Pastor: I was threatened in Ramallah

More persecution of Christians. And he fled to Jerusalem for safety -- apparently unafraid of the fiendish Zionists!

By Etgar Lefkovits in the Jerusalem Post (thanks to David):

An Arab-American evangelical pastor said Wednesday that he has been threatened by a Palestinian security official in the West Bank city of Ramallah, and has fled to Jerusalem for safety.

Pastor Isa Bajalia, 47, a US citizen born in Birmingham, Alabama, said that he had been threatened over the last two months by a Fatah security official from the Tanzim militia who also demanded $30,000 in protection money. Bajalia said he had moved to nearby Jerusalem since the threats began.

The pastor has been living in Ramallah, considered to be the most liberal of all the West Bank cities under Palestinian control, since 1991, together with his American wife and son, who attended school in Jerusalem and has since joined the US Air Force.

For the last decade he served as pastor for a group of 30-35 people in Ramallah, holding Sunday services in private homes and carrying out missionary work among the Palestinians, who are predominantly Muslim.

Initially, Bajalia said he was treated with respect, but some suspicion, by the locals, and viewed as an outsider coming in with a foreign concept. The pastor said the threats began about two months ago after a group of church workers were seen praying on behalf of Palestinians.

"We will do to you what Hamas did to Fatah in Gaza," Bajalia said the Palestinian security official warned him. Bajalia, who has a vision problem, said he was also told that in addition to his eye problems he would not be able to walk anymore.

The Palestinian security official subsequently told Bajalia to register some of his family's land in the official's name and pay him $30,000, the pastor said. Bajalia said he had also been watched for six months.

It was not immediately clear Wednesday if the pastor was threatened specifically because of his missionary work among Muslims or as a result of the land his family owned in the city, or a combination of the two.

Last week, Bajalia filed a complaint with the US Consulate in Jerusalem over the threats, he said....

unfortuantly he shouldn't expect any help or sympathy from the current administration or the state dept.

I would imagine he is probably viewed more as a pest from the U.S. consulate.....

No problem-send more money to the palestinians. They'll then behave. We have their word on it.

For those unaware of it, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr. Rowan Williams is showing his dhimmitude and anti-Israeliness again:

'Fence driving Christians out of Holy Land'

From the other side of the pond, the UCC General Synod in Hartford, Connecticut, USA, below. I will try to provide a more explicit statement of the policy. Please Google "Sabeel"! Note also that UCC Synod President John Thomas has endorsed Barack Obama for US President. Obama spoke from the pulpit at this summer's synod.

=================================================
Mid-East Resolution fast tracked to implementation
Controversy avoided - Committee of Reference moved resolution directly to implementation. IN SUPPORT OF A RENEWED AND BALANCED STUDY AND RESPONSE TO THE CONFLICT BETWEEN PALESTINE AND ISRAEL: "Be it further resolved that the 26th General Synod directs the Executive Council to establish a Task Force to engage in ongoing and balanced study of the causes, history and context of the conflict, including appropriate responses to the situation that may or may not lead to further support of economic leverage and removal of the security barrier.

Anti-Defamation League welcomes new UCC resolution
From the ADL: The United Church of Christ's acknowledgment that it has advocated an unbalanced and one-sided policy against the state of Israel is "a welcome development," according to the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), which noted that past policy declarations "were based on unfair and biased assumptions."

UC News is reporting that Barack Obama has agreed to speak at the UCC's General Synod in June. UCCtruths reported back in February that negotiations had begun to bring Presidential Candidate and UCC member Barack Obama to General Synod. From UC News:

U.S. Senator Barack Obama (D-Ill.), an active UCC member since 1988, has accepted an invitation to speak at UCC General Synod 26, June 22-26, in Hartford, Conn.

Obama — a member of the 10,000-member Trinity UCC in Chicago — will speak to delegates and visitors during a special day-long "Synod in the City" event on Saturday, June 23, at the Hartford Civic Center.

