Sharia Alert from the country of the Two Holy Places: "Wife divorced for watching male TV host," from the Times of India (thanks to Hot Air):
RIYADH: A Saudi man divorced his wife for watching alone a television programme presented by a male, an act he deemed immoral, the Al Shams newspaper reported on Saturday. The man, whom the paper did not identify, ended his marriage on the grounds his wife was effectively alone with an unrelated man, which is forbidden under the strict Islamic law enforced in the ultra-conservative kingdom, the paper said.
Men in Saudi Arabia have the authority to divorce their wives without resort to the courts.
In accord with Islamic law.

Just think of how much heartache this poor guy could have avoided if he'd only known about this ahead of time.

The man, whom the paper did not identify, ended his marriage on the grounds his wife was effectively alone with an unrelated man, which is forbidden under the strict Islamic law enforced in the ultra-conservative kingdom, the paper said.
A few questions. What if she were with her sister, both watching the program? Would that be o.k? Or could both husbands divorce the sisters? What if wives number 2 (and 3 and 4 if applicable) were also watching? Could hubby divorce all of them? What if she were alone and looking out the window and saw a man (e.g. the mailman)? Is that also grounds for divorce? What about listening to a man on the radio when she's alone? Or what about answering the phone when alone? Does she have to hang up immediately if it's a man on the line?
In the case of phone calls, it would seem that she is effectively alone with a man, even if there are other people in the room, unless of course others are listening on an extension.
So let's have our "dirty-tricks" department unleash the phone solicitors (male ones) on the Saudis. If a woman answers the phone, begin taping the conversation, and then call back when hubby is home and replay the tape. Unless she hangs up at once on hearing the man's voice, she's divorceable.

I believe women in Saudi Arabia are not allowed answer the phone or the front door. (I would imagine this is the case generally in the Ummah.) What happens if they're home alone, I don't know.
In Saudi,Many of them are locked in (read this on the Religious Policeman's site) and the windows are barred.

What an ignorant .
I would say she's better off without him, but suspecting what I do about the "greatest religion ever devised by a lunatic" I would say that's wrong.

The Islamic world will never have peace until Saudi Arabia and countries like them purge their societies of such idiotic ways of behaving!

(PLEASE POST THIS ANNOUNCEMENT AT OTHER WEBSITES)
The Jihad Awareness Project (to wake up the U.S. Senate) currently has 96 volunteers in 42 states.
WE ARE STILL SEEKING ADDITIONAL CITIZEN VOLUNTEERS FROM ALL 50 STATES, ESPECIALLY THE FOLLOWING 8:
Connecticut
Delaware
Mississippi
Montana
North Dakota
South Dakota
Vermont
West Virginia
THE PROJECT: We're looking for people in every state of the Union who would be willing to purchase, from Amazon or any other source, a copy of Robert Spencer's new book Religion of Peace? Why Christianity Is And Islam Isn't and mail it, on an agreed upon date, to one of the senators in your state. We want to get the book simultaneously to all 100 senators, in order to send a strong message. If we get more than two people per state, books can also be sent to the U.S. House of Representatives.
If you'd like to participate (or you just have questions), please write to me at traehnam@yahoo.com under the subject heading "Senate," and tell me the state your senator represents, and a nickname. No need for your real name. And I will never share your email address with anyone, not even with other volunteers for this project.
And visit jihadawareness.blogspot.com to get more info on this project and to leave comments other volunteers can read. You can also see there the growing list of participants in this project, and the states their senators represent. I've also designed a graphic that might amuse. Scroll down when you get to the site.
Once we have at least two people from every state, we can agree on a mailing date and then each of us can mail a copy of the book on that date.
Right before each of us mails the book, we’ll issue a press release to media outlets in as many states as possible, and in that way announce and explain the mailing. And perhaps we can come up with some other ways of maximizing the effectiveness of this project and gaining as much positive attention as possible.
One of the project's volunteers suggested contacting Rep. Sue Myrick, who started the Anti-Jihad Caucus in Congress. When we reach the goal of having all 100 senators covered, I'll call Rep. Myrick's office and see if she can help. I've called several congressional offices to get advice on how best to proceed.

