New York's iconic Empire State Building is to be lit up green from Friday in honor of the Muslim holiday of Eid, the biggest festival in the Muslim calendar marking the end of Ramadan, officials said."This is the first time that the Empire State Building will be illuminated for Eid, and the lighting will become an annual event in the same tradition of the yearly lightings for Christmas and Hannukah," according to a statement. -– from this news article
Et Tu, Empire State Building?
It is not going green to express the sympathy of well-off skyward-thrusting scrapers lording it over the less fortunate -- the trees, the rivers and brooks, the meadows – everywhere. Instead, the Empire State Building is going green to express sympathy or solidarity or respect or some goddam thing like that for Islam, wonderful Islam, some of whose most sincere adherents just a few years ago laid low a whole group of fellow skyscrapers, and murdered 3,000 Americans while they were at their desks, on their phones, in the conference room, sipping a quick cup of coffee, or merely shooting the breeze, or flirting or perhaps even giving a co-worker a furtive glance, or a furtive kiss, or showing pictures to a sympathetic supervisor of their daughter's wedding or their son's camping trip with the Boy Scouts.
The Empire State Building, green for Islam?
There are all sorts of problems with this, problems of the too-numerous-to-mention variety.
But let's start with the obvious. None of us will be able to think of the Empire State Building in the same way again. It will lose whatever appeal it once had. We will think of it as, somehow, a collaborator with the enemy, just as we would had it been thrown open by its owners and managers to a meeting of Fritz Kuhn's Bund back in 1939 or 1940. Madison Square Garden was at that time their meeting place of choice. The Fifth Columnists on the Home Front were still holding pro-Hitler rallies in Madison Square Garden in 1939 or later, including not only the Bund of Fritz Kuhn but also William Pelley's Silver Shirts, "the Little Flower" of Michigan Father Coughlin, and all the rest, from society ladies who put one in mind, physically, of Margaret Dumont who was the cinematic foil for Groucho, and morally put one in mind of -- well, you know. The assorted America-Firsters were mostly antisemites with a few of the "White-Race" only brigades, and the odd White Russian fascist (Boris Brasol) -- well, for all this do pick up in a used book store that great and largely unremembered book which deserves to be brought back and remembered by everyone (it went through 20-30-40 editions in 1942 alone): Under Cover by John Roy Carlson. His real name was Garabedian; he was an Armenian-American, a tremendous patriot, whose family had managed to survive the Muslim murders in Turkey.
I suspect that this Meccatropic turn on the part of the Empire State Building is simply the result of naivete, ignorance, and sheer laziness. Did those who thought it would be a swell idea to do this think of the symbolic value to Muslims worldwide, as they are told that the American Infidels, even after 9/11/2001, are going to have their other famously tall building in New York pay tribute to Islam itself in the only way it can? And do they understand how this news will be received? Of course they don't. How could they? But from here on out, they might consult with those who can tell them -- Barkis, by the way, is willin'.
And finally, a personal, quasi-romantic note.
Who among us, sitting alone in the darkened theatre of the living room, as the credits roll, who has been once upon a time unable to contain those quiet tears that roll down our cheeks, involuntarily, prompted by that last scene in An Affair To Remember, the version with Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr, will now so readily let drop those once-ready tears? As you know, it takes place on the Observation Deck of the Empire State Building, where they are supposed to meet, but do not. From now on, there won't be a wet eye in my house. What about in yours?

The letter was believed to have been sent to The Pope and The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams (below)
Prominent Muslim scholars are warning that the "survival of the world" is at stake if Muslims and Christians do not make peace with each other.
In an unprecedented open letter signed by 138 leading Muslim scholars from every sect of Islam, the Muslims plead with Christian leaders "to come together with us on the common essentials of our two religions."
The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, and Pope Benedict are believed to have been sent copies of the document which calls for greater understanding between the two faiths.
The letter also spells out the similarities between passages of the Bible and the Koran.
The Muslim scholars state: "As Muslims, we say to Christians that we are not against them and that Islam is not against them - so long as they do not wage war against Muslims on account of their religion, oppress them and drive them out of their homes."
The phrasing has similarities to the New Testament passage: "He that is not with me is against me" - a passage used by President George Bush when addressing a joint session of Congress nine days after 9/11.
The Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought, a non-governmental organisation based in Amman, Jordan, has organised the letter.
The Institute said: "This historic letter is intended by its 138 signatories as an open invitation to Christians to unite with Muslims over the most essential aspects of their respective faiths - the principles of love of one God and love of the neighbour.
"It is hoped that the recognition of this common ground will provide the followers of both faiths with a shared understanding that will serve to defuse tensions around the world."
It continues: "Finding common ground between Muslims and Christians is not simply a matter for polite ecumenical dialogue between selected religious leaders.
"Together they (Muslims and Christians) make up more than 55 per cent of the population, making the relationship between these two religious communities the most important factor in contributing to meaningful peace around the world. If Muslims and Christians are not at peace, the world cannot be at peace."
Among those launching the letter in the UK will be David Ford, Regius Professor of Divinity, and Fellow of Selwyn College, University of Cambridge and founding director of the Cambridge Inter-Faith Programme.
Aref Ali Nayed, a leading theologian and senior adviser to the Inter-Faith Programme, will also take part at the event in central London.

