The FBI reaches out to a group whose founder "compares Jews to parasites, calls the Holocaust 'Divine punishment' and foresees the 'total extermination' of Jews at the hands of Muslims."

Much has been written about the U.S. government's current bout of schizophrenia in its outreach to the American Muslim community, specifically related to the Department of Justice. While federal prosecutors in Dallas have labeled several Islamist organizations as unindicted co-conspirators – describing them as front groups for Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood - in the terrorist financing trial against the Holy Land for Relief and Development (HLF), the FBI is meeting with the very same groups to hold outreach events and the Civil Rights Division of the DOJ is setting up booths at their conferences.As wrongheaded and shortsighted as these policies are, they do not hold a candle to a recent outreach event held by the FBI's Detroit field office at the end of last month. As reported in the Detroit Free Press (see: Detroit's FBI chief: Violence extremism cuts across religions), two top FBI officials from that office "spoke to about 50 Muslims inside the Islamic Organization of North America, or Tanzeem-e-Islami." The Free Press described the organization as merely "a Sunni mosque with a primarily Pakistani congregation" and tells us that the meeting was nothing more than "part of an effort by the FBI to reach out to Muslims and other communities."

Take this recent meeting with Tanzeem-e-Islami, a group founded in Pakistan in 1975 and headed by a man named Dr. Israr Ahmad. The FBI might be unaware, but Ahmad is often credited with initiating the vicious rumor, spread throughout the Muslim world, that Israel was responsible for the 9/11 attacks. On the heels of the attacks, he sent faxes to various U.S. mosques and Islamic centers, stating:
The secret Israeli service Musad [sic] orchestrated these terrorist attacks ... [which] are a vital link in the chain of events that the Jews are undertaking to fulfill their dream of world domination.It turns out that Dr. Ahmad is a rather prolific writer on such topics, and anti-Semitic conspiracy theories permeate his writing. Canada's National Post reported in 2006 that, according to Ahmad:
Islam's renaissance will begin in Pakistan … because the Arab world is living under subjugation. Only the Pakistan region "has the potential for standing up against the nefarious designs of the global power-brokers and to resist the rising tides of the Jewish/Zionist hegemony."And that's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Ahmad's opinions about Jews. Another of his books repeats the Jewish conspiracy theories popular among neo-Nazis, claiming that Jews have "a deeply ingrained tendency to conspire and to maneuver things surreptitiously for their own gain."The Jews exert a "wicked web of control and exploitation" through their ownership of banks, insurance companies and stock exchanges, he claims.
He compares Jews to parasites, calls the Holocaust "Divine punishment" and foresees the "total extermination" of Jews at the hands of Muslims.
Ahmad lives in Pakistan and didn't attend the meeting. But what's the best that can be said about the FBI, whose officials meet with members of a group founded by such a hate-filled man?

The FBI needs a special division of non-Muslim agents who can speak such languages as Arabic and Urdu, and who study the writings and speeches coming from the Muslim community.

Though this apparent outreach is not a clandestine approach, sometimes law enforcement recognizes that you gather much better access to information if you are not interpreted as presenting a hostile front, or intrusion.
One good thing that has been developing over the past 20 months (still to slow) is the US military War College is now teaching about Islam, but hopfully not using teachers like Joe Cleric down the street at a Waahabi Mosque.

Why is it that outsiders always have to bring these kinds of things up? Shouldn't the FBI be up on such matters? If not, then maybe it's time to replace some people or even the FBI with people more knowledgeable.

The Depts. of Justice and State have been hotbeds of anti-American and anti-Israel treachery since Clinton's days. They've gone completely rouge since 9/11, and now under a Democrat congress little can be done to reign them in.

No, not traitors. Many of them surely are ordinary people, just trying to get by, to keep from becoming controversial or open to attack, and therefore constantly worried about offending someone who might make a stink, and not eager to think too long or too hard about anything that gets in the way of the necessary-to-their-careers propitiation of the Idols of the Age.
In other words, completely unfit for the task at hand.

