large EU purse in the same way Venetian merchants (and so many others) had to when confronted with marauding Barbary corsairs (who sought both white slaves and booty), it will maintain its coveted leadership position in the EU. In fact, France is acting to undermine its own security vis a vis future hostage taking.

It is widely believed that France and/or the EU provided 400 million dollars (via a Gulf state) to Libya in exchange for the Bulgarians' release. Each Libyan family "victim" would also receive a sum of money. But that’s not all. Libya also demanded that cross-country roads be built as well as receiving a promise for better relations with the EU, all in exchange for the release of the Dhimmi "criminals". They apparently also got missiles. (Just what they needed to engage in more Barbary piracy.)

We are back to Libya being a Barbary state. Why wouldnt it be? The message to Libya is clear: Dhimmis value the lives of other dhimmis and will pay exorbitant amounts to free them.

This is a good opportunity to reacquaint readers who might not have been aware of Barbary piracy - to what the more real pirates were like (not some Hollywood comical version of what a pirate was). For an excellent introductory article written about that subject by Christopher Hitchens, click here.

May I suggest the "first Black President" - one Mr. William Jefferson Clinton?

He's run out of term limits stateside..

Perfectly good and functioning.. in all areas.. slightly used "Black" [even if white in appearance] former American President available to fill any Presidential position that will provide my client with reasonable amounts of free time... and more importantly.. time away from his shrill and unattractive nagging wife.

My client is uniquely experienced as a former President of a large Industrial Nation.

Compensation is negotiable. Steady access to HOT booty would go a very looong way toward motivating my client to go back to Work as a Head of State once again!

Hello, Africa.. here comes Your "first Black President"... HAVE FUN!!!!

How about a NATO military intervention?! And how about making it clear to all these moslem countries that we will no longer allow any of our citizens to travel there. And should they decide to do so regadless they will be ON THEIR OWN!

There are military options that can be brought to bear which will make holding on to the hostages a losing proposition.

Appeasement only breeds forther hostage taking.

See Pavlov's dog, see Hitler...

The only bigger blowhard in the entire world than Dubya is Gadaffi. Maybe they should set up a WBA.

World Blowhard Association.

Gadaffi folds every single time he's confronted.

Every time.

When he tried to move into Chad all those years ago, it was the French who provided the miniscule Chadian army with intel that helped them wipe out Lybia's armoured units.

Even the frightful Wikipedia has soem juicy stuff on it

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_War

What we're seeing here is just plain old greed talking. All those countries - Russia, the US, the UK, France- are simply making a ton of money from all those Arab countries liquidity. Selling them shit they'll never use, hopefully

Yes, Sarkozy at his worst is no better than any number of Western leaders. However he does have his moments. Unlike Dubya, Blair, Brown "aka Blair the Revenge"

I mean, really. If the Eiffel Tower is ever targeted do you really think the French leader's first speech would be titled "Islam the Religion of Peace"

a la Bush ?

And in the first week following the attack the only people allowed to use French airspace are the terrorists' families?

A la Bush aussi?

Some lessons on great moments in French history for our silly Francophiles here.
