It isn't nearly enough, but it's a start. "Immigration restrictions OK'd in France," by Elizabeth Bryant in the Washington Times (thanks to Ruth King):
PARIS — The National Assembly approved tough new restrictions on immigration yesterday, completing a major step in President Nicolas Sarkozy's program to roll up a famously well-trodden welcome mat.The bill, which still needs Senate approval and a second vote in the Assembly, requires would-be immigrants for the first time to demonstrate a knowledge of the French language and cultural values.
Its most controversial clauses provide for voluntary DNA testing of applicants seeking to show they are related to current French residents, and legalize some data gathering based on race and ethnicity.
The bill is largely driven by a public perception that the flow of unskilled workers into France contributes to high unemployment and strains the nation's social welfare system. Such fears were crystallized by weeks of riots in suburban areas populated mainly by Muslim and African immigrants in the fall of 2005.
"For many of our countrymen, immigration is a source of concern," said Immigration Minister Brice Hortefeux upon introducing the bill. "They see a threat to their security, their jobs, their lifestyle. We must understand the ... hopes of this silent majority."

Its too late for this measure. Reverse immigration is what is required to safeguard France from demographic growth from within.

DP111,
That will have to be the next step. That will be the tricky part.

Good for France! May all western nations take a lesson.

Great, now that immigration to France for the easy welfare pickins is going to be restricted, those looking for a handout will turn their eye to the US. The leading state in welfare/social programs is Minnesota, besides having a huge population of Muslims from Africa and the ME. With the 'progressive' atmosphere here, I predict a huge influx based on 'humanitarian' reasons.
But I'm happy for the French.

Unfortunately, this is only a first tiny step in a direction to undo DECADES of imbecilic and Western-suicidal policies. It may simply be "too little, too late." It will be interesting to see how the "youths" react to these new restrictions. I fear that we are not doing anywhere near enough to stave off the massive bloodshed that is coming. The hour is very late.

Unfortuantly the people responsible for decades of western-suicidal policies won't be the ones reaping what they sowed.
Just another failed social experiment that will simply be replaced by yet another.

Wasn't Sarkozy offering the equivalent of $8,000 to those who would voluntarily leave France? That was a great idea, even if more money had to be offered.
Of course that would not work in the U.S. We would pay, they would sneak back in, and we'd pay again.

Remember.. blood will be shed on both sides. We can also attack them in their own lands of origin if we must.
We shall not be the only one tht bleed.
If I have to die for the common Liberation one day I have no problem with that. Better than to see your children or mine enslaved by these beasts.
Someone will have to shed their blood.. many of them among us.. due to the foolish evil of the Ted Kennedys of the world.
Ted Dhimmedy.
No more scotch for you Ted after they take over!