Is that a new SJP sequel? Posted by: Shy Guy [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 1, 2007 2:50 PM

Actually it was Sex in the City (of Hartford, CT) for the GLBT community. The UCC is proud of being the first Protestant denomination to officially marry gay couples in Massachusetts. I think they waited until just after midnight on the day the law went into affect. Of course, the towns of Provincetown and North Hampton were the first to issue the gay marriage licenses.

Folks - I THINK there's still room on the 'talkback' floor at the JPost relevant to this article about the Ramallah pastor. Everybody here who has read and re-read Our Hugh's inimitable postings on the history of the land of Israel, on the 'Palestinians', on Slow Jihad (Fatah) and Fast Jihad (Hamas), on the Lesser Jihad Against Israel and the Greater Jihad Against the USA and All Infidels, please - get on over to the Jerusalem Post NOW and put in your two cents' worth. I did.

Hugh and Robert have educated you - spread the education. Imagine if half the English-speakers in Israel read Robert's books and Bat Yeor and everything snapped into focus for them?

Also: click on the link that Shy Guy provided above - 'Fence Driving Christians Out of the Holy Land' - re the Archbishop of Canterbury's dhimmi-like remarks concerning the Anti-Jihad Barrier, aka Security Fence aka 'Separation Wall'. Same deal. Hop into the talkback - I THINK there's still some room- and toss in some teasers about dhimmitude, Muslim attitudes toward Jews and Christians as mandated by Quran and Hadith, Bat Yeor, Robert Spencer, Andrew Bostom, etc. Quite a few of the existing talkbacks sound like they're 'getting' it - reinforce them!

If you've got time write a Letter to the Editor at the Jerusalem Post, discussing BOTH stories - the Ramallah pastor, the foolish blindness of the Abp of Canterbury (who doesn't seem to have understood that for instance, a huge population collapse of Christians took place 1949-1967 in 'east Jerusalem' and Judea and Samaria, while the area was RULED BY MUSLIM JORDAN!; OR that there are more Christians in Israel than in the 'Palestinian Authority' areas AND their numbers are INCREASING there, I understand). Same deal - educate about jihad and dhimmitude.

In general: whenever a story is run at the JPost that cries out to be given extra background from the educated perspective we are taught here - all of us here who support Israel should get on over, and hop in. Mention Spencer's books, and Bat Yeor, or quote some juicy stuff from the Quran, or from Joseph Schacht, or Khadduri on 'War and Peace in Islam' and the Treaty of Hudaybiyya, hudna, darura, etc.

Initially, Bajalia said he was treated with respect, but some suspicion, by the locals, and viewed as an outsider coming in with a foreign concept.
................................

Christianity is being treated as a "foriegn concept" in its very birthplace? This shows to what extent Christians have been driven out of the Holy Land over the centuries.

from above:

"The pastor said the threats began about two months ago after a group of church workers were seen praying on behalf of Palestinians.

"We will do to you what Hamas did to Fatah in Gaza," Bajalia said the Palestinian security official warned him. Bajalia, who has a vision problem, said he was also told that in addition to his eye problems he would not be able to walk anymore."

So, this is the message Fatah came away with after the hideous violence of Gaza--to be *more* ruthless with their enemies, just like their Hamas rivals. And what is the provocation for this threatened violence? A group of church workers praying for their Palestinian neighbors.

from above:

"The Palestinian security official subsequently told Bajalia to register some of his family's land in the official's name and pay him $30,000, the pastor said."

This is becoming more and more common--Christians, Jews, Hindus and others are being targeted by their frequently less-prosperous Muslim neighbors for their land, their businessess, their accumulated wealth. Often Muslims simply groundlessly accuse their victims of somehow insulting Islam--such as burning a Qu'ran or making unflattering comments about Mohammed.

This is nothing but thuggery dressed up in piety. I'm glad Mr. Bajalia and his family have been able to escape to Israel, but I'm sure they'll never get their land back. And, of course, I worry about the safety of the tiny, dwindling congregation they left behind.
