Tancredo asks Park Service to scrap planned Flight 93 Memorial

Anti-dhimmitude. From World Net Daily: “Tancredo tells Park Service to start Flight 93 memorial design process again.” (Great quotes here from Tom Burnett Sr.)

The Pittsburgh Tribune Review reports lots of whining by Memorial Project spokesmen.

From Alec Rawls, who reported the Tancredo letter three days before the newspapers noticed the story:

The Park Service promised Tom Tancredo in 2005 that the Islamic iconography would be removed, but every particle of the original Crescent of Embrace design remains completely intact in the redesign, which only added some surrounding trees. The giant crescent is oriented on Mecca. That makes it a mihrab, the central feature around which every mosque is built. You can plant as many trees around a mosque as you want and it will still be a mosque.

As far as I'm concerned every politician should be opposed to the memorial design proposed. It is an insult to those Americans who died there.

I would like to see the question posed about this to the Democratic, and Republican Candidates in their next debates.

We should not see anything at all that resembles a crescent at this memorial!

Posted by: Mackie [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 9, 2007 5:18 PM

Let them build it. Let the families of the survivors destroy it.

My idea? a crescent shaped urinal with the faces of the 9/11 murderers engraved in the porcelain basin.

Posted by: poetcomic1 [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 9, 2007 5:23 PM

I wouldn't object to symbols of every religion but islam being incorporated into the memorial.

I think Tom Tancredo deserves some $$$ for his Presidential campaign for his stance on this issue.

if the design goes through I'm guessing you'll see a bunch of Pennsylvanians out there with bull dozers and chain saws

Posted by: eve_anne_gelical [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 9, 2007 5:30 PM

This is refreshing.

Do they have to do as he says or is it simply a request that they can (continue to) ignore?

Posted by: Josephine [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 9, 2007 5:39 PM

Most politicians wouldn't see a problem with the memorial. "What crescent? I don't see a crescent, and even if there were one, what's wrong with a crescent?"

That's the position of more than a few of my friends too. Conservative friends. They think it's some sore of nutty conspiracy... BOO, seeing problems with Muslims everywhere. "And so what anyway, what's wrong with a crescent?.....I've got some Muslim friends and they are pretty cool...."

It will take a few more 9/11s to get through to most people.

Someone explain to me why we have lost our friggin' minds (as a country) in regard to honoring our enemy. It is like Bizzaro World.

Common sense, intelligence....where is it?

There should be nothing positive mentioned about islam in regards to the 9-11 memorials, they attacked us....they killed thousands of innocent people. It was not an accident, it was by design...they meant to kill our people. It was not an aberration, it is what their religion orders them to do.
Wake the hell up.

Trees are nice peaceful things. If it's islam, they should plant a few triffids.

Posted by: Celsius [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 9, 2007 6:10 PM

Won't there be any footbaths for the Muslim visitors?

Otherwise it's being exclusionary.

Because, remember, without Muslims, there would be no monument.

Tanc rocks.

Posted by: profitsbeard [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 9, 2007 6:20 PM

Of course there are footbaths. The crescent design contains every typical mosque feature (there are 12 of them). All are realized on the same epic scale as the half-mile wide mihrab.

There is a set of ponds in the design that look like male and female figures conducting ablutions. The detailed shapes of these ponds is created by grading. In its natural state, the whole area is wetland. Grading will raise the area where the crescent passes through the wetland, creating the final shapes of the ponds.

There is also a magnificent pulpit, or mimbar. There is the Tower of Voices minaret (which turns out to be a year round accurate Islamic prayer-time sundial), etcetera.

And I'll be with them, and I'm not even an American, let alone Pennsylvanian. The very idea of this memorial design is an obscenity, and there is NOTHING about it in the mainstream media.

Posted by: angloirishslav [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 9, 2007 9:05 PM

Another outrage being overshadowed by the concern about the crescent design is that the memorial (as I understand it) will include 44 glass blocks set along the flight path, inscribed with the names of all the people on that flight. If I am correct, 4 of those 44 were the hijackers themselves.

