When such words are uttered, an immediate response, quoting chapter and verse from the Qur'an, is required in order to demonstrate where the bigotry, prejuidice and stereotyping are coming from. For instance, Qur'an 5:51: "O ye who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians for friends. They are friends one to another. He among you who taketh them for friends is (one) of them. Lo! Allah guideth not wrongdoing folk." Or maybe Qur'an 8:12 "When thy Lord inspired the angels, (saying): I am with you. So make those who believe stand firm. I will throw fear into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Then smite the necks and smite of them each finger."

And one could always bring up racism. It's not as lurid as the head-chopping verses, but it helps put charges of bigotry into perspective. For instance Bukhari 9:89:256 "Allah's Apostle said, 'You should listen to and obey, your ruler even if he was an Ethiopian (black) slave whose head looks like a raisin.'"

You get the idea. It's dead easy to come up with examples.

Hebrews *are* the indigenous people of Israel. However, the Muslim world denies that historical fact. They claim that the European Jewish refugees from the Second World War were not indigenous to Israel and therefore have no rights to the country. Hence, the statement that some Muslims have made in the media to the effect that, "Even if the Holocaust did happen, why should we suffer and be thrown out of our homeland because of it?"

They also claim that the "Palestinian" people are indigenous to Israel. And hasn't the UN said that "Palestinians" should have the "right of return" to Israel for all time?

Now some Muslims are creating false histories stating that Muslims were early settlers of the United States, so they can claim that the U.S. rightfully belongs to Muslims for all time.

The assumptions, the skewed knowledge, the mental set, the entire world view, of Louise Arbour, of all the louise-arbours of this world, need to be anatomized, spread out on a table, or possibly held up for close inspection. How did she arrive at her views, and at her position? What is it that went into her formation? Did she study history? Has she studied Islam? Or should she remain content with the bland assumptions of Bush and Blair, that because the word one commonly uses for Islam is "religion" then, therefore, Islam is entitled to automatic respect, without more, because "religion" is a good thing (one suspects that Louise Arbour would protest, would insist she does not see it that way, for she would be horrified, would she not, to be put in the same galere as George Bush). Or as one high Pentagon offical, slightly rattled by my presentation but not rattled enough, tried to complacently assure me a few years ago, my view of Islam must be wrong, Islam "must be alright" because, you see, "more than a billion people believe it." It's the old comical "fifty million Frenchmen can't be wrong"--updated, and far more dangerous as a basis for policy.
How do the louise-arbours of this world obtain their mental formation? As a Canadian civil servant, was she necessarily raised up to define herself as "NOT-American" which can explains good deal of her attitudinizing about the world. and by some others -- by no means all -- in the Colossus To Our North (a small-scale variant on this are those New Zealand politicians on the left whose attitudes one feels sometimes may be prompted by the desire to demonstrate that New Zealand is NOT-Australia).
The kind of people who make the world their plaything, and who wrap themselves in an unassailable mantle of Doing Good, because, you see, they are doing work for something they call into being, and that does not exist -- that "international community" they love to invoke -- are akin, in many ways, to those whom the historian David Cannadine described as having manned the British Empire, those middle-class Englishmen who, in India and elsewhere in the Empire, could enjoy a status, and a level of comfort, that they could never have at home.
In the modern world, people outside the West find the salaries and benefits of these “international organizations” staggering, the work conditions comical in the lightness of the load. For they are engaged in a curiously contemporary phenomenon: the citizen of the advanced Western world wh0 identifies completely, or almost so, with some amorpous “international community” the chief enemy of which, as they see it, can be located in that advanced Western world, so cruelly intent on not sharing its own riches equitably, not eager to roll over and play dead – not quite yet – for all the others outside that world, and whose relative poverty or misrule is never connected to the belief-systems and consequent behavior, or even the natural abilities or inclinations, of people in those misruled or otherwise un-advanced countries, for to focus on that would be to begin to suggest that some things – the rule of law, the solicitude for the individual, the recognition of property rights (but not the untrammeled rights to accumulated wealth), freedom of speech and conscience, widespread literacy, an intelligent encouragement of free and skeptical inquiry, and so on might just be the reasons for the Western world’s success, and also of its own development of tolerance which those same “international community” boosters think should be used to force that same advanced Western world to accommodate itself to those who are hostile to everything that makes the West the West – and when some in that West begin to rebel, then the likes of Louise Arbour, of all the little louise-arbours and mary-robinsons, assure us that it must be a matter of “Islamophobia.”

