"Violence does not resolve the tensions." Indeed not, but the abductors no doubt believe that it pleases their God. From the BBC (thanks to Morgaan Sinclair):
Pope Benedict XVI has called for the release of two priests kidnapped in Iraq during his prayers on Sunday. The two clerics of the Syrian-Catholic diocese of Mosul were kidnapped while attending a funeral on Saturday.
Pope Benedict, speaking in Italian outside the Vatican, asked that they "quickly let the two religious men go".
He said the news from Iraq "rattles the consciences of all those for whom the good of the country and peace in the region is held dear".
The pontiff was speaking during his traditional Sunday Angelus blessing to pilgrims and tourists at St Peter's Square in Rome.
"I learned today that two priests from the archdiocese of Mosul were kidnapped and threatened with death," Pope Benedict said.
"I call on the abductors to rapidly liberate the two clerics and I reiterate that violence does not resolve the tensions," he said.

(PLEASE POST THIS ANNOUNCEMENT AT OTHER WEBSITES)
The Jihad Awareness Project (to wake up the U.S. Senate and Congress) currently has 107 volunteers in 44 states.
WE ARE STILL SEEKING ADDITIONAL CITIZEN VOLUNTEERS
FROM ALL 50 STATES, ESPECIALLY THE FOLLOWING 6:
Delaware
Mississippi
North Dakota
South Dakota
Vermont
West Virginia
THE PROJECT: We're looking for people in every state of the Union who would be willing to purchase, from Amazon or any other source, a copy of Robert Spencer's new book Religion of Peace? Why Christianity Is And Islam Isn't and mail it, on an agreed upon date, to one of the senators in your state. We want to get the book simultaneously to all 100 senators, in order to send a strong message. If we get more than two people per state, books can also be sent to the U.S. House of Representatives.
If you'd like to participate (or you just have questions), please write to me at traehnam@yahoo.com under the subject heading "Senate," and tell me the state your senator represents, and a nickname. No need for your real name. And I will never share your email address with anyone, not even with other volunteers for this project.
And visit jihadawareness.blogspot.com to get more info on this project and to leave comments other volunteers can read. You can also see there the growing list of participants in this project, and the states their senators represent. I've also designed a graphic that might amuse. Scroll down when you get to the site.
Once we have at least two people from every state, we can agree on a mailing date and then each of us can mail a copy of the book on that date.
Right before each of us mails the book, we’ll issue a press release to media outlets in as many states as possible, and in that way announce and explain the mailing. And perhaps we can come up with some other ways of maximizing the effectiveness of this project and gaining as much positive attention as possible.
One of the project's volunteers suggested contacting Rep. Sue Myrick, who started the Anti-Jihad Caucus in Congress. When we reach the goal of having all 100 senators covered, I'll call Rep. Myrick's office and see if she can help. I've called several congressional offices to get advice on how best to proceed.

Just imagine, when Muslims kidnap an threaten to murder two priests in Iraq, that Catholics in Ireland, Spain, or Italy, were to kidnap and threaten to behead two imams in retaliation. How fast would the world's leaders loudly condemn the Catholic action while saying nothing about the original crime that prompted the retaliation?
Just look at the response when the world condemned Israel's retaliation against Hezbollah and Hamas but refused to condemn the long line of kidnappings and murders that provoked that retaliation in the first place.

The problem is they know we would not kidnap or behead any of them.

If Muslims want peace, start condemning the burning of Churches and the abuse of priests. If the 138 scholars started to lobby for the opening of a Christian cathedral in Mecca, I'd believe they really want real co-existence. Peace means capitulation to Muslims ... it ain't happening.

Persecution of Christians happens in the Muslim world so often that he could make statements like this this a weekly event. If Rowan Williams would only remember where he's mislaid his manhood, he could join in as well.

I stagger and fall under the weight of living in a society under attack by words clearly written more than a thousand years ago in a psychotic and dead book named the Koran, and this society, under very serious attack, by all the religions based on this psychotic Book that clearly calls for the murder of absolutely innocent people, refuses to condemn these Main Stream Religions, because it is politically incorrect to call any religion of a certain age and population density intrinsically evil and totally unfixable unless huge portions of the Koran are ripped out of this Bible of Murder, and kept out, forever! I am the only person I ever heard of who is willing to go this far with the truth about this religion of horror! I alone (as far as I know) am religiously incorrect enough to say - "THIS IS AN EVIL AND UNFIXABLE RELIGION OF NOTHING MORE THAN OUT AND OUT COLD BLOODED MURDER,period!"

