"Turkey is a secular nation with a majority Muslim population. By welcoming Turkey into Europe we will prove how two cultures can not only exist together, but thrive together, as partners in the modern world." -- from the remarks here by Jack Straw
Turkey is a "secular nation" with a "majority Muslim population"? Turkey is, despite more than 80 years of Kemalism, with its systematic campaign to suppress Islam's political and social power, not nearly "secular" enough. Islam is back -- not that it ever went away -- and how. Erbakan, and then Ergodan, and then Abdullah Gul, and all the rest of it. The cunning assault on the legitimacy of the army, the final upholder of Kemalism. The assault from within the universities on secular rectors and professors, and the determination to renew state support for Muslim schools and openness to government hiring of graduates of strictly Muslim schools and colleges. No, Turkey is not what it may once have been -- say, in 1940, or even 1950. Islam keeps coming back.
And Turkey does not have a "majority Muslim population." Its population is 99% Muslim. Does Jack Straw recall just how, over the last century, such a feat was accomplished? Does he know that Constantinople in 1914 was 50% non-Muslim, and that Turkey as a whole was about one-quarter non-Muslim? What happened to all those non-Muslims, Armenians, Greeks, Jews, Levantines of every description? Did he forget, or did he never know?
And now he wants to admit this nation of 70 million Muslims, a nation becoming more dangerously Muslim every day -- proving that those who count on Ataturks can't count on very much, for the power of a potentially resurgent Islam never disappears, but always comes back -- into the European Union, because this will "prove" that Islam and the West can get along. How does he know? Has he carefully studied, since he's had time on his hands, the texts of Islam? Has he carefully studied the 1350-year history of Islam's encounters with, conquest or attempted conquest of, non-Muslim lands and peoples, so that Islam can everywhere dominate, and Muslims rule everywhere? Why does he think it would be different if those 70 million Muslim Turks, reproducing far faster than any of Europe's non-Muslims, added to the tens of millions of Muslims -- Algerians, Moroccans, Egyptians, Tunisians, Somalis, Kurds, Iraqis, Syrians, Lebanese Muslims, and of course "Palestinians" -- already in Europe, were allowed to travel freely throughout Schengenland, that is, all of visa-free Europe? What does he think would be the effect of making it easier for other Middle Eastern people, Arabs and Kurds not Turks, to enter the E.U. as Turks? For who, among those checking the borders, will be able to easily separate out the strange Turks from the just-as-strange Arabs, carrying false Turkish passports? A security nightmare, and a civilizational bet that only someone nearly insane would wish to make.
Jack Straw is nearly insane, for he ignores the texts, and the tenets, and the attitudes, and the 1350 years of history, all of which point in a direction opposite to the one in which he is so determinedly faced. Jack Straw -- who has never abandoned his National Union of Students worldview -- knows nothing of Islam, and is, in general, an ignoramus about the relevant history. Some may ascribe his views to the well-known phenomenon of certain people compensating for their antecedents (as the joke goes, Jewish "only on his parents' side"). But in Straw’s case it is sheer ignorance, and the negligence which allows the high-and-mighty, once they are high and very mighty, to forego the study of those matters which, in fact, they ought long ago to have thoroughly familiarized themselves with -- in Straw's case, the tenets of Islam has contained in Qur'an, hadith, sira, and enshrined in the shari'a, and the history of the Middle East. He is not alone; anyone familiar with the pronouncements of assorted "Middle Eastern experts" ranging from the egregious David Satterfield, that promoter of the "Arabness" of Lebanon at Taif, and of Djerijian, or of tireless negotiators such as Dennis Ross, knows that these people know nothing significant about Islam, or its well-established rules concerning Infidels and treaties with Infidels. Jack Straw, in his foolishness, is simply a representative of the Western elites that have turned their heads away from the Jihad, focused manically on the "two tiny peoples" business in Israel, and permitted the demographic invasion, and possible conquest from within, of Western Europe (not to mention the massacres of Christians all over the Muslim East, and outside as well, in Sudan, and Pakistan, and as far as Indonesia, where 2,300 churches were destroyed in one year alone).
Esdrujula Explanation. Timidity. Rigidity. Cupidity. And what's that other one? I keep forgetting, but it's the most important one of all.
Yes. Right.

For Straw the #4 esdrujula word is clearly not "Lucidity." The #4 esdrujula word is one whose first syllable is the same as the first syllable of a word for a Buddhist temple.

Jack Straw is a plant. Occasionally he will come out with something to try and convince us he is not complicit in the islamisation of the UK, like the "veil incident". Bur he consistently supports muslims over non-muslims and is trying everything in his power to bring Turkey into the EU in order to import enough muslims to change the political face of my country. This is what I feel, but I would like to be wrong.
If Turkeys' muslim population is allowed free movement this country will be swamped. I don't believe Jack Straw is unaware of this. In fact I think that is his intention. Whether he is secretly a muslim, or whether he is just so twisted and hatefull of Britain that he would rather see us lose our freedom, I don't know. The most terrifying option is that he is pandering to the worlds muslims to instigate the UK as the Islamic banking hub. We have seen in the last ten years a government that is more reminiscent of Stalins' than that of a democracy. What the people want is ignored for the sake of 1960's student thinking.
Jack Straw is possibly the biggest threat to the safe future of this country.

Jaq al Straw makes statements like this from time to time merely in order to protect his electoral majority, which is dependant on the support from the sizeable moslem population of the northern mill town which he represents in parliament.
We in the UK have become used to MPs, especially those from the left wing of nu-labour, spouting this sort of egregious bollocks for the sake of political expediency.
Fortunately, more and more of us are taking notice.