They are a strange and unpleasant breed, these IC-ites of the world. Part of their professional deformation, their fachidiotism, consists in minimizing or ignoring or destroying whatever special ties they might have had to their own country, that make them an American, or a Cqanadi – ties that of course require a certain interest, knowledge of, affection for, the history of their own country, its language, its literature, its art, its history, its good and even its bad. Their lives are half in airports, and then being greeted by some officious officials, with the usual smiles and handshakes, and possibly a little girl shyly stepping forth with a present of flowers or a hug. So much travel, so much jaw-jaw at so many solemn conclaves or meetings, meetings, meetings, so many Declarations of Principle, so many Peace Processes to “nudge” forward, so much Shuttle Diplomacy to engage in, so many chances To Feel And Be Important, is it any wonder that , all kinds of people find it is so much more fun, once you have graduated from a good college and, say, a good law school -- to join some international group, some NGO of the standard America-and-Israel-bashing kind, or the U.N., or something of that ilk, and then you get to travel all over the place, but not wickedly as a “corporate lawyer”or Western businessman, but as someone who, as someone whose allegiance and sympathies lie entirely with the “international community,” that god-damned non-existent and vicious construct, the “international community.” Morally self-preening, Louise Arbour makes her appointed rounds, from world capital to capital – today Davos, tomorrow Dacca – and works, not quite understanding what she is doing, for the destruction of the very best that has been achieved in statecraft to protect art, and science, and freedom of thought of all kinds – that is, what has been achieved in the advanced West and could never have been achieved in Islam or under Islmaic rule. The Louise Arbours of this world harbor no doubts, endure no private bouts with a directeur de conscience, no need to stare hard at herself in that five-star hotel room mirror and wonder bout what will happen to Shakespeare, or Leonardo, or Mozart, or the whole embarrassingly rich panoply of those who were created by the Western world, and who in turn helped to create it, under the Islam that she, in her way, is helping to protect and promote, as the Jihad not of “qitaal” (iincluding what we call “terrorism”) proceeds, and those whose allegiance is to a World Community betray their own countries, societies, civilizations, and are applauded, feted, self-applauded, for it.

you know, maybe we should assist the West in not being Islamophobic. I have a Great Idea, and college campuses would be a great place to do this little 'lets accept and be tolerant of the religion, of peace [sorry had to choke on writing that there],

one thing I learned working in far left protests, skits go a long way, in reaching people. So, how about, several of us women, throw on some thick black sheets, faces covered, and a few men, with big ole billy clubs,

can pretend like they are beating us, severely, and we'll expose our socked ankles! They can then throw Nerf rocks at us, a stoning scene, our crime, marrying someone we choose,

and we can then say, "oh we so love Islam and this is how we tolerate" etc etc etc, this is how we are respecting the UN and the Human Rights, after all, rape isn't rape in Darfur, its just, overzealous sex baby,

serious, we should do these skits all over America and Europe, lets give examples in guirrilla style [its the term they use for these street skits] of this great religion of peace.

I think busy malls would be a great place to hold these street plays, and it would so help the Western people, Embrace Sharia and Islam, we could even do a Scene I, Scene II, etc,.

have one with a little girl being dragged off to marry ole grandpa and that will really bring in the crowd's cheers, a new sort of 'family values', the West can embrace,

and another Scene of how under Sharia, women won't be shopping in malls with men, they'll have one day a week, where they are allowed to go out, no men will be present [they do this in Yemen I believe, or Oman, not sure which but know Wednesday is the women's shopping day, they segregate to That extreme],

the rest of the week, ole Sheet wearing Rapunzel is locked up in her dungeon, oops I mean er house,

Rapunzel though has shaved her head because there is no sense in having long hair, not with wearing a heavy hot black sheet of death and humiliation,

and of course, no pants are allowed because in Islam, women must ALWAYS HAVE THEIR LEGS READY, if you know what I mean, or be tied to the bed,

we could do a few scenes like that too, Hey, you know Hollywood would maybe even take it up, make a great erotic 'concubine' movie out of it...

and to make the Plays really powerful, emotionally moving, bringing cheers and women to tears, we could, us Actors that is, after the play, wearing our full face burkas, go through the Mall, demanding all the women to go home, cover up, tell them how evil they are for being Hell's tempterous, and that for their own good, they should not be educated,

get FGMs so they don't feel sexual anymore [because in Islam, a dead woman screw is the best...but you need the woman to be slave so you do the next best thing, kill her emotionally, so she just lies there,dead like],

and by golly, a couple of those plays, and people will wonder, why Islamophobe, after all, it was just so ridiculous right? Nothing wrong with accepting Islam or Sharia,

I bet the Mosques will fill up in West after a few of those Play scenes, and the UN will be jumping with Glee over how easy -- hey,

A US sailor beaten to death on a high jacked plane. Olympians killed, Embassies blown up. The World Trade Center attacked (twice). London, Madrid, all over India, southern Thailand, Bali, the Philippines, Belsan , and a UN commissioner who says the EU must fight Islamophobia. Is not phobia defined as unreasonable or morbid fear. Perhaps it should be restated as UN-a-phobic.