Imagine Churchill ordering the illumination of Big Ben in the colours of the Nazi flag post the London Blitz! That's just about what is happening here with the Empire State Building.
If the States is accelerating into dhimmitude mode, then God help us all!
What I find so spooky is that the West appears to have lost touch with nature. Nature has given us the survival instinct. We so obviously have lost ours.
The Soviet Union fell so quickly and effortlessly. We shouldn't forget this fact. The West could fall equally quickly and equally effortlessly.
Our leaders, both sides of the Pond, are obviously not fit for purpose. We need people who will redouble their efforts to ensure the survival of the West, not its destruction.
In doing this, Bush (and Bloomberg) have shown that the West really is the "paper tiger" OBL set out to prove it as being. Hard though it is to admit it, OBL was right all along.
Shame on Bush for this act of dhimmitude, shame on Bush for giving the West away!

WHITE is a color of peace ... and as we all know from President Bush ... ISLAM is a religion of peace.

It bears noting that on Feb. 23, 1997, one Ali Hassan Abu Kamal shot seven tourists on the 86th-floor observation deck of the Empire State Building, one fatally. According to an AP dispatch at the time, “He carried a note blaming the United States for using Israel as 'an instrument’ against his people. The note found in Ali Hassan Abu Kamal’s pocket contains ‘rambling, angry stuff,’ and appears to contradict claims by the man’s family that the shooting had nothing to do with politics, a high-ranking police source said last night. The letter also expressed anger at France and England for using Israel as ‘an instrument’ against Palestinians, and indicated that Mr. Abu Kamal planned to vent his anger at the Empire State Building, the source said.’”
Perhaps, to commemorate the innocent blood shed there at the impetus of jihad, the lighting on the Empire State Building should be red instead of green.

Greetings:
My father immigrated to this country in 1927 and worked in the construction industry in New York City. The frist large project he worked on was the Empire State Building. After the Great Depression and his soldier-time in WW2, he bookended his career by working on the World Trade Center.
Sometimes, I am glad he's gone.

Significance of the color green in Islam
Green is the symbolic color of Islam. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH, peace be upon him) wore a green turban, and green is believed to have been his favorite color. Green was also the color of the banners used on the battlefield and the color of the first Islamic flag.
The Quran and the Hadith, the teachings of Prophet Muhammad, describe Paradise as filled with green: the people of Paradise "will wear green garments of fine silk [The Noble Quran, 18:31]."
Islam also considers green significant because it is the color of nature. Therefore, green is popularly used in the flags of Muslim nations, as well as in art and architecture. Mosques are frequently decorated with green tiles.

How sad, how sickening, how unbelievable that the people of NY would honor the vile religion and the malevolent people that killed 3,000 in NYC a few years ago. When will America learn that NOTHING we do will change the way the islamic savages feel about us?! This only serves to further legitimize islam, empower it, and embolden its rabid adherents. God help us.
I loathe islam more every day and I'm beginning to feel the same way about the ignorant apologists, self-hating useful idiots, and obsequious appeasers of this predatory, supremacist death cult. I heard a local talk show host make one of the most outrageious equivalency remarks today by comparing islamic violence to Jim Jones and Waco/David Koresh during a discussion about killing in the name of God. These two incidents are not even remotely comparable to jihadist violence but even if they were, how could he equate two isolated, cult-related incidents to 1300 + years of islamic genocides, holy wars, terrorism, and jihad? This guy is a Conservative, yet he seizes every opportunity to give islam the benefit of the doubt while admitting that he doesn't know much about islam! I have sent him many emails explaining certain islamic beliefs, which he obviously ignored. I guess the truth was too graphic and unbelievable for him, as it is for many people who simply cannot digest the facts about islam; they are too hideous to contemplate. Nothing that horrible could possibly be true, especially if they know some "nice" muslims. Must be bigotry and xenophobia because if islam was really a supremacist, predatory death cult bent on world domination, we wouldn't let muslims immigrate to America! Our government would protect us from them. Yeah, right!
At this stage of the game, I am truly astounded at the number of Americans who refuse to learn or admit the truth about islam. Surely nobody who keeps up with international current events by reading newspapers and watching the news could still believe that islam has been hijacked by a few extremists, despite the overwhelming left-wing bias in the media.

But seriously, green is indeed the beloved colour of (POLITICAL)Islam worldwide. But don't let them appropriate it. God forbid this beautiful colour become the exclusive domain of Islam, and given their history I wouldn't put it past them to make such a claim on it. It's also the colour of Ireland, one of my ancestral homelands, and of the environmental movement, which along for all its silliness has also done some genuine good in the world. It's a colour representing spring, renewal of life, youth, health, and vitality. And finally, it's one of the two traditional colours of that beloved Christian holiday, Christmas. Perhaps thinking Christians worldwide could engage in their own little bit of subversion this year by favouring green over red in their holiday decor. Go further; dress Santa Claus and the Virgin Mary in green (who said they have to wear red or blue?), hang up green stockings, festoon your home with green lights, and if you're a woman choose that sexy emerald-green sheath for the office party instead of the red one; it's a more flattering colour anyway. We all need to do our bit.

This is beyond disgusting and sickening. On the morning of 9/11 the Empire State building was evacuated because it was thought that it would be the next target.
The Boy Scouts of America headquarters is in this building.

Someone mentioned they could not believe the people of New York would honor this cult. While unfortunetly there are many idiots here in NYC who would defend this, this travesty is done by whatever group manages the building, believe me, there are plenty of New Yorkers who are fed up with the islamic menace here, I met some of them while protesting the muslim day parade here last month and at other venues.

In the same misguided spirit, I noticed that the mall in Tysons Corner, Virginia nicely decked itself out with alternating green and white light bulbs this past weekend. There's already more than enough hijab-wearing females and aggressive Muslim men wandering through this mall as it is--placating them only makes it way worse......