Yes, we saw this Idiot's latest gaffe-don't believe he's an agent provocateur-Straw's just another politician seeking to appease large numbers of Muslims in his constituency.
Was amused to read comments about his speech-as one suggested 'Why didn't Straw go and live in Turkey?' An excellent idea, methinks. Jolly Jack
could demonstrate his own policy to an admiring
world. He would also feel the love, experience firsthand what it is like to be surrounded by not just thousands but 70 million pious, militant Turks...What a pity that he,like his master Tony Blair, is such a cowardly little weasel.

"Jack Straw is a plant."
-- from a posting above
It would be comforting to think so. For an enemy agent can be discovered, exposed, dispatched. But what if Straw's problem is the most powerful force in the world -- Stupidity -- and what if that same Stupidity explains all kinds of other people in the ruling classes all over the Western world, among the very people who are supposed to know better than we do, know exactly what is going on, know how to instruct and how to protect us -- but they are just too rigid, timid, greedy, and above all stupid, to do so? That's the nightmare.
I don't think Straw is a plant, any more than I think that Romano Prodi is a KGB agent. I think he's a well-spoken fool, unable to make the mental leaps necessary for someone with his worldview, his background, his entire life history. He just can't do it. It would upset his applecart, all of his applecarts.

70,000 turks? It must be some kind of figure our "overlords" decided - a fixed number going to Western countries. Hasn't the State Dept. here already allowed 70,000 turks to enter the U.S. on a Workers Visa? And I think they brought their dependents along.
---------------------------
"because this will "prove" that Islam and the West can get along. How does he know?"
Jeez, this bring to mind the story of the swan and the scorpion. Knowing scorpions, I need not go into all the story - you all can imagine.
This brings to mind another anecdote about scorpions. There was a well-known whistleblower of the spiritual persuasion, name of Ghostwolf. He's gone now. But he told about exploring ancient pueblos in the Southwest - hidden places long deserted - his friends taking him there- warning him about watching his step - to be careful of alkali areas because they were just a thin covering for deep pits of scorpions. Ghostwolf tells that he, indeed, stepped through one of these alkali coverings, wherein in he saw giant scorpions all lining the walls. He tells of jumping up 6 ft - vertical - somehow - saved his life. He says, his friends laughed and laughed, because they had never seen anyone jump so high and so fast.
Well, Jack Straw obviously is NOT watching out for scorpions of the islamic variety. Maybe he doesn't care, maybe he's one of giant variety.
Wonder if he has womenfolk in his family. How they feel about caliphates.

By welcoming Turkey into Europe we will prove how two cultures can not only exist together, but thrive together, as partners in the modern world
There always were, and will be, maniacs obsessed with weird ideas and loony project to solve real and imaginary problems. They are, for the most, harmless as long as they try to prove the truth of idea through experiments in the privacy of their garage. If the idea blows up in their faces the damage is limited and usually taken care by an insurance company. A few shocked neighbours, an ambulance and sometimes a fire brigade - that’s all.
But someone who, despite countless most obvious evidences showing that his idea is stupid and its results not only horrible but irreversible, wants to skip the experimental stage and directly impose it on populations of 25 countries - or some 250 million people is a dangerous maniac. In a more normal world he would be removed from political influence and possibly confined to an asylum.
A man who views a continent as his lab, civilization as disposable object, history as nuisance and millions of human beings as guinea pigs belongs in the same category as Lenin and Mao and Hitler.
While Mao unleashed a monstrous cultural revolution Jack Straw wants no less than civilizational revolution.
So much ruthlessness, hubris and dishonesty in one little stupid man.

"By welcoming Turkey into Europe we will prove how two cultures can not only exist together, but thrive together, as partners in the modern world. Accession means a more pluralist, tolerant and inclusive Turkey – and a more pluralist, tolerant and inclusive Europe." - Jack Straw
which reminds me of this:
"The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and over and over again, but expecting a different result." - Albert Einstein
The difference in this case is that Jack Straw thinks he can get different results by doing the whole thing on a bigger scale, using the same ingredients but in bigger doses.
The importation of large numbers of Muslims into France has created discontent and division.
The importation of large numbers of Muslims into Britain has created discontent and division.
The importation of large numbers of Muslims into Germany has created - and so on and so on. Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Italy, Spain, the results of the experiment are always the same. The results say that Islam and any other culture cannot exist together because Islam is not content to exist together any other culture, that Islam is not “pluralist, tolerant and inclusive” .
But Jack thinks he has the answer – the doses have been too low and too local, just a few hundred thousand Muslims here, a few hundred thousand there, a far too gradual and localized approach. What Europe really needs is to ingest 70 million more in one go.
Only this will enable Europe to prove that black is white, and that Jack is holding up however many fingers he says is his holding up.

Jack Straw, he is what I call the "I HOPE" brigade, the same sort of person as the Swedish politician who said:
"We are nice to Muslims in the hope that when they become the majority they will be nice to us!"
Any politician who works on I HOPE has already failed in their job, hope is not what they are supposed to do, they are supposed to govern, not hope.
Mr Straw should be trying to intergrate the Muslim population in Britain, but that is actually hard work, something that a government should be doing, which take clear sighted policies and not hope to make it work, I think this says it all about the complete idiots running the UK, or whats left of it.
Jack Straw is simply a traitor to the British people.