I am always hoping that you and Robert are quietly in contact in any way with any people who have the ability to make decisions regarding Islam. The fact that you have given a presentation to a Pentagon official is very heartening, although it was a few years ago, and nothing seems to have changed for the better there. Any person who claims to be an advocate of human rights should stand proudly and without apology against Islam.

Natasha - that's a GREAT idea. Anti-Sharia guerilla street theatre, focusing on the treatment of women under Islam.

Zip into the shopping mall or town square - or Uni quadrangle during Orientation Week - perform, hand out leaflets summarising what it's about, with 3 Qur'an verses, 3 hadith quotes (plus three books to read and a website - Jihadwatch, Dhimmiwatch!!); get the hell out.

Easy to do a couple other mini-plays - one focusing on the suppression of freedom of speech and freedom of religion everywhere within the Empire of Islam and among all Muslim beachheads outside it. Sum up the story of Salman Rushdie, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, and (from this site) stories of other apostates and 'blasphemers'. Lina Joy in Malaysia? The recent assault on Taslima Nasreen of Bangladesh? The death of Theo van Gogh?

Then there's the Rules for Dhimmis - easy enough to create a fast hard-hitting mini-play showing what it was REALLY like to live under Muslim mafia-style "protection" (just have a skit re-enacting Payment of Jizya, or Infidel Testimony Always Trumped By Muslim).

You'd need three or four good friends to act with you - and a lawyer you could trust, lurking in the wings.

Perhaps you should team up with Phyllis Chesler. Or ask her if she knows anyone who could help.

There is one positive aspect of having Louise Arbour United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights - she is no longer a Canadian Supreme Court judge. With the former, she is somewhat harmless, in the latter position she could do some real damage.

I wish I had the time to articulate academically what I do know, in regards to women's rights in Islamic countries, I do not however,

but I will, leave you with this, excerpt from the UN Report on Women's Rights/Violence towards Women,

and this is just one tiny little section. So, here's to, Islamo--common sense avoidance-what the cultural relativists who are so weak they'd sell out their own children, term as 'phobia',

lets take, a few cases, concerning Women,

"In Turkey, in both urban and rural areas, family members murder an estimated two hundred girls and women in the name of honor each year. In 2001, judges trying "honor" killing cases often reduced the penalties for perpetrators, holding that the victim had "provoked" the murder by transgressing codes of conduct imposed on women by society. Older relatives sometimes arranged for underage boys in the family to commit "honor" murders because penalties for minors were lower, in some cases as little as two years in prison. Domestic violence was also pervasive in Turkey; women's human rights activists condemned the authorities' lack of response to domestic violence and called for increased government funding to establish shelters and provide legal services. The government, however, appeared intent to reinstate virginity tests for women students wishing to become nurses and medical technicians. In July, Minister of Health Osman Durmus issued a directive to circumvent a 1999 ban on virginity tests and permit girls to be examined with parental permission and a judge's order if the nursing school suspected them of "immoral behavior." In Jordan, despite an extensive grassroots public awareness and signature campaign since 1999 run by the Jordanian National Committee to Eliminate the So-called Crimes of Honor, the government failed to repeal the law that allowed for a reduced sentence for the perpetrators of "honor crimes." In 2001, at least nineteen women were reported killed in the name of honor by November, and the government had still to make good on its promise to open a shelter for women whose families threatened their lives on grounds of "honor," and continued to hold threatened women in corrections facilities."

from the UN's own words...thats just a section, domestic violence is tolerated too, in Uzbeckistan, to keep family values, I do believe it is an Islamic country, women are forced to go back, to dire domestic violence relationships/marriages.

go for it with the political skits! Like I said I think Chesler could put you in touch with people - she was a red-hot leftie activist and is still a red-hot activist for women's and children's rights, she's campaigning against rape and sex slavery and domestic violence - anywhere, but since Islam specially fosters such horrors, the Empire of Islam sits at the top of her hit-list.

Thanks for the info you just put in from the UN Report on Womens Rights and Violence Towards Women. The more I find out about Islam-on-the-ground the more I am repelled by the ideology and what it does to people, specially women. Good God, just the name says it all - Submission. How 'bout we just call it Slavery and invite people to join an Anti-Slavery Campaign?

There are lots of terribly poor countries in the world. But even in the poorest countries, with the lowest life expectancies, worst infant mortality rates, and awful death-in-childbirth rates, women usually manage to live a bit longer than men. Except in Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Niger - all majority-Muslim countries.