Emerson, a Jew who gets it
A perspective of a moderate Muslim
At the risk of sounding anti-Semitic, I want to say this: either American Jews are completely clueless about the internal struggle inside Islam or they are so cowardly, that they are even afraid to voice their opinion. Or maybe it's a combination of both.
Every time there is a development that involves radical Islam, be it a Mayor of New York attending an Islamist parade, DOJ's officials attending an Islamist conference, or a protester being sued for having the balls to expose an Islamist-sponsored event at an amusement park, the American Jewish community is as quiet as a church mouse. It's like it is not even there.
The effect of this silence is devastating. Not for the Jewish community, not yet. That time is still to come. The silence affects the American Muslim community. Every time moderate Muslims are ignored and Islamists are legitimized (by either direct support from government representatives or silent support of the ADL), radicals gain ground. In the current PC climate, moderate Muslims have pretty much no choice but to keep their mouths shut.
Luckily for us, not everyone in the Jewish community is like that. There are some Jews that are speaking out. One of them is Steven Emerson, who has been warning the West about the dangers of Islamic fundamentalism since before PanAm 103. Most of his current work is focused on exposing the radicals masquerading as the moderates – those radicals who are embraced by the DOJ and the Pentagon, by the mayor of New York Bloomberg (Rudy would never get into bed with terrorist supporters) and the Treasury Department, by the State Department and the Department of Homeland Security, by the Congress and the White House.
There is a war of ideas within Islam, and moderate Muslims are losing. Most of Muslim clergy and Muslim establishment are paid for by the Wahhabis. Moderate Muslims are being run out of Mosques and community centers, and in many cases are physically threatened. Moderate Muslims have no place in the media or public debate, because the place reserved for Muslims is filled by Islamic radicals, who attempt to make criticizing anything Islamic a taboo. According to the Islamists, a Muslim can do no wrong.
1. When a non-Muslim criticizes Islam or Muslims, he/she is an Islamophobe.
2. When a Muslim criticizes Islam or Muslim, he/she is not a real Muslim, therefore see #1.
This is a tactic used by "moderate" Muslims, the darlings of the government and the media. But how can you call someone who praises bin Laden, or has ties to Hamas, or calls for the elimination of Israel, or wants to replace the Constitution with the Koran a moderate? They are anything but moderates, however nobody except for a few people like Steven Emerson seems to notice that. But even when the Emersons of America appeal to the public, they are often being dismissed as alarmists and racists. Well, they are anything, but. You don't have to be a clairvoyant to predict the future when it comes to expansion of radical Islam and extinction of moderate Muslims. All you need to do is get your heads out of the sand.
Why our government is so forgiving and forgetful when it comes to individuals or organizations with known terrorist ties and anti-American views is beyond me. Why the Jewish leaders are so timid when it comes to the subject of radical Islam is incomprehensible.
I thank God every day for people like Steven Emerson, because they are the last glimmer of hope for moderate Muslims.

The agents do as they are told, these orders come down from on high - which is the DOJ and the Whitehouse.
This means various corrupt and incompetent political apointees are setting their agenda.

The answer, I think, has something to do with the fact that the same divide between moderate and "orthodox" exists in Judaism.
Granted the Orthodox in Judaism are not hell-bent on murder and mayhem like the Orthodox in Islam (the radicals, wahabbis, salafis, etc.)but the fact is that if a Jew eats a cheeseburger, or sausage mcmuffin from McDonalds, then according to the Orthodox, that Jew is "not a real Jew." In fact, to the Orthodox, a Jew eating a bacon cheeseburger is "worse" than a goy because the goy is not forbidden and the Jew should know better. It's not only eating "traif" but driving on the sabbath, intermarriage, not wearing a yarmulke, praying three times a day, etc.
So Jews understand that Islam (like Judaism) has the "holier-than-thou" crowd who are so assiduous and extreme in their adherence to ritural and form that they are beyond reproach.
A secondary reason is that Jews feel uneasy in their relationship with the larger gentile world. Some might actually see the Moslems as fighting their battles for them. Indeed, Islam does seem like another exotic form of Judaism, what with the communal prayer, the dietary laws, the skull caps, etc. It is for this reason that college Hillel students come to the defense of their Muslim colleagues.
Hannah Arendth (herself a Jewess) said all Jews come in one of two forms: Pariah or Parvenu.
The parvenu (Johnny-come-lately) is too busy socially climbing and competing to care about anything but himself.
The pariah (outsider) is only tenously connected to his society which gives him a great advantage. The great thinkers and reformers that Jews have given the western world like Einstein and Freud, have been pariahs.
Thirdly, there may be a sense of guilt on the part of Jews who have been accused of disloyalty to their country. I'm thinking of Napoleon who famously enacted a Sanhedrin to determine whether the Jew was a Frenchman or of the Hebrew Nationality.

waltc, the White House has no control over the Dept. of Justice or FBI. They are under congressional control like the State Dept.
Write your congressman if you want change.

Let's do one key thing here, and not tar all the FBI with one brush. I've worked with several agents from Detroit, they are exactly who this country wants serving and protecting them. FBI splits its agents very early into two tracks, one track is to remains an agent in the field, and the other is to become management and never steps out of the bureaucracy again. FBI has a separate analyst path as well, but analysts are paired with agents. The rocket scientists who consistently dream up these outreach programs are the professional management types. Don't tar the agents, who are up to their ears stopping more s**t than you can imagine, stuff that never, ever makes the news.
As has often been noted here, the sheer amount of money and energy that gets diverted into police efforts against an Islamic immigrant (and convert) presence in America is staggering, truly staggering.
