The BBC needs to be cleaned out, top to bottom, and this requires a Parliamentary investigation. It needs to have John Simpson (see here for more) discharged as head of the World Service. It needs to be asked why it is refusing to reveal the contents of an investigation into bias in its coverage of the "Middle East conflict" (which means the Lesser Jihad against Israel).
In a few -- just a few -- cases, the outcry was too strong, and the outrageousness of the coverage too egregious, to be ignored, so a few transfers were made. For example, there was Orla Guerin, married to a "Palestinian" and a determined propagandist herself for The Cause. The steady drip-drip-drip in her outrageous coverage did so much to poison the minds of so many listeners, steadily over so many years, about Israel. She's now been sent to South Africa, where she will continue to do what she can -- for example, she'll never cover the growing Muslim threat in Capetown, because for her, with her view, there is no Muslim threat.
There is Barbara Plett, who on air wept after Arafat -- that great man -- died, and who, only because of that on-air sobbing, revealing her bias, had to be transferred. In other words, her years of viciously one-sided reporting from Israel (along with Orla Guerin) could have continued forever, had she not wept for Arafat those real, not crocodile, tears. She's now in Afghanistan -- or is it Pakistan?
And then there is Lys Doucet, of the unusually hard and nasty voice, who was a cross between Guerin and Plett. Quite a trio. She's been transferred, for her outrages, to Pakistan -- or is it Afghanistan?
But what about all the Arabs and Muslims on staff, who influence the kind of young, leftist, Englishman, already trained to accept an anti-Israel narrative, already raised up to "know" that is this place called "Palestine" and people who apparently -- so they think -- always called "Palestinians" which must mean it's their country, and those terrible Jews -- yes, we regret the Holocaust but for god's sake that was a long time ago, wasn't it, and (now repeating a staple of Arab Muslim propaganda) "why should the Arabs have to pay for the crimes of Europeans"? Never a hint of wondering over the position of Jews under Islam, never a recognition that more than half of the Jews in Israel never left the Middle East. No hint of recognition that Islam must be understood if Arab opposition, and permanent Muslim refusal to countenance an Infidel nation-state is to be understood. That refusal that can be ignored if, and only if, Israel remains militarily overwhelmingly stronger, and if, and only if, it has the ability to deal with the demographic conquest that threatens not only Israel, but ultimately, Great Britain and the other countries in Western Europe.
The BBC has been attacked for its totalitarian anti-Western bias by Vladimir Bukovsky. If you don't know that name, look him up -- he should be known. Its coverage has been dissected by Trevor Asserson and others now monitoring the BBC. But as yet there has been no outcry in either House of Parliament. And we need an outcry, well-informed and devastating, like the outcry in the House of Lords, forty years ago, when Lord Shackleton and Lord Maugham (in his maiden speech) ripped into slavery in Arabia, especially that malign place, Saudi Arabia. Their efforts, that outcry, forced the Saudis and other Arabs, by 1962, at least formally, to end the practice of slavery, at a time when there were nearly half-a-million slaves in that country, our "staunch" ally then and now.
The BBC is the source from which many obtain their news and therefore their worldview. Like the U.N., it has been infiltrated and captured by Muslims ably abetted by non-Muslims who are -- not all, but many -- subject to those two mental pathologies that has done such damage in Western Europe, anti-Americanism and antisemitism. There have been recently cases of people quitting the BBC, people who did not share either the anti-Americanism or the antisemitism, and who are disgusted by what may be called the "culture" (as that word is now used) of the BBC. They too should testify. The few decent papers should make a stink, raise holy hell. And in this country, people should raise holy hell about the BBC being transmitted by NPR -- and supported, therefore, by American taxpayers, either as donors, or as those who subsidize NPR because it has charitable status.

Where I live (far upstate NY) the BBC plays from 11 PM to 5 AM.
Before Blair was elected, it was the most pleasurable media experience available. It was intended for adults with curiosity about everything in the world, and a desire to learn something new. Its production values (is that the right phrase?) was astonishing: so well done, every day.
Music, science, literature, history - - everything was a topic sooner or later. As for me, I would rather be delighted by a segment on Birds of The Midlands rather than yet another dreary, political screeching.
But Blair, to his everlasting shame, eviscerated this cultural gem, and replaced it with the ranting, burbling, agenda-filled and dreadfully BORING propaganda machine of today.
Is there no American or Englishman who could syndicate an equivalent of the old BBC? I would gladly pay to have it back.