His Holiness, Pope Benedict, is either very naive or just tossing his plea to the wind for the sake of pacifing his flock.

My feeling is the Pope recognizes that every word out of his mouth, directed at Muslims, can immediately result in the violent deaths of priests, nuns, and lay Christians of every denomination.
This must be a very heavy burden to bear -- as the Pope has no divisions with which to protect them.
Perhaps the hands-on experience of dealing with Muslim violence and duplicitous Muslim clerics, and the necessary investigation that comes with such, will allow Benedict to begin priming the road that will lead to the Catholic Church's recognition that "Allah" is not at all the same entity as the Jews and Christians recognize. This will take time.

""I learned today that two priests from the archdiocese of Mosul were kidnapped and threatened with death," Pope Benedict said."
....have any Catholics kidnapped any Muslim clerics and threatened them with death lately?....
...it is time to bring back the conquistidors...
...Ban Muslim Immigration...

Marwan's daughter! How true is what you say, "Perhaps the hands-on experience of dealing with Muslim violence and duplicitous Muslim clerics, and the necessary investigation that comes with such, will allow Benedict to begin priming the road that will lead to the Catholic Church's recognition that "Allah" is not at all the same entity as the Jews and Christians recognize. This will take time." Perhaps the Pope knows that an acceptable number of Christians will be murdered in he told the truth. But the truth must out sooner or later! And that truth is, ""THIS IS AN EVIL AND UNFIXABLE RELIGION OF NOTHING MORE THAN OUT AND OUT COLD BLOODED MURDER,period!" But, right now, no one, even on Jihad Watch, will dare to write the truth!

I believe that the Pope does know that the god of Islam is different from the Judeo-Christian understanding of God. If you look through Deus Caritas Est you can see that he has a complete understanding of Islam. Moreover, various Catholic scholars have long recognized that Islam errs on many theological points. Hillaire Belloc calls it a heresy.
Additionally, rest assured that the medieval Church (and medieval society for the matter) understood the nature of Islam quite clearly. One need only look through medieval literature and drama for abundant linkages of Mohammed with the devil.....

And apparently Muslim and Muslim-apologists realize this too. Check out this link to an article from the National Catholic Reporter and you can almost hear the school-boy whining of John Esposito at Georgetown about the Vatican's refusal to open theological dialogue with Muslims...Newsflash for Esposito--the Church considers Islam to be in error on several theological points and as such will not give quarter....

"I call on the abductors to rapidly liberate the two clerics and I reiterate that violence does not resolve the tensions," he said.
........................
This is assuming, of course, that Muslims have any interest in "resolving the tensions".

The Koran is very clear. It advocates out and out murder of innocent people. There is no room in the Koran, or any of those large, mainstream religions, that believe that every word of that Book is the unchangeable commandment from the only God in the universe, for reinterpretation. Therefore, those Muslims who believe in that the Koran is absolutely the final and direct unchangeable orders and mandate from God must believe that the murder of innocent people, and the relegation of Christians and Jew to a permanent, restricted, and very inferior class, is a commandment from God which can never be changed. Any Muslim who wishes to change his or her religion is commanded by Mohammad and God to be murdered right out. So, why isn't if fair to say that this is a psychotic and intrinsically evil religion which is totally unfixable unless huge sections of the savage Koran are ripped out and kept out of what remains of the Koran forever! I know it is not Religiously Correct to point out that any old and densely populated religion is, at heart, basically psychotic or evil, and, for any practical purpose imaginable, unfixable, but, it is unfixable and savage and intrinsically evil - a religion that advocates the murders and persecutions of totally innocent people as part of the indispensable heart of this evil religion - I won't bother quoting all the damning passages from that horrible book - but you know they are there - abundant proof that the Koran is evil and unfixable - unless reality is changed into something impossible. So, if they won't respond by murdering Catholics, shouldn't someone point this out to them, I mean, if you really love them you should tell them what danger they are in!