What kind of memorial to the victims of a mass murder includes the names of the murderers themselves? The mind just reels...

Those 4 glass blocks, if they are made, will be the first thing to be reduced to powder. Pensylvanians should start shopping for sledgehammers and safety googles now.

eve_anne_gelical

you may be right. recently there was some guy who ripped down the mexican flag that was raised above our stars and stripes.

lets hope patriots will do this. ;)

Posted by: leonthepigfarmer [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 9, 2007 9:33 PM

Someone who is skilled in doing it should follow the money. I would also like to know the background of the idiot who designed it.

"Crescent of Embrace" - that tells it all.

I do not understand the apparent dhimmitude displayed by some of the families.

Posted by: Pelayo [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 9, 2007 9:59 PM

Can't they find another architect to do something else? Shitcan this guy, and get it done right!

Posted by: tsarbomba29 [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 9, 2007 10:21 PM

Tancredo would make a helluva secretary of defense under Giuliani in my estimation, of course, if he did not have to speak much.

Honesty.

Posted by: awake [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 9, 2007 11:27 PM

Who is responsible for the design? What are their names, and what is their religion - need I ask? Surely the entire Park Service up to the chief honcho are not Grover Norquist appointees. There must be at least one red-neck among them that could have said "no, this is not right"! Not even one?

Grover has done his job well. How big a Saudi check does this guy draw?

Posted by: Jimmy Bones [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 10, 2007 12:53 AM

If you want an honest, conservative politician for President, Tanc's your man

If you're more swayed by media polish and lies, you'll end up with ... well media polish and lies ... just like Bill Clinton provided ... to our country's detriment ... Osama Bin Laden ... the Balkins ... the New Jersey Six Dix ... the Trolley Square killer ... etc

If you role the dice and hope for a conservative, you get George Bush ... Iraq War ... Saudi influence ... Condi Rice ... open borders ... religion of peace ... etc

If you're sick and tired of the usual BS from our politicians, get behind Tanc.

The way to get rid of this memorial is so simple, I'm surprised no one's mentioned it. All that has to be done is to organize a nationwide effort to congratulate the designers and the park service for immortalizing the hateful religion behind the attacks. It should be claimed that the crescent is only there to remind people who the bastards were that were responsible for those cowardly attacks.

If it's put in that light, I'm sure that there'd be plenty of an outcry against the monument that it'd be scrubbed.

I can only hope...

Nothing more to add. Beautifully put angloirishslav

I'll design it.
What about the Stars and Stripes fluttering gently in the wind. Simple wooden crosses radiating away, one for each poor unfortunate passenger murdered on that day, to create the shape of a cross.
The point of each statue a black stone slab, the blackness so deep that if one looks closely, one can see nothing, no future, no hope, no dreams, just lives ended for nothing, torn away into eternity.

Outside the monument, a great black hound, sculpted from obscenely expensive granite, teeth bared, eyes flaming gems, tail down, and hackles raised. Pointing towards mecca.

Tancredo for President!

Alec

You've done yeoman's work. Normally, I dismiss conspiracy theories and such complicated explanations, but with the sheer number of 'co-incidences' you've pointed out, like the one about the ponds looking like Muslim ablutions, every sense of mine screams @ me that you're right!

Posted by: Infidel Pride [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 11, 2007 1:50 AM

If they build this insult to your country and the lives lost on 9/11 I suggest you guys in America tear the thing down. It's a blatant insult to the murdered.

From Leonthepigfarmer:"tancredo gets my vote, everything he says is spot on, hes a great presidential hopeful, hopefully."

Spot on about Tancredo being spot on on this topic. We're in some kind of Bizarro world where terrorists are being honoured and eulogised alongside their victims.

Didn't something a little similar happen -or almost happen - after the London bombings?

Up is down, black is white, Laurel is Hardy.