And in every Muslim country in the world the female literacy rates are lower than those of the men (which are mostly pretty low too).

Just take Pakistan and India and Bangladesh. All 3 got decolonised at the same time, all had belonged to the same colonial power so started out with roughly the same existing infrastructure etc, and resource base quite similar (indeed, Pakistan and Bangladesh got the 'plums', the fertile well-watered Indus and Ganges-Brahmaputra lower reaches and deltas). But India is going ahead and the other two are sinking rapidly into the bottomless black pit of sharia. (See V S Naipaul, Among the Believers, for a bleak 'take' on Pakistan).

I've mentioned this fact before, but I'll put it here again, for any newbie lurkers and posters. Majority-Muslim Pakistan and Bangladesh have lower female literacy rates, higher infant mortality rates, and lower female life expectancies than majority-Hindu India; even though Pakistan, theoretically, has a somewhat higher average income per person than India. So - despite India's many and manifest problems, on balance a woman is perceptibly better off in Hindu India than in Muslim Bangladesh or Muslim Pakistan. Conclusion: Islam holds a country back, and harms its womenfolk.

No thinking woman anywhere in the non-Muslim world should view the potential spread of Islam in her homeland, let alone the schemes of those who propose to engineer Muslim takeovers, with anything other than a coldly rational fury.

Nobody thought it was silly, or racist, to fear, oppose and despise Nazism during World War II! And during the 1930s and the Cold War, it was not irrational for those who knew about Stalin, the famines, the purges and the Gulags, to be warily looking out for for Soviet spies and agitators in the rest of the world, and trying to neutralise them.

Knowing all that we know here about the core texts of Islam, and how they're still being interpreted by so many, and how consistently they've been put into practice in all sorts of places for 1300 years, and how they are still being put into practice all the way from West Africa to Indonesia, a wary vigilance vis a vis Islam, and a visceral rejection of it, are totally rational.

They accuse us of 'Islamophobia', implying that we are irrational to be afraid...and I see Kaa the snake hypnotising Mowgli in "The Jungle Book", singing 'go to sleeep', 'go to sleeep', while he wraps him up in his deadly coils.

Islamo-commonsense-avoidance - good phrase.

Here's a news story from Australia, 19 September, ABC News Online. I have capitalised certain phrases for emphasis.

"An Australian academic says groups like Al Qaeda are no longer in control of the planning and recruitment stages of terrorism.

Waheed Aly from Monash University says the term 'liquid terror' now describes the form which terrorism is taking.

Mr Aly says the rapid flow of information through cyberspace has lead to the dynamics of terrorism rapidly changing.

He says terrorists such as the amateurs in the recently foiled British attacks are self-recruiting.

"So this is what some analysts are starting to talk about now, not Al Qaeda which is largely irrelevant, but Al Qaedaism," he said.

"It's just an ideological symbol and people pick and choose, and they take from it whatever they want, and they do it via global media and they do it by cyberspace."

Mr Aly argues that radical Islam is an identity movement FORMED IN HOSTILE ENVIRONMENTS, rather than a faith AND THOSE WITH GRIEVANCES [but why are they all Muslims? why do they all quote Muslim scriptures?] can easily become part of AGGRIEVED GROUPS [but why are all those plots that are being uncovered, MUSLIM plots?] through the internet."

Taqiyya alert! Taqiyya alert! Blame the victim! - so 'hostile environments' is the problem, eh? Perhaps a translation is in order. "Hostile environment" = "kuffar rejecting the 'call' to Islam and perversely and insolently preferring their own religions, or no religion, and their own non-Muslim legal and political arrangements". My observation, from reading multiple news stories on jihadwatch and dhimmiwatch, is that many, many Muslims are as easily aggrieved , for the flimsiest of reasons, as the average bikie gang member.

(From a different, linked article, also on the ABC, I found that Mr Waheed Aly is the author of a nice new book entitled "People Like Us: How Arrogance is Dividing Islam and West". In that article he compares the modern jihadists to liquid mercury which cannot be smashed but on being hit, spreads...very nasty image and, I think, a veiled threat.)

GENEVA (Reuters) - United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Louise Arbour said on Monday that bigotry and prejudice, especially in regard to Muslims, were common in Europe and called on governments to tackle the issue.

Rotsa Ruck, UN Human Rights High Commissioner Arbour telling free peoples what to think and what to say. One would think that someone commited to Human Rights would support intellectual discourse, freedom of assembly, freedom of expression, artistic freedom and a host of other freedoms conducive to human endeavor and human existence.

Mohammedan Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, not Islamophobia, is the problem.
