Iran MPs warn over Benetton stores

A bad influence. Not like Khomeini or bin Laden. A real bad influence.

By Hiedeh Farmani for AFP (thanks to all who sent this in):

TEHRAN -- A group of prominent MPs have warned over the presence of Italian clothing retailer Benetton in Iran, saying its fashions are a bad influence on female consumers, newspapers said Monday.

The reformist Etemad-e Melli said the five MPs - four members of parliament's cultural commission and a member of its legal commission - had issued their warning in a written protest to parliament.

The protest comes amid a crackdown by Iranian police on dress deemed to be un-Islamic, which has already seen warnings handed out to over-100,000 women.

"The MPs Sunday made a warning about preventing the influence of the Benetton investor in fashion and women's clothing design," the newspaper said.

It added that parliament speaker Gholam Ali Hadad-Adel received their protest by himself, protesting that Benetton was not using Farsi language or script on its shop signs in the Islamic republic....

After the Islamic revolution ousted the pro-US shah, it was made obligatory for all women, including non-Muslims, to cover their heads and all bodily contours in public.

Benetton with some of its rainbow ad campaigns made the word "Benetton" almost a synonym for integration of all peoples as equals. Wonder why Tehran's MPs would be against that? Could it be because Islamic law calls for the subordination of non-Muslims to Muslims, in obedience to Allah's word in the Qur'an:

Qur'an Chapter 9, Verse 29:
YUSUFALI translation: Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book [Christians and Jews], until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.

PICKTHAL translation: Fight against such of those who have been given the Scripture [Christians and Jews] as believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, and forbid not that which Allah hath forbidden by His messenger, and follow not the Religion of Truth, until they pay the tribute readily, being brought low.

SHAKIR translation: Fight those who do not believe in Allah, nor in the latter day, nor do they prohibit what Allah and His Messenger have prohibited, nor follow the religion of truth, out of those who have been given the Book [Christians and Jews], until they pay the tax in acknowledgment of superiority and they are in a state of subjection.

And Islam gives an even worse deal to non-Muslims who are not Christians or Jews.

Not a Benetton fan, but, if memory serves, their campaign "united colours of benetton" a few years back was warm, fuzzy,multi-culti, and (gasp) very accepting of homosexuality. While we have it on very good authority that Iran has 0% gay population, it still will fire the pocket-hitler up.

Islam: the he-man woman hater's club for sub-morons.

I've been very critical of the Iranian theocracy, and Islam in general over the years, but for once I gotta hand it to them.

profitsbeard says, "Islam: the he-man woman hater's club for sub-morons."

We will follow the instructions of Dr. Mahdi PHD given at his visit to Columbia University and the U.N. (where he gave off a bright light that ascended to the heaven).

We hold scientific investigation very high in our minds because of the teachings of Dr. Mahdi PHD. Therefore, we must, even if Dr. Mahdi PHD said there were no homosexuals in Iran, continue to investigate as Dr. Mahdi does for the so called Holocaust. We are sure Doctor misspoke under Zionist pressures and we are praying he will soon announce (after checking with his boss) that he will lead a new scientific investigation that will demonstrate to any non-believers once again that the Islamic Republic is the worldwide leader in scientific knowledge.

Benetton gives us multiple locations within the Islamic Republic to hold the Homosexual Cartoon Contest which can only compliment our true scientific investigation and deep knowledge of this matter. Dr. Mahdi PHD is one of the top scholars of all ages.

"After the Islamic revolution ousted the pro-US shah, it was made obligatory for all women, including non-Muslims, to cover their heads and all bodily contours in public."

...The Islamic revolution made it official, Muslim women have no rights.....except to be Islamic slaves.....

Watch Benetton cave in. The Arabic signs will go up and the burquas will be designed - it's all about the money, honey.

"Watch Benetton cave in. "

....Benetton should leave Muslim soil...after announcing to the public.."we are leaving because your government does not want us here...goodbye....

So the "United Colors of Benetton" may now be burned at those famous Iranian rallies, alongside the flags of America, the Great Satan, and England, the Behind-the-Scenes Satan, and Israel, the Little Satan.

And in the taxonomy of Satanhood, where will Benetton of Treviso, in the Veneto, be placed? What name shalll we give it? Well, I'd like to suggest (the Iranian Embassy may forward me a fat and much-needed check if my suggestion is adopted -- goodness gracious, I seem to be doing the work for both sides now) that it be kept, fittingly, in Italian, but in an easily-decipherable form. Let's call Benetton, keeping in mind its famous ad, the "Satana Tinto Di Tutti I Colori."

"shoulda taken Italian instead of Latin..."
-- from a posting above

No need to worry. If you wait long enough, that Latin you learned will turn into Italian. Just give it a few centuries.

This is a case where all sane people should agree with Ahmadijihad and his mahdi-friends.

Benetton is a corrupt Italian business exploiting peoples's ignorance and curiosity to promote homosexuality, pedophilia, necrophilia and pure satanism for commercial ends.

...i took the time to view Benetton's online catalog....I have to say, this stuff is too nice for Muslim women....Muslim women should follow Islams meager clothing line which consists of a burka and hmmm....another burka....

of course the women who leave Islam can wear whatever they choose...and then variety of womens clothing in western stores is remarkable...

Speaking of "Ahmadijihad", has everyone seen the cover of the October 8 issue of The New Yorker magazine?