There are many other traitors at BBC. Some of the worst voices are Alan Johnston (too bad they didnt cut off his head) Owen-Bennett-Jones, and Judy Swallow (I wish they would cut out her tongue)
Yes, I too used to enjoy the cultural shows on BBC from around the world.I try never to listen to them now. They make lefty NPR almost look just a little less socialist.
And they hate England as much as they hate the USA. Their favorite is Cuba.

We've had petition after petition, both to the BBC and the government, to get them to reveal the findings of their investigation into their own bias.
It's the public who have to pay the TV licence fee, and the BBC, after all these years, feel they're not accountable to anyone, even though it's us who pay their wages, and it's us who have to pay for terrorists to go paintballing!
We all have to write to the Parliamentary committee which reviews the BBC Charter. And we have to demand that the licence fee be DROPPED ASAP!
They already advertise their own products, let them have adverts like all the independent channels, and then see what the VIEWERS prefer to watch.
If they have no viewers they'll have no advertisers, which means they'll sink.

Irrational people, being unable to produce things of value on their own, cannot achieve prestige except by fraud.
They are parasitic on the prestige of rational people and institutions, and generally, cannot invade a suitable host until some negligent or credulous person leaves the back door open, so to speak, and allows them a chance to sneak in.
The situation at the BBC is a textbook example.
The original BBC (as described by Moonzoo above) achieved prestige by excercizing its rationality for years, through arduous and intelligent work.
The nuts, haters and traitors then come along, and initially at least, their rantings eluded wide condemnation because they were coming, after all, from the BBC.
The unfortunate thing is that by the time observers realize what has happened, that their nestlings have been displace by a huge ravenous cuckoo which they themselves have been feeding, enormous damage has been done and the game is nearly up.
It's an open question whether the BBC can survive this infection, or whether its prestige, and even its competence have been irreparably damaged.

And now we are faced with the jihaddis, telling us that they are "freedom fighters" (fighting for the freedom to impose a theocratic dictatorship), that they want their "rights" (like the right to beat their wives), that they just want to practice their religion (that calls for cutting off your head) ... ad nauseam.
So they'll sit on the "Human Rights Commission" at the UN, and hold "peace" conferences, and all the rest of the stinking stuff.

The BBC poses a threat to the UK's freedom and safety, and effectively collaborates with Britain's Muslim enemies, both internal and external, and by providing them a with platform to spread their taqiya and da'wa.

I heard a BBC broadcast on NPR last Sunday. The BBC was predicting a win for Hugo Chavez's referendum in Venezuela. They said that Chavez was a very popular leader. They failed to mention that Chavez had shut down all opposition TV stations. So much for free speech. ;)

I hope someone in the management of Canada's CBC reads this and takes it to heart.
The CBC runs a close second to the BBC in kissing Arab asses.
At times one must wonder how much Arab money is behind those hateful voices.

I totally agree. The Biased Broadcasting Corporation is just that, and unfortunately heavily biased towards Islam. The "have your say" section of their website nearly always removes posts which are considered overly anti Islamic. If however you look at the readers recommended articles, you will see the ones with most votes are far from pro Islam, and indeed speak out strongly against it. The same is true on any debate involving immigration, most oppose it strongly.
This must really piss the little commie dhimmis right off, they cant remove them all without being openly seen to be biased!
It makes me sick that my licence money is paying these people to be traitors to their own country and culture. They produce stories to try and convince us we should be ashamed of everything British and if we are not, then we must be ignorant racists. Nulabour will never do anything about them as they are the mouthpiece of the trendy lefty, liberal, PC garbage they so love to ram down our throats. I am surprised they still show songs of praise on Sunday night (not that I watch it) but even more surprised they do not impose televised prayers 5 times a day on Friday to appease their lords and masters.
I do hope one day all the idiots are purged, and that true factual reporting replaces it. The Muslims wont like that! people will get to hear the truth about their sordid little countries and barbaric sharia law.