Merely more insanity from the cult that is 'islam.'
I'm not surprised at all. The over-the-top ignorance that spews from this cult long ago stopped surprising me.
What I wish, though, was that more ppl here in the Civilized West knew that this was going on.

Actually, his wife was alone with a TV, not another man. I wonder if this guy was jealous whenever the wife spent time with the microwave, dishwasher or electric can opener.
Perhaps he ticked off his wife and was aware of the outcome of this story and was just trying to head off (no pun intended ;) another unpleasant incident.

Islamic divorce again.
Man needs only say "I divorce you" three times.
Woman needs an Imam to declare the marriage void, and a reson must pertain:
not consummated
man becomes apostate
man refuses to perform sex after three menstruation periods { yep ... a man can flat out ignore a wife after menopause and the wife has no recourse }
plus a few others ...

Woman needs an Imam to declare the marriage void, and a reason must be given:
not consummated
man becomes apostate
man refuses to perform sex, for three full menstruation periods ( no sex for 84 days ) { yep ... a man can flat out ignore a wife after menopause and the wife has no recourse }

This is why Mohammad made it a capital offense for Muslims women to marry Christians and Jews. We make better husbands since we don't treat our women like dogs (oops ... I mean with such great respect that we take power away from them so they are not stress).

Not to defend either the turkey who did this or shari'a law, but this only shows what an idiot the husband is, not that watching a man on television counts as being alone with a man under shari'a law. Since a man needs no reason at all to divorce his wife, the reason he gives need not make any sense even under shari'a law.

I went and saw Salman Rushdie give a talk at Vanderbilt University last night, and something he said is very very relevant to this subject here, so let me share my report:
Despite a quip at the beginning that no writer should be given the opportunity to speak in front of a large crowd he delivered a fantastic speech.
During a nice introduction there was mention of him being an outlaw, and fatwa this and fatwa that. He said he liked that introduction, being an "outlaw" he felt he was in good company with Billy the Kid and Jesse James. Further he said he wasn't sure if it was appropriate to say... the "F" word... fatwa, his death sentence, and that he only had one comment on that, concerning his "dispute" with the Ayatollah Khomeini, that he was pleased to say that only one of them was dead.
The guy was almost comical at times, and despite his quip on writers and public speaking, was very entertaining.
Another thing that stood out was that he said that he felt that during serious times that society needed frivolous literature, and that during frivolous times that the society needed serious literature. He referenced the fact that during one of the most serious times of the 20th century, World War II, that two of the top three novels to be written at that time were rather comedic, that being Catch-22 and Slaughterhouse V. Both very excellent books, that I have read myself.
And then he commented, much to my surprise, that to the contrary of popular wisdom, that these are very frivolous times indeed, saying that some of things going on in the world are so ridiculous that you couldn't think such things up wit the wildest of imaginations. I think implicitly, he was referring to some of the things going on in relation to the camp of fundamentalist Islam and rioting over cartoons and these sort of things, but explicitly he mentioned the fact that the news headlines are filled with the likes of Britney Spears and Paris Hilton and OJ Simpson. Quite amazing if you think about it.
All in all, it was a great talk, it was free, and if this man ever comes to your area to give a talk you should definitely make an effort to check it out!
=====================================
So here we have a most ridiculous situation, a man divorcing his wife for watching a TV programme with a male host because it is immoral. You couldn't think something like that up in your wildest dreams. Very frivolous times indeed. Kudos to you Mr. Rushdie! ;)

They should ban TV in Saudi.
And phones and computers.
And electricity.
They can have:
Camel urine.
That's all they need.
Just like Mohammad.