As we all should know,but is still a great pleasure of mine,is to point out to a liberal "today programme" devotee of the "gladys" gibbons persuasion,that Orwells 1984 was inspired by his time working for the BBC.
I've always refused to pay for a state run media as it goes against my principles.
I run the risk of prosecution.I don't care.Why should I?
Defender of The Realm and other U.K. citizens please just stop paying it..!...take the risk.
The middle classes hold on to the BBC in a sense of superiority and exclusion.BBC 4 being their scouthut.
Yes I will agree that some of their output is very good quality,particularly the wildlife departments.but even still,I know most of them are made by independent production companies,who are then financially commisioned by the BBC movers and shakers.The people and talent behind these programs will still make great programs regardless because the individuals involved are commited to good wildlife filming and not really a BBC agenda.
Sadly the News and current affairs depts,are as Hugh and many others in the critical base of the institution have been saying for years..
They are riddled with bias.
It was one of the main pivotal points in my "enlightenment" towards critical analysis of the media.
For this I thank the BBC...their smug,self rightous indignation made me look the other way and question their output.
As for others I cannot say...But one thing I can tell everyone is that if you need an indication of the U.K. sense of itself and a general patriotism you should see any of the boxing coverage of merryweather V hatton.
I know boxing may not appeal to everyone.But please dont right us off yet..were a hard bunch who love a good drink and a punch up.
This and NOT the dire output of John Simpson and his cronies gets your average Brit going..

Just watch any of the footage of the weigh in of the Merryweather V Hatton fight.
Listen to the crowd,or see the crowd..these people travelled all the way from the U.K. and from all over the U.K. to support Ricky Hatton..a working class boy from Manchester.
Thousands of Brits in vegas,chanting our usual stuff..all aggression but good natured...reminds one of the humourous songs of WW2..we love it but we laugh with it.
In the crowd you may not of noticed quite a few turbaned guys...the sikhs love their boxing and they love the U.K.
As again too in WW2...the sikhs are with us.
What has this to do with the BBC you may ask...
A lot really...the BBC is anachronism..a dinosaur..it will die out and I hope cultural historians will pick it's bones dry..
Please don't believe we all sit around glass eyed watching it's 5 or so paltry channels...we do have cable and satellite here too you know.

I saw a BBC news item today about British officials dealing with tribal leaders in Afghanistan. It made many comparisons to the erstwhile British Empire. Whether what they were saying was true or not, I couldn't help but wonder whether the report was helpful. It's just more amunition for the Jihadists who call NATO's work in Afghanistan "imperialist". As if British troops didn't have enough to put up with.

As for the 'Have Your Say' section, well, it's a farce. You can 'have your say' only if what you say agrees with the official BBC line. Trying to place a comment up there which is in any way anti-Islamic or anti-Muslim is well nigh impossible. Mind you, I am sorry to have to admit it, but many of the newspapers aren't much better, either. Try getting a critical comment on Islam up on 'The Times', for example. Another virtual impossibility in my experience.
By the way, Hugh, this is a great piece which needed to be stated. And clearly. And that's exactly what you have done.
I wish that far, far fewer Brits got their news from the BBC. So many of them have been brainwashed into thinking that anything that the BBC states "must be right". It really is quite pathetic.
If I had my way, I would scrap the BBC in its present form, sack the damn lot of them, and start over again - as a private organisation. Why should peope have to pay a licence fee to be brainwashed?

I wish the brave statement above was true but Britain's and Europe's destiny is demographic, if nothing else. Among a myriad of ominous benchmarks, Mohammed rises to the top of the list in the UK of most popular names for male children, and British heads remain in the sand. It is the same everywhere else in europe.
Europe's alien tormentors enjoy special legal and cultural protection from the very same host cultures they wish to destroy and replace. The political and cultural elites of the west seem determined to embrace and promote their own cultural suicide.
Violence and physical intimidation of europe's shrinking indigenous peoples may become a more popular tactic for jihad as europe's cultural and demographic center of gravity continues its relentless shift toward islam, but the sad fact is that if muslims in europe are patient enough, they will recognize that open, violent jihad will not be necessary for islam to prevail in europe.
Unfortunately for europe, I am not confident that europe's muslims will be so patient. All the more tragic.
